We enjoyed our meal at Singh's Dhaba. Service was slow though sincere. Setup is clean and basic (I'm not sure I'd agree it's a date spot). The food came out super quick - we ordered two entrees and 2 breads. The flavors were really good (not sure why people are saying the food was bland). We tried the malai kofta (a medium had a kick to it). And the Punjabi kadhi - it tasted good but it was thicker than I'm used to having it. Portions were good - we made 3 total meals out of 2 entrees (not per person m, total). Prices were reasonable. It delivered on what you expect it to be. This is probably my new go-to Indian spot in Cambridge! I came here with my sister for lunch and we ordered the samosa chaat, the matar paneer, and one of the lunch specials with chicken tikka masala and the saag paneer. We really loved everything! The samosa chaat was perfect and a pretty generous portion. The matar paneer was also tasty and flavorful. We kind of wished the saag paneer was a bit less watery and more flavorful, but it was still good. The lunch special is such a great deal. The staff were very nice and attentive! It took a bit longer for the matar paneer to come out, not that we particularly noticed because we were still eating all of our other food. They did give us two mango lassis on the house, which was so kind! I will be back!!! read more

There aren't many top rated Indian restaurants in this area so we ordered takeout from here since it had more than four stars. Walking in right at 5pm when they open, our order of butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, naan, and pickled mango took around 12 minutes to be ready. My wife, nine-year-old daughter and I enjoyed the food. The naan comes with two per order and is very flat. The chicken tikka and the butter chicken come with white chicken and tastes great. I will say they tasted almost identical. Overall, we had a great experience here! read more

My true rating would be 2.5. I've been to this restaurant before and had a great experience, but unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to that. We ordered the Gobi Pakora, Paneer Pakora, and Kadhi Paneer. The Kadhi Paneer was solid, flavorful, with a nice level of spice, and the naan was soft and fresh. The Gobi Pakora were overly oily (there was a visible pool of oil in the tray), and the cauliflower itself tasted pretty plain , like it hadn't been spiced or seasoned much. The Paneer Pakora were slightly better, but still nothing memorable. What really stood out this time was the service, and not in a good way. When we walked in, the staff member at the front didn't acknowledge us, so we weren't sure whether to seat ourselves or wait. Throughout the meal, we had to ask for water refills, and our used plates were left on the table until we left. It wasn't particularly busy, so it felt like we were being overlooked. A small moment that stuck with me: we asked for a bag for our leftovers, and instead of bringing it over, the staff member waited until my husband came out of the bathroom and handed it to him...even though I was already sitting at the table with the containers. It's minor, but it added to the overall feeling of inattentiveness. Hoping this was just an off night, since I've had better experiences here in the past. For now, I'd give it 2.5 stars, with the Kadhi Paneer being the highlight. read more

OMG... this was just too good. We ordered the Punjabi Kadhi Pakora - which not only deserves 5-stars, it's totally life changing. Seriously. We also ordered the Malai Kofta, which was amazing, probably better than any Malai Kofta we've had outside of India. A perfect onion kulcha topped off a great, 5-star dinner. The restaurant looks pretty unassuming from the outside and would be easy to miss, but it was a great place for Indian food. The Tandoori Chicken was well cooked and the portions were fairly large. The vindaloo and curry were both delicious as well. One was creamy with a sweet hint and the other a tomato like spicy dish. I do think all the dishes were slightly catered for the American taste as the spices weren't as strong, but they still filled the Indian food craving. The dishes do come with rice but the garlic Naan was also toasty, soft and perfect for all the leftover curry/sauce. The waiters were also very efficient and prompt. They were able to give us some recommendations that turned out great. There is plenty of meter parking in the area as well. Was craving a good Sunday lunch thali - unfortunately singh's didn't hit. Lunch special thali choose 2/3 entrees, a naan, rice. Firstly, the app plate I was given had some specks on it, our server recognized it at least and gave me a new one. Went with chicken tikka and palak paneer. Disappointing chicken tikka in a classically too creamy, not terribly flavorful gravy. Perfectly cubed white meat chicken that was a little too chewy and put me off. Was lacking sadly :( read more

First time ordering delivery and very impressed! As a desi person I'm a big critic of Indian food and the butter chicken was fantastic, the meat was cut into thin strips and were juicy, not like chunks of white breast meat which I don't prefer. The sauce had a spicy kick without me needing to request it so points for that and a nice consistency with layers of flavors. The garlic naan is a must, very fluffy and fresh tasting and I was very impressed by the aloo paratha it had an authentic flavor and the potatoes were seasoned well. We also got the tandoori chicken with bone and it came with an impressive salad bed which is exactly what you need to pair with it and a hearty slice of lemon. For their takeout experience, I feel like this restaurant is pretty standard for the area. The prices are very high (most entrees are over $20) but the portions and quality do make up for it. We ordered one order of garlic naan, lamb coconut korma, and kadhai paneer based on other reviews. The naan was fresh and soft - my only complaint is that I wish there were more pieces per serving! The lamb coconut korma was absolutely delicious and flavorful. The meat was cooked perfectly and the curry had the perfect balance of flavors. The kadhai paneer was super flavorful as well but was unfortunately way too spicy for me. I feel like I have a decent spice tolerance but this was a lot for my palate. I've been hearing praises of Singh's Dhaba for a while now so was glad to finally try it. We got to try a variety of dishes and I enjoyed all of them. Also, their spicy is actually quite spicy. The saag shrimp was great! The shrimp were big, plump, and tender. The saag was also good. I also really liked the bhindi -- it wasn't too oily and was tasty with great texture. And I loved the malayabi paratha -- perfectly layered and buttery. The chicken kadhai sauce was very good but the chicken was not very tender. The malai kofta had tender dumplings in a creamy sauce and the dal makhani was good as well. I would definitely come back! The restaurant that occupied this location previously, also South Asian, was lacking: one menu option for dining in that was a bland and flaccid chickpea and chicken combo served in a styrofoam container. It's unclear whether the ownership of Singh's Dhaba is the same. If it is, they have really stepped up their game. If it is not, glory to us all. [FOOD] Singh's Dhaba has a plump menu. I've sampled a number of items: lamb kormas and chicken kebabs and goat achari. The pakora: never has something fried melted so readily in my mouth, fused so adhesively to me tongue, and slide down so slickly through my gullet. A dish that is so simple, made so delicious. The lunch special is also wondrous: choose two or choose three entree options and a massive thali of goodies you shall be given. [PRICE] The costs are reasonable in general. The price of the lunch special in particular is, in a word, breathtaking. Perhaps I have simply not been at maximal gluttony, but the thali has consistently served me for two (2) meals. [SERVICE & ATMOSPHERE] The service is good. I generally could care less about atmosphere (the food is what actually matters, sorry), but I will say it is pleasant. You could go on a date here and it would be fine. I don't think pets are allowed, so no dogs and definitely no ferrets. But ferrets should not appear in public as a categorical rule. I took out Chicken Kadhai. There was no soup available. I was expecting really good after I read good reviews here. But food didn't even taste like Indian food. Very watery and chicken was very dry. Didn't even taste any typical Indian spices. It was like, cooked by someone has never made Indian dish before or really rushed making Kadhai. I was very disappointed. THIS RESTURANT DESERVES A HALF-STAR RATING. We walked in on a Wednesday night at 9pm. Only 2 other customers at restaurant. Ordered shrimp. They were "out of it". Ordered Goat. They were "out of it". Settled for chicken and lamb curry dishes and biryani. Decent dishes but as an Indian, nothing to get excited about. 10pm - mid-dinner, waitress comes to our table to let us know they close at 10pm. Brings us the check which we promptly pay assuming we could still finish the meal. 10:10pm - waitress tells us they are closed and we need to leave. So begrudgingly, we did...mid-meal...and as we get up, she asks whether we would like anything packed! If they didn't want to serve customers because they wanted to close promptly at 10pm, they should not seat anyone after 9pm and we would understand. But to seat customers and then ask to leave is abhorrent. For a place that only has 2 tables occupied out of 15, you would think they would treat those customers with a lot more appreciation. This place is amazing. I got the Malai Kofta, it was much lighter than others I'd had before (a good thing), and had a very complex palate, not just spicy. Its sauce was so good I took what I had remaining home. My only small complaint was that I only got 3 pieces, but the other aspects of the meal more than made up for it. The rice is extremely fragrant and I could just eat it by itself and be happy, probably. And speaking of which, when we asked for extra rice to go they gave it to us for free, which was very pleasantly surprising in an area where usually everything extra has a fee attached to it. Naan came out very hot and there was plenty to bring home. And although there were a lot of carry out orders coming through, there's just enough space and it's just decorated enough to make for a very satisfying dining experience.
