    Orange chicken! Incredible

Chill and cozy restaurant right next to Venice beach! Server greets you right away with iced water. Pleasant customer service! I would describe this more as Thai food... Orange chicken and Dan Dan Noodles are a must! Tasty shrimp eggroll as well. Portions are gd enough for 2. Loved this place so worth it!

Located on Pacific Avenue in Venice almost across the street from Ospi (see my earlier review), my buddy recommended Mao's Kitchen while he went to a nearby barber for a quick beard trim. :-) The restaurant is fairly large, with high ceilings and lots of tables. The server was very friendly and mentioned a Fried Rice special which I immediately ordered. The fried rice was fantastic! A huge portion meant that I'd definitely have leftovers for the following morning's breakfast. I ate till I got my fill, and the server quickly made sure I had the necessary accessories to pack my leftovers. I will make it a point to visit here again ... sooner rather than later!

I'm sure I left a favorable review - and yet it's not visible. Imagine a parallel universe with hard wood tables as though a Hiao Miazaki roadhouse came to life. It's charming and cozy and memorable: for high quality authentic Chinese cuisine. The waiter was a peach!

Solid choice for Chinese food cravings in the Venice Beach area Food is solid, I like it. It shines in its own right, unique but still tasty. My cravings were satisfied. Interior looks nice, but j opted for take out. Interior has a rustic feel to it with classic wooden tables and chairs Staff is friendly and professional, and food came within 5-10 minutes from ordering. Great sevice overall.

Got the orange chicken and was pleasantly surprised by the portion size but a few bites into it realized all of the "chicken" was just fried chicken skin. Couldn't eat more than a few bites because it was so chewy. Waited the rest of the time for our waiter to return so we could ask if this was the norm but she never came back once in 20 minutes. We then we saw her clock out and leave and hand our table off to someone completely different who also never checked on us.

Got the noodle dish and noticed that they were jammed pack into the container. Which would be good if the meal was actually delicious. But basically all of my noodles were served broken. Service is fairly slow and this is the second time I've been here. Which is both good and bad since they were slammed.

Stopped by here for a quick dinner before a red eye flight, and ordered the Model citizen soup and Orange ginger chicken. Both dishes were very large and are good for two to three people. Note that the entrees don't come with rice, so you have to order that separately. The model citizen soup came recommended by our waitress since the noodles are handmade. There's plenty of veggies and a starchy broth. The orange chicken had a great crunchy texture and only a hint of ginger. It has some broccoli on the side. We had leftovers and I'd recommend storing the noodles separately from the broth so they don't get soggy. Plenty of indoor seating and they do offer takeout.

Found roach in noodles! My sister literally swatted it out of panic, while it was trying to eat her food! This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! Meanwhile, the server, an Asian lady with tattoos up her arms ignored our ENTIRE party! Mind you my two kids were there watching and wondering why the server kept ignoring their table. No water, no drinks, no soup. Maos has gone DOWN Moving forward Maos in no longer for us Beware! Make sure there's no extra protein in your food that you didn't ask for! Cheers to anything but this Yelpers! Xx

Calm atmosphere, very easy going, relaxed helpful staff. The wonton soup was exactly what I needed to be me back in a good space but the tea is LIFE! Will go again!!

    9. Hot and Sour Soup large. Very good!!!

Pro-tip: good luck finding parking around here ! Bottom-line: Surprisingly, Mao's kitchen ranks among the upper echelons of Chinese cuisine society . Each order made to order, so expect to wait a decent amount of time . But it is worth it! I've had a couple of items in the past, but my latest order was the large hot'n sour soup. There are many variations of this classic soup dish. In theory it should be equal parts sour/spicy, but I'm impartial toward the spicier take with an ancillary 'sour' after taste. Mao's hits my preference on the head. The base is smoother, savory, and spicy. Would definitely come back to try a main entree dish.

My wife and I visited Little Fatty while on a short LA business trip. We didn't have reservations…read more(I recommend a reservation) and the host told us the wait would be about an hour and this was a Monday night! She told us that we could be seated at the bar immediately, which is what we opted for. She placed us at a lower portion of the bar with two seats, which was perfect. The bartender, Justin took our drink and dinner order and I have to say, he makes amazing cocktails! We had egg rolls for an appetizer, which arrived very quickly and went well with our cocktails. I ordered a rye old-fashioned and my wife ordered a house creation, "Jesuit's Tea Party," which she enjoyed. For our entrees, I ordered Hainan Chicken and my wife had the Walnut Shrimp. Mine was really good, but I have to say I like the Walnut Shrimp better. They have their breading skills dialed in, so next time I think I'd go with something fried. All in all a great experience. Great vibe and everyone was very friendly and attentive.

Little Fatty is an Asian fusion restaurant that specializes in Taiwanese soul food. David Kuo is…read morethe chef and owner of Little Fatty. The restaurant was previously called Status Kuo and then rebranded to Little Fatty. It is also attached to a bar called Accomplice Bar. [Parking]: Metered parking only and I was able to find a spot two blocks away on Grand View Blvd. [Reversation]: For parties of 6 and smaller, reservations can be made on Resy. For parties of 8 and larger, there is a minimum spend of $75 per person prior to tax & gratuity. No-show fee = $15 per person. [Experience]: The receptionist greeted our party just outside of the restaurant and checked us in. Outdoor tables were available, but our party opted for indoor seating. The lighting was dim with a romantic and casual dinner vibe. At the end of the meal, the staff offered our table hot towels to clean our hands. [Menu]: Menu highlights on Resy include Chinese BBQ Pork, XO Fatty Noodles, Walnut Shrimp. Other Yelp highlighted items include Orange Chicken, Beef Roll, and Hainan Chicken. Burger Tuesday is offered ONLY at the bar. A bowl of rice is an extra $4.00. The staff also gave our table a cute cocktail menu with drinks named after each LA neighborhood. *** Squid Ink Xiao Long Bao (shrimp and pork soup dumplings, fresh ginger - $18.00): Only came with 6 pieces of dumplings. The dough was a bit thick and the flavor was just alright. XO Fatty Noodles (rolled rice noodles, XO sauce, bean sprouts, garlic chives, fried shallots - $22.00): The noodles tasted slightly salty. I couldn't tell whether I had sliced pork belly or flat noodles in the dim lighting and it turned out to be thick slices of flat noodles. Orange Chicken (orange soy-based sauce, dried chilies, orange zest - $22.00): Super crispy orange chicken, but it was crunchy type of crispy and tasted a bit dry. Walnut Shrimp (mayo, candied walnuts, sesame seeds, red cabbage - $25.00): his dish came with lettuce and looked really nice. The flavor was solid and it tasted very healthy. *** Personally it was an overpriced experience for mediocre Asian fusion food. I would much rather visit Jade Rabbit in Santa Monica for cheaper and more delicious Asian fusion food or Din Tai Fung in Santa Monica for a more consistent dumpling and noodle experience. The only reason to come here is for the date-night vibe. Honestly, the food tasted more like Northern Chinese fusion cuisine than Taiwanese fusion cuisine.

Dongting Noodle is located in the Sawtelle area. My boyfriend and I were looking for a light lunch…read morespot in the area and this seemed to be a good option. We actually didn't expect too much at a glance, but we were pleasantly surprised by our experience here. We were welcomed in and told we could sit anywhere we want. There was plenty of tables. The atmosphere was casual and laid back. The staff here are super nice and friendly. When another family come in, I saw how the workers went to grab a high chair and ran to reconfigure the table to give the family more space. It was a genuine and proactive display of customer service and care. They had physical menus, but you can scan the QR code at the table to order on your phones. My boyfriend and I shared a Beef Noodle Soup Combo ($19.99) and a Juicy Pork Dumplings ($9.99). This was a great deal because the beef noodle soup combo came with a snack in which we opted for the Wood Ear Mushroom and a drink in which we opted for the Arctic Orange Soda. The food was prepared quickly. The beef noodle soup combo came out first, and the dumplings came later on. It was quick AND TASTY. Wow! We try a lot of beef noodle soup but this beef is soft flavorful and tender. The portion of the wood ear mushroom was generous. The juicy pork dumplings had a thick skin compared to other xiao long bao places we've been to but the inside is tasty and balanced. A pleasant discovery that exceeded our expectations. It was friendly, affordable, quick, and delicious. What more can you ask for these days??

My expectations for Chinese food out in the West LA area are not super high but Dong Ting was…read moresurprisingly decent! It is located right between Coco Ichibanya and 10 speed so I would opt to try to find street parking in the neighborhoods just behind the restaurants or metered parking on the main road -- this can get tricky during peak hours though. You have the option of ordering from a tablet right at the front if you're just planning to do take out! It was relatively empty when we got there so we were seated right away and placed our orders with a QR code. Our server was there by herself around 5:30 but the food was prompt with coming out. Portions were HUGE to be honest for the price relative to what you usually expect these days in the LA. - Popcorn chicken: came out piping hot and freshly fried, nice aroma from the fried basil. Solid spot if you're craving Chinese popcorn chicken - Woodear: surprisingly had a nice spicy kick from the chilies, no complaints! - Beef noodle soup with spicy: only a very subtle mala flavor but broth was beefy, noodles had great texture. Only lacking thing were pieces of beef were kind of small but otherwise I was very satisfied - If you spend over $50 you get a free dish (pork dumpling, xialong bao/soup dumpling, or spicy (saliva) chicken. Opted for the xiaolong bao which was okay... meat was on the leaner side and didn't taste fresh but the skin wasn't super overly thick and a decent amount of soup inside Overall, for the value and standard of Chinese food in the west LA area I would come back if I ever wanted something decent local to me! :)
