Such a fun and trendy restaurant in Chelsea. I was in town visiting my dad for our birthdays. We were seated along a banquette table. The tables are close together, but it's ok because the music allows for private conversations. We had a couple appetizers: cod fritters, and the roti. The roti came with a white sauce that was to die for. Then for dinner, he had the oxtail gratin and I had the signature peri peri chicken. The chicken was probably the best I've ever had. It's was ridiculously tender. Grape cheesecake was for dessert. Sounds strange but it was delicious. Would 100% recommend.

Note: Review is for Restaurant Week. Recommendations: Salt Cod Fritters, Peri Peri, Dorade, Duck Fat Frites, and Ice Cream I went with a group last week to this popular new restaurant for their Summer Restaurant Week, which they recently extended to August 30th. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the interesting menu, which has some European and Caribbean influences. The inside space was warm with nice plating, though I found it a bit loud. Like many of the other nicer spots, it's three courses for $60 outside of tax and tip, of course, but instead of having supplements, they have add-ons/side dishes to go along with the main dishes. Overall, I liked the food, though I would steer towards certain dishes instead. My appetizer choice was the Tuna Crudo with cantaloupe, aji charapita, and tostones. The tostones, or rather a "tostón," as there was one, was on top of a pretty-looking bowl with a bright orange sauce that included a handful of tuna, some cantaloupe, a few pieces of avocado, and some microgreens. I wish there were more tuna, but the flavor was nice, with a little heat and a mildly creamy, citrusy taste with a bit of sweetness from the cantaloupe. The tostón had an interesting texture, as it wasn't fried too much, so it had a bit of softness, and it was nice to dip into the sauce. Overall, outside of the lack of tuna, it was good, and I think it would work better texturally if the tuna was in bigger chunks/slices. Another person ordered their signature Salt Cod Fritters with scotch bonnet aioli. She liked the fritters a lot but found the aioli quite spicy, which wasn't surprising to me. I tried a bit of the aioli, which was indeed spicy, but not too much for me, though I do have a very high spice tolerance. Another person ordered the remaining appetizer choice, the Bibb Salad with sour cream & onion and everything crumble, which she enjoyed. My main dish of choice was their signature Peri Peri Chicken with green goddess and chicken jus. The dish has a gorgeous presentation, with interlacing sauces and additional small ramekins of each sauce on this side. The latter was much appreciated, as I like adding more peri peri, while another person who got the same dish liked adding the latter. The chicken was juicy with a crispy exterior, which had a little kick to it. The peri peri had a good amount of heat, which was balanced by the creamy and herbal green goddess. The jus on the bottom was less notable, but still tasty. This was excellent and probably my second favorite peri peri I've had, next to the more traditional version from the Portuguese spot Leitao. If I had to make a complaint, I think a side salad or similar would go well, but it seems the dish on the regular menu has something extra. I got a side of Crispy Rice for $8, which was fine. It had some crisp and a small bit of another type of grain for extra texture. Much better were their excellent Duck Fat Frites for $14, which came with another type of aioli. The fries were large but still crispy on the outside, reminding me of a better version of typical steak fries. A couple of the other people liked the Pan-Roasted Dorade with plantain, Swiss chard, and chermoula, while no one got the vegetarian option, the Corn Orzo with Oaxaca cheese, salsa macha, and jalapeño. For dessert, I got the alright Peach Cheesecake with oat cookie crust and Sauternes. I liked the crust, and the cheesecake wasn't overly sweet, with a decent side sauce, presumably made from said peach and Sauternes, that had a mild sweetness. Otherwise, the peach flavor was pretty mild, and I was personally surprised that there wasn't a slice of peach or something similar on the slice. A couple of others loved the comparatively smaller Coconut Mango Swirl Ice Cream with pineapple, so I maybe would recommend that instead. At least for Restaurant Week, I really enjoyed this spot. I'm not sure if I would pay full price based on the portions compared to the main menu, but we had a good time here.

After going through the big glass doors, we were welcomed by a cacophony of noises from the patrons and the music. It sounded like a lot of people were having a good time! We sat at the bar. I got a tamarindo, which could've used a bit more of a kick. I won't say that about the food though as it was all heavily spiced and on the saltier side. First we started off with the tomato salad, which consisted of baby tomatoes sliced in half over what tasted like hummus doused with chili oil with 2 fried crackers. Would've been nice to have more crackers or bread for the spicy dip as it was weird to eat alone. And if it was meant to be eaten with the tomatoes then the proportion of tomatoes to the dip was way off. We got the oxtail gratin which was on the saltier and spicier side which made it hard to finish without something but the thin layer of polenta to soak up the sauce. The scallop curry was good but the amount of curry was disproportional to the 2 scallops sliced in half and 2 potatoes that were in it. So we left a lot of curry sauce behind. The peri peri chicken was very tender and delicious and came with a very small side of raw cabbage salad. Overall glad we tried it since it's been on my list but do agree portion size was small for the cost as well as for the spice that needed more things to soak it up.

Salt Cod Fritters

It was busy on a Wednesday. My table got the salt cod fritters, they were so good and salty. I loved the little bites and I loved the scotch bonnet aioli. So good, we ordered two of them. And then I got a bibb salad. I was a little cautious when the menu said sour cream but it's very light. The salad was delicious. I loved the touch of mint in it. The bathrooms were so nice and smelled good too. When exiting the right door was broken. There is a sign that said left door. But we still struggled to open it at first. This place was really nice. I personally think it was a bit overpriced but I guess for Manhattan it's average? Idk. Would I come again? Possibly but not on my dime.

Went during restaurant week with a reservation. The service was great. Everyone was professional and attentive. The food was also great it had lots of amazing flavors. Thr oysters were fresh and juicy. The chicken was juicy but perfectly charred and the sauces were delicious. The cocktails were also great. After dessert we were told about the cocktail lounge downstairs which we were walked down to and a reservation was made.

This place was so perfect for a girl's night out! It's so close to NY Penn station so for anyone coming from NJ you can get back to NJ transit easily! The place is dimly lit and music is playing- not too loud to make it hard for you to hear but just enough that you can still have a vibe. Service is quick and our server was very attentive and provided great insight on the menu especially for me as someone with food allergies. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks! Everything was a 10/10 and I can't wait to return! I attended during restaurant week so there was a special for 3 courses.

BRAISED OXTAIL GRATIN Spring pea orzo

I celebrated my anniversary here and had such a lovely time that I booked a reservations for a week later to enjoy with friends. The interior is moody, chic, and tasteful. Our server (wish I remembered her name) was very sweet and recommended some good dishes. One being the spring pea orzo which was insanely good! All of our food was very tasty but I will say the scallop dish portion was very stingy. Regardless, I enjoyed my visits here. But seriously, please do better with the scallop portion, there was more potato than scallop.

We came here to celebrate my niece's birthday. I arrived a little early and grabbed a seat at the bar. The mezcal cocktail was excellent, although it took a while to reach me. We didn't have a reservation, but the friendly host somehow managed to find us a table, which was greatly appreciated. The service throughout the evening was attentive, and the food was flavorful, though a bit heavier than my personal preference. The ambiance struck a nice balance between elegant and casual, and the seating was very comfortable, making for an enjoyable dining experience overall.

Where to start? We found space at the bar and were treated to the artesian works of the bartender. Every cocktail we had was well balanced and well adorned. They were all so darn pretty. The bartender was well versed in the menu offerings and pretty much curated our experience. We even got to meet the Executive Chef who was warm and generous with her time. The codfish fritters, the lamb & roti and the oxtail were the standouts but everything was really good. OMG!! Wait- that Hamachi Crudo!? Yummmmm.... The menu is small but filled with why they do well. The mains could be considered heavy so be sure to curate your meal accordingly. I have to get back to try a few more dishes - and I'm truly looking forward to it. The cheesecake and the Burnt Honey & Apple desserts completed our meal. That cheesecake was my personal favorite

Let's get the obvious out of the way first: Yes, Markette is overpriced, overhyped and over-exposed. It's definitely having its 15 min of fame in the influencer-sphere, so plan accordingly if you want a resy--and don't be surprised to see clientele dressed to the nines with tripods and ring lights. I knew this going in and expected to dislike my wallet-depleting dinner, much as I've disliked 90% of the overhyped NYC restaurants I've been to recently. But, I actually....enjoyed?....myself. Everything we got was tasty and not as teeny-tiny portioned as I expected. The Roasted Sunchokes were delicious and covered in a lovely, savory, foamy sauce that made me want to lick the plate. Our Rock Shrimp Linguine was the only dud--a bit too sour even for me, and not enough precious, precious rock shrimp to satisfy my crustacean craving. But the tender Braised Oxtail Gratin helped, with its savory crispy polenta. The Pan-Seared Dorade was well-cooked, and uniquely complemented by sweet plantains, swiss chard and chermoula. Surprisingly--and not surprisingly--the star of our table was the insanely photogenic, Instagrammable Peri Peri Chicken. It was as juicy as it was colorful, and its gorgeous buttermilk ranch sauce should be served as a smoothie, it's so good. Service was pretty friendly, and the decor was as modern, chic and trendy as any episode of "And Just Like That". Come with at least a group of four to get past the high price points--$5 for a cup of hot jasmine tea...in a tea bag....--and you'll do all right.

Markette - SPRING PEA ORZO - creamy orzo with peas, feta and jalapeño slivers

I tried for a "last minute" walk-in seat and was initially disappointed. They were booked solid this beautiful Friday evening. I mentioned, I needed to leave quickly, because of an early curtain. The hostess relented. She mentioned that she needed the seat at 6:00. I told her, no problem, as long as the kitchen was amenable. I found out later that the kitchen doesn't start until 5:15, so my order was "first in" from the very clever bar attendant. The remarkable appetizer, Pea Orzo with Feta arrived shortly thereafter and it was glorious. The orzo was cooked risotto style with the peas. A spunky feta danced on top. Crunchy jalapeños slivers added a kick to each mouthful. The main dish took longe to arrive. I dashed over to the host stand and asked if she wanted me to cancel the entree. Another host ran back to the kitchen and she told me she'd "make it work." With a smiling, "I found your entree!" I thoroughly enjoyed the Curry Sea Scallops. It was served in three dishes, the scallops and cut red potatoes in a deep dish of great coconut curry. A dish of brown rice was waiting for the drenching. A jicama type slaw was there for the cooling antidote. I greatly appreciated their squeezing me in and then allowing me to stay beyond my promised departure. This was a crew that solved a problem. Next time, I promise to make a reservation!

BRAISED OXTAIL GRATIN

Once I saw the oxtail meal being showcased on Eater , I knew I had to come and try it for myself. Coming all the way from South Florida, I knew my New York trip had to include this stop. The ambiance is dark but warming and a bigger space than I thought. From the prawns to the oxtail , these are staples that will keep me coming back on my next visit. The oxtail was so fresh, so tender, and just melts in your mouth. The prawn was seasoned and cooked to perfection!! The peri peri chicken definitely reminded me of Nandos. Everything was 10/10 . Literally can't wait to come back

Bibb salad
Janelle T.

Great ambience! Food tasted amazingly. My favorite dish was the lamb and roti. The Bibb salad was so fresh. I just wish there were more options on the menu. I think a rice and peas dish would have been great. And I was yearning for some more vegetable options. There's also a lovely cocktail lounge downstairs that has a speakeasy vibe. Definitely recommend for a nice dinner out with great vibes!

The unmarked entrance and doorbell immediately set the tone, and once inside it feels like you stepped out of Manhattan and into a dark, old New York cocktail lounge. The velvet seating, curtains, low lighting, and little private nooks make the whole place feel intimate without being gimmicky. That atmosphere is very much intentional. The Chelsea location is the original Raines Law Room and is built around that hidden speakeasy experience. The cocktails were beautifully presented, and I liked that this felt like a place where you could actually sit with friends and have a conversation rather than compete with loud music. We also ordered some meat, cheese, olives, and crackers for the table, which was perfect alongside the drinks without turning the night into a full dinner. What stood out most to me was how cohesive everything felt. The drinks, glassware, lighting, service style, and decor all fit the same mood. It feels refined and special without trying too hard. Pay special attention to the bathroom wall art. Definitely not an inexpensive night out, but for a true New York cocktail bar experience, I thought Raines Law Room was absolutely worth visiting. Patent Pending is has such cool speakeasy vibes, think dimmed lighting and candles at each table in a very intimate space.
