Great Italian spot--their pizzas and pastas are freshly made to order and it's clear in the taste. We ordered the shrimp & calamari arrabiata and two pizzas, the salami and margherita. You can tell all their ingredients are real. The cheese and sauce and dough. The inside isn't that big but can seat a good amount of people. It's very neat and lovely inside and the staff is very friendly and attentive, refilling waters and clearing plates although I had to tell two different people not to clear the pasta plate bc I was using the sauce as a dip for my pizza crust. Very delicious. As soon as it was 5, people started filing in so if you want to try this place, I'd recommend coming when they open but I think some people eat quickly and leave if they're not gathered for an occasion. Came here on a Saturday night around 6:30pm. Glad we made reservations because the place was packed even when we arrived around 615p. There is a lot underneath the restaurant which they don't validate and on that night, it was cash only (weird, I know) for the parking machine at the gate to get out from that parking. Also street parking and there seems to be a free lot on Mentor and Cordova according to the server. We were shown our table at the back of the restaurant next to their wine rack. It's a very impressive collection for those who like wines. We ordered: Appetizers - Octopus and the beet salad. Very fresh ingredients and you can taste the freshness. Entrees: Rabbit Bolognese - the sauce is really fresh and savory but I really can't tell it's rabbit. Pasta Carbonara - very rich sauce and the meat is a little bit salty. The pasta dishes were good but there are other places with better pasta. That being said... we loved the pasta dishes in this order.... Carbonara, Seafood Linguini then Tagliatelle rabbit bolognese. This is our second time ordering the pork chop... yes, it is that good. Tried the liver this time & loved it. Cooked perfectly... tender & not chewy. The desserts were a nice ending to our dinner. We were pretty hungry by the time we arrived at the restaurant, and decided on the tagliatelle & rabbit Bolognese. The pasta was fresh, chewy and has the right texture. We were a little too full to order desserts or try other dishes but we will definitely be back to try other items on the menu in the future. The wine was delicious also! We recently had dinner at Marina for the first time with friends. The food was excellent; 3 of us had Rigatoni allá Norma, it was delicious with lots of flavor. We also ordered a bottle of Ceraso, Italian red wine, which was very good. Service was excellent our waiter was attentive and serviced us very well. The staff was incredibly attentive and kind. Our waitress had great recommendations. We got the pork chop and tortellini and the flavors were fantastic. Reservations are a must as the restaurant filled up. Now onto the main subject. We enjoyed every single dish. For appy, Compressed Watermelon was a pleasant surprise. The watermelon was sweet & refreshing and paired unexpectedly well with ricotta. Octopus was a big piece, and it was tender & well flavored. I had Seafood Linguine, tasty with a good number of shrimps. It was supposed to come with sea bass, but I did not see any. Hubby tried Tagliatelle Rabbit Bolognese. It was delicious & Hubby thought that the rabbit tasted like Italian sausage, a compliment. We couldn't end dinner without dessert. Despite the limited options (3 only), they were great. This is an OK Italian spot in Pasadena. It's a cozy size and is the same owner as Republik so the coffee here is great! I've been a couple times, once on a date and once alone at the bar. The ambience is nice and the servers were friendly. The suggested wine options were always good. The bar area is small but can get lively on the weekends. Here's what I've tried: Fried Calamari & Artichokes: I wish the calamari came by itself. The artichokes were very salty Prosciutto San Daniele: A good simple shareable dish with barrata cheese. If they had a a softer bread option, I'd be even more excited about it. Toasted Sourdough is rough on the mouth lol Carbonara: Solid but the egg is poached. A hit Every. Single. Time. This was the first time trying the octopus and I do have to say im going to have to get it next time as well. It was perfectly grilled and seasoned well and whatever sauce that was under it worked beautifully. I'm pretty sure the ingredients they use are locally sourced because you can just tell from the quality and vibrancy of the colors they were grown with love! I was highly anticipating a stunning dinner for girls night, but, unfortunately we left a bit disappointed and cold. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with little hints of Italian costal elegance and a open face kitchen and bar. You can see jars full of lemon lined around the back wall. We came in for our Saturday night reservation and it was packed. I checked in 10 mins before our resy, but I let the hostess know that the remaining 3 would be here in 10-15 minutes because they were looking for parking. However, when they arrived the hostess had notified me they had given away our indoor table to another party and our only option was to sit outside or wait an additional 20-30 minutes... we opted for outside cause it was already a late dinner. Unfortunately they don't have heat lamps yet... There were things we did enjoy and things we could've gone without. But because we sat outside everything was cold so fast, made the dinner unenjoyable. The meatballs were cold, the octopus was already cold, so we were more cold. The duck prosciutto looked disappointing, I've seen photos on Yelp where you get these beautiful thick slices, but ours was just tiny slivers... On top of that the bucanti pasta came undercooked. The waiter had to clarify as if we didn't know between Al Dente vs undercooked, if all four of us acknowledged the noodle is crunchy ... it's undercooked. I've personally cooked bucanti, I know it takes forever to cook because of its thickness, it was underdone. And what's worse, they didn't even offer to take it off the bill. They offered if we wanted one Togo, but we all passed. Onto the good... LOVED the rabbit bolognese, it was tender rich and paired lovely with a thicker noodle like a tagliatelle. The pizza was also a showstopper, the crust was thin and had a lovely chew and the toppings of the salty salami with the sweet honey and bit of heat was perfection. The peach dessert that our waiter recommended was a beautiful presentation and wasn't too sweet. Our waiter was kind and personable, but a bit flustered. We had ordered a wine bottle, but took a while for him to bring it out. We already received all our apps and pizza, before the wine even arrived. Margherita pizza was tasty, and we got 2 pastas, the mushroom linguine and the seafood linguini. Both were very good. Absolutely loved my dining experience at Marina! It's a relatively new spot on Lake Ave. I came here for dinner with my parents and friends. Because we were a party of 7, I made a reservation ahead of time. Usually you make a reservation on OpenTable, but for bigger parties, you have to call the restaurant. We were seated right we came in, and the restaurant was accomadating for a few of my friends that were delayed. This spot offers wonderful modern Italian cuisine. We started off with appetizers and drinks. We got the Fried Calamari and Artichoke and Burrata and Beets. Both were delightfully savory, and they gave us extra bread when I asked since we were a bigger party, so I appreicated that. For drinks, we got a few Melones, a Marina Spritz, and a Napolitano. Almost all of the cocktails are Soju based; as such, they were sweeter and more enjoyable, especially the Melone. For the main dishes, we all got either pastas or pizzas. This is as if we just sat down instead of accommodating us for their mistake once the bill arrive, they charge us for the dishes that we did not order along with ours. I would say it's leaning towards a bit salty but not too overpowering. I usually prefer tomato based pastas but I really enjoyed the carbonara since it wasn't too creamy and cheesy. The rabbit bolognese pasta was a bit thick and close but not Al dente, but flavor was great and the rabbit was not gamey at all. In regards to parking, I read reviews there was validation but the waiter said there were some issues with the plaza management and the restaurant no longer validate. It ended up being $10 for parking underground for 1.5-2 hours of dining. There were plenty of free street parking on a Sunday evening so I should've parked on the streets instead. So the combination of the nectarine, arugula, cheese, and dressing was very tasty. We then moved onto the blistered bread and hummus. That was also very good and worth trying. The bread comes out like a giant ball, but it is filled with hot air so when you cut or tear into it, it falls down to be kind of like a flatbread. The hummus that accompanies it is done very well. We then shared an Italian sausage pizza that had shishito peppers in it. That was a nice unique twist that we enjoyed very much. We then had to pastas; a seafood linguine, and a mushroom linguine. We selected Marina for our holiday monthly Mom's Night Out dinner. The ambiance was exquisite and festive. We felt very welcomed like entering a family home. They were busy so I was impressed to see even the owner running around and fully supporting his staff. He sat brought us to our table and even shared a beautiful rose as we toasted to the evening. Service: It wasn't long after we sat down that the our server came to introduce herself. She was so sweet and friendly, gave us so many recommendations. The staff was attentive, immediately clearing the table and getting us ready for the next course. Food: We shared everything family style in small bites so to try as many dishes as we all could. Best idea!! Mushroom Appetizer - delicious! Fresh from the farmer's market and selected by the owner. Mussels - the broth was lite and flavorful. Carbonara - classic pasta dish. Not heavy but still lots of flavor and hearty. Lamb - moist and tender. Not gamy. Was a favorite even to those that don't normally like lamb! I'll start by saying I got it to go so take that with a grain of salt. The restaurant is fancy and the ambiance could possibly make it a bit better, but I'd probably still have concerns. I'll review each item we got: Blistered Bread & Ricotta: Bread tasted like stale pita bread and the ricotta tasted like mascarpone. Not too bad, just not what I was expecting at all. Fried Calamari & Artichokes: The Calamari wasn't bad, but was soggy. I really liked the artichokes but there was literally two small pieces. It looked like when they accidentally give you a couple onion rings in your fries at Burger King Lamb Ragu: The Ragu was good and the pasta was cooked perfectly, just incredibly stingy on the Ragu. I wanted at least 3 times the amount of sauce. Mushroom Linguini: This was a bland, sloppy mess. The most disappointing of the four items. When we ordered I thought we got way too much food, but the portions were so small that it was just enough. The food wasn't bad, but didn't even come close to warranting the price. For $100 I expected much larger portions or much better food. read more
