This is by far one of the best places I have eaten at in the city. I first came with my husband for our anniversary (loved the personalized menu) and was just blown away. The restaurant is literally candle-lit. Talk about ambiance. Super romantic. We had to do the seafood tower and kudos to them for making it dairy-free (for my husband's allergies) so we could both enjoy. Splurge but totally worth it. While we were at it we also each got the waygu filet (hey, go big or go home) which was so buttery, melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Topped the evening off with chocolate cake, which I normally don't even like, but had to try due to it's popularity. The subtle taste of the coffee with the crunch of the hazelnuts are what make it so good. The next time I came for brunch and honestly I'm not sure which was better. For brunch, each person gets to choose their own entree and then other dishes are given to the table. The crab eggs Benedict was ah-maze-ing as was the filet and bacon. I really don't think you can go wrong here. The service is also fantastic. So attentive. My water glass never went below half-full and all so nice. It's pricey for sure, no doubt about it. I used to love this place - the staff is great, the ambience, etc. As most know, this is not a cheap place - which is fine - I can afford it. However, the last time I was there which was about a month ago, I got the grilled diver scallops. The dish came with four half pieces of scallop. They basically took two scallops, cut them in half, and that was the entrée. I'm sorry, but give me a break. My date and I laughed and decided that we are officially done with Maple and Ash. It wasn't like the scallops were big either - normal size. I'm not seeking big portions at a high end restaurant (I actually prefer small portions to stay fit), but this was absolutely ridiculous. We were seated on the 3rd floor, I'm not sure if this is the main dining room but it is filled with candelabras and very dim lighting. It was gorgeous in every way. They started us with a complimentary caviar and french onion dip with house made chips and a starter cocktail, both were a perfect way to begin the evening. We were celebrating a birthday and anniversary and were congratulated by each staff member who interacted with us in any way. You get a personalized message on take home menus for any occasion you make them aware of, a really nice touch. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable in all aspects of the menu along with the extensive wine list (enormous) and spirits menu. We ordered the grilled octopus for an app, the ribeye and ricotta pillows of love entrees with mushroom and spinach sides. Every dish is elevated and delivers a party in your mouth. For dessert we chose the coconut cream pie, it is a foot long wedge of creamy, light decadence. I had the Midnight Kisses cocktail - two of them, actually, and they were fantastic. Only sore point was the dessert- the ice cream had no flavor whatsoever, aside from the strawberry scoop. Maple & Ash is gorgeous and has the complete steakhouse upper class feel. We sat outside under the pretty lights and it was a total vibe, especially to celebrate a birthday with the accompanying customized menu! Frankly, all-in-all, I didn't think the service was anything to write home about especially with how much we spent on our meal. Our server knew we were celebrating both a birthday & engagement and didn't offer to bring out any comp drinks or desserts - I know that sounds weird to complain about, but so many places even on the lower end would've pulled out all the stops for a night like that, but ours seemed like a bit of an amateur. The apps were all great and honestly the best things we got. The surf & turf was small portioned and while very tasty, nothing to compare to other meals I've gotten from high end steakhouses. Chicago is known for its steakhouses and Maple & Ash is a must. My husband and I were in town for a work thing and decided to celebrate our anniversary here. Our waiter was extremely engaged and ensured we got all of our food super fast so we could catch our flight. There were many little touches that made the experience that much better - for example a starter which included some caviar and somehow they just give this to you?? I was nervous we'd get charged $100 or something because the menu does list this but I guess it's a larger portion if ordered. We also got a printed menu which had Happy F*cking Anniversary over it as a keepsake. They also stored our luggage for us as we were literally going to the airport right after. It would've been nice to have stayed longer to enjoy the experience more but glad we were able to fit it into our tight schedule. Oh and save room for the coconut pie for dessert. Food is fine. It's a steakhouse so not exactly fine dining but good steaks. But this is possibly the most egregiously marked up wine list I've ever seen. In fact I can't remember a list as overpriced. Some of the prices I might believe if they were denominated in a different currency. As an example the La Rioja Alta 904s are $50-100 bottles of wine.... even for older vintages. Maple and Ash sells them for ~$700-800. And the wines by the glass are even more insane. read more

Wow - the most interesting steakhouse experience I've had, and not in a good way. Let"s start from the top. Upon arrival, my partner and I were very awkwardly greeted by two hosts at the entryway -- and by "greeted" I mean stared at as if we were aliens and there way no verbal "hello" or "welcome, only stares. After talking them into bringing us upstairs (although we had reservations), we were escorted to something of a hotel lobby. There was very loud club music bumping and 90% of the patrons I could see were hobbling around in their intoxication. Not the vibe I was expecting. As we sat down at our table, our waitress poured us a free cocktail without telling us what it was. When I asked what it was we were drinking, she told me she had to go back and check with the bar because she didn't know. Interesting!! Before ordering I walked to the bathroom. During that journey I saw the bouncer walk in patrons to a bathroom stall and do a few lines with each other (I'm not joking). Overall, I would describe Maple & Ash as a place where overgrown children go to party and spend absurd amounts of money on mediocre food to impress their dates. I saw many 50+ year old men with 20+ year old dates. Their business model is to get patrons as drunk as possible with free drinks, purposely add things onto the check that were never ordered, and for example, bring us 12 oysters instead of 6 and hope for us not to notice because we are hammered. The steak actually ended up being awesome. But all of the other components and patrons this place attracts really spoiled the evening. The bill process is super confusing. They use your deposit taken at the time of reservation as a payment toward your bill. It's all kinda messy and is designed as another opportunity it's for them to get over on you. Enjoy! read more

Amazing experience! We visited Maple and Ash to celebrate my friend's 24th birthday, and I am very satisfied with our dining experience. Our server made us feel very special throughout the night. She listed out all her recommendations, specials for the night, and most popular dishes. We ordered the seafood tower, the lobster pasta, and finished it off with the 28 day dry aged bone in ribeye . Throughout the night I noticed that waiters and waitresses were just casually carrying five-arms candleholders from one table to another. This is just an interesting scene to witness and I can tell that everyone else in the restaurant was also enjoying their experience. Seafood tower: The seafood tower was delicious! My favorites were the crab legs and the shrimps. I really liked how flavorful they were and the pasta at the end. The seafood sauce soaked in with the pasta, making every bit of the dish very worth it!! Lobster pasta: Better than expected! The thick lobster pieces and crunchy breading really made it epic. 28 day dry-aged bone in ribeye: The ribeye was pre-cut by the chefs. It was so tender and juicy ... we finished it in no time. I originally reviews this place a 3/5 stars. I decided to change my rating to a 4/5 stars after this weekend. I hosted my friends bachelor party dinner here with 16 people. Our waitress Tori was absolutely top tier. The drinks were great and for 16 people the food came out relatively fast. I lowkey just went here today. When we walked in the place looked decent aesthetically . We sat on the 1st floor for a lunch reservation, where they had a nice lounge and bar area. While chillin and trying to figure out what to order, we had a gentleman pour us room temp water and when I took a sip of the water through my straw something besides water came out. I took what ever it was out my mouth and it looked like an old piece of meat or something(). The guy apologized but never told his server partner what took place. They gave a lousy 10% off we didn't leave though shorty still was gasing the place up. They heard so many good things about the place so we still ate there and the food was still amazing. Especially the King crab sushi roll. We was also disappointed another time because we went there thinking that we would try this dish in the video but apparently we were too early (noon) and they don't serve this until happy hour which starts a 5pm and ends at 6pm the server explained. So I guess that's exactly what it is "a happy hour". 5/10. If you ask, they will make a mocktail for you. Our was citrus themed and quite pineapple focused. Good value at $8. Christmas in July - 4/5. Rum drink with fruit and a homemade Caribbean spirit. Decently balanced, but the fruit didn't come through as much as I hoped. Meatballs - 4/5. The tomato sauce was the best bite we ate. Rich and full of flavor. The meatballs were dry and rather boring. The cheese curds and garlic bread were OK. Sashimi - 3/5. The fish was decent but not spectacular. The salmon was reasonably good but didn't love the other two, it felt like they weren't quite that fresh. Agnolotti - 2.5/5. Very disappointed with this one. The filling was boring and lacked the puffy wonderful quality I was hoping for. The sauce was mild and the mushrooms provided some texture. The dish lacked a star. Frites - 2.5/5. Fine but not great fries. Not worth $10. My wife is a huge fries fan and basically didn't eat it. Chocolate Cake - 3.5/5. Good cake texture. Maple and Ash... by far my favorite restaurant as of now. The service is top tier, they know the menu inside and out and they never keep you waiting. First off, they greet you with a complimentary glass of either the bartenders experimental drink, champagne or wine Al one with a pairing of the chefs choice... and this is all before even touching a menu!!! The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is stunning as well. Last but not least, the food is exceptional. When it comes to the food, my personal favorite is the seafood tower!!! One of the few hot seafood towers that comes in a succulent chili butter sauce that is to die for... oh and don't forget to ask for a side of the pasta to dump into the seafood tower sauce ITS A HIT!!! My only smaaall issue with that is they kind of wait till you are finished eating the seafood tower to bring out the pasta but it tastes so good we wanted it with the tower to compliment the tower but no biggie. Also, the steak is cooked like in this big open pit flame that you can see from your seat. Cooked to perfection but our server recommended the "beef butter". My husband and travel for new years each year to enjoy the food and festivities in different cities. This year was Chicago and Maple and Ash was the first stop for dinner when we arrived on Friday. The main dining room reservations were sold out for weeks so we opted for their patio, which is converted to a covered porch area on the street outside the restaurant. The space was warm and cozy, with headlamps and fur blankets. The decor was still up for Christmas and I am a firm believer that twinkle lights are appropriate year round so I appreciated the effort. The food, which is an abbreviated menus, did not disappoint. I would however skip the Baked In coals French onion soup. Nothing special there. But the grilled octopus with saffron and garlic was a very flavorful. My husband had the special T-bone, dry aged and served with a bone marrow and Cheese accompaniment that was Rich and Delicious. We also had their lobster Mac and Cheese that was on special. Very creamy and Crab forward. Delish! I opted for a crab and tuna roll as my main. They have a quite an extensive sushi roll selection. Simple, fresh and clean with Serrano peppers on top. All in all it was a great experience and our waiter Alex ensured we were well taken care of. read more

I think I've made it a tradition to celebrate birthdays at Maple & Ash. This year I celebrated, but for brunch. And wow, was it an experience! I made a reservation with OpenTable for free, Maple & Ash does book reservations on their website, now with a $75 cancellation fee for brunch, and I believe $100 for dinner. For brunch, my table was offered a complimentary warmed pecan cinnamon role with caramel and cream cheese frosting and a Don Julio,coffee, cinnamon cocktail. I don't like coffee, but this cocktail was delicious! Weekend brunch consists of ordering seafood a La carte, or entrees with sides for the table. I ordered the chicken and biscuits and my friend ordered the omelette as entrees and we shared sides of bacon, breakfast potatoes, French toast, and filet mignon. The sides are unlimited for the table, and everything was delicious! The staff was great, vibes were great, and it's the perfect place to celebrate or just to enjoy a scrumptious meal! Been going here since it opened. Fantastic seafood tower, steak, sides and cocktails! Service is always friendly upstairs, a bit rude downstairs to people I've come with or seen who are dressed more casual. Feel like the crowd scene has changed over the years to people who just want the birthday or celebration sign. Flash photography everywhere which is kind of blinding while you're trying to have a nice meal. The last few times I went the crowds of large tables were also kind of rowdy and rude, definitely bothering myself and surrounding tables and people sitting at the bar.
