We ordered 4 naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Paneer saag, chicken biryani, and malai kofta and it was perfectly filling for 5 people. We're Indian and Stu j to the medium spice level and it was flavorful. The service was absolutely wonderful and the food was ready quickly as well. 10/10 would definitely recommend to all my friends stopping by in the area. The tender chicken came marinated in a steaming hot, thick tikka masala sauce, slightly spicier than I expected, but the cilantro suitably countered the spice. Unlike many Indian restaurants that use flavorless and/or short-grain rice, this one used delicious, fluffy, long-grain rice. I went to bed ruminating about my homey, warm, and pleasant food experience. The complimentary garlic naan came as an exciting surprise. I didn't care much for it--it was rather firm and garlic-y. However, I'm not generally partial to garlic naan. As a side note, the girl at the register was super nice, bubbly, and considerate. The heartwarming fact that this is a family establishment reinforces my positive regard for this place. Next time I come here, I'm going to try a vegan or vegetarian option with a dessert! read more

We went here for dinner and ordered the pakoras, chicken tikka masala, chicken botian, and naan. All of our dishes were well seasoned, and the chicken was perfectly cooked! The sauce with the pakoras was great. Our food came out very quickly - the appetizer took minutes and the mains were right after we finished our appetizer. Service was excellent. This is a NEW family owned Indian Restaurant with delicious food. I'm gluten and dairy free so even at Indian food restaurants I tend to get restricted to vegan options. Dilreet, the friendly and informative woman who answered the phone was able to explain how they could turn korma and tikka masala into dairy free using onion base or soy milk and could explain those options. I rarely find people who have the patience to answer my questions and who can accommodate so easily. This place is different. I chose the Chicken Tikka Masala with soy milk and it was delicious and the consistency was awesome. This is definitely worth the drive the next time I am flying in or out of Boston Logan Airport. Another tip if you aren't from around here. Across the street is Goodyear Tire. If you pull in there and go to the end you can cross the street into the parking behind Citizens Bank. This past weekend I went into Masala Square to try out their lunch special named "Lunch Square Meal" that I have seen flyers all around Union Square for. I ordered food at the counter and in a short amount of time the lunch special was brought out. As part of the lunch special which is $9.99 + tax you get three squares; an appetizer, a main, and a side. I went with a vegetable samosa as my appetizer, chicken tikka masala as my main, and garlic naan as my side. The food was delicious and I feel I definitely got my value worth for the $10ish dollars I paid for lunch. read more

I had Chicken Biryani. I would say it wasn't good. I had better biryanis. Even with high spices it was bland for me. The peas were undercooked. It was more of a chicken pulao rather than Chicken Biryani. The raita was good though. The menu doesn't have much options and is very limited. The food is great! I've only ever had delivery and it is almost always delivered by the same guy, who also helps run the restaurant. He is super friendly and very enthusiastic about the family business. My one qualm is that you don't get naan with the meals, but from what I understand that is more traditional as naan is apparently reserved for special occasions (this info was given to me by friend, not the restaurant). They served food at the festival in Union and for $8 all you got was a scoop of masala sauce with 2 little cubes of chicken floating in it over a palm sized disc. They couldn't spare 10 cents worth of rice to make it even 1/4th of a meal. Stingy. They added hot pepper relish over the top of the whole thing too without asking. read more

We love Masala Square! Great food, great portions, and the team that works there is awesome. We usually end up getting delivery, but went in to pick up food on one occasion, and the place has a really nice atmosphere. The staff was really nice while we waited for our food to go. We chatted, and they got us some waters while we waited, and urged us to come enjoy food in the restaurant sometime. Kid's menu items have fun names. My child loves telling me that they want "I don't want that". Delivery always comes right around the predicted time, if not faster. I've never had to follow up with them on an order that was late. The to go bowls for the kid's tikka masala is great, the rice and sauce are packed side by side, so if your child doesn't want the sauce on the rice, perfect! If they want to mix it in - also easy to do! Although note that the food is touching, if your kid doesn't like that, you should order the adult sized masala which is packed separately, or be sure to specify if they need to be in separate containers. Tip: When ordering online, order from their website rather than 3rd party. Note: The hours listed on Yelp are wrong. they close for part of the afternoon Mon-Wed, Friday, and Saturday. Delicious Indian food in the heart of Union Square! Masala Kitchen is a family-owned spot replacing the former India Palace. Seems like they mostly do a takeout business because the restaurant was completely empty when we came in for pickup, but it's bright and clean inside. Saag paneer, samosas, and garlic naan were hot, fresh, and delicious. Others seemed to enjoy the lamb korma and lamb vindaloo. Portions are big enough for two meals if you don't have a huge appetite. Vegetarian dishes are $13-15, meat dishes are $14-18, so prices are pretty on par with most Indian places. There are a lot of coupons available online too! read more

When I got home with the takeout from Masala Square, I told my family that if the food is as good as the staff were kind, we'd have a new favorite Indian restaurant. It was. I was greeted by a really nice woman. I was a little early so the food wasn't quite ready yet. My dog was outside so I told her I'd wait with him and be back in 5. She actually walked the food out to me. We got the Chicken Tika Masala, broccoli Naan, a vegan dish with lentils and a kids menu item. The kids menu is funny. It includes things like "I'm not hungry" or "I don't want that" which are essentially chicken fingers and fries for picky eaters. Everything was delicious. Quality ingredients, not too greasy. The atmosphere is more of a cafeteria style eatery with metal chairs and simple decorations. The menu is simple with clearly marked items for gluten free. You can mix and match your saag, vindaloo and several other traditional items with chicken at no up charge. Shrimp is a $1 and lamb is a $2. I ordered jut chicken vindaloo and lamb saag. They can make the saag without cream and the use a mix of spinach, broccoli as other greens. It was impressive to me as a person who loves greens that they could blend it to the consistency but keep the traditional flavor. I'll definitely return and worth trying. So excited this place has opened! We ordered our go-to dishes for take-out. Lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. Everything was top notch! The chicken tikka was rich and creamy - one of the best I've had. The lamb vindaloo had great flavor, tender meat, and a thick sauce. Even the rice was better than our typical Indian take-out. We're thrilled to have Masala Square in the neighborhood and will be regulars, I'm sure. Can't wait to branch out and try more. Quick note for ordering purposes: I spoke with the staff when I picked up my order and confirmed that the square meal deal portions are smaller than a typical entree and that deal includes a half portion of naan, some rice, and an appetizer.
