    Dierberg's gorgeous tasting room is tucked away in Drum Canyon. The tasting offers 6 delicious wines, starting with two whites and a rosé, then moves on to various reds. The large barn doors on every side of the building make the inside feel very open. There are two bars and a few cozy areas to sit. Outside, there is a ton of patio seating and amazing views. The huge grassy area is perfect for picnics. There is also a beautiful succulent garden with a small walking path. They are both dog and kid-friendly. We sat inside at the bar since it was overcast when we arrived and Heather helped us. She was very knowledgeable about the wines and super friendly. About halfway through our tasting the sun came out and it made the grounds look even more stunning! I highly recommend checking out Dierberg on your next valley trip!

    Beautiful views on a blustery day

    On a blustery day in the Santa Rita Hills the dog, my wife, mom, grandma, and I made it out to Dierberg Star Lane for a wine tasting. The lone barn behind the backdrop of the hills was truly a sight to behold. We had planned on tasting outside but with the wind howling we stayed inside instead. We were a little hesitant since we had our 85lb pittie with us but as others have said this place is VERY dog friendly. Service was awesome and we had a lot of fun making our way through the Bordeaux offerings from Star Lane and the Burgundy from Dierberg. We ended up going with the star lane membership and look forward to coming back to pick up our bottles and spending more afternoons at the Dierberg in the near future!

    Enjoying an afternoon tasting on the patio at Dierberg with family visiting.

    Whenever we have visitors here in Solvamg, a visit to Dierberg is a must! The views of the valley and the wines are all very tasty. The team will help you understand what wines to pair with different foods at home and they are very friendly. The winery is right off 246 on Drum Canyon road and although it looks like a barn, it's very well done inside and out. Be sure to ask for Kristen when you go as she know her stuff.

    Great wine selection

    SARA'S STOPS: Sipping away the afternoon at a beautiful winery in the Sta. Rita Hills west of Solvang. When you are up in the Solvang area make sure you head over to the Lompoc area to try some amazing wines. We just spent the most pleasant afternoon at Dierburg Star Lane Winery tasting room. The property was so beautiful inside and out. We loved sitting on the patio, which looked out over the beautiful garden and hillsides. The interior was spacious with lots of areas to sit and relax. Kristin was our wine pouring expert. She explained each tasting with amazing knowledge. She knew the area and soil makeup where each grape came from and the percentage used to make each varietal. The tasting included Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Syrah.It was very hard to choose which was the best because they were all amazing.

    Some of the very best winemaking in the area, and great hospitality. Standouts include their Cab and Syrah. They also make four Pinot Noirs that express different terroir and winemaker, which makes for a fascinating horizontal.

    A great spot for wine tasting

    We were driving from Solvang to Lompoc and didn't have any wineries in mind to stop at until I opened up Yelp to see which wineries were dog friendly. Dierberg popped up and had a number of great reviews. When we pulled up, we immediately thought that the grounds were one of the most picturesque that we had seen in the area. The barn is such a great setting for the tasting. There is also a large grassy area and a number of outdoor tables. The weather was perfect so my husband and mother-in-law enjoyed sitting outside looking at the land with our dog while I tasted with my father-in-law. When we first arrived in the tasting room, we were warmly greeted and we each had 3 glasses set in front of us. I've been to a lot of wineries and this was the first time that I had 3 glasses to use for tasting. After we tried the whites, we were poured the 2 different pinot noirs to taste side by side. I really enjoyed the tasting and having the ability to taste side by side was a nice touch. The gals working there were very friendly and knowledgeable. One of the gals showed us a map and photos of the winery as well and explained to use where Happy Canyon was. They had a deal for 1 cent shipping if you purchased at least 6 bottles, so we did that and got the sauvignon blanc (2 bottles), pinot noir (santa maria, 2 bottles), pinot noir (santa rita hills), and cab. The wines arrived very quickly and in tact. I would definitely recommend a stop at Dierberg, especially if you like pinot noir.

    ~~~~REVIEW # 850!!!!~~~~ More 6 year Anniversary fun!!!! My BF really did a really, really good job in locating the best vineyards in the Santa Barbara area!!!! He picked Dierberg because it specialized in chardonnay - which is our favorite kind of wine!!!! It turns out they don't just specialize in chardonnay though. The best thing about Dierberg is the fact it's off the beaten path!!!! Always cool to find something this good where perhaps you'd least expect it!!!! For a $20 tasting fee here's what we got!!!! 2016 Star Lane Sauvignon Blanc 2014 Dierberg Chardonnay 2014 Dierberg Pinot Noir 2013 Dierberg Pinot Noir 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Syrah All of the above wines were superior in every aspect!!!! I really enjoyed them and they were better or as good as wines we sampled at more popular wineries!!!! Our hostess was funny, great and very charming!!!! We were joined by two other hostesses who were equally cool!!!! The decor and ambience are great!!!! There is an adorable winery dog running around!!!! What can I do without at Dierberg Star Lane Vineyards? Nothing!!!! What stands out at Dierberg Star Lane Vineyards? Superior wine and charismatic staff!!!! The fact it was not crowded!!!! Five stars!!!! Dierberg Star Lane Vineyards is really, really ridiculously great!!!!
    Great low key vineyard and tasting room. Gorgeous bar with comfortable lounging area both I side and outside. The location used to be an old barn which they converted into a wine tasting bar. Outdoor seating is beautiful, location is fabulous. Restrooms are gender neutral, crowd is diverse and friendly. Bartender was great and really fun, super knowledgeable of all the wines and varieties. I loved visiting this place, highly suggest to bring friends and make a day out of it . You can certainly bring some snacks and make a picnic. Huge fan of my entire experience. Keep it up! * ***********Heres a good IDEA ************* ********Did you enjoy reading the review ?****** ************PLEASE Share some ************* ************ vote for this review!***************
    ***My winery/tasting room reviews are rated based upon many factors. First is QPR or quality to price ratio of the wine. In other words, is the wine priced according to how good it is. The second factor is the tasting room experience. This involves the staff, grounds and anything unique about the winery.*** Tasting room fee: $10 Wine price range: $20-$42 Some legendary names for this area, Dierberg and Star Lane, are poured in this great tasting room. Located on a side road off of 246, their barn tasting room is welcoming and situated on a wonderful country road. They recently opened this tasting room. They are open until 5pm. I arrived just before closing. The tasting room gal said she would be happy to do a brief tasting with me. I was able to try their Dierberg Pinot, Dierberg Syrah and Star Lane Cabernet (all I was interested in anyway). The wines are great, I have had many other wines made using this vineyard so it was nice to try one made by the vineyard owner. I thought the tasting fee was a little steep, even though I was not charged for this abbreviated tasting. I really recommend stopping here, it is a good benchmark for great pinots in the area.
However the service we received was unlike any of the other wineries we stopped at in the area. When we arrived at 3:30pm we were greeted at the door by a young woman who immediately told us that they would be closing at 5pm so we may not have much time for a tasting. An hour and a half isn't enough time for a tasting? After sitting in the large open tasting room, we engaged in conversation with her about the wines and the winery. When asked how she got into the business and started working at Hilt, she said she just wanted something that she didn't hate, and had applied for the job a couple months ago. When we asked about the white wine they had, she mentioned its tannins. Tannins in white wine? Given that we were only interested in trying the whites and the majority on the tasting menu were reds, we decided to try a glass of the white on offer instead of doing the tasting. The pour was about 2 ounces. It's too bad that the service was so impersonal and uneducated because the winery and the wines seemed so impressive. We would have loved to learn more but decided to cut our losses and leave.
The furniture and artwork were both stunning as well, definitely recommend sitting by the fireplace. Our host was lovely, knowledgeable, and super accommodating of the timing before our next reservation. She explained the wines perfectly and definitely got us thinking about the different tasting notes. We left with a few bottles of the 2005 Sangiovese, it was an off-menu recommendation from our host and this wine had an amazing aroma, didn't even need to take a sip to know how special it was (but obviously did)! All said, an amazing experience, beautiful wines, knowledgeable staff - definitely recommend!
Our group of 5 all ordered $30 wine tastings where we were not allowed to actually select the wines to taste. When I asked what wines would be included, the server identified several on the menu and unfortunately only half of these ended up being included in the final tasting. As our group began to enjoy our tasting, the staff unexpectedly took our heater away to warm a 2 top table without ever asking our group if we still wanted the heater (we did, it was 50 degrees out). One person in our group brought out a leftover bite of baguette from a previous stop in town and was QUICKLY alerted by the owner with the wag of a finger and note that "they sell food there and she can't bite her own food." The owner waited until my friend put her small bite in her purse before walking away. When checking out, the server told us we'd need to pay via one card only (fine) and proceeded to watch closely as my friend chose her gratuity option (rude). Although we selected a nice 20% tip on the screen prompt, the actual math shook out to a 24% tip without us ever agreeing to it. Short story: - Too expensive - Rude - Performative, white-centric feminism - Not worth visiting when there are so many other great options close by
We've celebrated almost every major milestone here, and it has always felt like a second home. Watching the winery evolve while staying true to its roots has been incredible. One of the things we always loved about Sanford was the winemaking style under Steve Fennell. When Trey Fletcher took over, I'll admit we were a little hesitant. It's hard to see change at a place that means so much to you. But wow, Trey has absolutely won us over. The wines have evolved, but they still capture everything that makes Sta. Rita Hills special. There's a clear Burgundy influence, with thoughtful whole-cluster use that adds complexity and structure, but the wines never lose their sense of place. They still showcase the vibrant fruit, acidity, and character of the region while maintaining the backbone to age beautifully. Of course, great wine is only part of the story. The hospitality team has always been fantastic, and every visit feels warm and welcoming. Whether you've been coming for decades like we have or it's your first visit, Sanford has a way of making you feel at home. There are plenty of great wineries in the Sta.
