Almost forgot how much I enjoy this little place! Food was delicious and staff was friendly. I love how cute and casual the feel is. The pastries look amazing and the ones I've tried have never disappointed. I ordered a chicken shawarma bowl and my husband had the steak bowl with rice. The portions are huge and we had enough for leftovers!

Review for take out only! You guys. If you're looking for excellent quality and consistently great food, this is your spot! I dont love Mediterranean but decided to pick up to go weeks ago and am so so glad I did!! I've picked up almost weekly since I crave it - we love the chicken shawarma, hummus (the pita chips are insane, so good!) the honey chicken sandwich and za'atar fries. The food is really exceptional packed with lots of flavor! Easy to order online for pick up too and they wrap everything so nicely! I love love this spot!!! Glad to support!!!

Marcel is the best place to go for breakfast/ brunch/ lunch in the Montclair area. The Cappuccinos are amazing, and you can't go wrong with ordering anything on the menu. I've tried the shakshuka and the challah French toast, and both experiences were unreal. The staff is very welcoming and accommodating. 10/10 experience.

Great place! It was my second time here and my friend and I really enjoyed the food. Service was quick. It wasn't very crowded in the morning and there was plenty of space. I had the mushroom and feta omelette which was delicious. Loved the pita that came with it!

Called in my dinner order of chicken Shawarma plate. I wanted extra onions. No problem, it'll be ready in 20 minutes. My food was ready when I arrived. I had to grab pita chips and hummus. My Shawarma was salty. I've eaten here before and this was a first. My next visit, I'm getting my go to salad and Chicken Schnitzel. Paid street parking Small dining area.

This cute bakery/restaurant had delicious breakfast/lunch food! The fries were crispy and paired with a great sauce. The chicken shawarma pita was also packed with flavor but I felt that there wasn't a good balance of chicken and pickles/veggies. The chicken was packed at the top but and the rest was packed at the bottom so you're not rly able to get a good bite of the mix. I would definitely go back and try other things. I heard great things about the French toast. I also got the focaccia to go and it had great texture and savory flavor. The people serving were also so kind!

Delicious restaurant in the heart of upper montclair. I love their Israeli breakfast. I've also wanted to try the shashuka but I like the Israeli breakfast so much that I normally get that. Fresh ingredients. Nice staff. Give this place a try!

So I just stopped in tonight and realized that I never posted from my first visit! I love it at Marcel! It's inviting, delicious and reliable!! Tonight, I ordered the curried tofu over rice. AMAZING. So much so that I missed taking the picture, haha. I will DEFINITELY be returning time and time again!

We have visited Marcel for a Sunday Brunch. We are impressed with friendly, super convenient service, and a DELICIOUS Food. Everything we had was top notch. Definitely a place to make it a routine brunch outing for us. Well done!

so delicious! the bread and baked goods are always so fresh and flavorful Especially the shakshuka focaccia (personal favorite) highly recommend coming for any meal of the day.

This place is added to my Montclair brunch/lunch list. The shakshuka mish mish was just as good as I remember from Mish Mish. Subtly spicy, robustly flavorful tomato sauce with flourishes of addicting za'atar. A fresh, tender pita comes with it. I wish the poached eggs were a bit less done but overall my meal was solid. The downside is the size of the place and its popularity. There's only 5-6 tables inside and 4 outside, which left me waiting for 30 minutes. The drill is: order at the register and then sit. They'll call your name and walk your order over. I recommend grabbing a paper menu from up front bc it's not displayed anywhere. Seasonal specials are on the chalkboard behind the doors that open to the place. To avoid paying for parking drive 1 block away from the train station. Stop at Vesta for some chocolate and pick up some cheese at Van Hook on your way out.

It's been a while since I've made a Yelp review. I'm happy this review of Marcel's Bakery & Kitchen is my first in quite some time. First, I've driven by this gem of a place a thousand times and had no idea what I was missing. I decided to meet up with a friend at a local spot in Montclair. Naturally, I suggested Starbucks but she suggested and preferred Marcel's. I had no objection. I love to try new places, especially in Montclair. I arrived on time at a non-peak time - 4:30ish. Immediately I looked around and took in their ambiance. It was extremely clean, and bright yet had a cozy and warm feel to it. (Perhaps it was the delish-looking pastries that gave it that warm touch) I glanced over to my right as soon as I walked in, to their grab-and-go options. There were plenty of incredibly healthy options to choose from. (I was so happy to see that). However, I couldn't make a decision. I wanted to taste everything!! (It didn't help that I was famished. I opted for their special - Chicken Schnitzel in the best darn warm pita I've ever had, and a side of field greens w/a hint of lemon dressing (it was perfect). It's been a few years since I've ordered a Dirty Chai Latte and this was just what I needed. The gorgeous design was a sweet touch. My Friend had mint hot tea which smelled so delightful. We decided to sit outside since the fan was cooling us a bit much and we needed to warm up some. I spotted a book nook upon leaving and it brought a smile to my face. (I love books) I'm thinking of going back this weekend to donate the poetry book I just launched, to Marcel's, so they can add it to their collection of books on the shelves. They have a nice amount of seating outside. The evening was perfect to sit and enjoy the sunset and chat away. Customers sitting alongside us were friendly and the aroma of the food they ordered smelled incredible!!! My friend and I stayed until just about closing. The owner was super polite, waved goodbye, and bid us a great rest of our night. The employees were courteous and did not rush us out and offered us to stay longer until they were ready to bring the chairs in. I can't wait to go back and try the other items on the menu. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for healthy or vegan options, kind and courteous service, and no pressure place to just sit, relax and enjoy some quality catch up time with friends. 5 for me!

I enjoyed it so much that I decided to return yesterday. This time, I went alone. I was excited to go back, until the moment I walked in and was immediately asked whether I had a reservation. I said no. I was one person, and there were plenty of empty tables. Despite that, I was placed in a freezing corner by the door. It was uncomfortable and honestly unwelcoming. Nowhere on your website does it say "reservations only," yet that's exactly how I was treated. I felt so uncomfortable that I chose to leave without even placing an order. I walked in ready to spend money and enjoy a meal, and instead I walked out feeling dismissed. You lost a paying customer. What makes this worse is that I later told the same friend I originally went with, and she shared that when she calls ahead for a party of two, they simply tell her to come in because there are plenty of seats and that reservations aren't even required. So clearly, reservations are not the issue. That makes the way I was treated feel intentional and different. As a Palestinian who spends a lot of time in Paterson, I'm very familiar with Middle Eastern restaurants and pricing. Lentil soup is a staple on our menus. I know what a reasonable price looks like. For example, Kral Pide in Paterson charges $7. Charging $15 for lentil soup is excessive. It's not just high, it's outrageous. I'm extremely disappointed. I came back because I genuinely liked this place. Instead, I left feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone, nor will I be bringing friends or family to this establishment again.

But although I found the restaurant to be cozy and my server to be friendly, the food though freshly prepared was just average at best. Let me explain. So, after perusing the menu, I saw a few Mediterranean staples, such as, baba-ghanoush, lentil soup, and a beef Shawarma entrée. So I decided to order all three of those items. Now, let me tell you not only was I excited to taste the food here, but I truly wanted to experience what a majority of people on yelp said about this place and its food. But I soon discovered that you truly cannot trust other peoples opinions when it comes to food. You just literally have to try it yourself to see if it even resembles that cuisines standard benchmarks. Well anyway, let me get to what I thought about the food. The lentil soup it's pretty tasty, but it would serve lukewarm. The baba-ghanoush was also tasty, but the pita bread was stale and void of any flavor. And as for the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, it was literally chopped up cubes of beef! Nothing near to what a standard Shawarma entrée should resemble, or let alone taste like! To be quite honest, I was so disenchanted with the Shawarma entrée that I asked my server to take it away and just give me the bill. I was ready to go! But my server genuinely saw my disappointment with this so-called Beef Shawarma that she pleaded with me to try another entrée. So I asked her to recommend another entrée to me. And she recommended the Skewered Chicken entrée. So, I caved in and went ahead and ordered this Skewered Chicken entrée. But I should've just went with my gut feeling and just should have paid the bill and left. I say this because it took forever for them to prepare this Skewered Chicken entrée and I mean forever! And this is on a Tuesday night with only two other people inside the restaurant, so literally this place was empty! (Not sure if the Cook made me wait for this dish out of spite for me sending back the first entree but that is my suspicion). Anyway, I got my server's attention and she told me if I could wait a few more minutes because they were plating my dish and that it will be out shortly. And that literally took another 10 minutes. To say that I was eager to get out of this place would be an understatement. I was standing up literally putting on my jacket when the dish finally reached my table. My server asked me kindly to return to my seat and to try her recommended entrée. So I gave her the benefit of the doubt and I did so. The Skewered Chicken entrée was a little better than the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, but really nothing to write home about. What a letdown! I really wanted to give this restaurant one star, but my server really showed genuine concern about my dining experience. And I truly appreciated that. And so as for my take on Le Souk of Montclair NJ. I would caution spending your hard earned money at this restaurant. The food is mediocre at best and there are a lot of better options in the Montclair area for Mediterranean food.
