It's a fun spot in a busy part of the night life area of downtown. I love sleeping ball, and we will pop in here just for a few friendly rounds of play and leave. I don't drink anymore, but when I did, I enjoyed the mixed drinks. The canned beverage selection is low. If you are a white claw or high noon girlie, don't expect more than one or two flavor options. I've also come for a girls night and we had a blast. Sometimes there will be a lot of machines down, and you may want to be aware that skew ball balls often end up in the wrong game, and one machine may have way more than another. I've always loved visiting The Max's, but lately security during the week has been aggressive and promptly getting involved in fights. I have yet to go into any bar in Tulsa and witness a physical altercation to that extent involving staff. I know that he has been in two fights within the past month or so. One became a bloody mess, where he claimed to be the owner as a stance of power to prevent people from intervening. The second, which was last night at the time of my writing this, he had to be physically removed from the situation. It is very appalling, disappointing and the lack of self-discipline would rightly leave any person feeling unsettled. I would hope this man be checked before things escalate any further than they already have. read more

80's and 90's babies unite! They have such cool retro stuff. I only popped in to see what it was all about. The bartender was friendly and we talked for a bit. I liked all the decor. Flashbacks to my childhood! From stuff like the A-Team to Garfield. Man...my ADD brain was very entertained! I want to go back and try a couple of their quirky drinks and play some games, great nostalgia. We popped in on a week night about 10pm and there was a homeless man sitting having a beer and about 6 older guys playing games and one couple fighting in the back by the skeeball... so it felt "awkward " lol. I've been coming to this bar for yearsss. The bar owner is amazing: She's really fun and loves people. As long as you're not a dick, she's not a dick. But she can be mean, when youre forced to "drink something nasty" in front of everyone. Everyday in the week (besides Friday and Saturday ofc), there's a different event here. I come almost every Sunday to play free Bingo. Regular bingo allows you to roll a big squishy dice that gives different prizes; except that rolling a 5 forces you to "drink something nasty." Ray the bingo announcer, is very exciting and does his job very entertainingly! However since I work night shift, I haven't been able to come to any of the other events. However, the bar owner has put alot of creativity into these games and they sound really fun. "Live event" games aren't the only thing this bar has to offer. They have tons of 80s, 90s and 2000s arcade games. Don't forget the pinball! There's a great selection of alcomahols. 80s and 90s box TVs that actually work. I LOVE this place!! from the outside it kinda looks like a normal dive, but the second I walked in I was blown away!! The decorations inside are incredible, a ton of anti furs lining the walls and shelving units, a projector of old movies playing on the concrete wall, and gathered all around us, old arcade games. It an incredible environment!! And when you walk up to the bar, the variety of alcohol and options is absolutely beyond compare. The specific menu is absolute favorite thing! We met the owner, she's explains. We were each handed a glass of champagne and told to take our time. This is an 80's type bar with arcade games.  When you walk in you walk directly into or onto a small dance floor.  Tonight they had a DJ.  It's a little awkward to walk through people dancing but it is casual enough that it doesn't matter.  They have old time TV's above the bar and lots of 80's décor.  The dragon from Never Ending Story is hanging from the ceiling!  Lots of games to choose from including skee-ball.  The bar has some great concoctions using pop rocks and other fun decade appropriate items.  Gnarly in a good way!  A Tulsa must visit. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. It's awesome because the games are nostalgic and the drinks are fun. However, the restrooms aren't the best, the bar is sticky, and sometimes the machines take your tokens. This is a cool place to hang out, play games, drink, and be a big kid. How am I the first person to write a review for this place? So if you appreciate pop culture from the 80's or early 90's you will immediately love this bar just seconds after walking in the door. Although I hate to say it, it's hipster heaven.. TVs everywhere playing episodes of Thundercats, Who's the Boss, Punky Brewster etc.. On the left is a terrific bar with a great selection of imports and domestics. Marshall's on tap. Served by very friendly bartenders and staff who work with smiles on their faces and are obviously thrilled to be working there. They now have a food menu featuring 'gourmet' junk food. The chili dog was the best hot dog I can remember having. Loaded with goodness. Also, this place is smoke-free, which is nice. The arcade-bar also features a very decent collection of 'classic' arcade games, including The Simpsons, Tron, Mortal Kombat 3, Marvel VS Capcom, Asteroids, Pacman, Tecmo Bowl etc... Very impressed with what they were able to put together, and apparently they will be switching these cabinets out every once in a while. Overall, it is hard NOT to love this place. Downtown Tulsa needed a new bar for people to get excited about, and this place definitely delivers on that. Just drive by on almost any night and you will see for yourself by the number of people inside and out. My one complaint? There are no ashtrays outside for people to put out their cigarettes. If you are going to draw in all the hipsters from the street and tell them they can't smoke inside (completely understandably), then please provide some kind of ashtray so I don't have to litter at the front door of my favorite new bar. This place is a fun trip down memory lane. It has a bunch of old arcade games 80s kids grew up playing and they had throwback decorations. The drinks here are cheap but good. They have speciality cocktails to go with the retro theme which I find awesome and they also have a variety of craft beers in a can. We visited this spot twice - once on a Saturday night which was a mistake. We were at the front of the bar to order drinks and it took more than 15 minutes to get a drink. The bartenders didn't even make eye contact to let you know they will be right with you. On a busy weekend they had 2 bartenders and 3 bar backs which I feel the ratio should have been switched around to make sure everyone was taken care of. We each had a drink and left because of the long wait. We returned on a Tuesday afternoon and there was hardly anyone there, which was great because we had free reign of all the games. There was only one bartender at that time but she was attentive and quick to help those that were there. If you plan on visiting this location I would avoid weekends. There isn't a cover charge to go in on the weekends but expect to wait a long time for drinks and to use the games. read more

Walking in, I could tell my inner childhood come back to life. Coin operated Arcade machines, old CRT Televisions playing classic B rated movies, Posters of memorable 80's pop culture adorning the walls and just vivid colors everywhere. Music blaring old classics and drinks named after your favorite 80's icons. I ordered a few drinks and they are infused with pop rocks and pixi stick dust on the outer rim of a few drinks. Drinks range from 5-8 dollars and they have a menu book for you to look at while you ponder what might get your juices flowing. Any game you could think of, the Retropub has it. Although some of their machines could use some restoring as some games like NFL Blitz, the buttons stick and could seriously screw you over when you button mashing the throw button. If I lived in Tulsa, I could see myself hanging out here often every weekend. I definitely saw a lot of couples of what looked like a good place to take someone on a first date. A must for visitors and taking people out in Tulsa! The Max is one of the unique bars that make up the Blue Dome District in downtown Tulsa. They play or have exclusively 80s and 90s music and the bar is full of vintage arcade and video games that even the muddiest of duddies will love. The crowd in here is super mixed in terms of age and group, which I love--no one is an Outsider at the Max (I was trying to make an Outsiders joke but I don't know if it worked there...) We're beer drinkers and they had $1 bud lights so obviously that's a 5 star for us! They also have a pop rocks drink which is a fan favorite, we saw one ordered and the people loved it! When I heard this place existed I thought it was a dream. DREAMS DO COME TRUE! Add this bar to your list of places you take your out-of-town guests -I have never been anywhere like it. Retro televisions line around the bar playing classics like Saved By The Bell. And the gaming... my inner true gamer comes alive with these well preserved Pac Man and pinball machines.
