This review is not about the product itself but the sales practices of a particular Vivint Smart Home agent in the Stapleton (or should I say Central Park) area. If a sales rep from Vivint Security comes to your home and offers you a security system in exchange for being an "advertising home," do not believe it. He packages it as in lieu of Vivint paying "millions" in local advertising, your home will be an advertising home for the company. In short, you will display Vivint's sign outside your home for 5 years, post online referrals of the company, and refer friends and family who inquired about your security system. It is basically represented as Vivint takes the financial obligation of the equipment so you will appear like an early adopter of their product and advertise for them. The reality is you are being setup to take out a loan to finance the entire system yourself through a bank called Citizens One. He will ask you for some personal details to see if the home qualifies to be an "advertising home" with Vivint but it is actually a loan application to finance the equipment. Sounds illegal particularly since in our case, he never offered us the opportunity to fill in this information ourselves nor did he disclose that what he was filling out on your behalf was in fact a loan application. This rep came to our home and made his pitch. We signed the contract believing our financial obligation was minimal. He packaged it as we'd pay about $100 per month which is, and I quote, "the cost to keep it connected every month." My husband and I did not know the cost for security monitoring with other companies so sure, $100 for a product and service that received high accolades sounds reasonable. After we signed, he said we would not receive a copy of the contract until the install happened later that evening. We finally received the contract, which states over $60 of the monthly fee went towards equipment. We called corporate at Vivint immediately the next day and two reps plus a supervisor told us they did not know what an "advertising home" is. In short, an advertising home is not a sanction corporate program through Vivint which again, is the impression created by the sales rep. We confronted the rep who admitted, "all sales reps have their own pitch." This guy rides around on a Hoverboard in the Central Park area. I have been a customer for 7 years and communicating with customer service has been my worst nightmare. They are untrained and poor understanding of the English language. But what got me to the point of considering dumping them was a referral that resulted in a large sale to them and having Vivint tell me because there was not a code generated by myself and the salesman who sold them the system, I am not able to get any referral fee.( $200 credit on service). Furthermore, there is nothing stated on their website for referral protocols. I had the reference number of the sale, name and address of the customer who purchased on my recommendation. After he left, I couldn't lock my doors since he installed the sensors in the doors.They will drill holes in your walls for the wiring. Thankfully the corporate was willing to pay for the repairs but it was such a hassle and I had to waste so much time and take days off from work to get it repaired. HUGE waste of time. We've had Vivint for a few months now for our home and it was okay at first.. until it was not. We started having many issues with the system such as it disarmed by itself when we weren't home, failed to capture 2 separate occasions where there was thieves stealing things from our neighbor's cars, and didn't record loud sounds like gunshots which we also heard. We had an occasion yesterday where there was a large sound almost like an explosion and the camera outside failed to capture it or at least let me review video playback. I tried seeing why it wasn't working or saving videos and it turned out my smart drive wasn't even connected or working AT ALL. It kept flashing blue/green at first, I googled what that was and how to fix it myself. Tried doing it but to no avail. Then I contacted tech support this morning, they tried rebooting the smart drive, giving me tips on what to do, restarting my wifi, logging in and out of the Vivint app, and finally... no solution. They offered to replace the Smart Drive equipment for a "small" price of $4.95 and they said it would be coming in 7-10 days. To my surprise, they also told me the Vivint cameras weren't designed to record motion or cars, only people. This was really concerning for me as most car thieves show up in CARS at night and swiftly steal whatever they need to. So if it doesn't happen to record a person in whatever unfortunate situation you are in, too bad for you. We had Ring and ADT before but poor choices caused us to switch to this unfortunate fraud of a company. Will be switching back. 0/10 don't recommend and if i were you, i'd save my time and money before doing anything silly with them. read more

Poor Business practices. This is an alarm company that cannot guarantee its services or its equipment. These salespeople practice unethical means to get contracts signed and never follow up as said. You can never get customer support long wait times and if you do it is over sea's when you request to speak with someone in the US it doesn't happen though Vivint is based out of Utah. Aggressive door to door soliciting! Reading the reviews it is obvious this is how they train their salespeople. Be aggressive, disrespectful of the time of day, and the non soliciting Colorado law. bsolutely terrible company that will not let you cancel your account. We submitted our cancellation request on October 20,2022 after fulfilling our contract. We emailed the cancellation request to them per the customer service reps directions, we were told that we would have our service cancelled. I called several times over the last 6 months just to be told "we already received your cancellation request and it will processed in 3 to 5 days. After I called in February the customer service rep informed me we would receive a reimbursement for any monthly charges since they cancellation was requested. They are unprofessional and if you call them and just want your cancellation processed which is supposed to be really easy within 3 to 5 business days, it's like pulling teeth with the rudest customer service reps you will ever find. Please never use this company or even consider it. They just want your money and don't care about you as a customer. After 6 months of our cancellation being processed we still are being charged and our account has not been canceled. I tried to cancel back in May and the guy I talked to made a deal of $19.99 a month. Three months later I gat charged $109 ($49 overcharged). I wanted to cancel my service within the trial period and when I spoke with the rep Ricky and the call center associate, they both said that they would be able to get my issue resolve and to give them a couple days and someone will call with what I would need to do next. This occurred on August 23rd and its now Sept. 1st and still nothing from them. Now they're trying to charge me a cancellation fee. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH VIVINT. The worst security system of ALL. The app worked fine and then it didn't. For 2 months now almost daily when we open the app on either of our phones, there is a black screen and no access to the security system, the cameras, and no ability to fix it. It either has to be uninstalled and reinstalled or customer service has to be called. I Can Only Imagine what would happen if there was an intruder. The first time this happened we were out of state. I was beyond frustrated! I wish we had stayed with Brinks or ADT or any of the companies we had in the last 20 years. The system is based on a great idea that apparently the company has not learned to implement. Either their system ischeap or the technology has not been well thought out and put together. I have heard and read many negative things about this company but recently I decided to give them a chance and I now agree with all the things I've read. This is NOT a good company and I've advise against using them, they are very rude and hostile with customers, it's seriously concerning that behavior is even allowed. I made an inquiry online, while I was at work and figured they'd call but not every ten minutes for the entire day, I ended up blocking their number after about the 5th time. I unblocked their number the following day as I did want to inquire still. I didn't get their first two calls but they were calling every two hours at this point, finally I had a moment to answer and I let the rep know I was no longer interested. I stated their calls were honestly just too much. His response was "if I were you I'd never inquire about anything online again." I said I inquired but didn't expect to be harassed! He continued calling me down. At this point I was hanging up and could still hear him going on and on. I got in touch with their corporate, the fact that you can clearly tell they didn't read the email I sent was comical. Their response was to get in touch giving my code word, I stated I was NOT a customer but someone who was considering them and no longer am due to how bad their customer service was. The day Vivint was to install our security system, they attempted to start at 9pm the night of the sale as our 8 month old daughter was sleeping. We declined and asked if they would return the next day. The sales person, Kris, then pushed for the morning. We told Kris we would not be available until the afternoon, since my wife works half days and I work full time. They agreed but with some protest thinking we would backout before install. Phil, the technician, showed up before the afternoon and started the work unsupervised and unauthorized. During that time the technician left our garage door open and unattended allowing for over $4,000 worth of bikes to be stolen. After Phil's gross negligence, rather than make us whole, Vivint proceeded to tell us there was nothing they could do except to reduce the monthly cost for the security service for the first three months--totaling only $80 in promotional savings. Removing the system took several weeks as we did not want the original technician anywhere near our house. Over that time Vivint continued to try to push us to keep their system. Never have I nor my wife felt more exploited, bullied, and violated by a professional organization. They falsely stated we were "a marketing house" and would get amazing discounts for the alarm system. They never were honest about the finances. I have had vivint since about July and since then nothing but issues. The system resets, the key pad doesn't work properly and paying the bill on the equipment is a nightmare. I just called to cancel my service and got the run around by the 1st guy and then the supervisor I spoke to, Was no help. We spent over an hour on hold wait for the supervisor and then was told we couldn't cancel the service unless we paid the rest of the total amount on the equipment and the supposed contract time on the service. Always have problems with one camera. I do what they tell you to do and it doesn't work to reboot camera. You have to be home to fix problem. When gone then camera is offline and you can't view. You have to be home to unplug camera and then plug it back in. That's what you have to do. A lot of good a camera is if you can't see what's going on when your away. They then blame it on my equipment not theirs. But, they will try to sell you something else. Their app doesn't coincide with the main pad in the house. read more

This company is predatory. The salesman parked in our kitchen and refused to leave until my wife signed some deal. He made false promises of a 30 day free trial period and compensatory gifts. Lied about several aspects of our lives and circumstances to reduce price to lock us into a 60 month contract. We tried to cut the cord after 6 days, during COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons related to remote work, and huge drain on WiFi speeds, and they want 3K to get out of the bill. I purchased some cameras and monitor and set up to have them come out and install I was told the installation would be $99 and $49 a month upon asking if there was any other fees the sales rep told me no. I made it very clear to the him i had two cameras & questioned if there was any extra fees and he assured me that I would only be paying the $99 installation .Day of installation the technician approaches me never introduces himself, and when I say let me grab the cameras questions I'm installing cameras first off why would the company send some technician out to my house with no acknowledgment of what he's doing !Then proceeds to tell me what you know it's gonna be $390. why that was never disclosed, he said, how do you think I'm supposed to get paid??!! Excuse me. I feel like I'm being scammed now !I called the 800 number and finally get somebody and rudely "aaron" tells me they're not gonna do anything different for you. They're waiving the $99 installation fee so now I'm confused I was only told that there was $99 installation fee but if that's being waived, why am I still paying 290? proceed to tell him I don't trust him I actually felt super uncomfortable with him in my home. He questioned where I got the cameras from and was very awkward. I didn't feel safe with this technician in my house especially because all of a sudden there's new never disclosed cost! I made him leave. Mind you I took off of work and waited two weeks for this installation upon speaking to Supervisor. The only compensation they offered was $10 off a month service charge, but then tells me it is 150 per camera to be installed that was never disclosed so unprofessional. When I asked if it would be 300 even she then tells me there's tax I work in the service industry. I don't understand how you can tax a service ! They would come out "fix" the issue and within minutes of the tech leaving the cameras would go off line. Vivint has NOT offered any remedy to the problem or providing any resolution. They have faulty and shitty equipment. The techs and customer service reps even tried to blame it on the internet but we have told them we have top of the line internet. They also disrespected my husband who is a U.S. Air Force veteran when how condescending they were when speaking to us. We called multiple times a day to report the cameras not working and going offline. Each time the reps were awful or put us on hold for minutes at a time. We did tell them they are not holding up their end of the contract with the shitty faulty equipment, we made it clear we are not paying a dime for an early contract termination as we are NOT PAYING for services NOT rendered. Today I talked with Dave and once again these people have the skill set of a knat! 1 I moved to Carbondale Colorado which - you can move to another location with Vivint but they have no license for new customers (so none of my neighbors can get Vivint) 2 it takes 2-3 weeks to get a tech to my area because they are not in my area (Glenwood Springs to Aspen) 3 their customer service is crap and just want to keep locking you into a longer contract. 4 I have had the same equipment in 3 houses and if I am paying all this money they should upgrade as apart of my package (not spend more money on new technologies) The supervisors would not let me talk to their managers. Our neighborhood has been getting hit by a bunch of hooligans lately, which you'd think would make me want to get some security cameras. Problem is, the hooligans are actually door-to-door solicitors for Vivint. Not only do they blatantly disregard the "No Soliciting" signs on my and my neighbors' doors, then they refuse to take "No thank you" or, "I'm not interested" as an answer. Worse yet, they keep trying to sell me a security system when they had to ring my Ring doorbell (hint: it has a f*^%ing camera) and after I point out the other cameras I have around the house. If you're going to bother me at my house by trying to sell me shit I don't need after I told you I don't want it, least ya'll can do is send Snoop Dog down here with a sack full of weed to sweeten the deal, not some snooty 20 year old who either can't read or just doesn't give a damn. Vivint is the worst security company by far. They are nothing more than a scam where they try to lock you into a contract. The product is junk, and will never work properly after installation. They offer free service visits in the first 4 months following installation, and then you are on your own. All of the features they have, when working, are so delayed that by the time the video pops up with someone at your doorbell, the person is already gone.
