Martini, Japanese Cheesecake, and Dubai Chocolate Cheesecake

The vibes are excellent! This is a great rooftop restaurant and the food is amazing. They have a great sushi selection. The drink menu is extensive and they have many great selections. Our only issue was that we ordered martinis and unfortunately they mixed up vodka and gin twice so we had to send our drinks back and have them remade. Otherwise it's great food, great drinks, and fun vibes!

I attended a day party at Mandrake and was blown away by the décor. It's a gorgeous, airy venue with stunning views of downtown Columbus, definitely IG worthy. Even with several reserved sections, we were able to find seating on the balcony. We were told there wouldn't be a dedicated server for our area, but that any server could take our order. With the crowd, it took a while to flag someone down. A special brunch menu was provided for the party, and everything looked great. I ordered the smashburger with pommes. While the food came out quickly, my dish wasn't hot. The pommes were cold and bland (I couldn't even taste salt), and the burger itself was dry. The aioli lacked flavor, and the bacon was wilted. I ended up asking for mayo, ketchup, or mustard to help with the taste. My friend ordered the brunch hash with tater tots, pork belly, a fried egg, and sauce, which she really enjoyed. I sampled it, and everything was hot and flavorful, definitely a better dish. I'm not sure if this open service structure is typical during large special events, but I'd suggest assigning 3-4 servers per section. That would make service more efficient for guests and prevent servers from being stretched in too many directions. The menu did note a 20% gratuity and 2.9% credit card service fee, and our main server was good about reminding guests of the automatic gratuity when cashing out, which I appreciated. I also checked out Mandrake's regular menu and would love to come back for a normal visit. I think both the food and service would be better outside of such a busy, specialty event.

Amazing views, great staff and yummy snacks! They have ample bars? Clean bathrooms and delicious blueberry ketchup.

Mandrake Rooftop is located up top Moxy hotel on the 10th floor. Beautiful views of Columbus. First let me say I have mixed reviews of Mandrake and wanted to love it. It was my first time up here along with my group of girlfriends. We booked a table in advance and came dressed to impress unlike some others around us. A dress code was posted on the website so we were shocked people even got in wearing some of the things we saw. The service felt rushed and bothered. The food was expensive and underwhelming. The drinks didn't even taste like there was a full pour of alcohol in them. I will say that the whipped feta was a must and I enjoyed the filet. I will not be back and would definitely not recommend coming more than once just to experience it. I will leave it to other people to make their own judgements themselves but you won't catch me here again.

Came here for my birthday and had such a great time! The rooftop is beautiful chic but still cozy, with that perfect indoor/outdoor blend. Definitely an upscale vibe but not stuffy. We started with appetizers (calamari, pomme frites with blueberry catsup + garlic aioli, and a wagyu sushi roll) and they were all amazing. The calamari was fried perfectly, super crunchy and fresh, and the sushi was flavorful and delicious. Even the blueberry catsup was a fun twist on fries. For mains we tried the lamb & beef kebabs and chicken thigh, both with turmeric rice and greens. They were fine, but not as exciting as the starters. The kebabs were more of a sausage roll style (not chunks of meat like I expected), and the chicken came sliced more like a breast. The rice was also a little soft. Drinks were good (though my husband didn't love his), and the service was honestly wonderful, our waitress was super sweet and all the staff were quick and attentive. One thing to note: later reservations have a time limit, which at first I found odd, but it makes sense because after dinner the place shifts into more of a nightlife vibe, fancier than a bar, more vibey than a lounge. Overall, a gorgeous spot with great service, fun food twists, and a lively vibe. Perfect for celebrating something special!

I've been here a few times and every time the atmosphere and food are bomb! I recommend the Tequila Clearly if you are a tequila drinker or their espresso martini is a fave! Staff is always nice and attentive. This is a good spot for a girl dinner or hangout.

They have a wide range of drinks, including seasonal ones like their Pumpkin Spice and Not So Nice, which was a slightly sweet and very smooth drink, as well as signature mocktails like their Pretty in Pink, which was very refreshing. I was sad they were out of graham crackers for the graham cracker crust on their Pumpkin spice cocktail but they adjusted and still were able to do a sugar rim. Their menu was extensive with everything from sushi to steak. They had a good mix of American items as well as Asian and Middle Eastern fusion dishes. The pomme frites were really good- fried were crispy, zaatar spice added a great flavor and the blueberry catsup was sweet but surprisingly tasty and paired well with the garlic aioli. The tuna with crispy rice was flavorful and the pieces of jalapeño helped to cut down on the heaviness. The steak was super tender- cooked perfectly and paired with potatoes and fried onions. I liked how the creamy sauce came on the bottom so it wasn't drenching the steak as well. For dessert, we had the paradise which was a vanilla bean cake with roasted coconut mousse and the French mocha roll. Both were good but I especially like how the mocha roll was not too sweet and had such a great texture. Service was phenomenal and our server made sure we felt welcome and comfortable. Keep in mind that you do have to pay for garage parking, which is the case for most places in short north. They had such a great view of downtown and with the weather getting warmer, I definitely want to be back for outdoor dining!

We went during Happy Hour on PURPOSE in order to avoid the crowds and folks just meandering around just to "be seen," or to take a couple of Instagram photos. Everything here is ON POINT! For Columbus, OH I got serious LA VIBES outta this place with the ambiance, grass walls, and music. The service was fabulous as the waitress and host were very accommodating and attentive. The drinks were stellar and the appetizers and entrees were EXQUISITE! What shrimp appetizers during happy hour do you know where they give you close to 30 shrimp cooked to perfection? The views were awesome and couldn't be beat as well. We even had our kiddo with us and he loved it and got treated great as well! Great experience and we'll definitely be back but before they get jumpin jumpin in there. ;)

Such a great vibe! We loved it here! There was something to see no matter where you look. I tried to get a picture of the unique seats in the bar area but it didn't really translate well. The rooftop was gorgeous as was the view. We had already eaten, so we just came for a cocktail. The service was fantastic as well. This spot is a must if you enjoy rooftops!

Had such a wonderful experience at Mandrake last night with my boyfriend. Even the outside of the elevator is beautiful, and when we arrived on the 10th floor we had some great views. Warmly greeted when we arrived, and shown to our table with cushy seats overlooking the city- just lovely. Our waitress was so attentive and went over the menu with us thoroughly, giving us her recommendations, most of which we took and really loved. She even allowed me to try a couple wines before I made my decision. We got a couple cocktails, trying the Trix are for Kids and High Fashion. I loved them both, but High Fashion was the winner for me, just a touch of sweetness. I was happy to see how many gf options there were, and glad to hear about the organic and fresh the ingredients are at the Mandrake. So excited to try the bang bang shrimp, something I rarely get to have because of my gluten intolerance. It was crunchy yet tender and just the right amount of kick. Our least favorite part of the meal was the corn small plate, something about it just was off, wouldn't get it again. We both decided to go with sushi, getting the Rock and Roll and North High rolls. They were delicious, and again gluten free! Super filling rolls, we couldn't finish. The prices are a bit high, but for a nice night out, it was a great experience. More of a clubby feel, and when we left at 830 it was getting busy. But we were treating super wonderfully, all the staff was friendly and attentive, I definitely recommend for a nice evening out.

Great views of the city of Columbus, healthier food options - very elevated. There is a dress code so check the website before heading up.

Their visual chart is a…read moregodsend for cocktail explorers, and all of the drinks came out delicious and exactly as described. It's so creative, and the drinks are really the stellar stand out here. However, the atmosphere of those drinks is what gives me pause when thinking about coming back. The limited table situation, tiny cramped space, and loud music means that it doesn't feel particularly relaxing. People are constantly brushing up against you (even at 5PM), and holding a conversation at a normal distance is nearly impossible. NOTE: This place is covered in dust. No shade to the ownership as it doesn't appear to be anywhere near food prep areas (it's on the decor, on/around shelving, all over the faux plants, etc.), but if you're someone who's sensitive to dust, this is probably not a good fit. PROS: -I loooooooove how they've done their drink menu. As someone who is still exploring the potential of cocktails, their nerdy "chart" that places all of their drinks on a sweet/bitter and alcohol-forward/approachable visual chart is SUCH a help. As such, everything I ordered was absolutely amazing for me. I knew exactly what to expect from a drink because of its position on the chart, and it delivered. -Their drinks are really unique. Aqua faba? Fat washed alcohols? Lollipops or toasted marshmallows as garnishes? Super cool. Don't let some of the weirder descriptions creep you out of trying them. -All of their drinks were delicious. Everything I ordered was exactly as described. I often go places where the taste is barely related to its namesake, but they were entirely on-point here. CONS: -I'm not sure if someone called off that night as other reviewers are in love with the service, but our service was really really slow. No real rapport with the staff; just stating the name of a drink as they rushed past and then they were off to try to clean a table or take someone else's order. The drinks they made were great, but this isn't somewhere we'd go if we were in a hurry. -The pictures do not accurately convey how small this place is. Like, it's small. I'd guess less than 1000 square feet. My apartment is bigger by a lot. This isn't necessarily an issue, but it means people pile up quickly as they wait for seating (there's like 4/5 tables and then bar seating). The human walkways are small enough that the bartenders and other guests will brush against you a lot - even while seated. -I get the vibe they were going for here, but with the smaller space, I think a lot of the potential decor options had to "go" in order to fit more humans. It's giving me hardcore The Hearth Room (in Cincinnati) vibes, and I think it could honestly pull it off if it simply had more space. The "relaxed, sophisticated bourbon bar" doesn't quite come through as well when things are so focused on simply fitting in more bodies. -It's loud AF. Like, really, really loud. Between all the people and the blasting pop music, it required leaning into someone's ear in order to speak at normal volumes. We'd regularly have to pause the conversation if something in the music was building to a drop. This is not a place I'd take someone I wasn't very very comfortable with because it really requires being in someone's space to talk. -There's a single all-gender toilet here for everyone in the establishment. It's basically a revolving door of people in and out of it. The door auto-closes, however, so it's really difficult to figure out if it's open or not. There was usually a queue of people waiting in front of the door.

My Husband and I randomly stumbled upon this place walking to Chapman's one night after we were JUST talking to a buddy about how Columbus didn't have any "great" Wine Bars. You can sit at a high top table, blue velvet couches for a more laid back option or the bar if you come alone or with a friend! The second best part about this place is you can order of a menu of curated pre picked wines and crafted cocktails or pop into the wine shop connected to it called Hausfrau Haven. You can buy a bottle there and open at The Laundry and split it with friends or your partner which I LOVE! You could even do your own little wine tasting too if you'd like! Lastly if you need a snack to drink more wine they have great little apps like nuts, cheese and a few more rotting options!! *My only complaint is I wish there was a water station or could get a glass of water. Cocktail vibe is more "laid-back friends talking over creative drinks" than sultry, romantic date spot. Tons of natural light means this cocktail bar has had some of my *favorite* cocktail bar photos I've ever taken. It's so pretty in here. NOTES: -During pop-ups, walk-ins are near-impossible on weekends and not likely on weekdays. Make a reservation if you want to make sure you'll have a spot. -No dedicated parking lot. 3-hour-limit free residential parking all around Law Bird, though. We generally have to walk 2 or 3 blocks from parking to Law Bird. Be aware this is German Village, and you're looking at cobblestone sidewalks for high heel and accessibility purposes. -Law Bird mostly has small party seating. If you have a larger group you want to seat during a pop-up, make SURE to get that reservation in early. They have the single 8-person table. -They have snackies and food. Portion sizes are small (despite what the prices may suggest), though, so this is not generally a place to eat a full meal. All of the food is super flavorful, though, so definitely a great snack to add on. PROS: -Keeping things fresh, they regularly host cute seasonal events, new drinks, and pop-up events. In recent memory, I know they've done a Cherry Blossom one, a Spooky Halloween one, and a Christmas one. -They go ALL OUT for their pop-ups. It isn't just a brand new, professionally-printed menu (no pieces of paper with 4 seasonal drinks here). It's also all of their interior decor, bathroom decorations, bartop decorations, and more. Ceiling decor too! They get all up in there. It's really fun to see the space transformed constantly. -Between the new menus and the constantly-new decorations of their space, I love regularly popping into Law Bird. -I LOVE the creativity of the menus, and I LOVE that they offer cocktail classes. (I haven't taken one yet, but I'm excited to!) The menu has unique drinks, served with unique garnishes. They have a few "sugar cocktails", but for the most part, Law Bird drinks tend to be complex and spirit-forward. -Their "themed" bathrooms (even with their own themed music playlists) make me happy. They have two unisex, single room restrooms. CONS: -If you come during a pop-up with a smaller group, they will enforce their reservation time limit of 1.5 hours. This isn't necessarily the end of the world, but the times when they enforce their limits is when they have more customers waiting - and tend to be when the place is at capacity. When they're at-capacity, the bar staff and service staff is a lot busier, with drink service taking longer and servers checking in a lot less. This means we usually only have had the chance to place 2 drink orders during that 1.5 hour time limit before they ask us to leave. This can be rough (to try most of the drinks on a limited time menu) unless you're sharing drinks with your tablemates. If you still want to continue your evening with your friends after that 1.5 hour limit, Antiques on High, Daily Growler, and Cobra are easily walkable from here. -During their pop-ups on weekends, time between placing a drink order and receiving the drink has usually been around 15 to 20 minutes. Not the end of the world as you get to socialize with friends, but again, with the time limit, that can be a bit rough.

That being said, upon opening the door we were told we couldn't come in without masks. Mine was in my pocket, no problem. I haven't left my home (in Tennessee) often enough since the beginning of the virus for it to become habit to automatically put on a mask when I get out of my vehicle. But 9/10 times I remember before entering a public place. The male bartender just seemed rude in the way he told us to put one one. I had read the raving reviews, and being a Yelp Elite myself I know I can and do trust their reviews above others. So....I was really looking forward to trying something new and enjoy watching a bartender do their thing. The bartender pointed to two framed menus on top of a cooler containing seltzer's and canned drinks, and some glass bottles of pre-made cocktails, I think. I would've appreciated the bartender ask me what I liked, and help me decide, but it was easier for him to point to the sign. Customer service absolutely sucked hippo balls. I asked if I could just order a Knob Creek and Coke in a short glass, and a Blanton's for my hubs. Sure!! What I got was a shot of each in a to-go plastic condiment container with a lid, and two big paper go cups (like Burger King) of ice, and a can of Coke, which I told him never mind I had a soda in the truck. We also got two bags of Cheeto's, to make the sale legal. So....we poured our bourbons over the ice in the paper cups. I drank a few sips of mine, yum, even in paper. My husband was just about to take a sip and noticed something stuck in his ice that looked just like a maggot. He walked back across the street and told/showed the bartender, who vehemently denied it came from the ice because it was a brand new bag. Then I noticed 3 of the maggot looking things in my ice, so I went back in and showed my husband and then the bartender. He told my husband it was probably from the citrus he was cutting on a board near the ice bin. They were frozen INSIDE the ice cubes. I'm upset with myself that I didn't take a picture of it, it was gross. I'm upset that a bartender would try to make it seem like it was nothing. After seeing it all in my ice my husband just asked for our money back, and the bartender said, "But I've already poured another." Ummm, sorry, but no thank you. He did give the refund, but I most assuredly won't give them a second chance when I visit Columbus.
