Commuted from the Bronx to Brooklyn just to try this place. It was a slow Saturday night fairly empty. I'm assuming because of the storm coming that night. The place was very vibrant and had beautiful murals all around. The staff was very attentive from beginning to end. Our drinks were made to perfection. The bartender took his time to create aesthetically pleasing drinks. One of the things that I wanted to try on the menu was mango chow. So we ordered the TriniJam sampler which had the works. Everything was SOOO GOOD especially the mango chow. I loved every bit of it. Onto the entrée. I had the snapper and chow mein. It was a pretty hefty dish and for the price I did not go wrong. Again, everything was so amazing. I can't wait to return to this place and have a gigantic bowl of mango chow and whatever else the menu has to offer. As a recommendation to the owner. If this place doesn't have as much traction as it could, I would 100% suggest that he promote his business on Instagram and do different food videos. If I could give this place more stars I would. I have been hearing such great reviews about this restaurant and said the next time I'm in town, I had to come and visit! I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely husband and wife team- Latoya and Calvin. They are one of the sweetest business owners ever. I tried the Curry Crab Legs, Chowmein, Jerk Chicken Platter, Curry Goat Roti, And Tropical Alcohol Free Drinks. All the dishes I had were presented well, tasted authentic, and made with love. We usually take out Trinidadian food, so we were intrigued to try a dine in Trini restaurant with table service. They have a huge, full bar with a fun cocktail menu. I opted for the rum punch. They offered it as standard or strong. I opted for standard and thought it was a reasonably strong drink, so I expect the strong version to be an absolute knockout. It was pretty happy with the cocktail as it was sweet and ginger forward. Food wise, we started with a double. I liked the stewed chickpeas, but it didn't come with additional sauces. The fried dough didn't hold up too well. Personally, I prefer the doubles at Trinciti or A&A. For the main course, we shared a curry shrimp plate with macaroni pie, maduros, and sautéed cabbage. Pricey at $30 but a filling plate with variety. Atmosphere was relaxed. Mix of families and folks hanging at the bar. They have the potential for great food not only because of the cuisine but spices they have available to them. However, while the ambiance is there the presence isn't. We walked in around 7pm on a Saturday and the place was dead. We doubted because usually the place is questionably opened or desolate closed to the point you ask yourself if they're still open. The service, our table had, was friendly but they were lacking a lot. There wasn't one thing in the menu that they actually had to reassuringly order without they'll coming back to tell you they didn't or they can do something else. The bartender wasn't there so the server/waitress/bartender/hostess told what she could make it was good at. That's a disservice. We had the wings plain and that was seasoned enough to actually taste good. No sauce. That means they have the potential to make great tasting food but you can't taste it if they rarely have anything that can be ordered. For dinner we attempted several entrees, and Everytime they came back saying they didn't have it or someone just ordered it. I feel like a dining experience needs to be an experience from the time you walk in the door. We are ordered some passionfruit margaritas and Jack and coke. We decided to have the wings. We ordered the honey garlic and regular fried wings. The fried wings were delicious and way better than the honey garlic flavor. I was disappointed that I didn't get to try the entrees on the menu being that a lot of the food items were unavailable. Years ago this storefront use to be the Canarsie Grill, where my Aunt use to work at as an early young adult. My family is from Barbados and it was great to see a yummy West Indian restaurant open up in the area. We decided to go to Trini Jam for my Dad's birthday on 2/8/24. We arrived about 12:30 PM around opening time. The server that greeted us at the door, was very pleasant, friendly, patient, and accommodating. We did not catch his name but he was a young light skin gentlemen with dread locks. We did not have to wait long for our food even though, we arrived within the opening hour. We ordered 2 plates of the Jerk Chicken meal and white rice, chicken wings, with veggies. All portions were large and satisfying. The food was very tasty, flavorful, with extreme notes of traditional West Indian flavors such as scotch bonnet pepper, jerk sauce/seasoning, thyme, and pimento seeds. The drink options were all traditional and homemade West Indian drinks. Some freshly made and others from the Grace brand and Ting. So don't expect to ask American sodas and beverages, however this was not an issue for me or my family. The Ambiance of Trini Jam was just wonderful. The establishment was very clean, cozy, and neat. The tables were spaced together well. There was an open bar and TV monitors, great for watching sporting events. We were the only customers that sat down to eat that early afternoon however, there's enough spacing and privacy between tables. We all were very full and satisfied from our meals, and the Sever checked on us multiple times during our stay. When we were leaving the Sever was so kind of enough to give my mother and I both 2 big red roses. Was told we needed a reservation (but was allowed to be seated) for a restaurant that had plenty of available tables the whole time we were there. It took 2 hours to get our food. There were only 2 employees on the dining room floor trying to host, bartend and serve food at the same time. People that came in after us were being served before us. They were bringing the wrong orders to tables. One employee was sent home because of it. It is recommended to make a reservation in this place as it was explained that they were not prepared to have so many people come in on a Sunday night. I'd like to give this place another chance, maybe someday during warmer weather. This experience was a 3.5 out of 5 experience.
