Lunch special country green beans with beef (a special order)
Peter M.

There is something to be said about a mom and pop establishment that has survived, for over several decades, through thick and thin times. Mandarin King, is a Chinese restaurant in Northridge, that is one of those eateries. It has a huge menu, enveloping numerous dining categories, to satisfy any Asian taste. The choices are endless, the portions are large. While the interior dining room is not decadent, it is well appointed with Chinese decor, to make you feel invited and comfortable. Food portions are large and delicious. Mandarin King has a loyal clientele (dine in and carry out) that has been coming here for years. I am one of those customers. While I have tried several of their numerous dishes, none of them have disappointed. However, I have repeatedly ordered (to go) their fish with black bean sauce. Another of my favorites is their Mongolian Beef. Their rendition of this dish is attractive to me due to its abundance of onions (scallions, white) and the tender slices of beef with a mild but satisfying flavored sauce. So it was once again, the choice for this take out visit. It lived up to its reputation. On this occasion, the lunch special with fried rice and an egg roll. Both lovely too. Service here is dependable, always warm, welcoming, courteous and timely.

Still love this place. If you get takeout it's packed very nicely Dined in today and service was till good, portions tasty and a decent size and quality for the price I love the beef teriyaki and the wonton soup The soup is just a tasty broth and very nice filled wontons that have great flavor to them. I should have consulted my review so we tried something different - we got moo goo gai pan again today In my takeout order we got mooshi which was tasty .

My mom wanted crab with bean sauce but they did not have it. You have to order it in advance a few days before. Service was cool and the atmosphere was ok. They need to update furniture and rugs. It's outdated. Parking is easy in the lot adjacent to the restaurants. The food was very flavorful and the quality of what we ordered had nice big quantities. Prices are affordable for all the food you get.

Love this almond cookie that comes with my lunch special! I got the shrimp with white wine sauce. My favorite!

My favorite take out. Get the shrimp with white wine sauce. It's $15.95 and so good! This place is OLD school vintage vibe$ Dine in if you have the time. Love their homemade almond cookie that comes with lunch take out!

This isn't the fanciest place around but it's reliable , large portions and good. We had the beef and broccoli which had large chunks of beef. We also ordered beef fried rice and egg drop soup.. Food was good all around- no complaints with anything we tried. Service was extremely fast. Once we had our orders in , food came out very quickly. The quality of everything was pretty solid, and serving sizes were large. The prices here are very reasonable .

Does MK have any low sodium dishes?

Yes, I've had many of their dishes with garlic sauce, light salt or even steamed! Not everything is soy sauce based. Just let the server know! Hope you give it a shot and enjoy!

Baja Beach Tacos, formerly known as Lola's Tacos, is one of the best places in town for authentic…read moreBaja-style tacos. Whether you're in the mood for shrimp, fish, lobster, or a fresh ceviche platter, you really can't go wrong. The taste and quality of the food are consistently superb. We usually order the shrimp and fish tacos with all the ingredients they come with, and they never disappoint. Their white sauce is exceptional, and I especially like that you can choose your spice level--regular, mild, or spicy. Whatever your preference, the flavor and heat are just right. The ceviche is another favorite. Whether you order shrimp or fish ceviche, it's especially refreshing on a warm summer day. The balance of lemon and seasoning is just right, and the portions are generous and beautifully prepared. And let's not forget about the atmosphere and the staff. They have always been professional, attentive, and pleasant. The owners clearly take pride in their restaurant, and I believe the main cook has helped maintain the same great taste and quality that this place was known for under its previous ownership. I've tried Baja-style tacos at many different places, but this one continues to stand out for me because of the quality, flavor, and consistency. I would definitely recommend Baja Beach Tacos to anyone looking for delicious Baja-style food. But don't just take my word for it--go check it out for yourself. You won't be disappointed!

Extremely disappointed with the food . . . I used to eat at this location when it was Lola's Tacos…read more The food at Lola's Tacos was so delicious and the portions were very large. I haven't been there since they changed owners and decided to give it a try. Apparently, the chef and the waitresses are the same so I was thinking the food would be the same as before. This time when I went, I ordered the chicken taco and shrimp taco. The chicken taco was cold and contained small pieces of dark meat thrown into a taco. Usually tacos use shredded or stewed chicken so this was not the norm for me. The minute I bit into it, I could taste the chicken was old and gamey. I bit into a large piece of grissle from the bone and almost threw up. I took one bite of the shrimp taco and could not identify the flavor. It definitely wasn't cilantro, but some other kind of herb I didn't recognize. I ended up throwing it away. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately, I will never go back. I'm sorry, but I cannot recommend this place

First Visit -- Disappointing Experience…read more We came in last night to celebrate my daughter's birthday, and unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived--there was only one other party of two. Our party of 10 was the largest group there, yet the service was still very slow and disorganized. I ordered six seafood platters, and I was honestly surprised by the portion sizes. When I hear "seafood platter," I expect something substantial, especially based on my experience at other seafood restaurants. Here, each platter was served on a large oval plate but contained just about enough food for one person. Each platter was supposed to come with rice or fries, but our side dishes did not arrive until we were more than halfway through our meal. I also had to remind the waiters twice about a refill of water for our pitcher after I had already requested it. The temperature inside was another major issue. The restaurant felt extremely hot and uncomfortable. There were only two industrial fans blowing air toward the middle of the room rather than toward the patrons, leaving our entire party sweating in the corner. The bathroom was even worse--it felt like a sauna with little to no air circulation. The service continued to be poorly timed throughout the meal. We were already about two-thirds finished eating before the buckets that are typically provided at the beginning of a seafood meal were brought to the table. These buckets are intended for trash and shells, so by the time they arrived, we had already been managing our shells and waste without them. Then came the bill. A 2.5% surcharge was added to our check. This was not listed anywhere that I saw on the restaurant's website, and it was never mentioned by the waitstaff. I only noticed it when reviewing the receipt. The digital receipt states: "to maintain our food quality and to improve services a 2.5% surcharge will be added to every check." I found that explanation particularly frustrating. Why should customers be charged an additional percentage specifically to fund improvements to the restaurant's food quality and service? Those are things I would expect to be included in the prices already being charged. There was also a discrepancy with the large-party gratuity. The restaurant's website states that an 18% gratuity is added for parties of six or more, yet I was charged 20%. I took a timestamped screenshot of the website showing the 18% policy and have attached it along with a copy of my receipt so customers can see the discrepancy for themselves. Finally, they were unable to print a receipt. The waiter had to figure out how to send the receipt to me by text. This was our first visit, and unfortunately, it will be our last. We came in hoping to celebrate my daughter's birthday and enjoy a nice meal together. Instead, we experienced inadequate portions, delayed side dishes, repeated requests for basic service, an uncomfortably hot dining room, poorly timed table service, an undisclosed surcharge, and a gratuity discrepancy between the website and our actual bill. I always try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt, especially when visiting for the first time. But with a party of 10 and a bill reflecting both a 2.5% surcharge and 20% gratuity, I expected a much higher level of service and transparency. I would strongly recommend reviewing your bill carefully and comparing it with the restaurant's posted policies before paying.
