as i continue to come to maple ridge grocer and try something different every time, i'm going to give an overall 5-stars. this time around, they presented some new menu items and one of them were fried pickles that were a medley that also included fried okra. that was ordered along with the biscoff butter panna cotta. i'm big on fried pickles, so if a place serves them, more than likely i'm going to try them. they were so good, the tikka aioli was gold. i wanted more of it. the fried okra was a nice addition, never had them that way before. it's an appetizer that's sharable or something i can have all to myself (they were shared). the biscoff butter panna cotta was a last minute thing as we originally was going to order 2 appetizers. i love biscoff anything so add this to the list. the blueberry compote, i couldn't get enough of. the peanut butter mousse when well with the biscoff. again, i need to do better with recognizing the servers. she did a very very good job. she checked on us consistently that wasn't annoying. she also did that with others in her section so the consistency went outside of our table. as for the many times i've been here, the experiences get better and better. read more

My husband and I visited Maple Ridge on a Sunday afternoon. I had enjoyed my visit a few years ago and he hadn't yet been. Sadly, I won't be able to convince him to return. My husband ordered the roast beef and fries. The first order of the roast beef sandwich hardly had any onions but the worst part was the hair discovered on the fries. Upon the second delivery of the same meal, we discovered a SECOND hair. Listen, we've both been in the service industry so we try to have grace toward servers and kitchens. However, the worst part was that our server indicated they had just switched kitchen staff and yet this occurred on the same dish. Secondly, my husband had the view into kitchen and saw a kitchen staff member look out the window into the restaurant and roll his eyes at our table, ostensibly for returning the meal. First time is a mistake. Second time, completely different hair thickness - felt intentional. Food is your typical brunch and diner fare. A perfectly quaint dinner spot with creative menu options for adventurous eaters, and tried and true classics for those who like to stick to the basics. We had the chicken fried quail and blackberry ravioli featured entrees paired with the chocolate walnut old fashioned and Thai time mule respectively. The food was fantastic and the drinks were well crafted. The service was efficient and Crystal took great care of us. This is such a cute spot and our server was great! It was my first time in and it started off great when the mimosas we ordered came out filled ALL the way up (the way we like them!), and our server somehow managed to not spill! The food was very fresh and tasty. The only reason I'm not giving the fifth star is the menu options themselves just aren't my favorite. They gave me a dairy milk vs the oat milk I ordered (lactose intolerant), but our server was perceptive and immediately offered to redo my drink. So I'd say the service was great. Our server was super sweet. I ordered the MGR latte, which was okay -- not a fan of the caramel drizzle, though. The avocado toast had an unexpected twist with a tofu and chorizo mixture that had a warm spice blend. It wasn't quite my thing, so I swapped with my partner's salmon benedict. Pros: the five of us really liked the food. The pork belly gyro came out first. I thought it was going to be my favorite dish. But then the smoked salmon eggs Benedict came out. It was such a flavorful, but still light dish. Really enjoyed it. My other friends got sandwiches or some kind. Those were unremarkable, but they all came with these delicious potatoes. Really good service. Good drinks. Possibly the bloody Mary was too spicy but still good. I got some kind of lavender Mocktail. And one of my friends got some kind of strawberry drink. Cons: Came here with my monthly brunch group. We had a reservation for five and they did kind of sit us at a small booth. I wish they had sat us at a bigger table. A friend of mine has been here for lunch and she said it was nothing special and she definitely hasn't been back. One of my friends wanted to try the baba ghanoush. My husband and I took two friends to Maple Ridge Grocery last night for dinner. Our friends had never been there and they were excited to try it. I absolutely love the atmosphere and the staff is super nice but honestly the food is always so so, especially for the price point. Last night I ordered the crab cakes for $17 and was happy to hear that they got their Seafood from Bodean. I have ordered crab cakes all over this city and these are some of the worst I've ever had. First off they were tiny. There were three tiny little crab cakes that have been turned on their sides. Every one had been thoroughly burned on the bottom so they were thick and that part tasted awful. The fact that they were so small meant that pretty much the whole tiny little cake tasted like burned and had a weird chewy texture. Looking back i should have sent them back but we were having a nice night with friends and i wanted things to stay chill. My friend ordered the burger and for $18 you think it would be bigger than a McDonald's burger... and it was....barely. They ordered the queso and it came with fries. There were definitely not enough fries for that amount of queso but we didn't realize that when you asked for more that they would charge you. I think that should be made a little more clear. Also? Maybe just include an extra handful of fries from the beginning so people have enough. I love that this is a cool place in my neighborhood and I really want to come here more often but I've just not had consistently great experiences. I'll give it some time and hope that things improve. I'll reiterate that the staff was lovely. read more

@auds.later and I had a lunch date at @maple_ridge_grocer the other day. The aesthetic is very cool. The restaurant made me feel calm. I got the salmon sandwich and a london fog with lavender. Both were super yummy. That LF was what the doctor ordered. Also, look at this chips! Auds had the chicken orzo soup and a coffee. She enjoyed the seasoning in the soup and we want to bring that java blend home. As with all Mcnellies Group restaurants, your thanx app is accepted and they give a postcard with the bill that they will gladly add postage and mail for you. Depending on which menu you get makes a big difference! I loved the carbonara with beef bacon on their previous menu and was soooo sad it wasn't on tonight's. It's the reason I came here so I was definitely disappointed. I got the French onion soup (wasn't great) and a Caesar salad (average) and it was a good size for the price. Wait staff was great, other than my water glass set empty several times throughout the meal without anybody noticing. My wine glass on the other hand was a very hefty pour. We couldn't decide which appetizer to start with. We decided to choose both the fried green tomatoes, and the hush puppies. Both were amazing. They both came with a really good dipping sauce. The fried green tomatoes had what I would describe as a chipotle dipping sauce, and the hush puppies had a sauce like spicy mayo. A fav brunch spot! My fiance and I love sitting at the bar on a lazy Sunday morning. Ask for your Bloody Mary extra spicy - it'll wake you up! I always order their all-day omelet. I don't usually like ordering omelets at restaurants but this place is the exception: they make theirs French style. Super creamy, not rubbery (like how some omelets can get...) simple, yet super flavorful. Comes with a fresh and lightly-dressed side salad as well. OMG!!! What a treat to have breakfast at this place which is nestled in a quaint, cozy neighborhood. We found it on YELP. We perched ourselves at the bar, and Kennedy (barista) greeted and waited on us. She shared the history of this property, happily suggested what to order, and re-freshed our coffee (which were poured in cute mugs) several times. Our meals were delish. We bought two dozen fresh eggs of an assortment of colors and a freshly-baked-that-morning maple bar. New menu. New crew. Not the same food. Ordered brined citrus chicken. The salt overtook the chicken, the mashed potatoes, and the citrus. Often after brining chicken the salt-wash is rinsed off to reduce the saltiness. Another water bath wouldn't have helped this as the meat was penetrated with salt. The dinner bread was fresh and delicious. The hamburger, decent, but came with torn bread. Imagine getting some bread that had mold but it was your last piece of bread and you needed to feed someone hungry. The bread looked deliberately pinched off in a few places like someone removed an issue with it. The burger itself tasted like a McNellies branded burger, just with an overly coated sesame bun. At one point it was the food and the ambiance that brought me here. Then it was the ambiance, and I just ate the food. Now the food will keep me away. I can't believe how delightful this place is! Someone really knew what they were doing when thinking through the aesthetics. It's the kind of place you want to spend a little extra time over lunch, order an indulgent glass of wine and just hang out while enjoying delicious food!
