After calling another "mobile" locksmith (supposedly with 5 stars on 1600 ratings!) who transferred me to 3 different people who only wanted to rekey my car, I called this place. A person answered, understood the problem immediately, and actually has a shop to which I could bring it. They fixed the problem quickly and appropriately, were extremely friendly and efficient, and charged a very fair price. If they don't have the key, then they'll order it for you. Parking is street only so you may have to park at a cross street depending on what time of day you're rolling in. They're super knowledgeable and fast on the copies. I don't know if their prices are fair because there aren't many of us out there that comparison shop for key copies. But I purchase a few specialty keys and their pricing is competitive. The main reason I go here rather than somewhere close by is because the guys that work here are cool. Really disappointed in Denver Key & Lock. I need my locks re-keyed in my Denver home, so I called to make an appointment. Denver Key & Lock gave me a 2-hour window, from 9am to 11am. Simple enough, right? Wrong. By 11am the day of the appointment, I had not heard from anyone with Denver Key & Lock. I gave them a call. The woman who answered their phone was rude and dismissive, telling me they would be there "from 9-11am." She also told me the technician would give me a call soon about his ETA. I waited 10 minutes. No call. No one here. I called back to check on the status. The same woman answered, equally as rude and dismissive, though this time she was also clearly annoyed with my second phone call. She told me they will be here "soon." I asked what "soon" means, because I cannot be waiting around all day for them. She said 5-10 minutes. Here I am, at 11:15am. No locksmith. 15 minutes past their 2-hour window, which is already quite generous in my opinion. Someone ended up showing up at 11:30am, which is not that late, but I am amazed no one followed up with me - was I just supposed to sit around all day? The two workers that came were very nice and respectful, but I was surprised to find my bill was nearly $300 after being quoted somewhere around $140. Not their fault - it seems like the main office just has a lot of miscommunications. If you value your time, do not work with Denver Key & Lock. If you want to be treated with respect, do not work with Denver Key & Lock. I had been looking for a key copy of a storm door forever, all the hardware chain stores and big box home improvement key copying places did not have blanks for this key. I finally found and ordered blanks online and returned to a local hardware store to get a copy only to have the duplicate useless due to a misaligned copy. After some research, I was recommended by Broadway Key to try out this place....brought my blanks, and had a copy made here at Denver Key...not only did they have these hard to find blanks, but they examined the faulty copy and figured out how to make a successful copy free of charge to try out. Outrageously priced!!! I called them about a doorknob that had been sticking and they replaced a piece inside the knob and the total charge was $125----a $75 fee simply for coming out to the house which I was never told about until the work was completed. So basically in 10 minutes he pulled apart the doorknob, replaced a part and told me how much I owed without ever discussing a single charge with me. After discussing with my husband I called them and told them I was not happy due to the fact I was never told about the fee to come out, if I had been I would have looked elsewhere and I told them I'd pay the part fee but not the other portion. We agreed upon a $75 bill in total but I did that simply to be done with them and not have wasted as much money. read more

We needed to have a door handle repair/adjustment. The door handle and latch was functional, it just needed a handle repair. After more than an hour, I was left with a ziplock baggie full of parts and a non-functioning door closure! He couldn't even return it to the original status let alone fix the problem.The recommendation was to buy a whole new door handle and deadbolt from them. Well I done locked myself out of my apt during laundry... I'll never figure out how... oh well. However it really ended up being a great experience! I called up Denver Lock & Key at the recommendation of my landlord and they were at my front door in 20 min, even after getting lost on the way. Seth could not have been friendlier and more professional. He gave me a little lesson on how locks and keys work and the like which I thought was a really great touch. I apparently had a bear of a lock but he powered through and then offered to throw in two key copies for squirreling away for future use. $65 got me back in my place and two spares, seems like a hell of a deal to me. read more

Great local locksmith with fair prices and excellent service. I needed two key blanks cut that were part of a Land Rover key fob replacement set I ordered online, so the remotes already worked, I just needed the key blanks cut. I originally went to Home Depot and they told me they wouldn't cut a key blank not purchased from them...and their machine didn't even recognize my key to purchase a blank from them. Denver Lock and Key not only had me in and out with two working keys in less than five minutes, they took the time to explain and ensure that my key blades would be cut correctly. Offering adjustment and follow up service should they not (I didn't have the vehicle with me). Got home and they work perfect! Thank you! I'll be back for sure! read more

What a JOKE!!!! we order parts for a custom made door more than six weeks ago and when I called today after calling to check on the status of many time I was told that they were just ordered last week after I called and asked to speak to the owner, I was told the owner would call me on Friday and I never heard from her. I went in today to get my apartment building key made to give to my boyfriend. The key does NOT say "no not copy", and I've had it copied in the past. The woman who helped me was extremely rude and short and said they wouldn't copy the key for me because it was "security building key" and I had to call the maker of the key company. She was not helpful at all and made me feel stupid for trying to copy it. I understand if that is their policy not to copy it, but it was very unnecessary to be so rude to me about it! ********ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE--DO NOT USE********* We have used their services in the past frequently and we will NEVER be using them again and I highly recommend no one else does either. We had them install a feature on our businesses door to make the door lock automatically each time it closes. Due to the shoddy craftsmanship and lack of care taken, the lock itself was left loose and the doorknob was left basically hanging out of the door. The next day when we got to the office, the door would not open with any keys given to us and made by Denver Key and Lock that we were told would unlock them. I contacted Denver Key and Lock to resolve this issue first thing in the morning, and they blew me off saying no one could help me until 3PM and we effectively lost an entire days worth of business because of this terrible company. When I called to speak with a manager she did not care at all that their unprofessional business had caused these problems, and was rude. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. We live in a very old house in Cherry Creek and we needed to change out the front and back door locks. We first went to Home Depot to find the replacements. They didn't have the correct brand. They suggested we go to Denver Key and Lock. We went there and we dealt with Seth. He was super nice and knew his stuff. He had our replacement locks for $140.00 each. So, we went home and installed the first lock with a couple issues, but when we called Denver Key and Lock they walked us through it. When we went to replace the second lock we found that there were not door handles in the box. We called Denver Key and Lock and once again spoke to Seth and told him we couldn't find any door handles in one of the boxes. He said he looked around the shop and couldn't find them either. He said he would go the next morning to the warehouse and pick up two more handles. At 11:00 the next day we drove over there and Seth forgot to pick up the handles. We really wanted to finish our project so he said he would call the warehouse and we could go there and they would be there waiting for us. So, we drove the 6 miles on Denver city streets over to the Intermountain Lock and Key. We told the gentleman at the pickup window about our situation and that Seth was supposed to have called. Well, there was no record of a call. So, I called Denver Key and Lock and spoke to a woman and she said that Seth had called and that she would call Intermountain Lock and Key again and find out what happened. After waiting for 10 more minutes the gentleman at the pickup window call Denver Key and Lock. He spoke to a woman, Timber, and she told the gentleman to tell us to come back to their store to pick up the handles. Completely frustrated, we went to our car and called Denver Key and Lock and the woman said that Seth went to another supplier to get the handles for a cheaper price and that he would be back there is 20 minutes and that we were to go there and pick up our handles! She said that Seth tried to catch us before we left, which is a complete lie, because by the time Seth would have called another supplier it would have been at least 5 minutes after he told us to head over to Intermountain Lock and Key. We then drove the six miles back to Denver Key and Lock, in traffic to pick up our door handles. So instead of sucking it up and just paying the extra money so as not to further inconvenience his customer, Seth decided to save a buck at the expense of his customer. When we got to Denver Key and lock the guy behind the counter couldn't find the door handles. We asked if Seth had made it back there yet, and he said yes but was not there at the moment because he ran an errand. After looking he found the handles and said he didn't know how much they would be. He must have seen the smoke rising from my head because he went and asked someone if there was a charge. He was told there was no charge. We took our handles and got in our car as Seth pulled up and was getting pizza out of the back of his van. We tried to support the local business but sometimes it's just not worth it. So, when we got home I looked online to see how much our door locks were...they were $65.00. If Denver Key and Lock would have been more considerate they may not have lost this customer. read more

I called yesterday lunchtime and was delighted that they were able to send someone out straight away to our multi-family rental property in Denver. We had flown in from DC to do an inspection of the property and to show it to an agent that will likely sell it for us but the key that the property manager left for one unit did not work so I suspect the tenant changed the lock. The technician arrived in less than 20 minutes, was polite and obviously skilled and I thought the $95 charge quite reasonable considering the emergency and we had to get him to relock the door after we did a quick walk-through. We had trouble turning the key in the screen door. We called, and Seth came out. Yes he re-keyed our doors, made extra keys, came in a timely manner, worked efficiently, and answered all of my questions. But beyond that Seth explained, when in a pinch using an oil based lubricant in the lock was okay, but on a regular basis (the way we use it) it was not the best choice. The oil gathers within the lock's internal mechanism and collects dust and dirt thus doing more harm than good in the long run. He talked about using a different product they sell at the store that is Teflon based. In a few minutes he educated me about my locks that will prolong their usage for years. I believe the best kind of customer service experience is getting more than one expected and becoming in the process better educated. I am extremely happy with the service from Denver Key & Lock, and I say that as a person who has worked in the customer service field and not easily pleased.
