After being in Boston for 5 years, this was hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. The service was awful. My family and I waited over 50 minutes for our food. We watched over 20 online orders get sent out of the kitchen, and the waiters never came to our table to check on us. When complaining to the owner/manager, he expressed his apologies and mentioned that they were understaffed. This is no excuse for shitty service. If you are understaffed, why are you still taking so many online orders? Focus on your dine-in tables for the night! When the food did come, it was SO SO average -- something I didn't need to come all the way to Union Square for. Definitely not worth the wait. I can probably make them just as well at home and I am no chef. Then the bad: Chicken Tikka pizza was just bad. I asked for no onions and they still put on onions (not the reason why it was bad). The naan here is AMAZING! I just moved to the neighborhood and I'm so happy to have found this gem. It's a small and cozy spot. The family that runs it is very welcoming and kind. The recipes are so delicious and I can't wait to try the rest of the menu! The garlic cheese naan was some of the best naan I've ever had. They make it in a real tandoor which is how it is supposed to be made. The Punjabi wings were good. I think next time I'll try a different flavor because I prefer a spicier wing. A hidden gem in Somerville serving quality food. With less than 10 tables, this place was packed on a Friday night. It's cozy inside and they do have a small bar as well but I didn't see anyone sitting there. There were even people waiting outside for over half an hour just to be seated. Luckily we got there just in time and were able to snag a table without waiting. We started with mango lassi's to drink. They were refreshing but heavy, so I got water too. Since it was our first time, we decided to split a few appetizers. We started with the spicy chicken momos which were delicious, and also got the garlic cheese naan. The naan was so flavorful and fresh. I got the Chicken Makhani which was a butter chicken that came with rice. It had lots of flavor and was a good portion. My boyfriend got the Goat Biryani which he enjoyed a lot. We both got full quickly so had to take leftovers home but we weren't mad about this since the food was so delicious. They also served the food in take out containers so all we needed to do was ask for lids...smart on their end. Service was fast and we didn't wait long for the food. I will say that because there's limited tables, I felt like I was being rushed out towards the end, so they could seat another party. They kept coming over to ask if we needed anything. I understand this since it was busy, however it felt a little unpleasant. Nonetheless I still had a great experience overall and would come back. It's always nice to chat with Jay, the owner, he likes getting to know his customers which is a rarity with small restaurants these days. The staff is always friendly too. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The menu is authentic Nepalese dishes, but there's also an American /American Fusion section like pizzas, , wraps, wings, ribs. The restaurant was recently renovated in the past 2 years and is a great spot for date a night or small group and serves alcohol. The Chicken Tiki Masala was rich and savory. I loved it. The chicken was cooked perfectly and paired well with the sauce and garlic naan. Stopped by for a late lunch with our son who has just moved to Somerville. We were not disappointed. The menu is a mix of Indian and Himalayan (Nepali). We got a nice mix to try. Loved the flavors. The mo mo (dumplings) were the most meat packed dumplings we've ever had. The chatamari were so unique--a rice flour pancake bursting with spices and topped with an egg! We also shared the Nepali thali and the Newari Samay Baji. That gave us a taste of lots of Himalayan food. The chicken on the Thali dish was to die for. Topped it off with some fresh garlic naan. A great spot to get a quick, filling meal. We ordered the chicken momos, peshwari naan, and chicken palak for two people, which was more than enough. The space isn't huge, but it's cozy. The samosa chaat was a first for me, and it definitely won't be the last time I'll be ordering it. The chow mein looks plain, but actually tasted great. The momos are also good, though best when eaten hot so might need some reheating if you're taking it home. A decent local spot, but nothing was so good it's worth going out of your way. The chicken tikka masala had a nice rich flavor, but was definitely very sweet. The palak paneer was quite mild in flavor. Both weren't spicy at all. The rice that came with it was quite fragrant. The momo came with two sauces, one of which was spicy, and had a decently juicy filling, but two of the momo had ripped skins. It didn't do so well in delivery, so probably better in restaurant. The chicken tikka pizza was interesting, but it did not travel well at all and was kinda sad. Might be good in the restaurant, since it had a nice thin crust. My coworker recommended this restaurant as it had good reviews and was conveniently located to meet up with another coworker from our company. It's located next to a child care school in a weird intersection on Bow St in Somerville. There's paid street parking around the area but may be difficult to find especially during lunch and dinner rushes. My group and I ordered steamed Chicken Mo Mo and the Beef Chilli to share. The chicken mo mo was soooo good. Unliked Chinese XLB, there was a lot of spices and flavors in the mo mo. Delicious! The beef chilli was also really good but also incredibly spicy LOL. Tons of different spices marinated with the beef, bringing out a flavor blast in my mouth. I wanted to keep eating but the spiciness kept killing me. I ordered the lunch special Chicken Tikka Masala. It came out in a plastic take out container (all the other foods were like that too) and there was only a small portion of the tikka masala which threw me off. BUT the portion didn't matter as there was a lot of meat and the curry, omg. Very thick and sooo full of flavor. I've never had tikka masala that was this thick! Delicious! A hidden hole-in-the-wall gem that deserves a little more credit. The quality and the flavor profile of the foods were really good! Definitely would love to come back in the future. read more

I ordered from Himalayan Kitchen through the Too Good To Go app. For $5, you get a surprise bag with some of the restaurant's leftover food at the end of the day. I was really excited to try this spot, as I've passed by many times before, but never actually went in. The restaurant itself was really cute and definitely would be a nice sit down spot for a nice evening out. The staff was really nice and even offered me water, even though I was just there to pick up my surprise bag. I met Jeff, who I believe was an owner, and he was kind enough to throw in his wife's rice pudding, which was absolutely delicious. For the actual entreé, they gave me a curry (I believe lentil) with basmati rice. Considering I didn't know what I was getting, I was very happy with the outcome! They have a small dining space, there were a few people dining in when I walked in at noon to pick up, but definitely on the slower side. FYI, if you order off their website there's a small convenience fee. I got the chicken momo (steamed), chicken vindaloo, lamb vindaloo and naan. The chicken momos were tasty, good flavor - hint of curry, the spicy dipping sauce on the side provides a good kick! The vindaloos were soo good. More tangy than other places I've been to but in a good way! Lamb/chicken pieces were tender. Wish the naan was fluffier.. but all in all, a solid place. Fantastic lil spot in Union Sq! The food was on point! Everything we ate was so delicious. Menu was very varied with more traditional Himalayan/Nepalese options as well as Indian cuisine. The Chicken Momo (Jhal) is served steamed in a tangy soup-like sauce. The jhal added so much flavor and isn't too sour at all. The momos were juicy, cooked to perfection. The Tandoori Shrimp was served with some fresh veggie salad, rice, and some of the most delectable tikka masala sauce I've ever had. I could've eaten a bowlful of just the sauce and rice. The Taas set included marinated goat meat with some sides. I'm not a huge fan of goat meat generally due to the gamey taste, but this goat was really yummy. The spices and cooking style helped to mask the gaminess. There isn't a whole lot of seating inside, but it was pretty easy to get a table on Saturday evening without a reservation. We went in for the first time since the renovation and it's a great place to grab a drink and delicious food. The spicy veg momos, samosa chaat, butter chicken, paneer makhani, garlic naan, and veggie biryani = YUM. He also handled my sisters sesame allergy like a champ. The spicy momo sauce is delectable: spicy and flavorful. We had a ton of cocktails made by him as well and the Stanley, Om, Red Panda, and Dirty Lassi were fan favorites. So so good! Skip bow market and come directly to this place! Their menu boasts a diverse list of cuisines, but stick to their Himalayan dishes and curries. Their momos are SO good, especially pan fried. We had 10 chicken momos for about $10. The spicy sauce that came with it was also great. They were out of the Nepali Thali when we got there, so our waiter recommended the taas set instead. I loved it! The lamb was perfectly spicy, and the crunch of the puffed rice made it a great combo. I also loved the chilli beef. Make sure to get rice with that as the sauce is very rich. I cannot say enough glowing things about Himalayan Kitchen. 1) I have ordered takeout many times and it is always DELICIOUS. 2) The whole team just saved me! My car got stuck in ice and snow while parked on Summer St. I pulled into the spot no problem, but could not get out. I walked into Himalayan Kitchen to ask if they could give me some hot water. They gave me an entire bucket of hot water and another bucket of salt and then sent 3 members of the staff to help me. They would not even let me carry the buckets! They used hot water and salt on my tires and then gave me a push. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Himalayan Kitchen. I will be ordering from here even more often!!!! A real gem. We were in town and needed to change dinner venues. Himalayan Kitchen was an incredibly lucky find. Walking up to the door we almost changed our mind since it looked almost like a takeout place. We walked through the door and saw that they had a few tables, with one empty. We were studying the menu when Jay, the owner, came over introduce himself. We ordered the Mo Mo to share. This was when we knew the food was really interesting and delicious. And the rest of dinner didn't disappoint. We'll definitely be back. It sounds like a lot of customers order takeout, which is fine. But I'd really recommend stopping in to this family run restaurant. This food was so fabulously authentically delicious. Ordering the Goat Thaal left me with an explosion of tastes and textures and the deliciousness of the whole meal got me to finish every last bite. It was visually pleasing and palatably undeniably superb. The buffalo, sizzled and served, comes from Pennsylvania. (true water buffalo.). This place is a real gem. This place is SOO good! It might be my favorite place for Nepalese or Indian food in the area, and it has some stiff competition. Every dish is amazingly good every time I go (especially in contrast to other nearby similar restaurants who are hit-or-miss). I usually see the owner when I'm there and he's always giving good recommendations. I never thought I could love chow mein so much! Everything there is fresh and well spiced. Usually I will do take-out, but it's also a great place to eat in; their bar is fun and food comes out perfectly hot. I must say the first time I went to Himalayan Kitchen, I was a bit skeptical because their expansive menu includes some surprises like burgers and fries and chicken wingers.
