On our drive from San Simeon to Ventura Harbor along California's Central Coast, we stopped roughly half way for a restroom break in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. There we found Roblar Winery which was completely unplanned and such a happy accident! I cannot recall ever visiting such a beautiful, rustic winery. They featured a delightful selection of wines as well as a locally sourced food menu. I had the Wood-Fired Sausage Pizza which was just excellent. I've explored a lot of California but this was my first experience of driving across San Marcos pass through Santa Ynez. I wasn't even aware it was wine country until I started researching places to stop. When I read about Roblar Vineyard, I added it to my "not to be missed" spots. And am I glad that I did! It's a beautiful facility. I came in early in the morning and was able to enjoy walking around the grounds a bit before I enjoyed lunch at the cafe. The setting is quite lovely. The wine was wonderful. I had the GSG, which was out of this world. Smooth as Grenache, with the Syrah and Graciano adding a lot of personality and flavor. Like the stone fruit that was all over California on this trip--flavorful and juicy! Delicious. The winery has their own farm so they also have a produce stand that sells their food. The service was also perfect. Very courteous and suggests what your palate feels like tasting/eating. We were recommended from friends to go here and they were right, Roblar is great and does not disappoint. A really nice palate cleanser between bites. The Wood-fired Roblar Farm Pizza was a standout. Crispy, garlicky, and slightly smoky from the oven, with a subtle curry note that gave it a warm, aromatic depth. It almost ate like a savory garlic naan in pizza form, which made it incredibly addictive. Im going to leave 5 stars because i absolutely love this place. I've been a member for years and have introduced many people here, celebrated birthdays, and it's always the first place my husband asks if I want to go to when we have free time. I want to mention that I've had Kim serve us once before yesterday and she was so rude. I went with a group of girls and it was such an awful and embarrassing experience. I had to explain to my friends (first time there) that maybe it was an off day because they are always so kind and we've always had a great time. Well this weekend we went again with our kids and I saw she was going to be our server. I told my husband, "That's the server that was so, so rude to us last time but maybe she was just having a bad day." My husband and I took our kids after feeding them lunch elsewhere because their kids and don't appreciate or like Roblar's amazing food. We stopped at Trader Joe's and bought a few snacks to keep them entertained. Mind you, my husband and I each had a glass, then a bottle, a members board and each ordered lunch. Kim happens to come by and see cookies from Trader Joe's on the table, and of course she's going to say something. She asked if we can put them away because no outside food is allowed. I told my husband I was not surprised at all. None of the servers would of said a thing. If you're a parent it's very normal to take your kids snacks to keep them to behave. Fantastic experience. Highly recommended. Great use of time if you're going to spend it at a winery in the Santa Ynez area. It's not just the wine (it's very good wine), their food is very good too. The service is top notch. The tour and wine education is way better than most; you experience a relationship with the entire ownership and staff. This is a professional, high quality establishment but it's not a mcmanison winery. It's not a transaction. After the tour and tasting, we visited two other wineries; they're good and charming too, which seems to be the culture in Santa Ynez unlike Napa or areas of Paso. Once again, big thanks to the Red Dining Book, I found a new favorite winery! A great winery with good food is always a huge plus for me since I'm not a big drinker. Good wines, delicious food, beautiful winery. This place is a must visit! Came here with my neighbor since she spoke fondly of Roblar, and the fact that all their food pics just look so mouth watering. The winery is on the smaller side, but they have a decent indoor tasting room, and a beautiful outdoor patio with gorgeous wisteria at this time of year. First time here I opted for a glass of 2021 petite sirah and thoroughly enjoyed it. The second time I came back with my family and went for the tasting (BOGO with the Red Dining Book). All the food we have tried here were delicious! On Thursday they have fried chicken special that comes with a side salad, and the most delicious biscuit! I'm still dreaming of that biscuit and definitely going to ask next time if I can just order the biscuits a la carte lol. Their outdoor patio also has a wonderful small garden with homegrown veggies and flowers. Great for a little stroll before or after your meal/tasting. Both times we've been here, our wait staff have been wonderful and extremely friendly. Besides the food being on a more pricey side, we really have no complaints at all. We made reservations for 2, just a couple of hours in advance of our arrival. In case we hit the Saturday lunch crowd. Got there and we were seated promptly. Outdoor seating was wonderful, tables are all pretty far apart so you don't feel cramped and servers are all friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about their menu, including the wine menu and can make wise recommendations. Good tasting wines, especially the white ones we tried. Food was excellent, we tried the garden pizza and a Cobb salad and both were really good. We decided to get a few light snacks to hold us over to dinner and share a bottle of white wine for the table. Don't get me wrong, The wine was fantastic... But the food, the food was definitely the star of the show. For me, when it comes to food, I'm all about the presentation. And whomever plated our dishes that day... Absolutely NAILED IT! (A++ to you) To complement our wine, we ordered a dish of their garlic hummus served with house made pita as well as their charcuterie board. In hindsight, it was the wine that complemented our food. Meh. Out of our day of tastings, this was my least favorite stop. On the plus side, the food was specTACular. I'm still dreaming about that Pork Schnitzel. And they have a massive outdoor patio with lots of seating. We were actually seated outside by a fireplace, which was perfect, because I'm always the cold one with my group of friends. On the not-so-plus side...the wines were pretty blah, on checking-in the welcome was not on the warm side, and they were VERY understaffed....so understaffed that we were waiting about 15 minutes between pours, and I finally had to go track down our server for the check because she never came back to check on us. So, all in all, not a horrible winery, but there are so many fabulous options in the region, I recommend a hard pass on this one. read more
