Decided to have a nice brunch where We were able to sit outside and catch-up on life with a friend. Hadn't been to matchbox in about 3 years so I loved that they now had Sunday brunch options on their menu. Good was lovely. Atmosphere made me feel safe regarding covid protocols. I will most definitely be visiting again soon. read more

nothing to say just horrible it took a long period of time for my food and this is just a horrible place

Arrived and was immediately told that the wait time would be 1 1/2 and to make a reservation. However, we did that and once we notified her, the hostess said that does not work and we would still have to wait. Maybe think smarter and don't tell people to make a reservation if it doesn't work? Asked if bar was open seating and she replied "if you want to" really low and with unnecessary attitude. Blessing in disguise. read more

While working at Sawgrass Mills mall today, we decided to stop here for lunch. We sat at the bar as there was open seating there, and no waiting. Cassandra was the bartender/waitress working there today (She's a lover of cats; her cat's name is Cheech. You'll understand when you see her.) She was friendly. And service was fine. The lunch menu had a number of options -- lots of kale, wood fired pizzas (for those not on a schedule), sandwiches, and full blown entrees. We decided to share their mini sliders appetizer and a Caesar salad. The tiny burgers come in either 3 or 6 or 9. We ordered 6 of them. They come on cute little buns with a round pickle slice on each. It's served with a mass of fried onion straws over the top of them. A small ramekin of ketchup is on the side of the plate, too. We asked for them to be cooked medium but they were pretty well done -- probably because they are so small. In addition, we shared a Caesar salad as we knew the lettuce would be romaine (she wasn't sure what lettuce came on the "simple salad" which had sounded more appealing). The meal was enough for two to share, but not very exciting. The Caesar has a cheese on it similar to Parmesan-Romano, but was called "grano padano". This cheese is on a number of items on their menu. As Cassandra didn't know what it was, I googled it. The salad also had garlic croutons. Basically, it was a bowl of lettuce with a bit of nondescript dressing. We ate it -- hey, we needed some veggies -- but it was just okay. Overall lunch was okay and our selections were relatively reasonable compared to some of the other menu items which were a bit pricier. One thing that was a bit off was that both times I was in the restaurant (I came by later to use the facilities), the staff was clustered around the hostess desk chatting. In addition to the overflowing garbage can near the restrooms, this didn't leave the best impression. read more

Really enjoyed the food here and mostly like their appetizer calamari and Arancini Fried Risotto Balls . And their pizza is wood fired grilled and tastes good . I really enjoy dining at Matchbox because the food is surely delicious and they have a great happy hour which is perfect for before or after shopping BUT the service here is horrendous. I sat at the bar for happy hour and it took over five minutes for one of the four bartenders to acknowledge me. I ordered my drink and two happy hour apps immediately because I knew I wouldn't see a bartender for a while (and I was right). It took ten minutes for my simple cocktail to be made. Thirty minutes later I received my calamari and wings. Slow service from the bartenders to the kitchen. The food here is delicious. The calamari is always fresh and comes with a delicious dipping sauce. The wings are zesty and full of white meat. I get them well done and they are excellent. I have been here three different times, twice I dined at the bar and once at a regular table and the service has been very bad each time. It's a shame because the food is amazing! read more

Great spot to grab a bite at the mall or if you're in the area. Parking can be rough but the earlier you go the better off you'll be in that department- kind of how the entire mall is! The happy hour drink specials are great and the drinks are always top! The wide array of foods is wonderful for families and larger groups as you'll find they have something for everyone. The pizza and burgers are delicious, kids love the shakes, and the brunch menu is worth going in a bit early for! Service has always been great here. We have one picky little eater and the Servers have been kind and patient helping out to where kiddo was happy and parents didn't stress. read more

I was a couple of days ago looking for a place to eat and I found this on the search list. I had such a great time with a friend and our kids eating here. We had pizza, buffalo wings and drinks. I just loved everything but most of all the service. Mery was the lady taking care of us and she was definitely more than 5 stars. I can't wait to go back and sit with her. read more

Meet my kids here for dinner since none of us had ever been. The interior is open and inviting. It has a very industrial look with lots of wood and metal. The smell of the wood fired oven will defiantly draw you in. There's a large bar and outside seating for people watching. We started with the hot artichoke and spinach dip. It was really good and cheesy. There was actually more dip than bread, which is the total opposite of what usually happens. We asked for extra bread and they brought it right out. For dinner I had the spicy tuna tartare tacos. You can order three or six. I ordered three but they are small so order six if you're hungry. They were really good with a nice crunchy shell and spicy mayo drizzle. We also ordered the grilled chicken and pesto sandwich, bistro burger and prosciutto and fig pizza. The pizza was delicious and the table favorite. The addition of black pepper honey gave it just a hint of sweet and was perfect. Service was a little weird but wouldn't keep us from coming back. The waiter took the adult drink order first and didn't ask the kids (20 year olds) if they wanted anything other than water until he returned with our beers. The burger came out way before anything else so he was almost finished by the time we got the rest of the food and the appetizer dishes were never cleared from the table. All in all I'd go back. Maybe try brunch next time since it sounded really good. read more

My experience was terrible here. We came on a Sunday at 6 p.m. We sat at the outside patio which was nice. Our server was not attentive as we hoped for. He disappears for the longest time. He only had 4 tables to wait on. First we ordered the chicken wings which I thought was good. Not great but good. The crab soup was delicious. I then ordered a Cobb salad. You can pay to add protein so I added crispy chicken for an additional $6. Salad came and looked messy. You know Cobb salad always looks nice and lined up with the stuff it comes with. Nope, not mines. It was just tossed on there. The chicken was over fried. It was dark and hard. The dressing was already added in there but I needed more. At this point I'm so thrown off, I can't even complain because my server was no where to be found. Not to upset anyone at the table I just started eating my tossed dry salad with burnt chicken. Halfway through our meal, guess who decides to show up! Yes! Finally our server. The audacity to come and ask "how's everything folks?" When my husband showed him my burnt crispy chicken, he asked if he can take it back and get another. I said no as everyone is almost done eating. He said ok, let me see what I can do and he walked away. He came back later to check on us and we asked for the tab. He didn't deduct anything from our tab! Husband said, "I don't think we should be charge for the burnt chicken that she didn't eat," and he's response was, " right, that makes sense." . You think?! The so called craft drinks were good. There was a DJ playing music in the patio which was nice. I won't be returning. read more

My friend and I was looking for a black owned brunch spot and came across Matchbox. On arrival we were greeted by the hostess. She was friendly and had someone walk us to our table immediately. We didn't wait long before we were greeted by our waitress. I can't recall her name but she was nice and polite. I ordered the bottomless mimosas and she got a single drink. I would say the bottomless mimosas is worth it. Upon waiting for our drinks we saw food coming out for other tables and everything looked good and smelled amazing. We shared the dynamite shrimp, the mini French toast burgers. Everything was delicious. Due to us sitting and talking so long we decided to order some wings and fries. I have no complaints in the food category. I do wish they had a larger brunch menu but that's the only complaint. read more

First time back in about 6 months. Was a big fan until recent - perhaps new ownership. To start the cilantro lime chicken salad my wife normally orders as a main meal, today was tiny and for $18 (see pic) comically small. The pizza was undercooked and also stood out so long the cheese was hard (see pic). We probably won't be back. read more

Visited here for a brunch and ordered the blackened chicken kale bowl. It was so good! Everything was fresh - there is chicken, tomatoes, mango, carrots and avocado. I'm not a big fruit on salad person, but the mango was just the right amount. The dressing that came with it was amazing. It was a nice size and filling. I would suggest making reservations if visiting here, it got pretty packed. They did a good job with social distancing the tables. read more

Fun place with indoor and outdoor dining on the outskirts of Sawgrass Mills Mall. Spinach artichoke dip was very good. Apple pear salad with grilled shrimp was delicious. As an individual that hosts brunches at any given restaurant i was extremely disappointed at the service that matchbox has to offer at their sunrise location. back story, my co-workers and i have brunch once a month at any given restaurant between Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. We knew the only day we would be available is the Saturday before Mother's day. We arrived at our scheduled time and were seated 20 minutes later. Our waitress Amal, we think that was her name was so soft spoken we asked her several times to speak up. Of which she did not. It was extremely frustrating as i have never been to Matchbox for brunch...For the fee of 42/pp it was nice to have all those options. We have been to places with brunch at 100/pp with no where near the options/selections that matchbox offered. would love how does a place so well know confuse people with their options. You can have this but not that. Wait What? you can order this but you have to go and get it from over there...huh? When we first sat down we informed her that we will each take care of our bill. We knew what we ate/drank and when it was time to leave; we spent another 20 minutes waiting for Amal to split the check four ways. The fact that we ere 4 at a table and could only order three items was beyond ridiculous. When asked for a final personal receipt we were disgusted that we sat waiting for another 20-2 minutes and still our receipts never arrived. When I reviewed my cc statement it went from 71.02 + 10.00 tip to almost 100.00. called to matchbox to inquire what is going on and no one will pick up. We asked other waitresses for assistance and they gladly assisted and returned quickly although they had their own tables. As stated prior I host brunches each month. 3 to 4 times a month. This is a restaurant we will not be attending again...the service is awful. Please retrain this staff member on the proper ways of your business so that mistakes like this do not happen again. FYI we are still awaiting our receipts. read more

Isiah greeted us at the entrance, and we were delighted to find out he was our waiter. Such a wonderful spirit, so pleasant. I explained to him that I was originally from the DC area and grew up eating Matchbox for over 20 years at the various DMV locations. It is one of my favorites. My husband's first time at Matchbox, so the pressure was on. The General Manager "Dino" came out and greeted us with complimentary appetizers. We had a delightful conversation about us both being from the DMV area. He was just amazing. I mentioned that we were visiting the area and it was our 3rd wedding anniversary. Both gentlemen made us feel so special, and you can really tell the staff cares about their customers. My husband enjoyed the experience and loved all the delicious food. My family will be back in the area for Thanksgiving from DC. We plan to visit the restaurant after shopping at the mall for Black Friday. read more

When we use to live here we would come here all the time. Since we came in from out of town to visit a friend and attend a concert why not stop by. We saw a sign for brunch that also said bottomless mimosas so we planned to have brunch there for the bottomless mimosas. We go there for them to tell us they no longer do it. We asked to speak to manager and said it was false advertising and he stated not really we're waiting on new signs to come in but you can buy a bottle of champagne blah blah. He was not willing to work with us based on their false advertising and the service wasn't great saw our waitress only when she took our order or brought our food out. The best part I said let me take a picture of the false advertising sign when we left it was magically REPLACED. read more

Mediocre at its best. I've been to matchbox twice. The first time our food took an entire hour. The bartender kept telling us that the kitchen was backed up however, everyone else at the bar got their order even though we order our food first. When we did get our food, the food was just OK. However, the manager did give us free meals for our next visit so we came back a second time. The second time we came, we ordered the po boy sandwich, artichoke and spinach dip, and the chimichurri steak. The bread with the artichoke and spinach dip was burnt. Like black burnt. I don't know why they would even serve it to us. It was so disrespectful. We had to send it back. The shrimp on the sandwich has so thickly breaded. You can barely find the shrimp in the bread. And the steak was barely seasoned. However, this spinach artichoke dip once they remade it was pretty good. The place was clean, and the host was nice. However, service was slow and I would not go back and spend my money there. If we didn't have the free entrées due to the first mishap, I would have never been back. And I will not go back again read more

Still enjoy the food, but recent changes to wine serving feels like being taken advantage of. 6/9 oz pour has become 5/8 oz. That alone is an 11 to 16% increase in cost, plus an apparent uptick in the per glass cost as well. Overall, they might be pricing out of the rotation. Too bad, but time to branch out. read more

Another wonderful experience at Matchbox Sawgrass. This time, we picked up a pizza upon the restaurants opening. The hostess was kind and helpful and quickly picked up our pizza that was just being boxed and garnished. The option for half and half was appreciated as my son loves pepperoni and I do not eat meat. I opted for the gluten free dough and was impressed! It was crispy and light giving the pizza the texture (and reduced guilt) of a flatbread. My Fire + Smoke side was one of the best pizzas I have had and I couldn't wait to eat a slice before leaving the parking lot (or taking a picture ) Matchbox has become one of my favorite and most consistent eateries in the area and I look forward to returning to try bruch read more

I am updating my review due to a personal invitation back from the general manager of matchbox sawgrass. I was delighted to give this place another chance as my second time went really great. The server I believe her name was Kirsten or kristen was very kind to us and helped out a lot with ordering. We decided to try the famous tuna tacos and the ny strip steak. The tuna tacos were really good the only issue may be the pricing, 3 tacos are 12$ and 6 little tacos are 19$. Which many asian restaurants 3 tacos are usually 6$. Still really good tacos, could use a fresh element to it like cucumbers or avacado. The ny strip was well seasoned cooked how we asked, it came with french fries cant complain. I see not many people order it so I decided to try it out. And yes it is really good and worth it. The best part is the dessert we decided to try for $10.25 is this blueberry muffin french toast with lemon curd and crunchy almonds. OMG IT WAS AMAZING!!!! warm, sweet, perfectly fluffy. Also had a rasperry sauce on top, it needs the vanilla ice cream that is what made it perfect. I do wish there was two scoops of icecream because it was that good but we still ate every bite. Overall, great new restaurant in saw grass for everyone to try out. It may be extremely busy some days so try to go when it's not extremely busy. Thank you again to the general manager for having us back. read more

I've been going to the sawgrass mall for as long as I've been living in Florida. And for some reason, I've never eaten at this restaurant. Mainly because I never walked by it. It's tucked away outside by the outdoor section of shopping, near the higher end stores. I'm disappointed in myself because this place was such a great restaurant. When you first walk in, you're hit with the aroma of the food cooking which smells so good. We sat outside, since it was cooler out that day, they have a fire pit out there as well. Servers, super nice, super helpful, no complaints from me. The food was fresh, tasty, a little on the higher end of the price scale, but not overly expensive. You're getting what you pay for, really good food, cooked well. They have brunch all day, amongst other things. I will be going back because they have a pizza that sounded great, that I want to try. Overall, 5/5, I will be going again. Great place to eat when you need a break from shopping. read more

What a beautiful surprise, a couple of Sunday mornings ago when Hubby arranged for a few of our friends to join us for my birthday brunch. How does a husband pull off such a feat when only being told the day before that I'd even wanted a birthday brunch. I couldn't help but celebrate his effort as well as enjoy my special occasion. Thanks to a recent Yelp Community event held here, that I thoroughly enjoyed, I decided that this was where I wanted to celebrate. I couldn't wait! My family ordered bottomless mimosas, chicken and waffles, the garden skillet, steak and eggs, and the blueberry muffin French toast. Wow! Everything was so tasty, seasoned well and the presentation was exactly what I expected. Our server, Christine, did well to entertain our crowd and kept the champagne coming. Her cue was the upside down empty champagne bottles that let her know we were ready for more. I loved the variety of juices that accompany the champagne. We had a constant flow to choose from - orange juice, pineapple juice, mango, peach, and cranberry juice. My favorite was the orange and peach. We sat around the fire pit on the patio, although it wasn't lit (it was way too hot for that), it was still an enjoyable dining experience with a view of the shopping center. I love the decor. The restaurant is so unassuming to me. It doesn't look like it has all of that going on on the inside. When I first walked in and took in the views I was completely impressed with the style, layout and the many different areas to dine. Inside, there's a private 8-seat chef's table the overlooks the kitchen, making it easy to see all the action. And, if dining on the outside patio or the inside doesn't sound appealing, you can head upstairs and enjoy a dining experience on their deck that overlooks the busyness of the patrons shopping below. I can't wait to go back, this time for lunch or happy hour with the girls. I'm certain whenever I do it'll be another great experience. read more

This restaurant is perfect for either groups or work meetings. They have both covered patio and inside seating, a full bar and every plate I've tried here is delicious. They have improved on the service compared to previous times I've been there. Parking is a bit tough as they are located on sawgrass mills mall and during the holidays the mall is packed. They are located where the colonnade outlets stand. We tried during this visit the fried chicken Cobb salad and the chorizo burger. The fried chicken Cobb was cooked to perfection although it felt like the size was reduced a bit for the chicken. Chorizo burger is one of my favorite plates at this place. If you're not on the calorie counting phase, I definitely recommend this blend of chorizo and beef cooked to perfection! Our server was Erin very attentive and recommended to order etc. We waited about 2 minutes to be seated and the atmosphere was perfect for a good conversation. 12/20/2018- attended one more time with the team for the Christmas celebration party and we had a blast. They accommodated us greatly and food was amazing! I have added more photos! Yesterday I tried the crab cake sandwich which was extremely good. read more

Great Date Night Spot! My boyfriend and I came here for date night. The restaurant has plenty of seating and a great ambiance. We sat outside, our table was sanitized prior and the staff all wore masks; our waitress even wore gloves. To start, we split the 3 mini burgers. The onion straws were my favorite touch! I decided to get a margarita pizza and a side Caesar salad. To my surprise, this was a pretty large pizza and not personal sized! I had plenty of leftovers! So I've been to Matchbox twice - once for a random night and the second time at a Yelp Elite event. I've already reviewed the elite event but this review is in reference to the time we spent here after the event. During my first visit, I ordered the spinach dip and a make-your-own pizza. That spinach dip made me do a little dance in my seat. It was really good. I secretly wish it had crab in it but either way, it was really really good! I was able to put two pizzas together in one order. I had a half-Margarita half artichoke pesto pizza. OMG OMG!! Super gooey awesomeness!! The brownie was disappointing. It was cold and hard. I am not so big on chocolate so I am in no rush to try it again. MEH! My second visit was more memorable however. Our server Estephania was super sweet. We truly enjoyed her pleasant demeanor and bubbly personality. Especially after such a late evening, it was close to 10 p.m. We did not order much. I enjoyed a jalapeno margarita and my friend ordered some smoked wings. I did enjoy one wing and it was rather tasteful. Smoked I believe is like a special order. Very happy that Estephania was able to convince the cooks in the back to hook us up. We were so full from the elite event and just really wanted to try one more item (wings). Overall, I have not complaints and I will return to try more awesome pizzas. I was pleased with my appetizers, drinks and entrees and most definitely the service. I highly recommend checking out matchbox for some good pizza and wings (SMOKED) and appetizers because I must say I haven't had anything that I didn't like yet. Last note - I really need them to replace that awful black bean burger with either an impossible burger or a beyond meat burger. Black bean is soooo yesteryear. read more
