we had a great dinner tonight! it was pretty busy when we got there, but I had made a reservation, so we were seated promptly. the menu has a lot of options, and most come with a choice of two sides, so lots of decisions. I asked the server to help me choose, and she recommended the baked cod with ritz cracker crust. I remember having this type of preparation at Charlie Brown's back in the day, which was formerly in this space. we chose salads & baked potatoes as our sides, and the salads were substantial and fresh.warm rolls with butter came alongside. after a nice interval, entrees arrived piping hot and the baked potatoes were perfect. my husband got seafood au gratin which was delectable. my cod was delicious- buttery crispy topping and succulent fish. we were too full for dessert but they looked good. service was efficient and helpful, even with a busy room. read more

We've been hearing some great things about Marblehead Chowder House recently so we were excited to give it a shot. My wife made reservations for 6:45 on a Saturday night and luckily she did as the restaurant was very busy. The bar also seemed very lively. I really like what they did with the old Charlie Browns as far as renovations and redecorating. Lots of blues and whites fill the dining area (separate from the bar -- bar area seemed a bit darker with dimmer lighting) with nautical decor making it feel like you're dining down the shore. Four of us were seated at table in the middle of the floor. I would have preferred a booth but it is what it is, though the table was very small. Barely enough room for appetizers and drinks for the 4 of us. The martini & signature cocktail lists were very appealing with a great mix of staple drinks and unique options, and the prices were great. Many of the drinks between $10-$12 each. We started with a Spicy Pickle Martini (my choice - different but if you like pickles and a little heat I think you'd enjoy this), a Bourbon Peach Smash (which my wife loved and it wasn't overly sweet), a Belvedere Martini, and a Tito's and club. We appreciated being able to get a nice cocktail at a reasonable price. I also thought the menu was extensive but not overwhelming. There were options for everyone at all different price points. Like the cocktail prices, I also thought many of the food options were reasonably priced. Usually my wife and I are very aligned on our taste for food, but tonight was a little different. We split the Ultimate Appetizer Sampler which consisted of Lobster & Cheese Pierogi, Calamari, Clams Casino, and Lobster Risotto Balls. I thought the appetizers were average. If I had to pick my favorite I would have said the Lobster Risotto Balls but nothing really stuck to me that I'd want to order again. My wife on the other hand really enjoyed all of the appetizers on the sampler plate. My wife and her dad also ordered a half dozen oysters and really enjoyed them. Entree wise, I went with the Blackened Swordfish special. I thought that it was okay for the price but was slightly dry. My FIL ordered the crab cakes, a dish he really loves, and was underwhelmed. He said they were decent but couldn't compare to some of his favorites. On the other hand, my wife and MIL ordered the Shrimp with Crab Fried Rice and they LOVED it lol -- go figure. Maybe us guys are a little hard to please compared to the girls. All in all I think the prices at Marblehead match the setting and quality. Our party had mixed reviews of the food from, great to average. The service was also a little spotty. Our server was incredibly nice but it took a long time to see our server after being seated and again after being initially greeted to put in food and drink orders. I also ordered a Manhattan half way through dinner and it came out with the check. Our server apologized and advised that it would be complimentary as the wait took so long -- very nice of her and may not have been her fault. Maybe the bar was slammed. If it were up to me I wouldn't rush back for dinner (although my wife said she'd like to eat dinner here again -- so we'll eventually be back for sure) but I would love to either come back for happy hour or even spend a night at the bar for a couple cocktails. read more

My team leader chose Marblehead Chowder House for our group dinner. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and seated immediately. The restaurant has a nautical theme but not cheesy. Service was excellent, our server was Ava and she was warm, friendly and professional. For my meal I had the crab stuffed shrimp, it came with a baked potato and steamed veggies. We came here for an early dinner on a Sunday. We loved the location and atmosphere. There was plenty of parking and the restaurant was clean with a tasteful shore like decor. We loved the newspaper like menu and there were a ton of diverse options to choose from. Prices seemed fair especially after seeing the portions. The calamari was one of the most tenderest we've had. The firecracker shrimp had great flavor but the light breading was a bit soggy from the sauce. Definitely not a deal breaker though. The New England white clam/fish chowder was thick and flavorful and our Caesar salads were generous with the right amount of dressing. For dinner, our family had the garlic sautéed shrimp, pasta di mare (sub white garlic sauce), grandmas meatloaf, and lump crab and tenderloin tips. City girls had the pleasure of dining here recently on our trip to Central New Jersey. We had low expectations, but we're super excited to try some of the seafood entrées. People were singing praises about online. When you first enter the establishment, you are greeted with a classy entrance. The vibe here is very old-school but in a good way. Right off the bat we ordered the whole lobster and the crabcakes. The lobster was succulent and absolutely delicious and served with some of the best draw butter I have ever tasted in my life. I don't know what they put in that draw butter, but it literally tastes like crack, so delicious and nutty and perfect amount of savory. The crabcakes were made perfectly, chock full of lump crab meat. I love that they did not skim on that or add too much breading. I do wish that these were served with the traditional remoulade sauce but they were still phenomenal. The bread that was served to us tableside was also delicious, very airy with a crisp exterior and soft, pillowy center. We were hungry, so we also ordered the cod and this was absolutely phenomenal. A clean, beautifully cooked fillet with just the right amount of seasoning on the outside. Mashed potatoes and coleslaw as our side was absolutely on point. We also ordered sides of both white and berry sangria that did not disappoint! Our server was so sweet and very accommodating. Shout out to Jolanda give my girl a raise now!! It's been awhile since we've been here but glad to see how crowded it was on a weeknight. Tuesday is buck a shuck night. Who knew? They need to get the word out. They have a decent happy hour during the week. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't bar only. Definitely a plus! We had a lovely young lady for our server. I apologize for not remembering her name. She was new and nervous and asked a lot of questions but kept her pleasant attitude and composure. The food was absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly. Decent portion sizes. I've gone to other establishments and paid more money for less quality and quantity. When we arrived I took pics of all the specials boards at the entrance but the hostess kind of chuckled and said you don't need to do that. She was right...they bring the chalkboard to your table on a chair. And they are displayed throughout the dining area. It is overwhelming with all the specials and menus. I like having options but it takes time to go through it all if you are t a regular customer. The oysters were on the small side but fresh. We asked for the blue points. Love buck a shuck! During happy hour they have 2 for $10 appetizers if you order an entree. It's a great deal. And I don't think they adjust the size because it seemed like a lot of food for $5 each. The steamed clams were cooked perfectly and I loved the lobster risotto balls. Crunchy on the outside. I wasn't get a lot of rice like a typical arancini so risotto ball may not be the best name. Either way I want to go back for those. The dipping sauce was so flavorful. I could eat it by the spoonful. I ordered the clam bake special. Crab legs, clams, shrimp, potatoes and corn. Was in town visiting family and decided to grab an early dinner before hitting the 95. Friendly staff, they took their time explaining the specials, food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Food was warm and seasoned well. I had the shrimp and corn soup; green salad with blackened salmon. Both were very good. We didn't have drinks but there's a full bar. Huge menu with traditional type of seafood options, wedge salads, landlubber meals are offered. Since it was lobster special Monday, I couldn't resist the lower $25 price. It was steamed properly, the cole slaw was an odd combination and slaw was too mayo forward for me. Co-workers ordered scallops good, jambalaya was fair, wings good. Frozen fries and shrimp is farm raised in Asia so not a focus on quality. Recommend sticking to local seafood dishes. Service was ok, the place was busy on a Monday so that speaks to the fair prices and variety. Wouldn't make a trip to return though, too many options to try when in town for a visit. read more

There were 6 of us there on a Thursday evening for their Trivia Night. We arrived early enough to have dinner before the games started. Anna was our server and did a great job. I ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese which was very good. It was very tasty, plentiful and had many lobster chunks----mostly claw meat. My wife ordered the Caesar Salad and a bowl of French Onion Soup. As we waited to be seated we chatted up the Hostess, "Niki" (?), who was adorable, outgoing and friendly enough. However, that's as good as it got. Full Stop!!! Once we were seated our Waitress, "Riley", literally ruined our evening with her "I don't care" attitude towards the Hostess, which carried over towards us as well. Not sure if it was due to a total lack of understanding, or an inability or unwillingness to admit that she doesn't have an eye or the attention span for detail, as she got a portion of our order wrong, and then proceeded to give us a snarky attitude regarding that fact. As for the food itself... VERY lacking in flavor and WAY OVERPRICED!!! And then there's some idiotic Treasure Chest they use as their dessert menu. It is so gimmicky. Not sure if it's this generations lack of care or just plain stupidity, but one things for sure, we look forward to the next restaurant that will open once this place is gone! read more

Not sure where to begin. We were looking for a new option in the area and decided to stop by Marblehead. We made a reservation for 3:00 pm, but it wasn't necessary bc the place wasn't crowded on an early Saturday afternoon. We were seated promptly after checking in. The menu at Marblehead is extensive, but not overwhelming if you know what you are interested in. We waited about 10 mins for our waitress. Paula arrived and asked if we wanted to place our order. We were definitely ready. We asked for fried claim strips as an appetizer. I went with the garlic shrimp with a side of orange rice pilaf and the chopped salad for my entree. My partner asked for lobster bisque, side salad and 1lb of snow crab legs with mashed potatoes. For beverages, he opted for a Guinness and I tried a mixed drink (the name escapes me). We waited another 15 minutes and my partner got his Guinness. I didn't get my drink until Paula showed up with our salads, which was close to 30 minutes after being seated and we had to remind her that I never got my drink. Paula never brought the lobster bisque or claim strips. Thank God we got salads or we would have sat for close to an hour with no food. My chopped salad was nicely done. I loved the cranberries, small bits of apples and the tiny hint of mayonnaise. The ingredients were mixed really well. Now, we sat for another 20 minutes and Paula finally appeared with our entrees, but no mashed potatoes. She stated that her handwriting wasn't legible, so she forgot the side my partner ordered. He informed her and she returned with a side of mashed potatoes. Side Note: The tables around us had other waiters who seemed to be more attentive to customers. As a matter of fact, one couple arrived 30 mins after we were seated and they received their appetizers 15 mins later. Another table to the right of us had 5 people and their waiter checked on them multiple times and provided good service. So, we just figured our waitress was just off her game. Entree review: My garlic shrimp was nicely done. The shrimp were succulent and nicely cooked. The garlic sauce wasn't overbearing very tasty. My rice was just okay. My partner's crab legs looked decent. He said they were okay. His mashed potatoes were absolutely terrible. They had no flavor, taste, butter, nothing. I peeked at a table nearby and noticed another guy who ordered ribs hadn't touched his mashed potatoes either. Seems like they should be 86'd from the menu. We asked Paula for the check when she served us our entrees. I'm glad we did. She came back and said she was sorry we were in a rush. We advised that we weren't in a rush at all, but had been at the restaurant for close to 2 hours and we were ready to close out our dining experience. She offered a complimentary dessert, we declined. We were not interested in waiting another 20/30 mins for a free dessert. We paid the check and still tipped Paula over 20% in hopes that she might have just had a bad day. We all have them from time to time. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, the couple at the table nearby that arrived 30 mins after us actually left before us. They were able to wrap up their dining experience even though they arrived 30 mins before us. I can't say we will return to Marblehouse in the future. Topnecks are bigger than middle necks and I preferred the top necks. Steamed clams with white wine garlic sauce- good! Seafood chowder- very disappointing. For the name of the restaurant to be chowder house, you would think the chowder would be the main point, but it was not. It was thick (too.much corn starch?) and besides potatoes, I had no idea what seafood bits I was eating. Tasted similar to chowders that I get at a random buffet. Lobster pierogies- it was ok. 1 lb snowcrab- it was quite alot but slightly overcooked as the meat was a bit harder to slip out of the shells. Seemed like the meat shrunk as well compared to the size of the shell. Flavor is decent. Kid's fish and chips- it was fried nicely. My picky son enjoyed it for a bit. Scallop and shrimp risotto- it was decent. Place is big with a big parking lot. Has bar seating and plenty of tables. Went for my sister in law's birthday. We enjoyed calamari as an appetizer it was crispy and tender. My husband enjoyed prime rib, I had lobster, my niece had crab cakes and my sister in law had tuna with sesame seeds and crab fried rice. Stopped in while in the area and was happy to have found this place. A great menu full of choices if you love seafood and more. Passionfruit margarita was so good, I'm a margarita liver and the fresh juice was great. The crab dip appetizer was great, served with toast points and fresh veggies, definitely recommend to share. I wanted to try a new seafood restaurant but I definitely won't be back unfortunately. I originally came here to try out their scallops over risotto, my favorite meal that I try to order if a restaurant has it. Therefore, I booked a reservation here with two friends. The restaurant is a very decent size. The parking lot has decent spaces including several handicapped spaces. When walking in we received a regular greeting, nothing enthusiastic or special. We were seated in a booth in the bar area. Our waitress came over promptly and was very kind and energetic. She provided great service and checked on us frequently, as well as left a pitcher of water with us as I knew I'd be drinking a lot of water as I usually do. I ordered the scallops and shrimp over risotto as planned with a side salad. The side salad was great. The shrimp was great. The risotto was decent though not the best I've ever had. However, the scallops were the worst I have ever had in my life. Overcooked beyond help and likely old as well (my photos attached speak for themselves). They also had a very off taste, almost chemical but I can't place it. After eating my friends and I chatted a bit before leaving. It was during this time I felt my stomach gurgling and painful cramps occurring. I knew it was the scallops because I'm pretty certain they were old. Since getting home my stomach has been wrecked. It's a shame. If I had to guess, this establishment has a cook and not a proper chef. No chef would send out scallops like that. To finish my review I will add the restaurant itself was cutely decorated. They have a cute little box of "treasures" they put on the table filled with salt water taffy and mints for the table to grab from, and inside the chest was also a rolled up "map" of "sweet treasures" which consisted of their dessert menu. The prices seemed decent. However, none of this is enough to bring me back. For the prices, you can easily find a better meal at any restaurant in Princeton or Newtown with fresh food. It's a shame because choosing to serve old (and overcooked) scallops so not to waste their own money cost them what could've been a frequent returning customer. My friends and family were waiting on my verdict on whether I recommend and sadly I just do not. read more

Had dinner with my sister and brother. The food was amazing. Especially the crab egg roll, we also had the crab dip. My brother and sister had the fisherman's platter. One was fried 1 was baked. I had the crab cakes with redskin mashed potatoes, which what's so delicious. Also had the three types of beans in the baked beans. I didn't care too much for that. It didn't really taste like baked beans that you would have at a barbecue, but all in all it was an enjoyable time spent with family. The ambiance was nice and quaint. Very impressed with this seafood restaurant. They got it all right with service, menu, vibe, and the specials. The place was a former Charlie Browns steakhouse that went defunct several years ago. We visited with a party of six and started with some apps. The seafood risotto balls were excellent as was the firecracker shrimp (jumbo shrimp in a Thai chili sauce). We also got some clams on the half shell (top necks and middle necks) and both were excellent and served ice cold with real cocktail sauce (not the pre-packed stuff). The menu changes seasonally as do the daily specials which were presented on a small blackboard they place on each table. We ordered broiled lobster tails, a seafood combo over linguini in white wine sauce, surf and turf, and a broiled seafood combo. Everything comes with 2 sides (1 can be your salad). Our biggest surprise was that the salads were phenomenal. The Caesar was absolutely delicious and rival some of the best I've ever had. The chopped salad was also a winner with generous amounts of crumbled blue cheese and a delicious dressing. One salad could easily serve 3-4 people. We all will definitely be back to try more menu items and perhaps the happy hour. read more

A little disappointed in the Caesar salad, for a seafood place I was counting on anchovies, or at least an authentic dressing, it was clearly just something out of the bottle, decent size salad though. I ordered the crab cakes and while they definitely had a good deal of crab in them, they didn't have much taste and were very bland. My son got a fruit cup with his meal and the majority of the fruit was way past ripe to the point I would say it was verging on rotten. Excellent size portion of salmon, wedge salad was good, would have liked tomatoes. Love the pumpernickel bread and soups. Peanut butter pie dessert was so good. Dad liked the cheesecake, kids like the funnel cake. Kids pizza was okay, Kids fish and chips was nice sized and good. Service staff needs to be trained better on menu options/substitutions and efficiency. We got some food before our drinks arrived, no extra napkins, server took a while to do most things and get back to check on us and wasn't familiar with menu/specials.
