We were in Solvang and were craving Asian food. This restaurant was one of the only Asian places in the area. We decided to take a bet and try it out and was pleasantly surprised by how authentic and great the food tasted. We ordered mapo tofu medium spice and beef stir fry with onions. All entrees came with white rice. Rice was cooked well. Mapo tofu had bit of mala spice and it was so good! It had good salty, spicy flavor that I liked. It also came with pork and you can choose to put meat on it or not. The beef stir fry had really good flavor and matched well with rice. We ended up finishing everything and we were very content with our dinner. The service was great, and the food came very fast. There was actually only one other guest party other than us. We assume it's because it's weekday and not many people are in the area. I hope more people check this place out. The only thing is the price is overpriced for the food but food quality and authenticity is very good! read more

The food was pretty good for being the only Chinese restaurant in all of Santa Ynez Valley (if you don't count Panda Express). The PoPo Platter (aka PuPu Platter) had the paper wrapped chicken replaced by beef skewers. The Egg Drop Soup we ordered included seaweed was the small order, and it can feed 5 easily. Water Boiled Fish was one of a few Sichuanese offerings on the menu, and it looked and tasted close to the authentic version. Of course, I had to have my Kung Pao Chicken. And we rounded out the meal with Assorted Pan Fried Noodles. Enjoyed having the meal here as a service was very good as well. Friday, 12-20-2024: We were so impressed with the food here three years ago we knew we had to come back here for a late lunch. The last time we were here was during the pandemic and they were only taking orders to go from their front door. Today we stepped in and were surprised at how spacious it is. We were greeted so nicely by the sweet, young lady, who directed us to a booth. She took our drink orders of iced teas with lemon. We glanced at the lunch specials. We're creatures of habit and I chose Cashew Chicken and hubby wanted Orange Chicken. We both opted for egg flower drop soup and given two veggie egg rolls. We told our server that we loved the food here and remembered how good it was those years ago. She was very thankful. We enjoyed the tasty egg drop soup. The rest of the food came out quickly. It was so aromatic that we knew we were in for a treat. The Cashew Chicken and Orange Chicken were as delicious as we remembered. So happy we decided to return. They definitely did not disappoint. Later, the owner came by to ask how we liked the food. We told him we had visited three years ago when it was COVID time and they were only taking orders to go. We said we loved how memorable & delicious their food was that we wanted to eat here before returning home. He asked where home was & told him Temecula. He was so sweet that he gave us a $5.00 discount. We were pleasantly surprised & grateful. The exceptional food and top notch customer service will have us return next time. Saved on Christmas Day! The owner made our Christmas this year, as we were turned away from the fancy restaurant where we had a reservation, because they wouldn't seat us with our dog, despite the heavy rain preventing any outside seating. I had called in advance to check, but they never responded. So we drove to China Panda. In the midst of nasty weather and growing pandemonium, the owner remained calm and smiling. I even heard him tell someone that they ran out of hot and sour soup (it was definitely a soup night) so they made a new batch to complete his order. He told me "we'll take care of you" - and they did. He took our to-go order and after a bit of a wait, chatting with others waiting for their food too, we had some really excellent food! My girlfriend and I went recently and had an amazing experience. I had the fried rice, beef and broccoli, and chicken sizzling rice soup, which were all amazing. My girlfriend had the Mapo tofu which she enjoyed. They had very great service as they were so kind welcoming and attentive. The food was fresh and very delicious and sauced well ! Fresh ingredients forsure ! The appearance seems dark from the outside but as soon as you step in its well lit up and the ambiance is clean and there was music as well. Very great experience ! Super slow service. Like.... Really slow. I arrived shortly after opening on a Saturday night. There were a couple of tables that were seated and somebody waiting for a to-go order. While I waited to place my order, three other tables were seated and by the time the single server had come back to take my order, I had been waiting for probably 8 or 10 minutes. I then waited another 35 minutes for my order. The staff are incredibly friendly and they continually apologize for the wait, so I'm 100% certain that they know it's an issue. But it's an issue, and I don't think I'm the first yelper to give this specific criticism. I'm also not used to paying this much money for this small of an amount of food. A $17 entree should not be as small as the portions that are put together for an order. read more

You're right I'm giving China Panda a 5! It deserves it. The old kind of Chinese restaurant where people served you. It wasn't cheap but the sweet and sour chicken had well done deep fried bits of chicken and a non-vinegary red sauce. For me, I hate red sauce that has that tanginess. Plenty of carrots onions and bell peppers were added. Yan had a shredded spicy potato dish. That made her happy. What's the ambiance? Our takeout meal from China Panda was very disappointing. This place had been highly recommended by others, but it did not come close to living up to those recommendations. When I arrived to pick up our order, there was not a single customer in the place, and only 1 employee was on hand. This was at the dinner hour on a Friday night, so that should have been a tipoff. I had ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan, but what I got was some tasteless chicken with steamed vegetables, no mushrooms, no savory sauce. In fact it closely resembled my wife's beef with vegetables, which was also devoid of any real taste. I can't account for the disconnect between the recommendations we received and our actual experience, but I can say that the quality of the food we had was far from anything we would recommend to others. read more

Traveling on the 101 North I stopped for a break and found China Panda. I'm glad I found it. The reviews looked good so I went in. It was super clean and the Chinese decor was nice. The reviews suggested the eggplant dish. It was delicious! I was in time for the lunch special so I also enjoyed the hot and sour soup and fried rice with my entree.
