Beautiful restaurant with a nice ambience. We came on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. I had their tropical spritz mocktails, which were tasty and pretty. Then my friend and I shared the lobster fried rice, crab cake, and brussel sprouts. We very much enjoyed the brussel sprouts. They had a smoky flavor and a good amount of char, giving them more flavor. The crab cake was my fave, had a creamy texture in the middle and crispy outer. It came with a horseradish sauce that was really tasty and not overpowering. The rice was just ok to me. The service was also just ok, nothing to write home about. The bartender was attentive, made the drinks well, but he wasn't the most friendly or welcoming. Nice place for a date or to meet up with friends. Will be returning. read more

First off I rarely ever leave reviews but I feel that people should be aware. I went to RPM last weekend as we were visiting Chicago to celebrate my husband's birthday. They offer personalized menus therefore I requested one with the reservation. When I arrived I noted two menus behind the hostess stand but they were labeled and neither with my husband's name. I asked the hostess if there was a menu for my husband. She looked up the reservation, said "no and it's probably too late to make one". (Although we were half an hour early having drinks at the bar.) Then she stated that they had a generic birthday menu that they could give him with no attempts to try and provide what was requested ahead of time. We were sat at an extremely small table and he was provided a regular menu which was given to him per the directive of said hostess. The manager came to the table to greet us as I'm assuming the sever was behind. I spoke to him about the menu and he asked if I made the request along with the reservation and I told him that I did. He said that he needed to verify. After doing so he came back and agreed that I had and said happy birthday to my husband and offered us a half a glass of "bubbly" which we reluctantly accepted. Then everyone went on as if nothing happened. We didn't receive an apology. There was no offer to satisfy us in any other way. (A decent table upgrade would have been nice,) Then I see the same glass of champagne wing offered to another couple celebrating a birthday while sitting in a large booth. There was a large table next to us with a couple celebrating an anniversary. Then a younger couple came in and was told to choose a table wherever they would like. The food was great. The wait staff was excellent but I did not appreciate the way we were treated. I don't want to say it was racism but I was made to feel... different. Side note. I visited Maple and Ash (a sister restaurant) in Arizona for my birthday a couple of years ago. They printed the menu for me but spelled my name wrong. We were just in Chicago and set up a list of 8 restaurants to enjoy from Friday to Sunday to celebrate a couple of birthdays in our party of 2 couples. RPM Seafood was one of the choices we made because we had a good experience at RPM Steak during our previous trip to Chicago. Well, I hate to say it, but we were pretty disappointed, to say it mildly. We ate family style and ordered the following: Yuzu-Cured Salmon - yuzu juice poured over some 2nd rate salmon is how it tasted Hand-Cut Hamachi - flavorless non-sushi grade hamachi is how it tasted Oysters - It was somewhat fresh but we would give it about a 6 out of 10 if we were to score it Everything Parker House - this bread was dense and tasted about the same as what I'd expect from any grocery store. The French butter was ok though. RPM Crab Cake - Overly seasoned and made it saltier than need be. Whole Tempura Black Bass - felt like that kitchen forgot to add any amount of seasoning at all. The tempura batter was decent, but the taste was non-existent Ora King Salmon - overcooked, dry, and flavorless Charcoal-Grilled Branzino - small portion, overly salted, and dry We generally tend to look for foods with deep tastes with long palette finishes. We're not usually into immediately impacting palette attackers, but the food was very VERY boring. I'm a big fan of RPM Steak and this might be my first time at RPM seafood. We came here for the restaurant week lunch menu. The portion was decent, but the taste was a bit disappointing. For starters, we both tried tuna crispy rice. The rice was not crispy at all but sticky. So sticky that many pieces got stuck on the tooth and was very unpleasant. The crispy fish taco was not crispy either. The flavor was very bland. I was expecting grilled fish with crispy fish skin, but it was fried fish fingers. I should have read the description more carefully as it is made with Halibut, so fish fingers made more sense. Grilled Branzino was amazing! The best dish on the table for sure. We were given half of a fish and the skin was crispy. Meat was more on the dryer side, but tender. We finished off with dark Chocolate Gelato, which was good - the right amount of sweetness compared to the seasonal sorbet (apple). read more

Had brunch there party of four restrooms are very clean. The vibe of this place reminds me of like a waterfront restaurant in Florida. It just gives this whole chill upscale vibe. The servers were very attentive and knowledgeable and friendly. I had the lunch prefix menu and it was a salad then Branzino we also ordered a side of the mac & cheese, which all of it was so so good. They also had a seasonal sorbet for the third course and that was apple cider and it was divine. I also had a dirty martini to drink, and that was delicious as well. I wanted to love RPM's Rare Whiskey Event, but overall it fell short of expectations--especially for a $300+ ticket. The organization was a mess. Long lines, confusing flow, and a lot of waiting around. Buffalo Trace easily had the best selection of the night, but most of the other distilleries were pouring everyday shelf bottles you can find at any local liquor store. Nothing about that felt "rare." What really hurt the experience was the bait-and-switch. Several pours that were advertised never showed up, including Four Roses 135th Anniversary, Russell's Reserve 15 Year, and Mister Sam. For a premium-priced event, I expected the headliner bottles to actually be available. The retail shop was another disappointment. Full secondary pricing on Pappy and BTAC, and the Buffalo Trace store pick was listed at $200 for what's essentially a $45 bottle at best. That was laughable. For the price, this event just didn't deliver. Plenty of whiskey bars and events in Chicago are doing rare pours and premium tastings far better and with way less chaos. This one's an easy skip unless major changes are made next year. read more

We had our Thanksgiving dinner at RPM Seafood, and what a perfect choice it was! Located right off the Riverwalk in downtown Chicago, the restaurant already feels special the moment you walk up -- and for a holiday like Thanksgiving, reservations are absolutely a must. As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted warmly by the hostess. Walking to our table felt like strolling through a winter wonderland -- the place was decked out in Christmas ornaments, sparkling trimmings, and little festive knickknacks everywhere. Honestly, straight out of a Hallmark Christmas card! You'll see the lively bar first, and then discover there's a second floor for larger parties, which is super convenient. Our party of seven fit perfectly in a cozy booth with plenty of space. RPM's Thanksgiving feast was served buffet-style, and we definitely came hungry. We started with warm Parker House rolls and French butter -- simple but perfect. For appetizers, they brought shrimp cocktail, oysters, a harvest salad, and mini crab cakes... which I absolutely loved. On the entrée buffet line, they had slices of juicy turkey breast, flavorful turkey legs, tender beef tenderloin, and roasted salmon that literally melted in my mouth. For sides, they had all the classics: traditional stuffing, fluffy whipped potatoes, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, roasted broccolini, and the must-have green bean casserole. And then came my favorite part: dessert. They offered tasting-size portions so you could try everything without feeling too guilty... which I appreciated! There was pecan pie, 14k chocolate cake, lemon meringue, caramel apple pie, chocolate panna cotta -- pure decadence on every plate. Service was impeccable from start to finish. But for being a little slow on taking the initial cocktail order (crowded restaurant, two of the party were a little late...but we waited a little longer than we thought was appropriate), this was an OUTSTANDING meal. Think of RPM as the steakhouse of seafood restaurants. Steakhouse pricing (i.e., aggressive) ... really good food, all à la carte. Super professional, attentive service. Busy, buzzy contemporary atmosphere made the evening fun (if a little loud; probably not the place for an intimate conversation). Menu includes everything from salads and sandwiches to steaks and seafood to some sushi rolls. Our group's order: One appetizer (a clam chowder en croute) and an order of Parker house everything rolls (the latter an excellent choice at the recommendation of the OUTSTANDING gentleman server who had our table). Two orders of the halibut, one of the miso black cod, one of a scallops special, and sides of mushrooms and Brussels sprouts later, we had a very, very happy group of four. Interesting selection of wines by the glass, from the moderately priced to the "I can't believe they have this wine by the glass" with a price point to match. We got there around 8 and were told we could sit at the bar, where there weren't enough seats or on the patio, so we chose the patio. There aren't enough heaters for the size of the space, so if you're not sitting near one, which we weren't, you can be pretty cold, which we were. Waiter eventually showed up, and we ordered drinks. Too bad we only saw him one more time to order our food before we were well done with the meal. We never had a chance to order a second round until we were ready to go. Just as well, as the house cocktails were overpriced and didn't taste like much. The highlight for me was the halibut, which had great flavor. I tasted one person's crab cake and liked it, but she thought it had too much sauce and was overwhelming. Nobody else really raved about their entrees either. Of the sides, I tried the mushrooms and broccolini. They were fine but nothing out of the ordinary. Upon entering and walking up to the hostess stand, I was completely ignored by a brown haired guy as he was answering calls - 2 phones calls, a scroll through his phone, - and nothing - whilst his brown haired female coworker chatted with other workers. I eventually had to greet myself to them after waiting for 3 mins! After speaking with the manager, I was told the hostess stand was busy that evening due to cancellations (from the rain) and people looking for a table. Still no way to ruin someone's PAYING experience that actually showed up in the rain without a single apology from their hostesses. They definitely set the tone and it was awful! The evening from there was mediocre and I was ready to go from the moment I sat down. The service was extremely slow but the waiter I had was nice especially after finding out what happened upon my arrival. I ordered the octopus appetizer and found it to be a little too salty for my taste. For my meal, I ordered the salmon and mushrooms as the side. The salmon came cooked medium and mushrooms sautéed. This meal was very basic and there were bones left in the fish. The waiter did bring out a strawberry sorbet as a finisher and this was probably the highlight food wise. Overall, I wouldn't come back.. ever. Terrible terrible hostesses, slow service, and underwhelming food. The food was served family style, and while everything was solid -- the chicken, corn, and pasta -- the standout was hands-down the miso black cod. I couldn't get enough of it. Skip the lobster fried rice: it was so bland and so NOT worth the price. Ribeye was cooked perfectly but the star of the show was the tempura black bass. OMG. I have been thinking about it ever since. The presentation was WOW, they put the whole fish back, the fry was so light but had the kick of the chili crunch. Unfortunately, for the last two experiences with RPM seafood, my personal opinion is that the service has taken a nose-dive. Firstly, it doesn't seem possible to reach the restaurant any longer. Now, an AI-enabled service answers the phone, and when you need a human because it can't help you, the phone just rings and rings, then it hangs up on you. Front of house was unfortunately incredibly rude, but I do understand things were busy. Our table wasn't super late (they were less than 30 minutes behind schedule for reservations, nothing dramatic), but they acted like I was being a complete jerk by asking for an update, and offering to sit in the bar instead. I almost left the restaurant at the point, but decided to stick it out. Unfortunately, service didn't get better at the table. Several times, food was cleared before we had finished. At the RPM price-point, that's simply unacceptable. Not even an "are you finished" for our last fish taco, and the rest of our miso cod. I've never seen a table bussed so aggressively and silently. We started off with the cheese-baked focaccia and the everything Parker House bread. Fantastic experience here on Sunday evening. My wife and I came to celebrate her birthday and it did not disappoint. We were happy to sit next to the windows overlooking the river and the lights shimmering on the water were magical. We did the Handcut Filet, which was cooked perfectly med rare to rare and it was flavorful and had minimal seasonings (salt and pepper) with a nice crust. My wife had the Wild Alaskan Halibut with capers in brown butter which was light flaky and moist and tasted wonderful. The sides stole the show. We had the Charcoal Roasted Brussels Sprouts and the Maine Lobster Fried Rice. These were delicious. The rice was light and fluffy and loaded with flavor. Very enjoyable indeed. I got the burger and requested my onions to be cooked and they accommodate it. The fries were okay, nothing special. We also got their special peach salad, it was good. The service was decent. Made a quick Sunday reservation the day of and spent a gloriously sunny Chicago day basking on their terrace having cocktails, extremely satisfying food and watching the boats go by. We can't wait for another chance to go back. Obviously as the $$$$ signs note things can get pricey so just keep that in mind. Their cocktails are delicious but can quickly add up and absolutely melt your credit card haha We were early so we sat at the bar and had a few cocktails until our table was ready. Perfectly on time they came and showed us to our table by the water. We opted for the prix fixe lunch at $35 which was a great value! Service was quick, friendly, always there at the exact moment you needed them, and more importantly not there when you just want to enjoy your meal. 9/10 Chopped salad was very well textured, dressed perfectly and tasted refreshing and opened our appetites. 7.5 /10 Crispy tuna bites were clean and had that addictive crunch and chew to the rice. The only nit pick would be that the ratio of tuna to rice seems just slightly off needing a reduction of rice and increase in fish, also a small hint of acidity would really brighten up the flavors even more. Love the sliver of jalapeño. 10/10 Burger and fries were executed to perfection. All the flavors were balanced and let the perfectly crispy seared medium rare beef shine through. They opt for bottoming (not toppings) which is IMHO is the sign of a well designed burger. Onions, lettuce and pickles form a delightful ending crunch as you bite down through the softer top layers. 10/10 Branzino was very simply but expertly prepared with super crispy skin and moist flaky interior. Not a single bone to be seen, served with a simply lemon wedge to add some acidity and it needed nothing else. Heavenly! 6/10 Single scoops of Chocolate Gelato & Strawberry sorbet, a great way to end an amazing meal on a warm sunny Chicago afternoon. we came for happy hour at 4pm on a thursday and made a reservation. the weather was perfect- not too hot and quite sunny, so the open doors to outside made the ambiance so lovely and pleasant. what a perfect day to enjoy happy hour by the river. we got a few of the happy hour dishes- the yellowfin tuna crispy rice, the chilled oysters, spicy ebi shrimp maki, and the fish and chips, each for $10. we also got the espresso martini, the bascule mule, and the dirty martini. food wise- the standout was definitely the yellowfish tuna crispy rice, it was delicious and lemony and the tuna was so yummy and melt in your mouth. the fish and chips were also pretty good. the oysters were just meh- and a couple of the ones we got were tiny as you can see in the photo, which was disappointing especially since i've gotten much better oysters for $2 each as opposed to $2.50 each. the spicy ebi shrimp maki was also interesting- i'm not sure if i really liked it tbh but it wasn't bad. also for my koreans out there- this was essentially just kimbap, it wasn't sushi. which was fine but just something to note. now onto the drinks- i thought the drinks were done pretty well. i really really enjoyed my bascule mule, it was so gingery and fresh and delicious (and a pretty color). the espresso martini was strong but done very well and was enjoyable, and same with the dirty martini. overall, i think for this restaurant, you're paying more for the riverwalk ambiance. the food wasn't bad but the portions were small even for $10. also the service was great i will note- the servers were very friendly and attentive, i appreciated them a lot. the drinks were great and it was a very pleasant atmosphere on this lovely day but i wasn't too chuffed about how much we spent versus how much we got. read more

When I walked in here I felt so fancy. Definitely feels like a high-end restaurant so dress accordingly! We had a reservation on the weekend and were immediately seated us by the door, which let in a draft but not for too long. The waiter was very friendly and gave food recommendations. The bread was served with signature RPM butter. We also had the shrimp in olive oil warm appetizer which was flavorful and delicious. We also ordered the bluefin tuna/avocado sushi which was incredible. It was fresh, packed with flavor, and a good balance of soft and crunchy. Also loved the crab mac and cheese--creamy, cheesy, decadent. Eating it felt nostalgic but also like a brand new experience because of the crab. The portion was generous but that price is wild! For dessert we got the chocolate sesame cake which tasted weird at first. However, I quickly figured out that if you eat a bite of cake with the ice cream and crumble topping it tastes amazing. I came here for restaurant week and felt the selections and portions were worth the money compared to others participating! The ambiance is very light and airy, as it is along the River. Even though it was -20 outside it still felt like a watm summer day inside with the floor to ceiling windows to look out at the river. We started with the Tuna Maki Roll and Clam Chowder. The Tuba Roll was fresh and came with 6 pieces, perfect as a starter. The clam chowder came in a stunning ceramic soup bowl with a croissant baked on top - it stole the show. I will say the soup portion was not filled to the top which was a little deceiving but the bowl is big enough to have a good sized portion still inside. For entrees we got the Salmon and Wagyu Fried Rice. The salmon melted in your mouth, I could not stop eating it. The fried rice was just as good. Wagyu was cooked perfectly and displayed nicely onto of the rice. Service was attentive. We were constantly having our water refilled without a wait. The second we were done with a plate it was taken away. Our server perfectly timed out the courses so there was not a long wait in between each one. Soo I finally make it to RPM Seafood. I took full advantage of restaurant week this year and RPM Seafood was top on my list. The atmosphere was just my type. Nice light music playing, beautiful view of the river, nice lighting, just very grown and sexy you know ‍. I decided to dine by myself and the bartender took very good care of me. Ordering from their restaurant week menu, my night started with a glass of Malbec...to calm nerves. My starter was the blue fin tuna roll and my entree was Salsa Verde sea bass (I believe ). My dessert was a peanut butter chocolate maybe cheesecake??, I don't know. So, I love the blue fin tuna roll but my entree was an epic fail!!! The flavor was too overwhelming, you need a side to fully enjoy this dish. However, the gentleman who joined me at the bar dined on their fish tacos...which looked and smelled delicious. Just off the fact homeboy cleaned his plate, I will be back to try. I'm not a dessert person so I took the peanut butter chocolate thing home to my son. Not terribly disappointed. Frankly, the food was just not good enough for the price point, and if you don't get outdoor seating, the ambiance isn't all that great either. We paid for outdoor seating but they didn't have enough umbrellas on a very sunny day, so we ended up having to sit inside. They were completely unbothered by this. We'd only gone here because a guest from NY was visiting and we wanted to sit by the river. We spent hundreds for an ok lunch and no views. Wouldn't do it again. read more

RPM is a gorgeous spot with stunning riverfront views. We tried the black fish, king salmon, mushrooms, and lobster bass rice. All were fine but none had a standout flavor or left a lasting impression. Service started pretty strong but we waited quite a while for the bill and had to deal with glitches with the payment system that never showed our total. Overall the atmosphere is the real draw here, worth checking out atleast once but the food was mid. read more

I loved the ambience of this restaurant -- the open air overlooking the river on the 70 degree beautiful summer day, the light/neutral colors, plants/trees, it was VERY pretty. A casual but elevated feel. We ordered the crab cake for starters -it was excellent! It had a light lime soy on top (very light) which was a unique twist and delicious. I had the black miso cod, it was melt in your mouth good, cooked perfectly. We had haricot verts and the lemon potatoes and those too were excellent. They were a potato wedge shape, crispy on outside, soft inside nicely seasoned. So good! Then the finale - banana cream napoleon. I think this is the best banana dessert I have ever had! Oh and don't miss out on the "summer of rose" wines as a special, so good. I can't wait to cone back! read more

Spent $405 at RPM Seafood during Restaurant Week and honestly left feeling kind of underwhelmed for the price. We did the Restaurant Week menu - appetizer, main, and dessert. Also got a round of bread for the table which was $14, and honestly? Kind of a ripoff. It wasn't even hot when it came out so the butter just sat there, and it was basically just covered in pepper and seeds without much flavor. Probably should've gotten the cheese focaccia instead. The maki rolls I got for my appetizer were actually really good though. The Hamachi collar had this great crunch and the bluefin tuna tasted super fresh. Easily the best part of the meal. But then my salmon main was just... disappointing. Really bland, needed salt and pepper badly (and there wasn't any on the table to fix it myself). The mushrooms that came with it were tasty but there was SO much oil that it basically drowned the salmon. And the portion was tiny - maybe 4 oz? Which was weird because the appetizer rolls were pretty generous. The cheesecake dessert with candied orange peel was decent. Not amazing but good. I'm not huge on orange peel so I wish it was more of a sauce, but whatever, it was fine. I had an elderflower spritz ($18) which was pretty basic and mostly ice, but I guess that's a normal price for cocktails downtown these days. My mom got two old fashioneds that she really liked - the presentation was nice. My godmother had a gin & tonic and my sister got a Shirley Temple. The service was honestly great - the staff was super attentive and friendly. We sat by the window which had a nice view but it was FREEZING. Like it's 15 degrees outside and there wasn't much heat by the windows, so that wasn't ideal. Overall? The service was excellent and the sushi was fresh, but that salmon was a real letdown with all that oil and no seasoning. Portion sizes were all over the place too. I might go back and try something else, but definitely not ordering the salmon again. read more

I come here every year for a work conference and come to this restaurant regularly. The food is excellent, but the view on the patio is one of the best parts of this restaurant. I got the specialty pasta of the day and it was amongst one of the best pastas I've ever had. The surface is also very attentive. read more

My favorite of all the RPM restaurants. Get a table outside and enjoy all the incredible river views. A great cocktail menu and wine list. The menu has everything for the seafood lover. Dishes change seasonally, but everything is delicious. Always a good black cod dish, and the seafood towers look amazing. The lobster fried rice was delicious!
