Let me just say we have been waiting to give this place a try and what better time than restaurant week! We walked in and were greeted and seated by the wonderful hostess. Our waitress took our drink orders , gave us a few tips on what to order and we were not disappointed. We started with the Salt Cod Fritters, omg so delicious. Every bite was just packed with flavor . For our main dishes we did the Peri Peri Chicken, Corn Orzo & Pan-Seared Dorado. Every single dish was phenomenal, from the presentation, flavors and fresh ingredients. We loved every bite ! To end our amazing dinner we had the Peach Cheesecake & Mango Coconut ice cream. After going through the big glass doors, we were welcomed by a cacophony of noises from the patrons and the music. It sounded like a lot of people were having a good time! We sat at the bar. I got a tamarindo, which could've used a bit more of a kick. I won't say that about the food though as it was all heavily spiced and on the saltier side. First we started off with the tomato salad, which consisted of baby tomatoes sliced in half over what tasted like hummus doused with chili oil with 2 fried crackers. Would've been nice to have more crackers or bread for the spicy dip as it was weird to eat alone. And if it was meant to be eaten with the tomatoes then the proportion of tomatoes to the dip was way off. We got the oxtail gratin which was on the saltier and spicier side which made it hard to finish without something but the thin layer of polenta to soak up the sauce. The scallop curry was good but the amount of curry was disproportional to the 2 scallops sliced in half and 2 potatoes that were in it. So we left a lot of curry sauce behind. The peri peri chicken was very tender and delicious and came with a very small side of raw cabbage salad. Overall glad we tried it since it's been on my list but do agree portion size was small for the cost as well as for the spice that needed more things to soak it up. read more

Came for dinner during the week. We had a reservation and they seated us fairly promptly. The space itself is modern and nicely decorated with a full bar and high ceilings albeit it is loud. The tables are a bit close together (there is one 4 person high top in the back corner next to the bar that is away from the main seating area, if you want your own space, I would try to request that table). The service was polite and friendly. The food came out at a decent pace, we had plenty of time between courses (since we were hungry, I would have preferred a little less time, but this is the proper timing for a nice meal). As a group of two, we ordered the grilled prawn, braised oxtail gratin, peri peri chicken and lamb roti and we were quite full at the end. My favorite was the lamb, but the oxtail was a close second. First the starters, the grilled prawn was a single large prawn served over a creamy sauce with chili garlic crisps. It was a little spicy and I liked the flavor, but the crisps were too garlicky for my liking and overpowered the dish. The prawn was cooked nicely and while it was a large prawn, it comes sliced and is only 5-6 bites total (2-3 bites per person). A bit small on the portion for the price ($32). The oxtail gratin was very good simply because the oxtail itself was divine. It had so much flavor and a nice soft texture without disintegrating. The crispy cheddar polenta was pleasant, but I could have eaten the oxtail by itself. Would definitely recommend they use the oxtail to make a taco (maybe with the roti?) or even an empanada. It is so good! For the entrees, I agree with other reviewers that the peri peri chicken isn't terribly exciting in flavor or texture. However, we ordered the lamb roti and used the sauce from that on the chicken and then it was excellent! The chicken comes with a single fried chicken nugget on the side over a cabbage/slaw and while the nugget was good, I found the salad unnecessary and rather flavorless. It would be better if the salad/slaw was pickled or had some acid/vinegar to pair with the chicken. The lamb roti was the star of the meal. A big lamb shank served over fava bean sauce. Clearly there were other ingredients in that sauce, because I have never experienced flavor like that just from fava beans. The sauce was so good, we were eating it with a spoon when we ran out of roti. Speaking of roti, it was perfect, soft inside, flaky outside. They serve two with the lamb and while it is enough, three would have been better. The lamb was tender and fell off the bone. This dish was honestly perfect and it should be considering it costs $53. Overall, a nice meal but definitely expensive. The menu is rather small, so I don't feel obligated to return to try the other items as I feel we got a pretty sense of the food. It was busy on a Wednesday. My table got the salt cod fritters, they were so good and salty. I loved the little bites and I loved the scotch bonnet aioli. So good, we ordered two of them. And then I got a bibb salad. I was a little cautious when the menu said sour cream but it's very light. The salad was delicious. I loved the touch of mint in it. The bathrooms were so nice and smelled good too. When exiting the right door was broken. There is a sign that said left door. But we still struggled to open it at first. This place was really nice. Honestly super mid. All of the food looked great coming out but lacked depth and flavor. Got three entrees, the dorade, peri peri chicken and the scallops. Each had something unique in the Caribbean flavor but it wasn't deep or well constructed enough to warrant the price of the dishes. I tried for a "last minute" walk-in seat and was initially disappointed. They were booked solid this beautiful Friday evening. I mentioned, I needed to leave quickly, because of an early curtain. The hostess relented. She mentioned that she needed the seat at 6:00. I told her, no problem, as long as the kitchen was amenable. I found out later that the kitchen doesn't start until 5:15, so my order was "first in" from the very clever bar attendant. The remarkable appetizer, Pea Orzo with Feta arrived shortly thereafter and it was glorious. The orzo was cooked risotto style with the peas. A spunky feta danced on top. Crunchy jalapeños slivers added a kick to each mouthful. The main dish took longe to arrive. I dashed over to the host stand and asked if she wanted me to cancel the entree. Another host ran back to the kitchen and she told me she'd "make it work." With a smiling, "I found your entree!" I thoroughly enjoyed the Curry Sea Scallops. It was served in three dishes, the scallops and cut red potatoes in a deep dish of great coconut curry. A dish of brown rice was waiting for the drenching. A jicama type slaw was there for the cooling antidote. I greatly appreciated their squeezing me in and then allowing me to stay beyond my promised departure. This was a crew that solved a problem. Let's get the obvious out of the way first: Yes, Markette is overpriced, overhyped and over-exposed. It's definitely having its 15 min of fame in the influencer-sphere, so plan accordingly if you want a resy--and don't be surprised to see clientele dressed to the nines with tripods and ring lights. I knew this going in and expected to dislike my wallet-depleting dinner, much as I've disliked 90% of the overhyped NYC restaurants I've been to recently. But, I actually....enjoyed?....myself. Everything we got was tasty and not as teeny-tiny portioned as I expected. The Roasted Sunchokes were delicious and covered in a lovely, savory, foamy sauce that made me want to lick the plate. Our Rock Shrimp Linguine was the only dud--a bit too sour even for me, and not enough precious, precious rock shrimp to satisfy my crustacean craving. But the tender Braised Oxtail Gratin helped, with its savory crispy polenta. The Pan-Seared Dorade was well-cooked, and uniquely complemented by sweet plantains, swiss chard and chermoula. Surprisingly--and not surprisingly--the star of our table was the insanely photogenic, Instagrammable Peri Peri Chicken. It was as juicy as it was colorful, and its gorgeous buttermilk ranch sauce should be served as a smoothie, it's so good. Service was pretty friendly, and the decor was as modern, chic and trendy as any episode of "And Just Like That". Come with at least a group of four to get past the high price points--$5 for a cup of hot jasmine tea...in a tea bag....--and you'll do all right. read more

What a wonderful dining experience. We were very early for a 5:45 reservation. As we waited for the doors to open , a small line was forming. Kind of surprising for a restaurant in Chelsea to be so busy at 5pm so we knew this was a buzzy spot. The interiors and the bathrooms are beautifully decorated. The music is not loud so we were able to carry on a conversation which seems to becoming quite difficult dining out these days. We ordered the salt cod fritters, braised oxtail gratin, the roasted sunchokes, peri-peri chicken and the blood orange cheesecake all to share. I thought the food was out of this world. So tasty, loved all the flavors. I did think the cheesecake wasn't all that sweet and the drinks were good but I prefer a different type of drink. I had ordered the lucky plum, then something that had vodka and oear. I don't say this often but I would come back. I was super lucky to book a 4pp reservation on Resy at Markette for my birthday back in early February, and thankful that I did. We were greeted at the host stand and sat at the bar until the remaining members of our party arrived. At the bar, service was seamless and accommodating - as they transferred my welcome cocktail the SUNKEN STRAWBERRY to my tables' final bill. We informed the host via Resy that our entire party would be participating in Restaurant Week for my birthday. The MOD sent our table complimentary SALT COD FRITTERS with SCOTCH BONNET AIOLI - superb. I am West Indian, so clearly they are after my own heart. We started with a round of drinks: - HAY BARBIE: a mezcal sour with beets and saffron that was well balanced. - SOL Y PLAYA: clarified sotol margarita with mastiha and tomato that was the perfect amount of sweet and savory. - I HAVE A MARTINI KINK: a boozy martini with vodka AND pisco - whew! We ordered our three-courses, where everyone got a different variation of options: my three courses were: - BIBB SALAD: very refreshing and citrus forward. - ROASTED POTATO CURRY: came "tagine" style with coconut rice and a small papaya salad on the side. EXTREMELY TASTY. - STRACCIATELLA ICE CREAM: perfect portion, not too milky. Espresso pour on the side was a nice touch. We also ordered a bottle or rosé champagne, and the Sommelier was well versed on their options and what paired well with our dinner. They even let us bring our own mini cupcakes with candles to celebrate the occasion! Icing on the cake: they invited us downstairs to their speakeasy called The Argyle! The venue is rather large- long bar with beautiful wrap around banquet seating in the dining space for easy-to-accommodate group seating. There has been a lot of talk about Markette recently and the reviews have been nothing short of glowing. Coupled with the fact that it is an woman/POC owned establishment, I really wanted to support and see what Markette was about. I was already behind the 8 ball as reservations were going fast, so I decided to come right at opening on a weekday for bar seating. This was the move. Markette is well designed - lots of green and deep orange tones that complimented each other, and a lovely floral mural on the background. Staff was extremely kind and hardworking. To start off the evening I got a lucky plum, a gin-based cocktail - not too sweet, refreshing and easy to drink. This was already a fantastic start to the meal. For my appetizer, I got the hamachi crudo. I thought the tamarind sauce was a phenomenal addition on what is normally a citrus-based sauce. I enjoyed every single bite. On to the main dish - seared scallops. The presentation was lovely, and I actually liked that the rice was on the side. That way I could experience each component separately, and choose to combine them as I pleased. Transcendent is probably the word that comes to mind when I ate the scallop. The subsequent bites were even better when I combined the rice with the curry sauce. At this point, I was sold on whatever Markette was selling, so I got myself a Ceast and desist cocktail and the Birdee's Burnt Honey Cake to end thee evening (apparently it was the last day to have it). Both 10/10s. All this to say, I'm so glad Markette is here and I hope it's here to stay. I cannot wait for my next dining experience here. read more

I made reservations to see if Markette was worth the hype. NOW, I'm a believer. Here's how I will describe it: have you ever looked down at your plate and felt sad, wondering where your food went? That was my reaction to everything I ate at Markette. I shed a tear because the food is that DAMN good, I loved every bite of everything I ordered but was sad it all disappeared so quickly. I have to return with my family, so I can order more and get to sample more things. This restaurant definitely has a fantastic, fully equipped staff. From the moment I walked in, I witnessed a well oiled machine running smoothly. I have to credit everyone doing a great job of keeping things afloat. The bartenders (both upstairs and downstairs) busboys, waiters, sous-chef, host, Chef India Doris and etc. I am very observant, and I noticed the kitchen door swing open several times, revealing many people working hard. Came here to experience this new food hot spot. We made reservations a couple of months back as we knew, based off the menu options alone, this restaurant would become very popular in a short time. We arrived a little early for our reservations. We were greeted by a pleasant older gentleman and was informed our reservation time would be honored as there was a party currently occupying our table, but would finished at our assigned time. We were in no rush and proceeded to the downstairs area to their bar called "The Argyle" to have a pre- dinner drink. The Argyle Bar was decorated in dark wood and cushioned chairs accompanied by minimal lighting. The ambiance was moody and perfect for a date night or a meetup with friends. We ordered a ranch water and a shot of whiskey to sip until our table was ready upstairs. The wait staff were pleasant and attentive; when our table was ready they got our drinks and delivered them to the table for us. The restaurant is rather small and intimate; you are seated in close proximity to other guests which makes ear hustling easy! We were greeted by the manager and we inquired about drinks to start off our meal. He was very attentive and asked about our preferences and suggested a couple of drinks for us: The Blue Jean Baby, which was Irish whisky- based, and The Morning Fog, which included vodka. The drinks were exceptional. They weren't overly sweet, the base of the drinks were hand crafted and did NOT come out of a premade bottle. The alcohol was noticeable and each enhanced the drinks we got. We even ordered another Morning Fog! The waiter came and we placed our order: salt cod fritters, braised oxtail gratin, grilled prawn, with a side of duck fat fries and broccolini. We received our order in a timely manner. The salt cod fritters took me back to my grandma's kitchen and her cod fish cakes: hearty, loaded with fresh cod fried perfectly and accompanied by a remoulade-type sauce that was a great pairing. The only difference between Markette's and my grandma's?: There's were round in shape and my grandma's was shaped a little flatter. These were EXCEPTIONAL! The braised oxtail gratin was good as well: savory oxtail shredded and served over polenta, which was smooth and tasty. The grilled prawn was as long as my hand and perfectly grilled with a side of chili crisp which elevated that grilled prawn to another level. The duck fat fries were nice and crisp with a light dusting of salt and the broccolini was served with a coating of cheese which made these a perfect side to our dishes. To be honest, we couldn't finish our food and decided to take it back to the hotel. The staff thought there was something wrong, but OH NO....we simply wanted to enjoy the rest of our meal in the comfort of our hotel room like we REALLY needed to...(IYKYK). Needless to say, Markette was an AMAZING experience and we suggest, if you are going to NYC and have some time, make a reservation and experience this wonderful restaurant. read more

Met a friend visiting from Chicago here for dinner, and from the moment I walked in, I knew this was going to be a good night. The decor hits exactly the right notes -- chic, warm, fun, and classy all at once without trying too hard. Burnt orange banquettes, candlelight, hand-painted murals. The room has personality. Service was top notch and genuinely attentive without being in your face about it. That balance is harder to pull off than people think, and they nail it. I got my usual Ketel One slightly dirty martini and it was made perfectly. Whoever is behind that bar knows what they're doing. Then the food. We shared duck fat french fries (yes, obviously, always), sticky rice, grilled prawn with bouillabaisse and chili crisp, and the peri peri chicken with buttermilk ranch and a celery root and caraflex cabbage slaw. Every single dish was outstanding -- the flavors, the combinations, the execution. The prawn especially was one of those bites where you stop mid-conversation and just look at each other. The peri peri chicken has real heat and the slaw cuts through it perfectly. It all just works. Worth noting: Chef India Doris was just named the Michelin Young Chef of the Year for the Northeast. First reservation in NY - dined in on May 23rd, 2026 at 7 PM. Almost didn't order the grilled prawn, but I'm very glad we did! It was my favorite part of the meal and that dish was absolutely cleared. The sauce reminded me of butter chicken and the lemon was so juicy, the perfect splash of acidity to the prawn. Hamachi crudo was unique tasting with the green mango, tamarind, and curry oil. The peri peri chicken was very moist, most of the flavor is coming from the buttermilk ranch and peri peri sauce though, so I like that they included sauce on the side! I also loved the chicken nugget that came with the dish more than peri peri chicken itself. Hope they do chicken nuggets with their ranch and peri peri sauce as an appetizer some day. Braised oxtail gratin was a wee bit spicy and tingly, but well seasoned. The crispy cheddar polenta and onions were my favorite part of that dish. Blood orange cheesecake was good as well, just a wee bit pricey based on the size of the slice. Will be ordering two grilled prawns the next time I'm here :) Service - all the staff were very patient and courteous, we were seated at the bar and I would say this is more spacious than most of the tables in the dining area. The staff are really busy here so I appreciate them taking the time to check in with us when clearing our plates. A few patrons walked in without reservations and were disgruntled with the bar seating, but the staff were super professional and patient about it. One of the best meals and dining experiences I've had in a long time. Service is 10 out of 10. Everyone seems so genuinely helpful and happy to be there. LOL. My waiter Jamie was amazing. He had great recommendations and after dinner he took my downstairs to see The Argyle, a cocktail bar in the basement with a completely different drink and food menu that I will have to come back to soon. As for the food, everything I had was amazing, like lick the plate amazing. There's something about the sauces. Jamie saw how I was trying to get every bite so he brought me a spoon. Markette delivered vibes, flavor, and energy all in one night. From the moment we walked in, the staff set the tone welcoming, upbeat, and genuinely happy to be there, which is rare and refreshing. The whole place felt alive. Between the Friday night buzz, great weather, and a crowd that actually looked like they were enjoying themselves, it was a full experience. We grabbed seats at the bar, which fits about 10 people comfortably, and it gave us a great view of the interior design and the bartenders in action. Service was smooth, friendly, and attentive all night. Food was dangerous. The sauces alone deserve their own review. We started with the salt cod fritters with habanero aioli. It comes with four fritters, small golf ball size, and they were very tasty. That sauce is one of the ones I wanted to take home. If you're not careful, those can fill you up, especially if you've been drinking, so pace yourself. We also had the tuna crudo, which was light, fresh, and flavorful. We split it, but next time I could easily have that to myself. It's on the smaller side but still shareable. That was another sauce I wanted to pack up, along with the one on the fish. For mains, I ordered the braised oxtail gratin. It's very unique and not your traditional Caribbean or Jamaican style, and it does have a noticeable spicy kick. I enjoyed it, but just know it's a different interpretation. The pan seared dorade was a standout and I agree with others that it's one of the top dishes on the menu. Light, flavorful, and really well executed. They also offer non alcoholic drinks that looked very well thought out based on the ingredients alone, so that's worth exploring too. Best move is to share dishes so you can experience more of the menu. After dinner, the chef let us know there's a lounge downstairs, so we stayed for another round. The lounge felt like a whole different world. Spacious, stylish, great seating, strong drinks, and once again staff that actually enjoys interacting with people. Even the guy whose date ditched him. He was annoyed at just about anyone who walked by because of that, sitting there processing life, but the staff handled it like pros. Only minor note: bathroom maintenance could use a little more attention. Full trash plus a slightly confusing flush situation. Such an enjoyable experience! I caught a resy right as they went viral and decided to meet a friend there. The ambiance is cozy but not overwhelming romantic, low lighting, reasonable volume. We started off with drinks and moved on to the fritters and flat bread. I think the fritters may have been my favorite item of the night. The oxtail gratin was also a solid dish. I wasn't super crazy about the scallops (a lot of textures together and I wasn't fond of it) but the accompanying dishes were excellent. The staff were attentive, kind, and helpful with suggestions. From service to drinks to food to dessert. We didn't want to leave but the seating was a bit uncomfortably tight . We got there as soon as they opened and were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, by the time we were leaving whew it gets pretty crammed so keep that in mind Nonetheless it's all worth it. Everything we had was delicious . Those fritters wow I would eat that every day of my life and the prawnnnsss packed with soo much flavorrr!! My fish was incredible crispy yet soft and the sauce it sits on made it all the better. The oxtail was a surprise for me. I've never ever had it served that way it was pleasant. I just wish the dish was deeper. It was a shallow but wide portion. If it didn't have all that cheese I would have ordered another but can only take that much lactose . The peri peri chicken is amazing. Nice depth of spice that is so enjoyable! The drinks were great. The bartender made some custom drinks for us and we were in Heaven! The prawn and the artichoke were really good. The oxtail and peri peri chicken were okay. The service was so so. The server taking the order was friendly. However, the person bringing out the dishes and setting the table kept interrupting our conversation. Every time we wanted to start talking about it something, he would come over and do something so we had a hard time having a conversation. Then when we were done and wanted to pay the check, then he never came back. It was a little darker inside and some other patrons shone their phone lights to read the menus, so that was annoying since the lights were basically shining in my eyes. read more

Accidentally booked a table at the bar but I must say I couldn't have been more comfortable with the seats, decor and space I had. Service was prompt, efficient and really good as well. Coming to the food, here's what we ordered - Cod Fritters (3.75/5): these were airy, well filled and a decent two-biter. Comes with four pieces and a mayo based sauce with a kick to it. Have it hot or it will lose its charm. - Grilled Prawn (5/5): my favorite item on the table. Extremely well cooked prawn that's portioned for you to ease the overall dining experience. The sauce it came with was unctuous, spicy and topped with a beautiful medley of crunchy bits and toasted seeds. Would get this again! - Peri Peri Chicken (3.5/5): well cooked chicken. Not seasoned much or at all and heavily relied on the sauces to add flavor. I made my own shawarma bites with the pita which was fun but being a Nandos fan and the call-back with "peri peri" in the name, it's really not in the same ball-park. A friend and I stopped into Markette after hearing and reading great reviews. We were seated right away and had an earlier reservation, so the restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived. We kept it low key for drinks, with a red wine, but they have a few different looking cocktails if you're up for it. Foodwise we went with the Sunchokes, Salt cod fritters, Oxtail gratin, Peri Peri chicken, and a side of fries. Overall, we felt rather underwhelmed by the food. I was hoping for more balanced flavor, but the spices and sauces were extremely overpowering. We also felt the chicken was a tad dry and the oxtail was oversalted. Service was good. Our waitress was friendly and stopped over to check in on us periodically. Ambiance is OK too. Nothing overly unique, but it's cozy and dimly lit. Since we were earlier, it wasn't too crowded, so the noise was lower. It did pick up a bit as we left, so I imagine it's bustling if you come in later. We were also told we had 90 minutes to eat. Fortunately the wait staff didn't rush us out, but the food was poorly paced so we were over an our in before our last dish arrived. If you're going to enforce a 90 min rule, then the food needs to come out more timely to allow guests to eat slowly. Overall, my friend and I were not huge fans of Markette. We paid over 100 each for 1 drink, 4 items and fries. Though the staff and ambiance were nice, the high price point for food that didn't satisfy left me not wanting to return. read more
