Second time enjoying Toccata Tasting Room. This is the sister winery to Lucas and Lewellen. Best part, the tasting rooms are right across the street from each other in the heart of Solvang. Toccata has a younger, modern, charm and vibe. They offer four different flight groupings, white wines, red wines, sweeter whites (i.e., moscatos) and a red/white blend. Our server, who I failed to properly meet (shame on me), was very knowledgeable and attentive. We were tired of walking around Solvang on Labor Day weekend - it was hot and there were people everywhere. So we escaped to Toccata and decided to do a quick wine tasting before heading back to LA. We didn't get the warmest of welcomes upon walking in (not sure if this is a Solvang thing -- the first place we went to just completely ignored us so we left, and not sure if I blame them -- they've got to be inundated with tourists all that weekend (and I would imagine things have been busier since COVID and people in LA are looking for drivable vacation escapes...). But once we were seated, things were fine. I believe our pourer was Cindy, who is this wonderfully grouchy woman who metaphorically wagged a finger at us, because we had mistakenly poured water into our wineglasses between wines... they apparently can look at the glass and know what wine you just had. That's....so impressive. So, I know nothing about wines, and I just drank my tasting list of "fun" sweet wines. There were 6 of them. It was nice to sit outside and people watch. I really wish the places in Solvang let customers use their restrooms - in order to pee, you had to go to the public bathrooms next to the parking lot, and all day, there was a huge line. There are about 4 sets of different wine tasting options that come with 6 tastings, priced around $20-25. I did the sweet wine tasting & my friend did the red wines. I'm not much of a wine drinker, because I love sweeter drinks. Honestly, I'm more of a Stella Rosa drinker. So, the sweet wine tasting at this place was amazing. The last drink in the sweet tasting even came with dark chocolate & tasted great while paired with the drink. I got to try a few different moscatos & they were great. After my latest visit, I feel compelled to update my review. Especially since things have changed when visiting a winery due to COVID times. First thing anyone should know about this winery is that there is a 30 minute time limit on your tasting here if you have a large party. We weren't aware of this at the time, but it made sense as to why our server Laura came off as wanting to get us in and out of there as fast as she could. We had a party of 6 plus a dog. Laura's whole vibe was as if she was pissed off or just not happy to be doing her job. The tasting pours she served to our friend were not very well explained or not explained at all. It was very uncomfortable to sit there and not feel welcomed. I asked if we could buy a bottle of wine and she said no! We only sell bottles to go. But again her tone was rude. That should have been our queue to just leave, but we ended up staying. Maybe if we were members we would have been treated better, but clearly Laura was having a bad day! Also, there is no food allowed here and obviously no outside alcohol. I understand limiting tasting visits if you have a large party, but at the time we stopped by, the place was pretty empy. There was no line of customers waiting for a table, and there was plenty of seating available. My suggestion would be to limit visits to 30 minutes based on how many customers there are, and not make us feel like we have to chug down our wine like it's a shot! I brought my family here because I've visited this winery several times when I'm in the area, and I've always had a good experience. Sorry to say I will no longer return here. read more

After tasting some wine across the street, we were referred to Toccata Tasting Room if we wanted a different style of wine. Toccata had dry, semi-sweet, sweet and dessert wines from Italy. We don't usually like these types of wines but the wines we tasted were all absolutely delicious. The different types of flavor and aromas really struck and we couldn't resist purchasing a few bottles like the Toccata Sparkling wine and the Late Harvest Moscato to float on the top of a glass of Champagne. The service at Toccata was excellent. Friendly and knowable, we were paired with wines we would most likely enjoy. I highly recommend visiting Toccata Tasting Room when you are in the heart of Solvang. I know we will be returning next time we are back up in the area. read more

First wine tasting we did. Good number of people in here on the weekend. We did the lista d' amore. My wife likes the white/sweeter wines. Everything on the list was very good, especially the Rosato di Barbera (rose). Our pourer, Elke, was phenomenal. She was taking care of 3-4 people at any given time. Yet, she did not skip a beat. He's an awesome guy to talk with...whether it was details on wine, his large collection of guns, knowledge on war facts, and so forth...I enjoyed his company. The wines were delicious and unique in their own way. I loved the detail of the menu and the explanations given for each wine. When I think of Solvang, I always remember three things. The bakeries, the windmills, and Toccata Tasting Room. The tasting room is small, intimate, and cute! Normally at any winery they always give you info on the wine that you're drinking but on this particular day, they just named and poured the wine and left. This was okay but I guess something to keep in mind if you prefer that. We had the sweet wine flight, Lista di Amore and each wine just left you wanting more. If you are more of a sweet wine person, this is the place for you! The first time I came to this tasting room two years ago, I fell in love with their sweet wines especially one of my favorites wines to date - Moscato di Santa Barbara. You can ask anyone, one sip of that wine and I immediately told them to bring the bottle for purchase. Pro Tip - if you taste here, you can visit their sister tasting room Lucas & Lewellen down the street and get 50% of a flight there and vice versa! read more

There's 6 pours for around $20 depending on which set you choose (I think 4-5 choices) and an entire outdoor patio area to sample wine. There's a lot of rules at this particular tasting room like "no food" (your own and they have none) so don't go here for your first stop if you haven't eaten yet. We went to another tasting room first that had a cheese and dried fruit plate and then got bread too first. The Sun changed and we asked to move tables because the sun was on us and we didn't have suntan lotion on and we were told we could, but can't move again because she has to sanitize each glass table. So it's clean for sure. The Santa Barbara woman that runs this/serves wine is a strong and knowledgeable person that doesn't take crap from anyone. We love people like that so come enjoy wine and check out the wine trips advertised (pic attached). Oh and the wine (why you came here right?) is pretty good. We got the red flight and I didn't like the first 2, but certainly liked the next 4 (Barbera 2017 - the best). read more

A friend and I were excited to try this place for wine tasting. We asked the lady on the counter what she recommended. She rudely stated that she wasn't able to because she did not know what we liked. Her whole demeanor was very condescending; in which I held my tongue for respect of my friend. Another gentleman serviced us, so we decided to stay since we had a 2 for 1. As we tried to enjoy our wine pours, I noticed she was very different with other patrons. I would hate to wonder if our backgrounds played a part for her dismissive attitude. We will never visit this establishment again! Wow, I have not had such poor customer service and need treated so badly for......NEVER....I have never had such distasteful service. I always loved Toccata and wanted to take my husband there. It saddens me a place with such wonderful wine can ruin it all by employing such nasty people with customer service skills. Let me start by saying, I get it nerves are tense all around these days...my husband is a trauma surgeon and we went to Solvang for him to enjoy his ONLY day off all week and let me tell you how it went.... We stood outside Toccata for about 15 mins. No one was around helping or seating people and the older man working was behind the counter inside. There were open seats on patio. I have 2 young kids who were finishing up their ice cream. After waiting and waiting and the man not acknowledging us I went inside and asked him if we could sit at open table and do tasting. He didn't even greet me or make eye contact and snapped "I have to seat you, there are rules". I replied, "Great, I understand that, no problem blah blah blah". I was being very positive and hoped he would return the nice attitude. After another 7 minutes he came outside. At this point it was 100 degrees out and my children and husband were annoyed that we had waited over 20 mins for this man to seat us. Again, no wait, no waitlist, he was inside doing God knows what. He told my kids and husband he had to seat us and we said we understand. Then instead of seating us at the open table, he snapped at us saying there is a long wait (no wait and no wait list, no one else in line). He then snarled at my kids they could not eat their ice cream--they were literally on last bite and I explained they had been eating it while we waited 25 mins outside. He refused to seat us making up lie there was wait and no table. We left calmly and did not say anything. I did not think it was appropriate to say anything in front of my kids. We went to another place and were treated right. The clincher, right when we left, an older couple in their 60s comes up and the rude host comes out and seats them ASAP in the table we acquired about. They said "oh wow great, no wait" The bottom line is the old crusty rude man working did not want our business. Makes me sad, as we are kind respectful people and my husband will probably take care of you one day when you are in the ER or hospital. Pay it forward. Be kind. Do your job and do it well. I shudder to think what this old nasty man is like outside of work! He acts rude and crusty when he is paid to work in a customer service job. 1 for service and 5 star on wines. On Wednesday, March 9th we ate dinner at Leonardo's restaurant Pizzeria. We ordered a bottle of Toccata Sangiovese to go with our dinner. We all enjoyed it and we were pleased to find out that Solvang had a wine tasting room. We couldn't wait to go try more of Toccata wines. On Thursday March 10th A group of 7 of us went to Toccata tasting room in the afternoon. The place was completely empty. There was seating inside, seating with complete shade in front of building and the make shift outdoor Covid seating area in the street with partial shade. A lady approached us and said would you like to do winetasting. We said yes and she said go ahead and sit down wherever. We sat down in the complete shade right in front. We started moving chairs so we could all sit together. She comes out and rudely said you can't sit here you guys need to go out there. I explain to her that we needed shade and she said we usually don't take large groups so you will have to go out there, you can't sit here! At this point I wanted to leave because she was rude and it didn't make any sense why we couldn't sit there. We were the only ones there, it was empty! I am very fair and have a condition where I can't be in the sun. Also one of the people in our group has had skin cancer. I felt I did not need to explain that. However two people in our party really wanted to try the wine, we had been looking forward to trying the wines & planned on bringing some home for dinner. So we decided to sit in the street Covid seating outside with a partial shade. The lady never introduced herself and we don't know her name. She was the only one working. When she came out us, she was not friendly and did not make much conversation. She gave us a paper and said that the paper explains the wines we could try. She told us to look it over and she'll come back out. She went inside and only came out to do the pouring. About the second pouring the sun was completely over all of us. The lady never came outside only to pour the wine. It's funny she can put us out in the sun but stayed inside in the shade the whole time. After everything was over I refused to buy anything from this place. However two of the people in our party did. She made a point to pull them aside as we were leaving just to talk to them. She rudely whispered to them to tell them they were great. I hope whoever this lady that was working on March 10th was not the owner. There are many choices of wine in the area and with someone who is unfriendly, rude and inconsiderate ruins a good wine. Unfortunately I will not be back and I will not purchase from a company that has employees like this! Plenty of other great wineries in the area! Side note-it was still empty when we left! read more

We enjoyed our wine tasting experience and quality of wine at Lucas & Lewellen, and they said Toccata is their sister tasting room so we decided to stop by, but now I wish we didn't stop here after all. There were 2 guys pouring and they each had one group, so it's not like they were swamped, but yet we got very cold service, not even a hello or welcome. We managed to start our wine tasting but they pour and go away. One guy was busy chatting a group, but the other guy didn't even have customer but just sitting and staring at the wall. Wine was okay but what a difference of quality even though the grapes came from the same vineyard and same wine maker. We won't waste our time stopping here again. read more
