We stopped in town for the first time to visit Solvang for our daughters birthday and gave her a list off of yelp to pick lunch. She chose this spot and I'm glad she did. The food, service and everything was amazing. We sat outside on the patio since we had our dog with us which was a plus. Here's what we ordered for our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) Bread Basket (Free) and warm! We dunked in on a plate of olive oil & balsamic vinegar Spaghetti carbonara (5/5) $21 Very simple pasta dish, creamy spaghetti noodles smothered in cream, eggs, and tiny bits of pancetta. This was my fav dish also the birthday girls fav too. Linguine al pesce (4/5) $25 We wanted another base so tomato based with linguine and a variety of seafoods: shrimp, salmon, clams, mussels, squid Pepperoni sausage pizza (5/5) $24 The pizza wasn't too thick or thin and had a nice helping of pepperoni and sausage on top. We got extra Parmesan on all 3 dishes and ended up gobbling it all up. And to top it off they came in with a candle and a custard cake with chocolate and caramel to make it such a sweet ending for us to sing Happy Birthday to our daughter. UPDATE (September 2026) -- 1 Star (Worse than last year): After leaving my original review, the owner left a sarcastic response telling me that "Osteria Grappolo will benefit from all your wisdom." Well, I gave his establishment the benefit of the doubt and returned a year later--and it was even worse. My girlfriend ordered the exact same dish (spaghetti with clams) hoping for improvement. Instead, my girlfriend got a pile of dry, tasteless pasta with almost no sauce and dried-out clams--even fewer than last year. My girlfriend barely touched her pasta either. So much pasta was ridiculous and tasteless. The service was as bad as last year but instead of a girl, this year was a guy and was completely indifferent. When we asked about the specials since we remembered that last year the waitress Claudia never told us about it, we asked, but instead of telling us, the waiter lazily pointed to a board far across the room, forcing my girlfriend to twist around just to read it, why couldn't he simply tell us, who knows, I guess he didn't want to talk. He never checked on us throughout the meal. When he came to take the plates away, he had so have noticed that my girlfriend barely had any pasta, yet, he asked her nothing and simply took the plate away. We ordered the $11 tiramisu hoping to salvage the night--huge mistake. It tasted terrible, clearly mass-pre-made, and was barely worth $1. We took one single bite and couldn't eat any more. When clearing our table, the waiter took away two practically full plates of pasta and an untouched tiramisu without saying a word. He never asked if anything was wrong, never offered to replace the dish, and never asked if we wanted a different dessert. Instead, he just dropped off the bill charging full price for everything we barely touched--and like idiots, we even tipped. $90 dollars literally thrown in the trash. Even if I paid $10 dollars, if the food is bad, I would have been upset. To top it off, the owner was doing the exact same routine as last year--ignoring smaller tables, making awkward jokes with larger groups, and pacing around the patio moving things around, closing the umbrellas around the tables. And interesting enough, mostly my girlfriend noticed it, not kidding either, he was wearing the same identical shirt and jeans as the year before, can't forget that shirt, what are the chances, must be his uniform, does it matter? Of course not, the bad experience, food and service is what mattered, and all failed, but funny to us nevertheless, felt like a repeat of one of the Twilight Zone episodes. His arrogant response to my first review claimed he cared about feedback, but the total lack of quality and hospitality proves otherwise. Save your time and money--go anywhere else in Solvang. To the owner, no worries, I will never come back to your restaurant, and this time trust me, I mean it, my money is as good as you and your staff need it to enjoy and survive I as well work hard for my money. read more

Stopped in for dinner while visiting Slovang. The salad here was delicious along with the complimentary bread. The pizza were order was plenty for the both of us and the Italian sausage topping very good. The dine in area nice and service was good but could of been a little more attentive. Two of our good friends took us to this Italian restaurant in Solvang. I would recommend the lasagna (which was also recommended by our waiter), the red wine sangria and definitely save room for their desserts like tiramisu and the other custard flan-like dessert. The pasta dishes pair nicely with either the pink sauce or the garlic wine sauce. They definitely don't skimp on garlic if you order the garlic toast that you can dip with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Spent Mother's Day in Solvang and stumbled upon this Italian restaurant, while looking for a place to sit right away. We requested to be seated outside as the weather was nice. The ambiance outside was gorgeous. Here's what we ordered: Cesar Salad - good just ask for the dressing on the side as it was overdressed. Mozzarella sticks - didn't have the cheese pull I was expecting, I did appreciate that it wasn't as salty as most places, however, it was more breaded than cheese. Penne with sausage and fungi - good! To be honest it was even better tasting as leftovers, as the flavor was soaked in by the pasta. Sole fish with lemon sauce - came with pasta, my husband said it was exactly, if not more, what he wanted! He would order this again. Bread - free for first serving, charge after. This place is a nice warm cozy Italian restaurant on mission drive right across other popular destinations in Solvang. There's street parking along the restaurant and a parking lot behind the restaurant. We went late on Thursday night so parking wasn't an issue, neither was getting a table. There's nice patio seating, for a romantic vibe while spots inside provide a much quieter, private, and romantic option. To start off, the service was disappointing and did not live up to the initial promise of the place. The place seemed understaff as the server was running across the restaurant. The bread basket tasted like microwaved bread and not fresh. After we requested butter, we got the cubes, about 10 mins later(on asking twice). We ordered the Penne funghi salsiccia, and it was really good, the sausage tasted great and the portions were generous. However again the service was a downside, and while we wanted to order another dish, but the server never even came to check on us and by then we decided to leave anyways. Customer service was fantastic. The gentleman sat us down in a very nice area went ahead and took our drink. Orders came back a few moments later with some bread and took our food order since it was our first time we asked him what was his recommendation. We were excited to come here for the solvang restaurant week but was only told when we got there that the deal was only from mondays to thursdays which was very disappointing since it was NOT mentioned anywhere online on their website or any other website that mentioned their restaurant week deals... However, it was convenient for us since we were staying at the hamlet inn right across the street and were craving Italian. We got the penne bolognese and the shrimp linguini (they were kind enough to let us make substitutions from the clams since I'm allergic to them) and they were fine... what's interesting is that my garlic wine wine linguini didn't taste very garlicky at all... the penne bolognese wasn't anything special either... My wife ordered the Risotto Primavera and I ended up going with the Linguine al Pesce. Both items were so delicious! I personally really enjoyed the Linguine al Pesce (clams) because it was right up my alley and I usually order this when it comes it comes to Italian restaurants. They did not disappoint! The burrata on arugula was very good, nice and cold with the right hint of salt to bring out the flavors of the burrata and the tomato. The meatball had a very nice homemade sauce and perfectly crispy garlicky bread to dip. The highlight of the meal was the $28 Sole Delfina bargain of the century! Sole is normally $60-90 whenever I've had it. I love it so I eat it whenever I can. This was buttery but not too buttery, perfectly prepared, lightly lemony and what can I say, DELIGHTFUL! Back in solvang for the end of the year. Overcrowded must I say. Coming to this Italian restaurant as my mood was gravitating to. I saw pictures of different pasta that looked good. When it arrived, I felt like it wasn't a lot for $25. I mean, I cook pasta easily at my own home and put marinara on it and you know what?, it taste the same. The other dish ordered was a linguini with clams and calamari. It smelled weird but it tasted okay. Was it amazing and special? Succulent and delicious? Nope. It was okay. The food quality was decent but the taste and texture was okay. It was a decent ambiance inside and the service was not bad. I ordered a salad too that was pretty good. Better than the pasta dish for sure. The bread? They give you the first for free, wanna refill? They charge you. Additionally a $2.00 is added for using a credit card plus tax and gratuity, the overall experience becomes overpriced. I felt like the amount of money spent in total $80 ish is excessive and to be honest, I've had much better. Another note, I don't think the Parmesan cheese was real, it was an emulsified cheese, not truly authentic. Overall, I understand the price hike, plenty of tourists and it is the holiday month and season. We came to Solvang for Danish and Wine and found some of the best Italian Food we've eaten. I ordered the linguine and clams. It was a favorite of my Dad's and he would've loved this version. Truly amazing meal tonight. I was greeted quickly and seated right away. The servers were kind, friendly, and welcoming. The space is quaint, and feels calm and cozy. Such a charming little restaurant. From the yelp reviews it sounds like this place is hit or miss. We got into town late on a Friday night and was headed to another restaurant when we passed by this place and discovered that they were still open and serving. For not checking yelp first I am so glad I didn't as I don't know if I would have stopped but thought the overall food and service was excellent. I had the delicious sole with our out of this world linguine. The caesar salad was a bit disappointing, mainly because of the croutons they used that look like they come out of box. We also had both a creme brulee and the canolli for dessert, both excellent! So much a cute and cozy restaurant.
