We had an issue with our balcony door lock. We went to Mathias to discuss. The person that worked with us was incredible. I had a picture of our lock and he showed us how to fix it. If what he showed us didn't work, then we would call them for a service call. However, what he showed us worked and we could not be more thankful to them for great customer service. The two techs from Mathias who helped our condo complex today were smart, capable and friendly. My only regret is not having their names for this review. Steppington Place Condos ordered a new security system, which was mislaunched with predictable results. I got stuck in the basement for over an hour, trying to get to my home. They helped me download the right app, which had never been available to me, tested my access at several points, and identified a main door problem, none of which were known to the "provider." I used to live near them and always found them helpful with lockouts and key changes. I used to be a field engineer in a previous century, so I know extactly what challenges these guys live with day to day and the personal sacrifices they make to fulfill their company's agreements with their customers, whether or not the contractors above them have a clue. BEWARE! Mathias Lock & Key will RIP YOU OFF and TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU with their exorbitant rates! I called at 4:13 pm on a Wednesday afternoon and was told I had to pay their "after hours" fee of $380 (double their regular rate). I know lock smiths are pricey, but I was surprised they considered 4:13 in the afternoon "after hours". I had no choice, but to use this locksmith as it was required by my Denver high-rise complex. It took their technician 2 hours to arrive. Upon his arrival, he spent less than one minute wiggling his tool in the lock to re-adjust the slipped pins and then squirted graphite in the lock to lubricate it. He worked on the lock for maybe a total of 1-2 minutes and THE BILL WAS $760!!! I thought there must be a mistake, but was told that "after hours" meant I had to pay for his 2 hours of travel time as well - at the $380 per hour rate! I spoke to the Mathias manager the next day and they would not budge on the final bill! read more

They used to have a location in south DTC which was handy, so I had to drive downown to get a dupe of a unique key made. I showed the gent the key and asked if they could make a copy. He had to get a more experienced guy to look at it with him and to find the blank. Without turning around, he started right in on the duplication, never quoting me a price on it. When he was done and gave me the new key, he had broken the rubber head off my original key, as he had not removed it from my key ring. Instead of taking the blame, he just handed it back and said the case was falling apart. Then he told me the new key was $14. I would not have had it made at that price; I have another spare. Not good at business practices here, but you will not find a better locksmith in town. read more

The technician came to my house and regretfully over stayed his welcome by the time he started telling 9/11 jokes thinking he was some kind of comedian or something. My wife was so taken back by his crude humor that she stormed out of the house and without looking tripped over the dog and broke her hand. I asked for the final bill and saw I was being charged for every spring and tumbler that was used as well as a rekey fee. The only thing he didn't charge us for was his offensive humor unless the final bill as a whole was suppose to be funny. Quit your day job too and get lost. read more

I had the best service here! I went to a couple different locksmiths for a mail key copy around cap hill, so this was worth driving a few minutes outside of there. They can make pretty much EVERY key you could want. There's a private parking lot, easy access from Speer, and the customer service here was great. My customer service rep told me a terrible joke and had me laughing yet I was out the door in under 5 minutes. What a great and convenient little business. read more

Go somewhere else... I had an incident with my basic kwickset deadbolt and was looking for a beefy, "unpickable" lock. I called around looking for a specific brand and style. This locksmith told me on the phone they in fact did have that lock and I informed them I would be in before they were closed. I drove 45 minutes from Boulder only to have the rude man behind the counter tell me they did not, in fact, have that. He was unapologetic and did not suggest anything similar. I've been into the store twice to get a key made and apparently they can't make common lock keys also bought a brand new commercial door handle and lock that only lasted a little over a year and was very hard to even get them to service it. Yesterday I bought a combination lockbox, the one you hold keys in. After slicing open the plastic packaging I realized it doesn't fit my car key, which was the main reason I bought it. I went back to try to exchange it today. I was a little concerned they wouldn't be able to take it back because there's no way for them to re-seal the package. They not only accepted it back with no fuss, they gave me a bigger lockbox that was $15 more expensive and didn't charge me anything for the difference. Needless to say whenever someone asks for anything pertaining to locks and keys, this is the first place that's going to spring to mind. I have an antique armoire (Deco era?) that has a lock and key. It worked fine for the 30+ years I've had it, until a few months ago, when the key would know longer open and close the lock mechanism. We called probably 15 shops to see if anyone could cut us keys to a truck bed topper (canopy) we bought from some guy on Craigslist. We were never given the keys to it so we needed some recut. We are also traveling across the country so it's not like we can drive all over. They had us come in, and the gentlemen (I asked his name and forgot because I'm an ass) ran out and said he could possibly have a match. He came back in and within 6 minutes we have two keys for our topper and it was 12 bucks. Awesome, friendly service with a very fast response time. I am a property manager of a building in Parker, CO. We had a horrible time with a couple other locksmiths/ door installers who basically dropped the ball at every turn because we were not considered a "big job". After being referred to Mathias from a peer of the industry, I reached out and expressed how much trouble we had with other companies in the past. I also shared how little I was willing to put up with for a hefty cost to our business. Heather listened to my concerns and seemed determined to change our minds about locksmiths :) She was open and up front about the turn-around time and ETA of installations. Dave and an apprentice (He was Russian I believe but don't have his name) first came out and installed the majority of our originally ordered locks. My boss, who changes his mind frequently, added to the order and made some changes and Dave and Heather were beyond accommodating. Dave came by three times and worked tirelessly to finish our order. Cameron was great and came by to measure a door we added to the order last minute. We are currently awaiting the door installation, but I am confident it will only make my review better!! Every single person I talked to has been so great and patient with us as we finalized our lock/ door orders. I had Mathias Lock and Key open my house 2 days ago. I was informed the service would be a $60 charge. This made sense to me as it takes their time and gas to come to my home. Today I received a charge on my card for $175. When I called, the phone rep explained that he informed me that he told me that I would have additional fees. IF it was stated, it ABSOLUTELY was not made clear. I would have NEVER accepted the responsibility of a service I did not know the end amount. I do want to note that the tech that came to my home was punctual and very kind. At the end of the day, after calling them and allowing them to "make things right", I feel VERY taken advantage of. Service is great but upfront honesty is equally important. Very disappointed. read more

Called to get a quote on getting two doors re-keyed. I was greeted by a very rude woman who acted like it was a huge inconvenience to be rattling off prices to me. I asked for an estimate on how long the appointment would be and she responded that she had absolutely no idea how long it took the techs.
