The naan here is AMAZING! I just moved to the neighborhood and I'm so happy to have found this gem. It's a small and cozy spot. The family that runs it is very welcoming and kind. The recipes are so delicious and I can't wait to try the rest of the menu! The garlic cheese naan was some of the best naan I've ever had. They make it in a real tandoor which is how it is supposed to be made. The Punjabi wings were good. I think next time I'll try a different flavor because I prefer a spicier wing. The Chana masala was fantastic! The chickpeas were soft and the flavor was authentic. I highly recommend trying this place out if you're in the area!!

My order: Newari Samay Baji The Review: I just had to come back to give my review on the Newari set. The dish has a small taste of many different dishes all on one plate, plus a bit of rice and a bara lentil pancake. Every bite was full of flavor. This could serve one person and easily be shared with one person, accompanied by one other dish. Great place, highly recommend a try.

Once again forgot to photograph the food.... but it was all delicious! We were surprise by how great their pizza was! Fantastic crust. Not a ton of seating, but the owner is so hospitable and happy to call when something opens. Or we ordered pick up and had our dog and he set a table and chairs for us outside and brought us drinks and our dog water.

A hidden gem in Somerville serving quality food. With less than 10 tables, this place was packed on a Friday night. It's cozy inside and they do have a small bar as well but I didn't see anyone sitting there. There were even people waiting outside for over half an hour just to be seated. Luckily we got there just in time and were able to snag a table without waiting. We started with mango lassi's to drink. They were refreshing but heavy, so I got water too. Since it was our first time, we decided to split a few appetizers. We started with the spicy chicken momos which were delicious, and also got the garlic cheese naan. The naan was so flavorful and fresh. I got the Chicken Makhani which was a butter chicken that came with rice. It had lots of flavor and was a good portion. My boyfriend got the Goat Biryani which he enjoyed a lot. We both got full quickly so had to take leftovers home but we weren't mad about this since the food was so delicious. They also served the food in take out containers so all we needed to do was ask for lids...smart on their end. Service was fast and we didn't wait long for the food. I will say that because there's limited tables, I felt like I was being rushed out towards the end, so they could seat another party. They kept coming over to ask if we needed anything. I understand this since it was busy, however it felt a little unpleasant. Nonetheless I still had a great experience overall and would come back. Side note, a lot of people were ordering the pizza which looked good so I'd like to try that next time.

I've been ordering takeout from Himalayan Kitchen for 5 years now. It's always nice to chat with Jay, the owner, he likes getting to know his customers which is a rarity with small restaurants these days. The staff is always friendly too. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The menu is authentic Nepalese dishes, but there's also an American /American Fusion section like pizzas, , wraps, wings, ribs. The restaurant was recently renovated in the past 2 years and is a great spot for date a night or small group and serves alcohol. Something I recently learned is that their meats are Kosher.

The Chicken Tiki Masala was rich and savory. I loved it. The chicken was cooked perfectly and paired well with the sauce and garlic naan. I also ordered the chicken Pakora which was thin, crispy, and delicious. I would definitely order again. Everything tasted very authentic and I highly recommend this spot to who ever likes Himalayan food. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but what do you expect when food is being made to perfection. Please try this spot!! You wont be disappointed.

Stopped by for a late lunch with our son who has just moved to Somerville. We were not disappointed. The menu is a mix of Indian and Himalayan (Nepali). We got a nice mix to try. Loved the flavors. The mo mo (dumplings) were the most meat packed dumplings we've ever had. The chatamari were so unique--a rice flour pancake bursting with spices and topped with an egg! We also shared the Nepali thali and the Newari Samay Baji. That gave us a taste of lots of Himalayan food. The chicken on the Thali dish was to die for. Topped it off with some fresh garlic naan. The husband of the chef was super friendly.

A great spot to get a quick, filling meal. We ordered the chicken momos, peshwari naan, and chicken palak for two people, which was more than enough. The space isn't huge, but it's cozy. Service is friendly and quick. They changed the process so now it's just waiter service. I would definitely come back again and try more of the menu.

Yum! Ordered delivery and everything was great. We got the chicken momos, samosa chaat, veggie chow mein and a loot pizza. Super fair prices, and it was ready in a jiffy. The samosa chaat was a first for me, and it definitely won't be the last time I'll be ordering it. The chow mein looks plain, but actually tasted great. The momos are also good, though best when eaten hot so might need some reheating if you're taking it home. The pizza was good, didn't quite taste the masala sauce but the dough was super nice and chewy! Very glad to say we've found a new go-to spot in the neighborhood.

Samosa chaat was good Garlic naan was crispy and fluffy at the same time. Good amount of garlic Paneer tikka masala came out nice and hot. Enjoyed this for dinner and lunch the next day

A solid place for great food! The workers are very friendly and the owner loves to chat with customers. This is a pretty small restaurant but cozy and nice for a casual meal. The food was great- I loved the naan and thought it was the perfect amount of food

I've never eaten Himalayan food before and saw this on the map so decided to give it a try. Food: - We loved the food!Excused my incorrect spelling of the dishes, I'm actually going off my memory.. Chili, pork Chamatari, veggies, eggs & meat - bean soup came w/this, it was delicious especially eating it with the nann Choymi - beef Garlic naan Rice pudding Service: It was pretty good. The Co-Owner came and spoke to us as well. He said that his wife is one of the main cooks. - the other staff was nice but a bit quiet and shy. Atmosphere: it was a bit too small for us and no AC (I felt bad for my family... Luckily they didn't ask to leave...) - the staff asked another party of 2 to switch seats to give our party of 5 the largest table. It was very nice of all of them. Definitely recommend this place.

My family and I moved to Massachusetts more than a decade ago, and one of the things we've loved most about living in Mass. is the opportunity to meet people from so many cultures -- and to enjoy incredible foods from all around the world. One of our absolute favorites is "The Himalayan Kitchen" in Somerville. We recently visited on a Sunday evening, and it was easy to see why the restaurant was buzzing with neighborhood regulars. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. Whether you choose to dine inside, enjoy their outdoor seating, or pick up takeout, the service is warm, attentive, and so kind. And then, of course, there's the food -- which is simply AMAZING. If you've ever been curious about the cuisine of Nepal, this is the perfect place to start. The staff thoughtfully guided us through the menu and helped us choose non-spicy options so we could fully enjoy the flavors without heat overwhelming the dishes. We tried the chicken madras, momo (Nepalese dumplings), garlic naan, and ended with creamy rice pudding -- every bite was wonderful. If you're in Somerville, or even just spending the day in Boston, do yourself a favor and make the short trip to "The Himalayan Kitchen." It's more than just a meal -- it's a warm and flavorful journey to Nepal, right here in Massachusetts. Every bite at "The Himalayan Kitchen" is a taste of Nepal and a reminder of the beauty of cultural diversity in Massachusetts.

This is due partly to another party ahead of us not leaving promptly, but I think the restaurant could have been ready ahead of us as well. I will admit that I enjoyed the ambiance - it had nice low lighting with contemporary decor which made a nice dinner spot. The service in terms of both the waiters and kitchen did not feel timely either. It took a while for drinks to arrive and there were barely any water refills in general. We ordered four different dishes on our side of the table and they were somewhat bland. The vegetable momos definitely need some kind of sauce since they were lacking in flavor. We also got a curry chicken thigh, beef noodles, and butter tofu. I think only the beef noodles had a good enough flavor profile and kick to them. I was also surprised that the portion sizes weren't close to what you would expect for the price. I think with so many good south Asian spots in the area, it's hard to recommend Martsa. I might consider coming back if I learn that there is a particular dish that I am missing out on.

The restaurant was comfy; there was an electric fireplace on the wall which made the room feel homey. We got fried pork momos, which were delicious and juicy. I was interested in trying the C-style, but we had a non-spice eater at the table. I got the pork chili from the appetizer menu and garlic naan for my meal, and my companions got the chow mein and sekuwa. The chow mein looked standard and sekewa was grilled chicken served with puffed rice (looked like rice krispies). Everyone was happy with their meals, but I especially loved mine. There were slices of pork belly in a flavorful sauce with tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers. Note that the pork belly still has the skin on it (which I personally love). My only complaint was at medium, the food seemed mild, but I'll be clearer of my spice preferences next time. I would definitely come back specifically for the pork chili!

The dipping sauce was good as well, possibly a mint-like flavor. The pork momos were really good too, with nice crimping on the skin and decent fillings inside. The chicken vindaloo was decent, though I might have liked more specificity to the flavoring of the vindaloo. The potatoes were nicely textured. The chicken bites were a bit large, they could have been chopped up a bit. The gorkhali khasi (a goat curry) was fairly decent with tender nice pieces. The flavoring was oversalted and again could have used a tad more definition. The bone-in aspect was appreciated as it held the flavor of the meat. The bhindi masala (okra) was fairly successful with a solid infusion of flavor into the okra. The dish was overall too oily though and some steps need to be taken to minimize the oil. All in all quite enjoyable!
