I'm at that in between three or four star rating.... First off, this place has NO window. Odd when we were walking in and noticed none. The lady at the front desk was on the phone taking an order so we waited a bit for a table. Once seated, which this place is outdated and could really use a major sprucing up. There were people so that normally means a good sign. Menu did have a good selection of dishes which is a plus. Service was kind of slow but in their defense, there was only two waiter working. Double duty for them. Our waiter was quite friendly, even being busy he still checked up on us to make sure that we were good. Food was good, potion wise was plentiful. Price was reasonable as well. Like mentioned, it's a bit outdated. Portion wise is good, price is good. read more

Picked up takeout one time and virtually cancelled my order while waiting... was so grossed out my the grimy bench area, carpet, host stand. Sure it's an older style restaurant that hasn't been updated, but dirty -- not what I want from a food establishment. And the food was not good either. Love trying new places with my partner. This is one we'll definitely keep going to. The food was amazing. Flavorful, not oily or dry, and one of the best fried rice and orange chicken aka tangerine chicken, I've EVER had. My partner favored the noodles over the rice, but everything amazing. The dumplings were packed with pork, just wished it was fully fried. ALL sauces given with each plate 11/10. Also, they do have drinks, they're just not on the menu so you'll have to ask about that. The location is so quiet and unique, obsessed with the mirrors and vintage look. I personally love places that are not loud or packed so this place was 20/10 in my book. My wife and I found this place in the late 90s, and we have been going to it ever since. What I like about this restaurant is that their portions of food are awesome. They give you large portions. My family has been eating at Mandarin King for a while. We ordered take out when I came for a visit a couple of weeks ago. I got chicken curry. Also odered was chow mein noodles, sweet and sour pork, tangerine chicken, jalapeno chicken, and some eggrolls. I had my curry and a couple of eggrolls. The curry was good. Not spicy and not overly pungent. And the chicken was tender. The eggrolls were definitely the best part. Super crispy and not too oily. They were stuffed well and generously. As for the other food we ordered, I did not try most any of it but my Grandma complained that the pork was not cut small enough in her sweet and sour pork. And my cousin said her tangerine chicken did not have much flavor. The sauce was underneath and she didn't mix it well. I tried a piece of chicken with sauce and it was fine. More sweet than I expected but it definitely had flavor. To finish the meal we were given both fortune cookies and almost cookies. And I am talking real almond cookies with a piece of almond on top. Lunch was a success here, the place was packed at 1:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon, with two private parties going on. The tea was great and the wide noodles for the soup like yummy potato chips were a real treat, it's been years since I went to a Chinese restaurant that had that brand. I had the Walnut Shrimp, which was good, the price was definitely right and my friend had the Kung Pao Chicken. They even had the lunch special on weekends too, which included soup and egg rolls with your dish. I wish we had an old fashioned style Mandarin restaurant like this in Orange County. This was definitely a very popular old world Chinese restaurant. It was easy to see that most of the tables were filled with Asian families who must have been regulars ordering lots of food. The taste of everything and pricing are excellent, but the atmosphere could use a revamp, and that is why I didn't give it 5 *'s, because without any windows, updated upholstery on the booths, new carpeting, it was just good. read more

To be honest this place used to be better a few years back . Now is not even average. Food is really basic not like it used to be . Back then it was made with care and the flavors were unique . Now is juts rush out of the kitchen .. they always have only one server . It most if the time the server takes too long to maintain his tables properly serve . They are under staff most likely . But the worst thing of all is the cashier that I believe is related to the owner . She is always mad . Giving bad attitude and rushing people out . You're not even done eating and she is already passing the ticket for you to pay . Fire her and maybe the restaurant could be a bit better . We were about to order a lot of food for them- thankfully, our very experienced and friendly server (gentleman, middle-aged adult with brown hair) spent time with us to explain how big the portions were and why we would be overspending and left with too many leftovers. Everything was set to pick up at a specific time and we were good to go. The lady in the front was constantly on the phone taking orders and the guy was constantly checking for new orders and taking payment. Once it got to my turn I told the guy I was here for a to go pick up. He asked for the name and even the phone number. He seemed to not be able to find the order as ready on their table. I assumed the order hasn't been fulfilled and didn't mind since the food will be hot when it becomes ready. I stepped outside for a bit and the guy came out asking if my name was *Japanese last name* and I told him no. I did asked him one more time if he meant *my Japanese last name* and he said no. Some more time passed and he asked for the name one more time. I showed him an email confirmation of the order and he seemed frustrated with me and the situation, telling me "I should have told him it was an online order and given him the first name". I was confused because initially I gave him the first, last name and the phone number for this order. I felt a bit attacked with the lack of his interpersonal communication skills and I don't understand why I felt that I had to explain that I didn't know the difference between online and phone order and that it was my first time there. After him telling me what I should have done, he told me the order has been ready and just sitting there for practically the entire time I was there allegedly waiting for the order to become ready. I'm very disappointed from this restaurant . Ordered bunch of food including 2 large wonton shrimp chicken soup , it was missing 1 large soup . Called the restaurant employee picked up I complained that I'm missing one large soup $12 value he said the owner will call you back & we will deliver it to you . Guess what ? The owner didn't care calling me back or delivered the second large soup , I called again this time they said we're busy didn't even care . I spent $120 for the order . The owners, Jerry and James are brothers. I know that they don't look at reviews but I still want everyone to know that Jerry is a very warm hearted person who likes to please his customers. Service is good and price is right. Lots of people go there for take out because the ambience is not modern and maybe not a place to take your date. They have a room that accommodates 80 people.
