The security hub that was installed into the wall would beep all the time and we couldn't turn it off. We called Vivint to shut it off and they said they cannot do that without a subscription and a signed contract. The sales representative over the phone did NOT disclose that there was an early termination fee with the subscription. Eventually I discovered the truth myself: the issue doesn't get fixed -- you just have to fight the app until it gives in. The workaround? Repeatedly hitting the "go back" button, force-closing the app, reopening it, and trying again... and again... and again until it finally loads. When you are trying to retrieve footage, it usually means something stressful or unsafe has already occurred. The last thing anyone needs in that moment is a broken system and a technical endurance test. Now let's talk about something even more alarming. My previous -- much more affordable -- cameras continued recording for 24 hours after losing power. Vivint cameras? The moment power is cut, recording stops completely. No warning. No clear disclosure. Just a massive security blind spot I had to discover on my own. Think about that for a moment: a security company selling cameras that become useless during a power outage -- one of the exact scenarios where security matters most. That isn't just inconvenient. It is a legitimate safety concern. And then there is the app -- which feels like it was released before anyone bothered to test it. Example: Try changing your door chime tone. The app happily lets you select a new sound and press save. It even pretends the change worked. It didn't. My doorbell has been stuck playing Halloween sounds since October. It is now nearly Valentine's Day. No matter what I do, it refuses to change. At this point, it would be funny if I weren't paying a premium price for a system that behaves like a beta test. To put it bluntly: The system is unreliable. The app is broken. Customer support is ineffective. And the product is wildly overpriced for the level of performance you receive. Absolutely horrible service, constant problems with the equipment, cameras not working or recording, door bell often glitching and only rings outside. Customer service claims that my camera was out to date and a new one needed be purchased for $250 ! so I did ! And still problems with the camera :/ the main modem freezing & glitching! I'm hate being with vivent! And not to mention, sometimes the system will set itself off saying someone is breaking in the window. Police will come & say no signs of breakin. WORST purchase EVER!!! Their technology does NOT work with any other security system sensors, so you have to purchase everything new. I chose to NOT install new window and door sensors, so the only thing the system control does is allow you to arm, disarm, add new entry combinations, and watch people who come into view on the cameras. So.... Every time I get a SCREAMING alarm, I'm FURIOUS!!! The alarm is for broken glass. ‍. Considering my system doesn't monitor ANY glass, how the hell does this happen?! I typically get one to two alarms per month! . I have called Vivint out 3 times to fix the issue. Every time I called for service, I was advised there is a charge. For what?! Getting service on a defective system?! A system that I have asked be removed and I be refunded for?! Despite calling customer service four separate times to cancel my service--each time receiving confirmation that my account was canceled--the company continued to charge me. VIVINT ! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! The error on my panel reads: "Your panel's cell connection is not working. Let's get it fixed." They said it was necessary to send a tech out to repair. I declined as it was a $100 charge. They said they would make it free. The tech said I needed to get a signal booster from Verizon. Verizon won't sell me one. Then the bill for the tech came through for $109. I called customer service and they said it was resolved and that it would take 3 days to correct on their website. Next day I felt strong armed into a $6000 contract with flaws. I asked 4 different people at Viviant to remove some equipment and send me new GFE contract. All 4 had different figures from $3000-$4200. I never had equipment installed and it's here in boxes. We got the full system. Within the year, the different parts of the system stopped talking to each other. I changed the batteries, followed the online guide but couldn't get it to work. Twice I called for a tech to come fix everything. They would not send a tech and only offered to help me fix it over the phone which of course never worked. They they raised their price, lol. They make it very difficult to cancel, told me it wasn't working because my equipment was outdated, even though I'd just completed paying it off! I have used Vivint to monitor my home for many years now. I now have tenants moving in and they do not want to pay for monitoring service, so I called to cancel and figure out how to use the equipment that I purchased from Vivint and was informed I cannot use my own equipment unless they are monitoring the system. This is crazy, I paid for the equipment and now it is useless. Additionally, Vivint is supposed to give you peace of mind when you're away from your home. This was not always the case and their equipment for my garage door said our garage door was open at 5 am when we were out of town, causing alarm and stress that someone had broken in. Their solution was to charge us for more expensive garage equipment, which I did bc I had already invested so much money in the other equipment I purchased. They raise monthly rates without notice. We also found it is really hard to cancel and get any kind of customer service for a real solution or consideration. They won't buy back the equipment either and research shows they have a history of being known as an abusive consumer business. I was completely hoodwinked by Joey. Everytime he opened his mouth he was pretty much lying. Lied to me about a soft pull on my credit which was in fact a hard pull. Told me the equipment was free but turned out I got a $4000 loan for the equipment. They changed the contract without my knowledge and still continued to install the equipment in my home without my consent! I never me a company like this before! A completely other level. I wouldn't believe any of the positive reviews. I'm sure they pay for them. A door to door salesman offered a 'massive budget' for systems to be installed in homes 'free of charge'. 'No cost to you' This statement was a lie. There was no budget. It was all to be financed via a third party lending service by the homeowners. Unfair and misleading sales tactics are being used. And this has to be stopped. This review is not about the product itself but the sales practices of a particular Vivint Smart Home agent in the Stapleton (or should I say Central Park) area. If a sales rep from Vivint Security comes to your home and offers you a security system in exchange for being an "advertising home," do not believe it. He packages it as in lieu of Vivint paying "millions" in local advertising, your home will be an advertising home for the company. In short, you will display Vivint's sign outside your home for 5 years, post online referrals of the company, and refer friends and family who inquired about your security system. It is basically represented as Vivint takes the financial obligation of the equipment so you will appear like an early adopter of their product and advertise for them. The reality is you are being setup to take out a loan to finance the entire system yourself through a bank called Citizens One. He will ask you for some personal details to see if the home qualifies to be an "advertising home" with Vivint but it is actually a loan application to finance the equipment. Sounds illegal particularly since in our case, he never offered us the opportunity to fill in this information ourselves nor did he disclose that what he was filling out on your behalf was in fact a loan application. This rep came to our home and made his pitch. We signed the contract believing our financial obligation was minimal. He packaged it as we'd pay about $100 per month which is, and I quote, "the cost to keep it connected every month." My husband and I did not know the cost for security monitoring with other companies so sure, $100 for a product and service that received high accolades sounds reasonable. After we signed, he said we would not receive a copy of the contract until the install happened later that evening. We finally received the contract, which states over $60 of the monthly fee went towards equipment. We called corporate at Vivint immediately the next day and two reps plus a supervisor told us they did not know what an "advertising home" is. In short, an advertising home is not a sanction corporate program through Vivint which again, is the impression created by the sales rep. We confronted the rep who admitted, "all sales reps have their own pitch." This guy rides around on a Hoverboard in the Central Park area.
