Had a great time here on Saturday afternoon. My friend made a reservation for tastings and we all had a great time. The wine is delicious, especially the sauvignon blanc. The sommelier Steven was very nice and welcoming. He taught us so much about the wineries history and the process. There was so much seating inside and the couches were so comfortable. Definitely would like to return.

This place is a must when you're visiting Los Olivos. We came on a Thursday afternoon. Our intention was to try other wineries but we stayed here for the pours and more pours. The service is fantastic. We learned a lot about the vineyard and various wines. It was great chatting with the staff. I recommend you eat before or take food with you since they do not serve food, but open to you bringing in your own. This is like a western industrial decor vibe. There are couches and lots of comfy seating.

Great first stop for a day of wine tasting - the people here are very nice and even let us taste a few extras. I loved the interior decor with comfy couches and just an overall nice vibe. Plus, the outside patio is also very large! I'll definitely be back :)

I have been to Los Olivos area for more than a dozen times and never at Refugio Ranch Vineyards This afternoon my husband and I stopped by to check out the farm stand. While we were there we couldn't ignore the smell of the burgers grilling right by us. So we walked in and ordered two burgers that came with potato chips. OMG .. the smash cheese burgers were so delicious. They tasted as good as they smelled. We really enjoyed our late lunch. We also got a glass of the rose that we enjoyed much. The service here was wonderful. Friendly and welcoming staff all around. Our waitress was amazing. The farm stand was filled with fresh produce such as carrots, beets, tomatoes etc. they also sell farm fresh eggs. I'm so happy we stopped by and would definitely stop by again on our next trip to Los Olivos.

    Off with my purchases!

Popped in here based on a rec from a friend and had the kind of tasting I just love! The gal who served was awesome and super knowledgeable of the wines. She learned what we liked & catered to that. The wines were bomb! We left with a few bottles. Def check this place out!

Awesome wines, awesome staff and now that they serve food, awesome "Chamburgers". We keep coming back because of the vibe of the tasting room and how friendly the staff are.

The moment we drove into town Refugio caught our eye. Located on the end Los Olivos' main strip, this spot is a quaint and serene welcome to town. When the winery we had planned to visit was all booked up, we immediately headed back over to Refugio because we couldn't stop talking about how cute it was. There were two different tasting flights, one $20 and the other $25. We did one of each and shared so that we were able to taste all of the wines. Each flight had 5 wines, but Peter, our fun and charismatic tasting room associate gave us an off-menu pour as well. Him as well as everyone else working was so courteous, knowledgeable, and full of great energy! On top of that, they had great wines too! I ended up getting a bottle of the Escondrijo - a Grenache, syrah, petit sirah blend. We brought our own charcuterie set up and enjoyed it while we tasted. We were never rushed and were able to thoroughly enjoy our time here. If you happen to be in the area and want to do some wine tasting I cannot recommend this place enough! I hope to come back here sooner rather than later.

This was such a wonderful place to visit. Dean was phenomenal as our tasting host. He was very engaging and knowledgeable about the wine my party tasted. Can't rave enough about him! The place is perfect to bring your friends and family to just hang out and enjoy great wine. Lots of outdoor and indoor seating. Please come visit and support this lovely tasting room.

The positive first: walking in everybody was super friendly and greeted us with a smile, and sat us down right away on the patio since we had our dog with us. We ordered the baked brie appetizer and two glasses of red wine. My husband had the Austin Hope Cab and I had a red blend. I don't remember the brand name. It was a little bit expensive for a glass of wine. I wanna say around $25 but we both were in the mood for a good wine and wanted to treat ourselves. The baked Brie was delicious. Negative: the fish and chips and the service. I was so excited to see fish and chips on the menu because it was halibut. I'm used to cod in fish and chips so of course I had to order since I am a huge halibut lover. The table next to us also said what an amazing meal that was and ordered one to go. We received our fish and chips from not our server and the person dropped the meal and left without asking us if we needed anything. My husband and I looked at the fish and chips and immediately started laughing. It looked like little fish nuggets as opposed to fish! I kind of thought we were being punked. We waited and waited for the server to come by or a manager or some thing and could not get anybody to come talk to us. It took 14 minutes for her to finally come tap on our table and ask if everything was OK. We told her it was not OK and to look at the size of the fish and she said she would go tell the kitchen and asked if we wanted to remake it. At that point, we weren't even hungry anymore. We were just kind of annoyed at the entire situation. She comes back out a few minutes later and says we're going to take it off of your bill. We don't see her for a while and then the manager comes over and says we took it off of your bill. He didn't ask if there's any way to make it right he just said OK anyways and walked away at the end. Being in the restaurant industry for many years, I thought this was pretty offensive. If I were him, I probably would have made another one right away or offered something they are known for like their pizza. So overall, I wouldn't be back. I think there's many other restaurants around there and to be treated like that after how we were served....no thank you!

It was the first of five tastings we did during our weekend in town, and the wines were, admittedly, the least impressive. They went down easy, though, and we had a pleasant visit. We checked into our hotel on Friday around 5:30 and quickly realized that all the wineries on our list were closed. We asked the receptionist where we might be able to do a tasting, and she said Carhartt was our best bet. It was quite open when we walked in, almost intimidatingly so, the live music loud as we rounded the sidewalk outside the enclosed patio. Jack welcomed us into the tasting room and suggested we do a vibe check on the patio before deciding where to sit. We peeked outside and it seemed fun in a way we weren't looking for, a bit of a party atmosphere with a live band and a lot of people. We took our seats in the quieter tasting room, where we were able to enjoy the music from a distance while we drank some wine. We both did the house tasting, which came with five pours of Carhartt wines: the 2024 Top Branch, the 2022 Sin Nada, the 2022 Sangiovese, the 2022 Rebel Roan, and the 2020 Northerly. Jack also gave us a taste of the 2021 Graciano. They were all nice wines, but we particularly liked the Sin Nada, the Sangiovese, and the Graciano, and took home two bottles of each, getting one $25 tasting fee waived with each purchase of three bottles. Jack was a great host, and he told us all about the wines and winery as we went along. (He pre-empted our first question, saying that yes, they were the same Carhartts as the Carhartt clothing label, but not the same company. I guess just the classic generational wealth to winemaking pipeline.) It was a helpful introduction to both the Carhartt wines and Los Olivos, and Jack was good company. I said Carhartt was the least impressive of the wineries we visited, but it's also worth noting that it had the lowest price point. Carhartt isn't gunning for Robert Parker ratings. The wines are accessible and tasty, and I have a feeling we'll go through our bottles very fast.

This place has everything you'd hope for in a wine tasting experience: cozy, welcoming atmosphere and everyone is genuinely cheerful from the moment you walk in. Owner-operated by Mike and Brooke, alongside their son, Chase -- they truly are the heart and soul of the winery. The entire staff are warm, attentive, incredibly knowledgeable, and so friendly it feels like you're visiting old friends rather than a tasting room. Even better, they stay open later than many spots in town, making it the perfect place to linger, unwind, and savor the experience just a little longer. Every detail is meticulous, from the beautiful atmosphere in their back patio to the way they guide you through each pour. They take the time to explain the wines without ever making you feel rushed, and their passion shows in every conversation. An experience defined by outstanding service, lovely wines, and a warm, easygoing vibe. And as an added bonus, they're wonderfully dog-friendly -- making it even more welcoming for everyone. Overall, it's hands-down the best place in Los Olivos. It's definitely my go-to whenever I'm in town, and I genuinely look forward to visiting a few times a year. Carhartt Family Wines never disappoints -- it's an experience as wonderful as the wine itself.

We first discovered their wines at a local coffee shop back home in San Diego, so when we realized they were based in Los Olivos, we knew we had to stop on our trip. The tasting room is stylish, warm, and inviting. It has that modern, researched, intentional look I gravitate toward in wine brands. I also love that they source their grapes locally and offer light, refreshing chillable reds and natural wines. Their chillable Pinot Noir was such a pleasant surprise -- I don't usually like traditional Pinot, but this one was vibrant, fresh, and so easy to drink. I had a great conversation with the server about the wines I enjoy, how the wine industry is shifting, and the growing appeal of refreshing, bright, natural‑leaning wines. We'd had one of the pinots at a fancy restaurant a few years back and knew the place had a good reputation. We also appreciated the easy walk-in situation on a Saturday afternoon. The tasting room was casual and charming, part "mercantile," selling wine, of course, and sundry gift items and home goods. There was plentiful seating, some of it at the bar and some of it in what felt like a large living room, homily decorated with lots of art on the walls. It was pretty busy while we were there, but not in the least bit crowded. We sat at the bar, which was run by an enormous former football player (if I eavesdropped correctly) and a woman from New Zealand on the verge of retirement. I'd watch that movie. We were helped by the woman, who was friendly and knowledgeable, a great guide to the house wines. The flight started with the 2025 Rosé of Mourvédre, then went to Liquid Farm's Chardonnays and Pinots. There was the 2024 White Hill Chardonnay, the 2024 Golden Slope Chardonnay, the 2023 "SBC" Pinot Noir, the 2023 Fiddlestix Pinot Noir, and the 2023 Four Pinot Noir. The wines were fantastic across the board. The tasting fee was $40, on the steep side, probably because the space invites casual drinking. It was easily waived, with one flight waived per two bottles purchased. The wines were all between $30 and $94, so this was easy math. The kind of easy math that had us leaving Los Olivos with a trunk--and back seat--full of wine. We picked up a White Hill Chardonnay, an "SBC" Pinot, and two of the Fiddlestix, a prime haul that we look forward to drinking. The inn leans into the old west aesthetic, but the tavern is just elegant and attractive, with leather furniture, a high vaulted ceiling, and a lot of windows. It was pleasantly bustling on a Friday night, with what seemed like a mix of hotel guests and other visitors. Los Olivos has a population that hovers around 1,000, so this restaurant, like the stagecoach stop, is there to serve travelers. Accordingly, service was first class. There was a full bar with elaborate cocktails and plenty of wine from the area. We ordered two rounds of cocktails, as we planned to drink wine all weekend, and they were all very good. The Vaquero Campfire was a refreshing mezcal drink with pink peppercorn, honey, and charred grapefruit. The Cigars & Horses was a boozy mix of bourbon, yellow chartreuse, and smoked cinnamon. Los Rancheros Vistadores was a pleasantly bitter tequila cocktail, with reposado, amaro, Aperol, and orange olive oil. And the Pinochle Punch was a smooth blend of milk-clarified rye, cognac, and orange. We ordered wines by the glass to go with our entrees, and these were both lovely, too. The Sandlands Lodi Red Table Wine and the Racines Mattei's Cuvée, a Chardonnay that must have some connection to Mattei's Tavern. The food was delicious. We started with a half dozen oysters with mignonette and lemon and Gin's tuna carpaccio, topped with scallion, radish, ginger dressing, and cold-pressed California olive oil. Then we had Mattei's house focaccia, served with cultured butter and herb oil, and the country pâté, with cherry, tarragon, and sourdough. The entrées were both excellent. The Channel Islands rockfish was beautifully cooked, served in a vibrant tomatillo sauce with hoja santa, with sides of roti, grilled avocado, and grilled lime. The Colorado lamb was tender and juicy with a nice spiced crust. It came with couscous, vadouvan, mint yogurt, onion, and dates. For dessert, we shared the affogato: vanilla ice cream, Handlebar espresso. Hard to think of a better way to wind down a big meal. We charged dinner to the room and got $100 through a hotel promotion. This covered some of our drinks. The Tavern is not a cheap restaurant, but it is a great one, well worth checking out on your visit to Los Olivos.

Service is where things fell short both times. It took about 40 minutes to get our breakfast after ordering, and it was pretty obvious the plates had been sitting under a heat lamp for a bit. I used to work in food service, so it's something I tend to notice. We weren't in a rush, but we did need to be in and out within an hour. By the time the food came, we had maybe 15 minutes to eat and had to ask for the check right away just to stay on schedule. Overall, it's a great spot if you have the time to hang, but I'd be cautious coming here if you're on any kind of timeline.
