My Manhattan clam chowder was pretty good with not much clams. Had jambalaya and the chicken breast was at the bottom tasted like it was boiled it had basically no flavor. I couldn't eat it. I asked the waitress if there was any sauce that would work and she suggested...wait for it...ketchup! I know she was just trying to help and she was a pleasant waitress but the thought of it did make me almost gag. I'm Italian so maybe that contributes. The clam casino was better. While traveling in the area for business, stopped by for lunch. I had the Oyster Stew & Fried Oysters. Both were very good. The stew had great flavor and a good amount of oysters. The fried oysters were just as good. The breading is light and flavorful without overpowering the oyster flavor. The only downside to my visit was my server was a bit on the slow side. I had to ask for refills on my drink and she acted as if me being there was a burden to her day. Otherwise it was a good stop. read more

The rating for this restaurant is criminally underrated, and I have no idea why. The wait staff is super friendly and attentive. The crab pirogies were one of the best sides I've ever eaten. If you like crab, just get the full appetizer. It's definitely worth it. The seating was comfortable, and the restaurant was overall welcoming. I've been to New Jersey about two dozen times, and this meal is a top 3 for me. The food is not cheap, but the portions are huge. I eat a lot, and I couldn't finish my salmon. The first few times we came to marblehead the service was great, the food was even better and the atmosphere was perfect. Tonight was much different. Walked in, the place was almost empty. I could hear what sounded like cartoons but didn't know where it was coming from. As soon as the hostess took us into the dining room you knew exactly where the cartoons were coming from, a family at a table was letting their kid watch an ipad on full blast in a restaurant! As they tried to seat us near the family I declined the table an asked to be as far away as possible. When the manager came over at the end of our meal I asked her why they wouldn't require headphones for entertainment in the dining room. She replied, "well we have to be careful not to get 1 star reviews". How about you politely ask the obnoxious patrons to use headphones so you keep your considerate patrons. I doubt we will be returning to marblehead. I don't want to hear cartoons on full blast while I'm trying to enjoy a nice dinner out. The menu has also been shortened and the servers did not seem as happy to be there as on previous visits.I think management is failing to keep anyone happy here. read more

Great food! As food prices continue to climb, I love that there are many delicious items on the menu that are under $20!! Staff is courteous and friendly. Ate here yesterday for the first time. Huge restaurant with a pretty big menu. For a place called the "chowder house" I found the chowder wasn't great, it was fine. Didn't seem like freshly made, seemed more like a canned product. The chopped salad was worth the extra charge as a side, it was delicious. The baked potato was sort of sad. The blacked monkfish (they called it something else) was fine (literally just fine) but the pepper relish again seemed like a canned product. My daughter had fried shrimp and they looked good, I didn't try them. The glass of wine came in a tiny tiny glass. They should change that, it's more fun to drink out of a nice glass. All in all I'd probably eat there again and order differently. Probably that chopped salad again -- and some oysters. The staff was great. read more

The good, the bad and the ugly. My sister and I went last night for my belated birthday celebration. Overall, it was an enjoyable evening but I'm not sure that I would go back. The inside is very pretty and calming. The booths are TIGHT. I know that I'm chonky but they seemed ridiculously tight. On to the food, we started off with the crab dip. I have nothing bad to say here. It was delicious!! Even the crostini with it was delicious. My sister said she loved her wedge salad too. The rolls were forgettable. On the hard side. If I'm having carbs, I am going to need better tasting rolls. Our entrees were disappointing. My sister had the salmon en croute and said that there was hardly any salmon in it. I had the Fisherman's Feast so I was able to sample their crabcake, fried shrimp, scallops and haddock. All breaded. I have no idea how but there just wasn't much taste or seasoning to anything. It was odd. The best thing was the baked potato!! Even my coleslaw had no taste. Nothing was bad, just no flavor and I'm not sure why. The breading on the shrimp was just weird. Very thick, almost bready. If that is their famous crab cakes then we have a problem. Next, the waiter, who was really great btw, gave us this adorable treasure box with candy in it with the dessert menus. I told him that made up for the meal. Super cute. We then shared the peanut butter silk pie. Soooooo good! Overall, I'm glad I went because it's new and had been on my list, but I'm not sure I would be back.....even for that yummy crab dip. read more

Attended a birthday celebration at this restaurant. Ordered the crab cake (broiled). I was very disappointed in the portion size of the crab cake. The crab cake was so small and thin. It looked like they took a spoonful of crab mixture, pressed it down and served it. I probably won't be back. For this to be a seafood restaurant, those of us who had seafood was very disappointed. So we went back to the chowder house tonight for dinner...it has improved a lot ...the food was much better ...service was much better but slow for a Saturday night at round 8 pm...waitress was very nice...everyone liked their food ...parking lot was full so very busy ...I was happy to see the food quality improved... One negative...clean the windows and if you are going to offer a JUMBO ship cocktail...please make sure the shrimp are actually jumbo and not just large ... We will more than likely be going back...glad cause I had written this place off... Keep at it ...getting better... read more

Gotta give this place 5 stars. Staff has an excellent attitude. Seated immediately as we made a reservation on line. Waiter was very considerate. Food fresh and plentiful. What's not to love about this place. They have so many great seafood options and everything is customizable. My family already agreed we need to come back to try other things on the menu. The waitress was so sweet and accommodating. The delicious firecracker shrimp had a General Tsos flavor with a spicy kick to them. Even the Caesar salad had the perfect amount of dressing. I got the Seafood au gratin which was full of large scallops, cod, and jumbo shrimp in a delicious sherry cream sauce. It was so filling that I could barely eat half of it. The sweet potato tots were the best we've ever had and I loved that they left the cinnamon on the side so you could control the sweetness. The harvest pear punch was nice and strong. The food was excellent, I personally had the fresh salmon and the service was phenomenal, our server was Justin and he did an excellent job, he was on top of everything and he knew what the heck he was doing, the fish was cooked to perfection, my cousin had the ribs, she was delighted and shocked at how big they were and how they still tasted so good, she was so happy, my mom and aunt had the chicken dishes, one was teriyaki and the other was bourbon, my dad had the cod bake and my aunts friend had the blackened tilapia, the ambience in the area near the bar was alive, it was so well put together, enough lighting, good seats and didn't feel crowded. The New England clam chowder was delicious. The steam clams were right on in garlic butter sauce. The Shrimp and broccoli linguine was right on with large shrimp. The NY Strip steak was not on. The steak cut was very thin and no flavor. I knew better not to order beef in a seafood restaurant. The service was very good. The restaurant dining area is very cramped. To many tables to close together. People were shoulder to shoulder and the windows needed to have blinds because we asked to be moved due to the sun shining in through the windows and really bad glare. The food was tasty, highlights were the seafood chowder, grilled salmon, and a whole lobster. The surprise of the meal was a side dish, I chose a wedge salad as a side and it was great. Today we visited the restaurant and we are a family of 4 and would understand sitting at the smaller table for 4 but when you are there with 2 young children it's just not the right size table. The waitress constantly put hot plates and water glasses in front of my 1 yr old and was rude when we kept moving them telling us she put more ppl at this table and never had an issue She never came back to check on us until the bill The 2 kids burgers were way over cooked that my kids both didn't eat them Overall very disappointed read more

Very disappointed. Asked for bottled water and given a small Figi water with no glass, no ice, no lemon , no straw. Dinner rolls looked and felt like thrown in warming drawer like the diners do. Entree was tenderloins with crab, red skin mashEd potatoes and asparagus. Tenderloin way overcooked and dry and I could not eat it. Mashed potatoes were the only good thing And the coleslaw was way too sweet. Warm crab dip was very good but crostini was greasy and overly toasted and the raw vegetables were a wasted effort. Our waitress was very good, however we will not be returning. I really expected a more upscale experience considering their prices, king crab legs 64.70 a pound and not prepped for easy access such as splitting them. We were a party of 11 comfortably seated near a fireplace in a cozy private nook. Our group ranged from teens to grandparents- everyone found a meal they loved- there were no complaints! Prompt service. Nice ambiance. Well stocked drink selections. Various specials to choose from. Prices are within reason for sea food which is typically higher than regular table fare. I had the scallops, it was the 2 for price selection and the misses had chicken. The meal included soup or salad, bread and a choice of sides. Very well prepared and served. We joined the Club and received $10 off on our next trip. We also were mailed some additional coupons and discounts. We will be back. read more

My husband and I just had a great meal at Marblehead Chowder House in Westampton, NJ. We started off with the lobster bisque. It was absolutely delicious. It was so rich and flavorful, literally the best I've ever had. We then ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Nachos. When it arrived at our table, we were blown away by how huge it was. Not only was it really big, it was so delicious . It was covered in lobster, shrimp, pico de gallo and cheese, and it tasted amazing. My husband and I both ordered the mushroom Swiss burgers, which came with French fries. The burgers smelled so good, but we were so full from the Lobster Bisque, and Lobster and Shrimp Nachos, we wound up having to pack up the burgers and fries to bring them home. The portions they give are not only delicious, but very generous--you will not leave hungry. Also, our server Justin was amazing. He was super attentive and was great when we asked for different suggestions. We will definitely be going back. We love the friendly atmosphere and terrific food! read more

Crab norfolk is a huge disappointment...paying $32+ for a dish that gives you a one bite-sized crab appetizer is a rip-off. Also don't waste money on their cocktails as they contain almost no alcohol. Food-wise the only redeeming aspect is the quality of their seafood. Scallops were fresh and prepared nicely. Flavors/seasoning are also okay. Nothing impressive, but I don't mind that. Hard to decide which was worse- the service or the food. I will say that they did a great job redoing the old Charlie Browns. The place looks nice (a little bit like a Red Lobster but a little nicer). The soup was good but cold. The rest of the food was terrible and it took a long time. The server was TERRIBLE. He really had no clue. He did not write anything down and came bacjk 6 times to ask what we ordered. The chalkboard brought to the table and left there is really awkward. Way over priced for very small portions of overcooked/poorly prepared food. The server said everything was prepared from scratch. Aside from the soup, I find that hard to believe. We wont be back.
