Beef lomein ( left) and 58. Kung Pao Chicken 58. 宫保雞丁 ( right)

My boyfriend and I were craving some good Chinese food nearby, and Mandarin Island was one of the options that came up. I'm a bit surprised at all the low ratings but, I'm happy I decided to give this small business a try. I placed an order online through their website, and placed an order for pick up. The pick up time was 45 mins, which was a bit high, but we were okay with that because we ordered early enough, and the food was worth the wait. Once we arrived, we found parking in the back, so I entered from there, mentioned my name, picked it up, and went home to enjoy it. The place itself looked a bit dated but was a cute little restaurant. I wouldn't mind eating inside the next time around. We ordered the cheese rangoon for our appetizer, I got the beef lomein for myself, and my boyfriend got the Kung Pao Chicken. It came with rice which was nice. The total was $45 with taxes, which was reasonable given the potion size and quality. It took us two days to finish it. All the food was flavorful, fresh, and delicious. I will definitely be ordering from here again!

Walnut Shrimp

I lived in North Hills for almost 8 years. I had to move out and come back like five years later to finally try this place. Im on a honey walnut craze at the moment. I called here before i arrive to make sure they do have some. They served hot water with some fried wonton chips as my appitizer while i wait for my food. While the walnut shrimp was nothing to brag about but not a total let down either. It was nice and my only complain is the parking. There's parking in the back if it's not too crowded.

Ordered to go for this place and I got the one entree combo with fried rice, chow mein and an egg roll for $20.99 - I chose the mandarin chicken and tbh the quantity was good, it was a lot of food. I really enjoyed the mandarin chicken but I wasn't big into the fried rice, chowmein nor egg roll. It was made fresh like everything was hot when it came in but the flavor just was not there for me. I ordered the chicken in creamy corn soup but the more I had it, the more my stomach wasn't agreeing to it. I ordered the creamcheese wonton and that one I really enjoyed with the sweet and sour sauce. I'm not sure if I ordered the right things but if there's anyone who has other recommendations for this place I am open. I feel like it has potential since everything is made fresh but maybe I just ordered the wrong things ?

In the SFV, it is imperative that we search, discover and patronize small business restaurants. In this context, my homework led me, for the first time, to Mandarin Island, a Chinese restaurant in Mission Hills. After arriving here, I ordered for carry out, the Mongolian Beef Lunch Special to be made spicy (that did not happen). Just some hot sauce was added to my package. It came with an egg roll (good) and a salad (just lettuce, no dressing). The inside of the restaurant is simple, but nicely and neatly decorated. The lady taking the order was crabby, but the server was friendly and helpful. I chose fried rice instead of steamed white rice and it was appetizing. This is the first Mongolian Beef I have had with bamboo shoots (not my favorite). It was loaded with scallions, like it should be (my favorite). The beef, which should have been the star of the show, was chewy, that too and surprisingly on every bite. But the overall dish had flavor, even though it was mild, in addition to an unassuming but acceptable taste. Not a bad find after all. Parking is difficult. I managed to find a spot behind the restaurant.

Dry egg foo young

I tried the egg foo young and it was the dry-est, grossest egg foo young I've ever seen. It's really incredible a restaurant would serve something so awful.

Beef chow fun

This restaurant is consistently good. Service is friendly and attentive. All the dishes we've ever had contained fresh ingredients. Our favorites include sweet and sour chicken, wonton soup, chow fun, Yang Chow fried rice, Mongolian beef, Crispy spicy beef, sautéed fish filet, just to name a few. Plus they deliver if you live nearby.

Calamari Squid

Ahh, Been eating from here a long long time. Was in the area yesterday, and we ordered food from Mandarin Island. They have a huge menu of foods for a Chinese restaurant. I ordered 2 Chicken fried rices with extra chicken inside both, and 1 plate of Calamari Squid. Its delicious with black pepper, and colorful onions. Service is good, I tipped my delivery drivery well. They take about 1 hour for delivery. That all depends how much you have being delivered.

The food was amazing but I didn't like the fact that they added a 15% tip when I ordered the food to be picked up online

Comparing it to drunken, the actual seasoning isn't visible but the taste is there. 2. All servers were quick and happy to great you. Any questions about the menu were easily answered. 3. Ambiance is great. Plenty of seating with tvs by the bar to watch games. There were families with infants who had plenty of space for strollers and high chairs. Perks: plenty of appetizers to choose from. The ice cream and fried Oreo at the end was delicious. The hand washing station is a plus. I would've taken a pic of the food but I forgot, too busy eating. 10/10 recommend

I really love coming to eat here! The service is always great, even when they are short staffed…read more It's so much better than some of the bigger seafood boil restaurants. We started off with some oysters which are $2.50 each and wow, they were huge and fresh! So delicious, they weren't stingy with the limes either. We also got the shrimp lovers combo, which is a pound of shrimp, clams and mussels + 2 corn, 4 potatoes and 8 sausage. So yummy and totally worth the price! It was rough for two people to share on my opinion. They also give you little fried Oreo with ice cream at the end of your meal. So delicious! The place itself it super family friendly but they do have a bar area and happy hour drinks during the week. I'd definitely recommend!

I can't believe I've lived in Sylmar for almost 6 years and somehow never noticed this little gem!…read more From the moment you walk in, it feels like you've escaped to a little beach town in Mexico. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and exactly where you want to be on a hot summer day. The seafood was incredibly fresh and refreshing. I ordered the campechana kora, and my husband had the Aguachiles, both were absolutely delicious and perfect for the heat. What really made the experience special was the staff. They were so kind, patient, and welcoming. My husband has been practicing his Spanish, and instead of making him feel self-conscious, they were incredibly encouraging and sweet with him. It made the whole meal feel even more authentic and enjoyable. Great food, wonderful service, and an atmosphere that makes you forget you're just minutes from home. I can't believe it took me this long to find Ceviches, but it definitely won't be six years before my next visit!

I was looking for highly rated seafood restaurants on Yelp, and this restaurant was on the list…read more After reading the reviews, I got excited to give it a try. Parking was easy to find, which was a plus. The ambiance was casual, relaxed, and family-friendly. They have multiple TVs throughout the restaurant, and during my visit, they were showing a soccer game. I always like it when a restaurant broadcasts sporting events, even if it means the place sometimes gets very packed. I was really looking forward to trying their shrimp ceviche, but to my disappointment, they had run out by the time I arrived. I decided to go with my backup option instead: the camarones a la diabla. Camarones a la diabla is a dish consisting of shrimp cooked in a spicy red chile sauce. This restaurant also serves it with rice, toast, and a side of vegetables. As the name suggests, the shrimp are supposed to be spicy. As a spice enthusiast, I'm always on the lookout for the best spicy dishes. The shrimp were cooked well, but they had a sweet taste. It almost seemed as if they had used ketchup in the sauce to tone down the heat. I'm honestly not a fan of mixing sweet with spicy, at least when it comes to protein. The vegetables that came with the dish were soggy and flavorless. The rice was okay but could have been better. The toast was pretty good, it was buttery, garlicky, and crispy. Overall, this dish wasn't bad, but it also wasn't the best. The service during my visit was good. My server was attentive and helpful. He frequently stopped by to check if everything was okay. Overall, this experience didn't turn out exactly as I had expected, but it wasn't a bad experience by any means. I might return one day to try their shrimp ceviche.
