It was our first night in Solvang and we wanted to have a nice dinner. We decided to have dinner here. The atmosphere was very pretty very welcoming. The restaurant was very charming. Customer service was fantastic. The gentleman sat us down in a very nice area went ahead and took our drink. Orders came back a few moments later with some bread and took our food order since it was our first time we asked him what was his recommendation. He gave us excellent choices we went ahead and went with that. Our food came out fairly quick. Big portions everything looked delicious once we tried everything we loved it very flavorful very delicious. We truly enjoyed ourselves. We even got a dessert. Spent Mother's Day in Solvang and stumbled upon this Italian restaurant, while looking for a place to sit right away. We requested to be seated outside as the weather was nice. The ambiance outside was gorgeous. Here's what we ordered: Cesar Salad - good just ask for the dressing on the side as it was overdressed. Mozzarella sticks - didn't have the cheese pull I was expecting, I did appreciate that it wasn't as salty as most places, however, it was more breaded than cheese. Penne with sausage and fungi - good! To be honest it was even better tasting as leftovers, as the flavor was soaked in by the pasta. Sole fish with lemon sauce - came with pasta, my husband said it was exactly, if not more, what he wanted! He would order this again. Bread - free for first serving, charge after. Osteria Grappolo had a nice atmosphere, but the food execution was a bit inconsistent. I ordered the veal scallopini, and it was just average--nothing particularly memorable in terms of flavor. The julienned carrots were unevenly cut and cooked, with some underdone and others overly soft, though they didn't take away from the dish. The spinach was average. The jalapeño poppers were disappointing. They lacked crispness and seemed to have picked up a seafood flavor, likely from being fried in shared oil. Overall, not a bad experience, but the meal felt average, and a bit more attention to texture and execution would make a big difference. We will not be back. read more

This place is a nice warm cozy Italian restaurant on mission drive right across other popular destinations in Solvang. There's street parking along the restaurant and a parking lot behind the restaurant. We went late on Thursday night so parking wasn't an issue, neither was getting a table. There's nice patio seating, for a romantic vibe while spots inside provide a much quieter, private, and romantic option. To start off, the service was disappointing and did not live up to the initial promise of the place. The place seemed understaff as the server was running across the restaurant. The bread basket tasted like microwaved bread and not fresh. After we requested butter, we got the cubes, about 10 mins later(on asking twice). We ordered the Penne funghi salsiccia, and it was really good, the sausage tasted great and the portions were generous. However again the service was a downside, and while we wanted to order another dish, but the server never even came to check on us and by then we decided to leave anyways. We were excited to come here for the solvang restaurant week but was only told when we got there that the deal was only from mondays to thursdays which was very disappointing since it was NOT mentioned anywhere online on their website or any other website that mentioned their restaurant week deals... However, it was convenient for us since we were staying at the hamlet inn right across the street and were craving Italian. We got the penne bolognese and the shrimp linguini (they were kind enough to let us make substitutions from the clams since I'm allergic to them) and they were fine... what's interesting is that my garlic wine wine linguini didn't taste very garlicky at all... the penne bolognese wasn't anything special either... My wife ordered the Risotto Primavera and I ended up going with the Linguine al Pesce. Both items were so delicious! I personally really enjoyed the Linguine al Pesce (clams) because it was right up my alley and I usually order this when it comes it comes to Italian restaurants. They did not disappoint! The place is quite spacious and has a dim lit atmosphere, which I personally like! The servers were attentive and helped us out with any questions we had! On my first bite, I noticed something dense, and hard, so I spit it out and saw that it was just a hardened overcooked bottom layer. The staff was great and got right on making a fresh new one. Truly amazing meal tonight. I was greeted quickly and seated right away. The servers were kind, friendly, and welcoming. The space is quaint, and feels calm and cozy. You receive warm baked bread upon being seated which tasted lovely paired with the tables' oil and vinegar. I was sharing a meal with my daughter so she got the kids mozzarella cheese sticks with fries while I ordered a romaine salad and their meatball and spaghetti pasta. I must say that everything was delicious. This was the best meatball and spaghetti pasta I've ever had. The flavors in the sauce are amazing and the meatballs are tender and flavorful. Back in solvang for the end of the year. Overcrowded must I say. Coming to this Italian restaurant as my mood was gravitating to. I saw pictures of different pasta that looked good. When it arrived, I felt like it wasn't a lot for $25. I mean, I cook pasta easily at my own home and put marinara on it and you know what?, it taste the same. The other dish ordered was a linguini with clams and calamari. It smelled weird but it tasted okay. Was it amazing and special? Succulent and delicious? Nope. It was okay. The food quality was decent but the taste and texture was okay. It was a decent ambiance inside and the service was not bad. I ordered a salad too that was pretty good. Better than the pasta dish for sure. The bread? They give you the first for free, wanna refill? They charge you. Additionally a $2.00 is added for using a credit card plus tax and gratuity, the overall experience becomes overpriced. I felt like the amount of money spent in total $80 ish is excessive and to be honest, I've had much better. Another note, I don't think the Parmesan cheese was real, it was an emulsified cheese, not truly authentic. Overall, I understand the price hike, plenty of tourists and it is the holiday month and season. I think the experience is worse than it normally would be, but even then, a pasta is easy to make and the taste can be emulated by myself. This is one of the best Italian meals I have ever had in my life; and I've been to Italy twice! Who would've thought I would find this delicious restaurant in Solvang California. I enjoyed the scallops with risotto, special, and my family enjoyed their pasta dishes. The portions were generous, and we were too stuffed to even enjoy dessert. We got into town late on a Friday night and was headed to another restaurant when we passed by this place and discovered that they were still open and serving. For not checking yelp first I am so glad I didn't as I don't know if I would have stopped but thought the overall food and service was excellent. I had the delicious sole with our out of this world linguine. The caesar salad was a bit disappointing, mainly because of the croutons they used that look like they come out of box. We also had both a creme brulee and the canolli for dessert, both excellent! So much a cute and cozy restaurant. 3.75* I wasn't going to leave a review for this place because it wasn't anything memorable. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but just an average experience. However I did see a review claiming discriminatory treatment and if you look at my pfp I will never be mistaken for anything other than a latino. My wife and kids ditto. Although the service wasn't anything to be amazed at, it was adequate and never once did we feel discriminated against. With that out of the way my family loves their pasta. Me, not so much. My wife ordered the pesto, my eldest kid ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, my youngest ordered the penne with marinara, and I got the risotto primavera. I thought the risotto was good. Veggies tasted fresh and were cooked perfectly al dente. I love my veggies to still have a crunch to them and they held up perfectly against the texture of the rice. I had a bit of the pesto too and will say the freshness of the pesto and the pasta was surprising. The meatballs were very light and airy. They were hearty and filling without being dense. At the end of the meal all plates were clean which is a good sign. The restaurant itself was very intimate and the vibes gave me pirates of the Caribbean vibes (that's a good thing). Oh, and by the way. The complimentary bread was apparently very good. I wouldn't know because I wasn't given a chance to taste any.
