The jerk chicken was the best I've had in the area in a while. I loved all the pairings that it came with. The grilled octopus was delicious, I couldn't get enough! And their famous oxtail was incredible. In my opinion, the cocktails could have been a bit better. Our waitress was very helpful in explaining the menu and always checking in on us. This has been a long time coming! I have literally watched this restaurant revamp and though I had been a bit weary to visit as I had been a patron of their predecessor for a few years, I finally decided to pay them a visit a few days ago. My goodness, they have truly delivered on food and experience! First off the host was so nice, and our waiter (whose name I forgot - he's a gentleman with dreadlocks) was absolutely wonderful! The ambiance is definitely giving a more upscale Caribbean experience. Now on to the food. In all honesty, everything was a 10/10. I had the bush fowl. It was a really great spin on jerk chicken and the portions are nice and big. Absolutely succulent! I almost didn't want to share with my companion. My friend had the goat puff pastry and braised oxtail. She had me try some of her food. Ok, that goat puff pastry is just an appetizer but when I tell you that thing was SO good, and I only had one bite! The meat was pulled and so tender, but I really think its selling point is its sauce. That appetizer is gold! Their oxtail was delicious as well. I should have tried a bit more to really understand its flavors, but from the little I had, it was very good. One of our dishes also came with a side of rice. I don't drink, but my friend order this mango alcoholic beverage. That drink smelled so good! I was literally sitting across from her and I could smell it. I think she ordered it twice, so I'm pretty sure it was hit. She also ordered this dessert - I forget the name but it's seemed to have ice cream and bit of fruit on it - it also looked delicious!! I'm so happy to see Mango Bay open! I came last night for dinner, near closing. There were a few menu items that sold out but if you ask me, that's a great problem to have. The service, atmosphere and food were delicious!!! The cabbage next to the jerk chicken was something to write home about! I don't know what or how but please keep doing what you're doing chef! The restaurant is very beautiful. The staff is very professional and welcoming. The food portions are very small, so if you're looking to take home leftovers there's a 75% chance you won't. What brings me to yelp is this. The waiter gives recommendations on drinks and appetizers as we've never been there before. When identifying what was in the drink he's recommending the exchange of tequila for casamigos. Normally when someone offers to exchange something its either no extra fee OR they will inform you of the upcharge. This now allows them to determine if they want to move forward with the purchase. Well the drink went from $18 to $30. This is not how the waiter should have handled this up-sell. Transparency is very very important and will have customers willing to come back. The food and staff were truly outstanding -- attentive, professional, and a real highlight of our visit. Our group was so delighted during the meal that we asked our waiter who the owner was. He told us, "Oh, the owner is my friend--he's downstairs, and I'll ask him to stop by your table." But the owner never came by. It left us with the impression that perhaps he only greets tables he considers VIPs. I've dined at higher-end restaurants where well-known chefs make a point of personally welcoming guests, so this stood out. The second issue was with the bill: a 20% gratuity had been included without any mention from our server, and the bill still prompted us to leave a tip--leading us to double tip. DELICIOUS!!! The food, cocktails and service were great 9/10!! My partner and I stumbled on a last minute reservation and were excited to support this black owned business in our area. Our server was friendly and had great recommendations, one being the cocktail special of the day the spicy lychee margarita, it was yummy! We got the Jerk Caesar w shrimp to start and it was so good, perfectly seasoned and flavorful. For our mains my partner got the Mango Curry Crab which is very creamy curry forward but did not disappoint. She devoured it!! I ordered the Snapper and although boney as snapper is, I had no notes. Every bite was tasty and warming to the soul! For our second round of drinks I ordered a spicy mezcal marg and my partner a dirty martini & again YUM! We rate our experience and meal a 9/10 only taking a point off for the wait for our first round of drinks. My family and I made brunch reservations at Mango Bay for my mother's 70th birthday. I must say I did not know this gem is tucked away in park slope. When we arrived the decor was amazing on the exterior and when we entered the restaurant it felt like we were transported to the Caribbean. The host showed us to the table and we were greeted with open arms everyone was nice and friendly. We started with a wedge salad and bake and shark, the food was amazing. We also had the plantain porridge which my mom loves. For the main some of us had the shrimp and grits and others had the French toast. Everyone enjoyed all of food. They get a 10 out of 10. Threw a fantastic surprise birthday dinner here for a dear friend who is Jamaican and has opinions! Everybody raved. I've seen several restaurants come and go in this space over the years and this one is by far the best. Both the ambience and the food have been upleveled. Since it had recently opened and we had a large party, we essentially ordered the whole menu. All hits, no misses! I especially loved my salmon and the curried goat puff pastry. My friend made the reservation so I did not know what to expect. He was let down, because on the website no where does it advertise or say there is a brunch menu and the menu shown on the site is only available after 5pm. The host at the front was amazing and jolly lol. Our server was also amazing. He was attentive and expressed that if we did not like something to let him know and he'll gladly fix the issue. I told him the substitutions I needed for my alcoholic drink & he helped me choose the right one! My sister however did not like her mango drink, again the server nicely exchanged it for something else. I ordered the Jerk Burger and was not let down!! The fries.... WOW I've never had fires so good I wish I was exaggerating. My friend got steak & eggs and cleaned his plate, my sister opted for the French toast since she wasn't interested in the brunch menu but loved what she chose anyway. We also got $40 bottomless mimosas (doesn't come with food by the way), it's only 90 minutes, okay cool. But... why is it served one little champagne glass at a time? A few rounds of shots were ordered too and we had a blast! I would say the restaurant building is a repurposed brownstone? The decor and wallpapers gave it was somebodies living room? Lol it was a comfy vibe nonetheless. The oxtail dish was tender, very tasty and filling, and the coconut foam on the rice was nice. The jerk burger with round fries was awesome. The burger was tender and the jerk spice and sauce was flavorful. We had an outstanding server. Muta was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the entire menu. It was nice having him as our server. Service 5+ For the birthday celebration Muta bought us a cheese cake with ice cream and sauce. The desert was so delicious and top off a wonderful experience. my family and i were really interested in trying out mangobay to see what the hype was about especially since it replaced Imani's. Overall I give this restaurant a 3 star rating. Our reservation was set for 5pm. When we arrived it was empty due to them just opening for the day so we were seated quickly. Now when it's time to order, we had 2 appetizers. The pepper shrimp was 10/10 as well as the curry goat puff pastry, but cost 24 dollars for one single pastry which i think was a bit insane. Now we forward to our main course. We ordered rice and peas but when our meals came we were given white rice instead. We let the two gentlemen who brought out our food know that there was a mistake and we ordered rice and peas, but they insisted that we ordered white rice and that they would double check to confirm. Then our waiter came and apologized letting us know that they had ran out of rice and peas which we were confused about because how could you run out of food already when the restaurant just opened and we were one of the first to be seated ? We said ok and settled on the white rice. Now we're eating our meals but weren't really satisfied because the rice was hard and tasted like jasmine rice from the chinese restaurant as well as the oxtail being salty. Ordered the jerk chicken entree and burger: the jerk chicken was flavorless and clearly baked not grilled. Chicken made in the oven is not traditional jerk chicken. It lacked any flavor or depth, minimal slice and worst of all only a leg and a thigh were provided for the price of $30+. The jerk chicken entree came with " festival " and it was terrible. Festival should be made with corn meal, sugar, nutmeg, coconut milk etc. None of this was present in the festival, no sweetness, just fried dough. Partially burnt at that. It was just fried flavorless dough. The burger was completely flavorless and came to the table well done when medium was requested. The burger tasted burnt, no salt, no seasoning. 6/1/25 As a person from the Caribbean, I was highly disappointed with the food, service, and wait time to get our meals. I chose Mango Bay for my daughter's birthday dinner last night, We ordered the ackee and saltfish rolls to start. Then the main dishes, braised oxtail, Ras & Pasta, and Bush Fowl. The starter took 25 minutes to come out, and the main course took an hour and fifteen minutes. The ackee and saltfish, as well as the branzino oxtail, were great, but the Ras & Pasta and Bush Fowl were very spicy. I'm unable to give a proper review on those because I didn't taste anything but spice. The drinks: We sent back the lemonades we ordered; they tasted like pure cinnamon. We decided on iced tea, which we had to sweeten ourselves, and two passion fruit drinks, which were the only thing good on our menu last night, along with the branzino oxtail and ackee and saltfish rolls. When our bill came 30 minutes later after asking for it, I discovered 4 items we didn't order on our bill, which I had to call attention to. The server took it off and apologized. It's safe to say this restaurant deserves one star or less for the food and service my family and I got last night. I don't even care to put up any pictures because I'm not recommending anyone to read more
