My friend and I went out for happy hour and had such a great time on the outdoor patio. It was the perfect day to be outside--finally feels like winter is breaking! I ordered two seafood apps: the seared scallops and the garlic roasted shrimp, and both were excellent. The scallops had a perfect sear on both sides, which was a great start, and the shrimp were seasoned really well. For drinks, we both got the Supremo Peach--so delicious and refreshing. I also tried the espresso martini. It was good, but honestly, I wish I had just stuck with the Supremo Peach because the switch was a bit of a shock to my palate. We spent time chatting and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Service was quick, and our waiter was very attentive--he even checked back in with us before happy hour ended, which I appreciated. This experience was night and day compared to my last visit, and I'm really glad I gave this place another chance. For me, this might be the perfect happy hour spot. What really threw me was the extreme amount of ice my bartender, Ian, added to my drinks. Sir, I know they're only $13 but wowser, it doesn't hurt to actually demonstrate your appreciation for your customers. Take out the ice, and I was probably served about 4 good sips. This trend was upheld with my next cocktail, a Strawberry Basil Collins. It was very wine-forward with the taste - so much so, that it overshadowed any strawberry or basil that, allegedly, were included in the drink. The flavor discrepancy wad eclipsed by, again, the extreme amount of ice. Did I hurt you in a previous life, Ian? Did I pillage your village? Kidnap your first-born? Deny you a loan? I was in town on a 3 PM game day but got a day before Saturday resy for 5:30. I'm an Aggie so, sure, whatever, no harm in Ohio State cheers. Free fries for kids, a kids menu with an $8 cheese pizza and a cool plastic kids cup with cars on it. There's a frozen cocktail on the menu (spin on aviation) and some other delicious cocktails. Maybe the BEST pizza we've had. And we're from St Louis, where there's good pizza to be found (not Imos). We were looking for pizza after my last event in the CrossFit Games as a way to celebrate the end of the competition and give our son a reward for sticking with us all weekend. After passing by several places with "Pizza" signs, I chose Forno because of the Yelp reviews. As usual, Yelp has never guided me wrong!! There was a bit of a wait, but it was very short, I think we got lucky. We were seated at a patio table with plenty of space in the front corner of the small patio area. Our server was immediately taking drink orders and chatting with us, she remained very attentive all night. We quickly ordered our pizzas and a roasted beet salad. The salad was great, perfectly roasted beets with arugula and goat cheese (of course!) Then the pizza arrived. It was amazing. Very bright flavors and more seasoning than most pizzas. The meats ( sausage, pepperoni, and prosciutto) were perfectly crispy and delicious. There were several cheeses on the pizza(as it should be!), and it tasted like a perfect blend. After having been away from Columbus for more than twelve years, I joined a group of colleagues for my first meal back in town at Forno Kitchen + Bar last night. They set up a special menu for my group, provided tasty food, good service, a memorable experience. There was even a speakeasy (or so I was told) downstairs that my colleagues checked out before I arrived for dinner. The menu included an appetizer, salad, and choice of an entree or pizza for each of more than 20 people. For my appetizer, I chose Arancini, which was fried risotto balls, fontina, and San Marzano sauce. The cheese, risotto, and tomato sauce blended so well together to make a wonderful appetizer dish! I then selected a house Italian salad with onion, prosciutto, pepperoncini, olives, ricotta salata, and herb vinaigrette. The salad was good though the pepperoncini was more spicy than usual, which I could have done without, but the rest of the salad was fine. I chose a pizza for my entree and went for the Carne Pizza consisting of Italian sausage, capicola, pepperoni, red onions, mozzarella, and San Marzano tomato. It was wonderful! I ended up with leftovers that I took to my hotel and heated up for another meal. Yum! This Italian restaurant hit home quite well for us. The food was great, and the drinks were as well. I stuck with a soda while some of my colleagues ordered from the nice, drink menu. Everyone was happy with drinks. The biggest challenge was that our large group only had one server, who was very helpful but it was challenging for her to keep up with all of us, and our dishes came out slowly often with us waiting a while for the last person to receive a warm dish before we started eating. There were also some incorrect orders brought out though we figured it out as it happened without an issue. The staff also told us not to give back the silverware used for the first course as we should use it for all three courses due to being short on silverware that evening. We read about the weekday happy hours from 4-6 PM that included half price house cocktails, drafts, glass wine, pizzas, shared items, and bar snacks. There are also half price bottles of wine and champagne on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 PM to 1 AM. Wanted to have a nice dinner with friends after an event, and ended up with a car full of people desperately trying to find a restaurant in Columbus that stays open past 9 pm. Columbus has great food, but apparently the entire city has an early bed time. One of my passengers yelled out "THAT FORNO PLACE LOOKS OPEN" and we all went in blind. The decor and ambience were very nice, somewhat upscale but still cozy and family friendly. The service was incredibly friendly, and made my massive group feel right at home. We put in a giant order and it all came out rather quickly. Everything was very good, and way better than expected for a restaurant essentially picked last minute from thin air. My entire party was thrilled with their food, and while my linguine with clams was very good, the star of the show was this warm burrata appetizer with perfect tomato sauce; 3 were ordered and three disappeared before I even had a chance to snap a picture. The prices were also very reasonable. My only real complaint was that ambient music was a bit too loud, but all-in-all it was a delightful experience and a wonderful surprise. read more

Was near the Short North so I called my son to see if he wanted to meet for lunch. Forno is a few blocks away from his condo so we met there. We quickly found parking in the street, just steps from the restaurant. Payment is easy, you use an app and place in the code. Took a minute or less and poof we were inside Forno being sat. The restaurant itself is really cute. It hasn't changed since it opened about 10 years ago. It's bar centric and has two sides to the bar in each side as it feels just a little different of a vibe but it's blended really nice and there's a back room that has more Tables... I've eaten back there before and never really like it because you feel disconnected from the entire restaurant. The hostess did a great job of accommodating a member of our party who has a disability. They found us a nice table that was easy for her to get in and out of. I even had a really great view of not only the entire restaurant, but it was also by windows. Porno specializes in woodfired pizza and pastas so we decided to order two pizzas and and my son and I also split a sandwich. Service was quick and attentive. The food was delicious. We ordered a pesto pizza and a meatball pizza both were delicious but I think we preferred the meatball pizza which was unexpected. There's not a lot of meatballs on it. There's only like maybe 1/2 of a meatball on each piece with the pizza isn't huge and it was more than enough meat. It was very tasty. We got the chicken sandwich and wow it was amazing. My friend and I came for the Halloween pop-up at Marmont, the speakeasy near the restrooms. The vibe was super fun with classic horror movie references and all the usual Halloween décor. We didn't try the food, but the drinks were so creative. The bartenders were fast and really attentive. The speakeasy atmosphere was perfect and intimate. They had reservations on all the tables, and nothing was available even a week out for Friday night so we walked in and stood at the bar. Eventually we noticed several tables sitting empty and we just grabbed one ourselves. Overall, still a great experience. First off, the service was top-tier - friendly, attentive, and just really on point the entire night. You can tell the team cares about creating a great experience. Drinks: - Double Cranberry Vodka was mixed perfectly - refreshing and balanced! - Supremo Peach (Rey Supremo Tequila, peach purée, lime) was also a hit - smooth, flavorful, and dangerously good! Food: - Crispy Rice with Spicy Ahi Tuna - the risotto base made the rice a bit crispier than usual, but the flavors were still spot on with sweet soy, jalapeño, and pickled ginger. So good! - Pasta Forno with shrimp was hands-down the best pasta dish I've had in Columbus. The rigatoni in vodka sauce with mushrooms and melty mozzarella was rich and comforting. I asked for the shrimp tails to be removed and they accommodated without hesitation--always appreciated. There's also a Speakeasy downstairs, though we were quoted a 1.5 hour wait at 8:30 PM. Still, it looked like a fun scene, so I'd love to check it out next time! First time in Columbus and was recommended this restaurant by my Lyft driver! I stopped by with a friend on a lovely Friday evening. We were seated immediately in the cozy outdoor patio space. Based on the waiter's recommendations, we ordered the spicy buffalo chicken pizza and prosciutto pizza to split, which were phenomenal. TLDR: Worth it! Good food, great service, sweet value. I was happy to be able to get a reservation for brunch at this busy restaurant. We were originally Sat at a high top near the bar, but when they saw how much we were ordering, especially the Mimosa Bottle Service, we asked to move to a slightly roomier spot and they kindly obliged. I really appreciated this and we got to sit next to each other which is our preference. Food wise: the Braised beef dish with an egg, is So So good!! Definitely worth trying if you like that savory food. The chicken and waffles was pretty good, but the sugar coated waffle threw me off. They serve is with a "spicy" aioli which I originally thought I would stay away from, but it was actually 100% necessary to neutralize the sweetness and worked so well!! I also ordered a Bloody Mary and enjoyed this too. Overall, we felt it was tasty food, a good value, fun atmosphere and very friendly service. With half off cocktails, glasses of wine, shareables and pizza this is a huge win! Our waitress Molly was super sweet and fun, making our experience even more enjoyable. Very small and the tables are tight but if you get there early, on a slower day.. it may be more enjoyable. The upstairs of for o gets pretty crowded like that too so if that doesn't bother you, the speakeasy is right up your alley! The drinks didn't wow me either unfortunately, but they have cute names and presentations. Calamari: 4/5. Tasty and a good portion. I wanted it a little more crispy but that's personal preference. Confit chicken Marsala 4.25/5: really good! Crispy chicken skin, juicy, flavorful. After almost 7 years and too many visits to count, it's time to update my Yelp review for the famous Forno, one of the most popular restaurants in the Short North. And, I'm pleased to share that over the years they have earned another star in my honest opinion. Here's why! While making a reservation is almost always a must, it's easy to do online. However, you may get lucky and find a spot at the bar if you randomly pop in. That's always a really great time. There's televisions, the staff is attentive and fun, you can kinda see into the kitchen, and there's cool mood lighting. But, if getting a table is more your style, they have plenty of seating options. I like being on the side that faces Buttles because of all the natural light and people watching. I don't think the menu has changed very much. I normally come for brunch with my girlfriends or happy hour. Brunch is very meat heavy unless you enjoy sweet options like French toast, there's two options of those available. I usually get their avocado toast, which is really good. Bread, avocado, creamy goat cheese, tomatoes and pickled shallots. Yum! As for happy hour (M-F, 4-6pm), they have half priced food items and drinks. You can't go wrong with the arancini or any one of their pizzas. I always grab a glass of wine but they have cocktail and beer options as well. I almost always get a caesar salad too. If you're full sending your experience, you have to get an order of their spiked strawberries. They won't get you buzzed but they come with whipped cream on top and everybody loves them. So, what have we learned over the last 7ish years? They are consistent when it comes to their delicious food and friendly service. Always make a reservation unless you're randomly popping in.
