Love the vibe here. Feels like a big city bar in Cbus! We walked in at 10 pm on a Friday night for after dinner drinks and it wasn't too crowded since this was early for Gen Z but late for us millennials. Since it wasn't too crowded and it was our first time there, the bouncer was a little more forgiving of the fact that 1/3 of our group didn't quite meet the expectations of the dress code. I didn't know there was one, but you can find it on their website. A reservation is def recommended otherwise you might have to wait an hour on the waitlist or you can sit at one of the wooden high tops lining the perimeter outside. They have a wide variety of cocktails and also 2 mock tails, which is nice for people like me who are currently not drinking, but still want to be social. I opted to try the Pretty in Pink mock tail, which gave me a not overly sweet, citrusy soda vibe. The other one was a variation of a non alcoholic Moscow mule which I'd love to try the next time I'm back . Although we didn't try any food this time around, I'm intrigued by the Asian-Mediterranean fusion menu so I'm coming back hungry next time! read more

We came here on our first date. Must have been really good because two-months later we are still together. You enter through a hotel. Walk up to the elevators, the restaurant is on the rooftop. The entrance to the elevators is a quite a scene. It's beautiful with gorgeous faux greenery covering the walls entirely. Makes for quite an entrance. Upon getting off the elevators you are greeted by the hosts. I've only been in late summer when the place is opened up to the outdoors and their box gardens are blooming!! The bar wraps around to the left. There is a mix of cocktail tables indoors and bench seating outside. They have a beautiful garden lining the glass walls. My only disappointment is that the designer created the benches to face the indoors and not the beautiful skyline behind us to watch the sunset. Patrons have to turn around and stand up to view it if you sit outside. Everything we had on the menu was fantastic. Drinks were really great. We started with wine and then ended with a bottle of Saki. For food we had the cauliflower, eggplant, wagu steak and sushi. Since Haiku shut down I haven't had any good sushi until this place. I went with a group of 8 girls for my niece's first "grown up" night out. The table was ready quickly as reserved. The staff was welcoming the server was very friendly and knowledgeable, though inattentive for long periods. It appeared that she was preoccupied mostly with another table a bit far from us. The view is nice as it's a rooftop restaurant. We didn't get to really experience that aspect of the ambiance, however, since it was cold outside. It's definitely a trendy vibe with low lighting, an Instawall and focus on the city view. The food was just okay and pricey for the quality. My Mediterranean salad was very disappointing- a bland chopped salad with the highlight being pomegranate seeds. I added steak but that consisted of small overcooked, dry nuggets. I would not recommend it. However, our table tried a variety of dishes since it's a tapas type menu: The steak bites- small, overcooked "filet" nuggets with sauce, also very overpriced. The whipped feta-a delicious option to share. Korean street chicken was also pretty good. The sushi and dumplings were just satisfactory, pretty basic. The special cocktails were on the sweet side, with most girls commenting that they enjoyed them. The Matcha Martini was unique and actually my favorite. It was one of the worst things I've tried. The shrimp had a really bad fishy taste. It did not have the texture of shrimp. I could not eat this dish, nor did anyone else in the group eat it. The Brussels were not thoroughly cooked and didn't have much flavor. The dumplings were amazing and I actually ordered another plate of these. They were not crispy but they had so much flavor!! The best part of this place is the decor/location. It's a beautiful restaurant which is nice to have in the city. Makes it feel like the city is truly growing. Highly recommend making a reservation. We had one and still had to wait a bit. We were seated immediately but it took quite some time for our server to come around. We ordered drinks and 2 appetizers both came out pretty quickly. The drinks were decent, probably not worth $17 a piece but good. For food we ordered the pork dumplings and street corn. Dumplings didn't really wow me, I wish whatever sauce/broth they were sitting in had maybe been on the side to dip instead of floating on the plate. Now the corn was VERY good. Had the perfect amount of kick. Our total for 2 people was $80, again pricey but we knew that going in. Was in town to celebrate a friend's birthday and got to visit a lot of fun rooftop bars in the area. This was definitely a fancy one. Absolutely loved their decor and their vibe. The outdoor patio looked very serene as well, but unfortunately, they didn't have the dividing floor to ceiling windows open for us to be able to easily access the area. They surprisingly had a gluten free dairy free dessert option (VERY rare to find) and it was a creme brulee. SOOOOOOO GOOOD!!!! Seriously! SOOOO good. This totally made my day. But truly, the service was excellent, the dessert was great and the place relaxing. Annnnd we had an outstanding view of the sunset which made the place literally glow with the coloring of the sun. I've been here four or five times now and have enjoyed all my experiences. The ambience, service, drinks and food are all top-notch. The drinks are unique and the sushi is fresh. Yes it is on the pricey side but you do not pay a cover, so it is essentially paying a little extra for some of the best views in Columbus. We've had a different server each time and they've all been friendly but also personable! They do so much to make sure you are taken care of, including thanking you for visiting over email every time. There is a diverse crowd during the day, and turns into bottle service at night. When you're here, it truly doesn't feel like you're in Columbus anymore... you are transported to what feels like Miami or Vegas which is unusual for Ohio (in the best way)! read more

The food was excellent and had a unique spin on most dishes. The dishes are fairly large portions to be shared. One of us has a peanut and tee nut allergy and had no problems - the waitress took extra precautions to double check each dish with the kitchen staff. Everything is made in avocado oil or sesame oil. Slight negatives: cocktails are pricey ($14-20) and very tiny; a few cocktails on the menu were no longer available; reservations are only for inside tables. read more

Went to this establishment and had an amazing time with my friends. We were there fairly late.. but there was an employee who was rude and insisting that we leave. He was very rude.. when we tried to joke with him, he continued with his sarcasm and rude attitude. Maybe the manager on May 21, 2023. On our way out the door we asked if one of the other tables were being asked to leave and he said "yes, if you'd like for me to ask I will" (aggressively). But why do I have to ask you to ask them if you were so adamant about getting us out of the building? I thought the place was closing? Anyway, he never asked them to leave as I watched him. It was clearly intentional on who he decided to ask to leave as we were all paying customers. His attitude was very unwelcoming and confrontational. Food: 5/5 Mandrake had excellent food. We had the sunset and short north rolls and they were so fresh and delicious. It is some of the best sushi I have had in Columbus. We also had the wild bang bang shrimp and crispy pork dumplings which were so good. The only downside was it was pretty expensive for the sushi and the small portioned appetizers. I understand they are shared plates for the appetizer but there were only 3 of us and we found the portions to be small. Drinks: 4/5 The drinks we ordered were very good. Local or visiting - this place is a must go! Come hungry, thirsty, and with time to spare because this is an experience you do not want to rush! First you walk in this hallway that looks like an apartment building or hotel with an elevator you have to press the button that says "Mandrake" on it (you can also press the #10) so it's a very private/speakeasy type of vibe. When you get upstairs its stunning from the décor to the skyline view of the city, its more than a 180 degree view of all that surrounds you. We headed to the bar and the bartender (Vince) was moving fast but quickly got us waters and menus to take a look at. Our first round was a High Fashion (play on an old fashioned but with plum Japanese whiskey so be ready for just a little extra sweetness to your OF). I had a pretty in pink (with titos) and I was pleasantly surprised how you could really taste the freshness of the strawberry in the strawberry basil sorbet, the twist of lemon was a perfect addition to bring it all together. Vince then asked what kinds of things we like to drink and if we wanted recommendations for off menu options, we were intrigued so we agreed. He asked us a few questions about our tastes and usual go to drinks and then he made us each a new beverage. Mine was a delicious gin cocktail floral on the nose with a citrusy undertone to really break out the citrus in the gin, and another bourbon drink for my friend, he enjoyed it and thought it was unique vs just a traditional old fashioned/Manhattan you can get anywhere. I also had the opportunity to taste the "good florals" cocktail which had a great mouthfeel and was refreshing although im not sure I could appreciate the kiwi infusion in the vodka since the st germain, peach soju, and lavender water where competing. Glancing at the menu, the executive sushi chef, Chef Yudi was walking around the restaurant chatting with a few folks and I asked him for recommendations. He brought out a play on the Hamachi Jalapeno which was succulent and tender with a really mild heat element. We had an opportunity to try a few off the menu items that night, a Lobster roll and a tuna trio. If the lobster roll makes it to the menu, I hope they sear the bread a bit harder as it was starting to get soggy and break but the tuna trio was fantastic! A thinly cut red fin that completely melted in my mouth, a thicker cut of the yellowtail which was incredibly fresh and tender followed by a fatty tuna which is a delicacy and one that while not often ordered personally I thoroughly enjoyed. As we were half way through our Tuna Trio, the managing director of the restaurant (Kal) came over and asked us our thoughts on the evening and the food we had tried. He was clearly seeking an environment of excellence in this restaurant and was enthused by the minor critiques we offered. I always enjoy when someone at the top makes time to interact with patrons and really ask for feedback not just "hows everything", rather when they actually want to know about your experience. This is such a fun place to be with the head sushi chef really understanding and appreciating the delicacy of his product and the manager engaging with guests at the level he did. Now it was time for dessert. We ordered the Paradise, French Mocha Roll, and Strawberry Fields. The truth, the paradise is the clear winner here with the vanilla bean in the sponge, the rum pineapple compote and the brittle for just the right amount of crunch. The Mocha Roll was very optically stimulating however it lacked in flavor and the sponge was a bit dry. The Strawberry Fields had some definite high points with pistachio in the crumb and the amaretto strawberries on top where tasty. Also, the desserts where quite large and great for sharing. Overall I very much enjoyed my visit to the Mandrake Rooftop and absolutely plan to visit again. You could tell there were quite a bit of repeat customers which creates a great vibe and friendly atmosphere. There was even a woman at the bottom of the elevator sending us off with "have a great rest of your night" on our way out. Its obvious that the staff was really enjoying themselves as well, seems like a great work environment which personally I appreciate because that tends to spill over into the guests. This my friends, is an experience as I said in the beginning so be prepared for exactly that. read more

Pros: the views of the sunset are awesome, lots of attention to detail with the decor and a pretty extensive drink and food menu. Cons: the cost of the drinks $16-18++ is steep, especially for Columbus. The magic mushroom drink was cute, but tasted like overwhelmingly of coconut and pineapple juice (even though there wasn't any pineapple in it). I ordered a gin and tonic next and had to ask the waitress for a lime since it was served without. Not a dealbreaker, just odd. To be fair they were extremely busy as it was only their second weekend open and the waitstaff were doing their best given the craziness. There was rain that day and the staff told us we would have to wait a little but we stopped at the bar and grabbed a drink after about 10 minutes our table was ready. The service was fantastic from the hostess to bartender and server Nathalia. 100% this girl deserves some recognition. First she came to introduce herself, was super friendly, and recognized my partners food allergies that we listed on the reservation and walked us through the menu telling us where we could make substitutions to accommodate her dietary restrictions. The only downside to the whole thing is that the portions are small (tapas style) and pricey. However, worth it for the views and deliciousness. Everything was fresh and super tastey. The sushi chef who came from nobu that they always used to brag about isn't there anymore and the food is awful now. this is the thinnest piece of sushi i've ever had. the crunchy spicy tuna was burnt, and overall the food just sucks now and the menu is random and some mediterranean some american, some japanese and doesn't go together. they need to pick a lane and stick with it. not to mention they took the good drinks off the menu and the staff (especially the manager) are so rude. used to love this place, but sadly won't be returning again. read more
