Hmmm, based off this location imma say NO For now. I know they have multiple locations this happens to be on Sutter. The ground beef presented as meatloaf ( i know) was horrible. It had too many spices in it where it took away from the meat like who eats spicy meatloaf. The yams or whatever they call it was blah and the chicken and Mac really did fight to make the plate lol. Then it was some type of honey something on the food. Yeah they should rethink this and get again. Not gonna say a one and done I'll give them another try.

Someone needs to tweak the name of this place from Vera's to Queen Vera's cause damn it was so good it commands more respect. This restaurant oozes southern hospitality and cuisine at its best. Right through the door. Warmly greeted by the sweet staff. The place gives the vibe of "come in baby, let's make you a good plate and feed you just right " There are no seats but trust ,wherever you end up enjoying this meal it will transcend comfort. I was just there to pick up a Too Good To Go order and I was a bit early . ( I was honestly confused because the pickup time said 9pm to 930pm but the website said they closed at 830pm ) I told them I wasn't sure of the time and I was willing to wait but they said they'd make my order right away. They actually close at 9pm on Friday. I took some pics for my review, collected my order and was on the way home. As you know I'm a big supporter of Too Good To Go as it's not only a good resource for food rescue but a great way to try a restaurant's food and get a feel of the service . Now on to the food at Vera's. To say impressed would be an understatement. Everything made my tummy smile. Rice seasoned so well I could just eat a plate of it by itself. Mac and Cheess just the way I like it- baked and cheesy. They gave us fried chicken, barbecue chicken and Honey Butter chicken . I can't choose a favorite they were all great. The cutest little corn bread bites were fluffy and so good. Of course my kids fought for them. I see turkey wings on their menu and that's one of my favorite soyld food meats . I will return to Vera's to try more of the items especially the Collard greens and peach cobbler. The prices are very reasonable . The restaurant was clean, they have an ATM on site too. I very rarely give 5 stars , I have to be really really impressed and satisfied with food ,service ,value and cleanliness among other things. Coincidentally the last place I gave e 5 stars too was another Soul Food place in close proximity . The southerners didn't come to play in Brownsville and (Queen) Vera is another gem in this area.

Where to begin? My visit to Vera's Take Out in Brownsville, Brooklyn today was nothing short of amazing. There's good food service, and then there's the exceptional level of courtesy, cleanliness, and customer service I experienced here. The trip was a bit of a hike, taking two hours on public transportation from downtown Clinton Hill to Brownsville, for those familiar with Brooklyn. Upon arriving, I was pleased to find the flat roll-in glass door, which was especially appreciated since I'm in a wheelchair. The accessibility was spot-on. A friendly, courteous gentleman greeted me and made me feel right at home. I mentioned it was my first time there, and he excitedly walked me through the many delicious options. Everything looked fresh, clean, and incredibly appetizing! I chose the fish with mac 'n' cheese and collard greens, as well as the meatloaf with spicy rice and cabbage. I also couldn't resist ordering one of each of the eight sides on the menu. After the long bus ride back home, it was finally time to dig in. The meatloaf was tender and flavorful, while the rice and collards were just right. I almost ate my dinner plate in one sitting! As a cabbage lover, I was thrilled with the cabbage, and the yams with marshmallows reminded me of my childhood. Everything was superb, and the service rivaled the food in excellence. I was especially impressed to see that this is a Blackowned business in a Black neighborhood. They've worked hard to offer quality, respect, and a top-tier product. It felt great knowing they understand that I have a choice when and where to spend my dollars. I loved seeing Black excellence at its highest

Cornbread Brooklyn - Two Piece Chicken Special with an extra side

Visited on a busy Saturday evening and really enjoyed my meal. I ordered an iced tea/lemonade, and…read moremy meal was a piece of catfish, side of mac, and it came with cornbread. The food was delicious, I will definitely return. There was no line to order when I arrived, but we were directed to order at a kiosk since they were short staffed up front. The young man at the counter was very busy but kind and I could see the workers in the kitchen working hard as well. The ambiance was typical for a fast casual restaurant. Some people grabbing takeout orders, delivery app workers doing pickups, and dine in patrons at tables. There were seating options for couples as well as groups. I definitely do recommend and will return next time I'm in the area.

( I also ordered tea) I tried again with some friends. Today was the first time I've been inside and actually sat down. Once you order, they ask for your name and then serve your table by calling your name. It's cute. As for the food... I ordered the fried chicken with potato salad, dressing and cornbread and peach cobbler. My chicken looked good, but tasted a little dry. Maybe it was just being under a light for a bit. I visited in the evening. Who knows? My potato salad was a bit bland, and I was hoping for some pickle relish mixed in. (If you know, you know.) I'm not a fan of cobbler, but I thought I'd give it a shot. They also had apple cobbler, which I should have stuck with. I can't tell you how the cornbread dressing was. When I got home they forgot to pack it. I don't think I'll be back, but it's a nice place to sit and chat with others while they enjoy their meals.

This was some of the best fried fish I've had, if we're talking about just the fish itself. The breading is solid - going with a hot level of spice meant there was a good amount of seasoning on top, but I wouldn't classify it as spicy. It was crunchy at points, but missing the flakiness and true crunch I'd associated with top-tier fried fish. However, where it makes up for this is how good the inside of the fish is. This was spectacular - crazy moist, super tender, and just tasted fantastic. The complete opposite of that rubbery texture you get when you overfry the fish. The sauce that came with the fish was a little bland, however As for the sides, I thought the mac and cheese was really good - cheesy, slightly crispy on top, and cooked very well. I also liked the grits - though a bit buttery. The fries were a miss though. For the price, I think around 25 for the meal and a side is a solid deal. The sides especially come with pretty large portion size that will leave you very full. Overall, this is very good Southern food that I certainly enjoyed. 8.5/10

I liked the chicken but I personally wouldn't pay for it again. The best tasting part of the meal was the cornbread but you barely get any of it. I liked the mac and cheese as the best value of the entire order. To caveat this, we did order out, so I'd like to return and update my review soon with a dine-in test. The takeout takes quite a long while and it's pretty cramped inside the actual restaurant especially to wait, so I'd highly recommend ordering ahead of time online.

As soon as you walk in, you can smell the amazing dishes and you can literally feel the love they put on each plate as they serve the guests. I almost don't want to share this review for fear that the line may get longer but this restaurant is now one of the few that I recommend you go out of your way to try and enjoy. Their menu is classically simple but made with an abundance of care and no shortcuts in their cooking. As you are seated you are welcome to place your order in the front of the glass display, they cook everything in house and sometimes they run out of the specials so don't sleep on getting there on time. We ended up getting their lunch specials and picked one main and two sides. I know my girl loves Ox Tails and ended up getting the last plate with some candied yams and Mac and cheese. Let me tell you, we cleaned the plate and it was finger licking good!!! The jerk ribs were amazingly tender and fall off the bone. All of the sides were well portioned and absolutely flawless. Don't come here if you're on a diet there is only one way to enjoy this restaurant and it's to just dive in. FYI - you will need a nap after your meal. This place just hits your tastebuds differently; it doesn't just leave an impression, its mind shattering good. You will sing after the meal - happy dancing the whole time as you're eating.

Customer service is 5 stars and phenomenal…read more But I'm here to talk about the food. I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Customer service was beautiful for sure but the food was not it.
