We will never return to this place whenever friends come to visit from outside we try to take them to wine tasting, years ago we came to this place and we liked it but this time the experience was not good at all: The place was empty so there were no reason for this attitude the ladies working here seemed like they didn't want to be bothered. I wanted to love Saarloos & Sons. Unfortunately my experience here was not great. My group was shorted 2 red wines with no resolution from the employees. The experience is also a bit pricey for what it is: it was $125 for 3 tasting experiences with cupcakes. Considering price alone, I feel that there are much better options for wine tastings in Los Olivos. The wine is fine here. I wouldn't say it was my favorite, and maybe I would've liked a red but given we didn't even get to try the last two that are part of the tasting, I wouldn't know if they were great. The cupcakes were actually pretty tasty! Just know they are an extra price and that is not disclosed at any point during the tasting. That being said, I felt the cupcakes actually made the wine taste better. The big problem that my group and I had during yesterday's visit is that the employee shorted me and my group of 2 glasses during the tasting. She insisted we had all 3 red glasses when we really had only 1 red glass. She kept saying that it's because we were "talking" that we didn't notice the other pours but our group was pacing the glasses of wine along with the cupcakes and all 3 of us still had 2 cupcakes left. Additionally, the group next to us had also witnessed the same problem and agreed we had been shorted. The whole experience seemed very unprofessional. The business should highly consider giving you a stamp for every glass or something to confirm you've received all your glasses as it's clear they struggle to keep track of what each group has received. There are definitely much better tasting options than Saarloos & Sons in Los Olivos, even when just taking the taste of the wine into consideration. Been here loads of time. Each visit was always great. Last visit was literally a quick pop in to pick up a hat for a friend. This visit, same but except it was for some mini cupcakes. There's a vendor that's part of the tasting room that offers beautiful and tasty mini cupcakes. We always pick up half dozen usually. Also, their wine selections are quite nice when tasting. The place is cute both inside as well as outside. A nice patio with a fire pit out front. This tasting room is along the main strip of town. There's also a nice garden area in the back for tasting as well. Usually bigger groups do tasting back there but it's always open. Plus they have a beautiful vineyard that offers tours. read more

Since my boyfriend and I weren't able to get here before they closed at 5 when we were in Los Olivos a few weeks ago, it was perfect to stop by here and finally try the pairing on our way back down from Paso Robles the day after my birthday! It was a bit of a cloudy and rainy Sunday so they weren't too busy which was honestly perfect, except that it would've been nice to sit outside by the fire pit if it wasn't cold and drizzly. They do have a fireplace inside as well, and a great ambiance - you can tell the wine and the space is all centered around family, which I loved. This is some of the best wines in the central coast we've had! Both the whites and reds are fantastic and taste exactly like they should. We immediately signed up for the wine club. This will definitely be on our rotation while in Santa Ynez. This family owned estate vineyard is 5 stars. A great Boutique Winery in Los Olivos. A relaxing venue on the Main Street as you enter town from Hwy 154, the location has a great sitting area out front to sip on wine and people watch. The backyard sitting area is secluded and intimate for small groups and families! Keith Saarloos and his family are doing a spectacular job here. She claimed we had been talking and misremembered -- Poor customer service to gaslight your customers. She offered a fifth "out of the goodness of her heart." How generous when we were gypped to begin with. All the wines were just okay; too sweet for us but I'm sure other folks find them enjoyable. When we showed up for our reservation, we were offered the option to buy the cupcakes with our tasting. I kindly let the person that we had pre-ordered cupcakes online, and they confirmed :) I guess they just didn't see it. PHEW! They were quite tasty! They are mini-cupcakes but it was the perfect amount for hubby and I. They were unique flavors and moist! We chose to sit outside near one of the two firepits. The other firepit was flooded, perhaps the cover flew off in the middle of the night? not sure. They lit it the not-flooded one for us and the ambiance was nice to just sit outside. I liked that we were poured and given a brief description of the wine, left alone to enjoy, and then returned for another pour w/o having to move. I much more prefer this style of wine tasting. Our pourer also offered to take us photos, which I liked. Their flight includes reds & whites. He asked if we were okay with those. I let our pourer know that I'm not a fan of reds and he happily gave me the option to exchange those 2 red pours for 1 big white pour of one of the 3 whites in the flight, whichever was my fave. The cons: -wine was just ok in my opinion. My sister and I enjoyed a late lunch at Merchant Cafe in Los Olivos, CA and then walked over to enjoy some wine at Saaloos & Sons. We knew they were almost closing so we planned to have a glass of wine and not a flight. Paul was just so accommodating, professional, and he made us feel welcomed. We weren't sure which wine we would enjoy and Paul was kind enough to let us taste two of his recommended choices. The second suggestion was not even necessary because after we tasted the MOM wine we were sold! I know, it seems cheesy that we liked the MOM wine on Mother's Day, but it was definitely tasty. We opted for buying a bottle of the MOM wine to enjoy, and unlike any other Grenache Blanc I had ever tasted. #yummmm My sister and I really enjoyed the ambience in the winery. Unfortunately, they were out of tiny cupcakes by the time we arrived, but drinking the MOM wine was satisfying enough. I love the environment at Saarloos, especially the hidden back patio. It's also one of the few tasting rooms with a bathroom since Los Olivos is on a septic system, and it's just as beautiful as the rest of the elegantly designed interiors. We ordered a couple bottles of wine for our group, took some fun pictures at the photo booth, and enjoyed the sun out back. The one staff member was very awkward, we asked about water and it took a few questions to find out they only offer bottled water at a cost. For a town filled with wineries, you would think they would want their customers freely drinking water to not become too intoxicated. Most places nearby offer water in jug with cups. This was tasting number two that we had on Friday, November 26, 2021 with a 3pm reservation. It was just a half block from our first tasting. It was a beautiful day to sit out on the front patio sipping wine. They have a large patio out front of the house and then a large backyard area. The backyard area said for "members only"; therefore, we sat in the front. All tastings right now are outdoors only. The tastings were $15 for 5 wines, which is a very good price for the area. At this tasting room, you can also reserve a flight of 6 mini cupcakes, all of which were absolutely delicious! The reason for the four stars is lack of detail. It appeared that there was one employee for the front and one for the back. The employee in the front was overwhelmed at times, and a line would form when you would get up and go for your next tasting glass. In addition, it was pour and run. I know some people are bored by very descriptive wine explanations; however, we love that. We love to know what is in each wine, what it tastes like and what it goes well with. There was no explanation given to us on any of the wines that were poured. It was a good experience; however, I just wish a little bit more attention to detail was provided. read more

It's very difficult to know where to go for your wine experience in Los Olivos, there are so many wineries to choose from and honestly most of them will give you a great wine tasting experience. I rarely go to L.O. Without getting a glass at Sasrloos & Sons. Of course the wines are terrific. I love the Honyocker which is a truly unique blend of Grenache Blanc Noir and Syrah. They have a couple other great Grenache on the menu as well as a Pinot Noir and some whites. You can sit on the beautiful front patio with a gurgling fountain or a fire pit and watch the world pass by on the main drag..... You can also sit in the park-like back patio. Most of all I enjoy the knowledgeable and delightful staff. Kristina is always amazing and Tara is so fun and works a few days a week. I was in Los Olivos when I pasted by this adorable little house and had to go tasting there! I called them immediately and thankfully they could fit me in with an appointment for that day. We walked up the steps of this gorgeous old house to be greeted by Laura, their wine attendant. We told Laura we have never been there before and what she would recommend for a bottle to share. She was exceptionally helpful and led us to a their red blend: Proprietary Red. The Proprietary Red was heavy, deep, and tart. I imagine it would be delicious with a steak. Laura also talked us into the mini cupcakes. They offer 6 mini cupcakes for $12. As we were celebrating a birthday, we could not pass it up. The cupcakes were moist and sweet. The crowd favorite was definitely the double chocolate one. In true Los Olivos fashion, they had a stunning back patio complete with comfortable, white couches. You don't need to reserve the cupcakes anymore which is a huge plus! It's normally empty when they first open around 11am. It gets busy around lunch time and afternoon. The cupcakes are as delicious if not even more tasty! I loved every bite and went well with the wine tasting! The 4th star us really for the cupcakes. Wines were good and bought the pinot that tasted very similar to the one I bought in 2013. Pinot Noir-extended family, Sav. Blanc, and Syrah-workhorse. The pinot grapes actually come from elsewhere and it's my favorite. Their labels are still really cool but that's just the cover. Their wines are pretty decent and so my friends bought some bottles to take back home as well. Their restrooms are nice, big, and cold which is nice when it's hot outside. The girls pour very short and doesn't engage with the customers much. They engage with each other...i couldnt get a question in... A wine tasting room with a small grass area in the back of a converted house. We had reservations for 16 & 6 were already wine club members here so I was looking forward to it. I didn't particularly care for their wine. The "big deal" is the cupcake pairings. However the cupcakes are 6 mini ones to be shared by 2 & an extra $20 which I don't feel was worth it. The "tastings" were served in 6 small glass bottles bundled in a hand carrier to be shared by a group of 8. Let me tell you it was hardly enough, maybe 3 sips a person. And who wants to be the one pouring in your group trying to evenly divide one small bottle 8 ways? I didn't take a picture because I wasn't impressed but should've to help convey my description. Also the wine club members in our group were under the impression when receiving the 2 small tasting carriers of wine for everyone that they would be complimentary but on the way out a member was stopped & asked to pay for 4 tastings. That just seemed weird because we also spent money on 6 cupcake orders. Customer service is key when the wine & ambiance are lacking. read more
