I did not care for the food, war of won soup had only 2 shrimp and my other item had no favor

As a youth, my parents ordered takeout monthly from "the King!" Lena and associates go above and beyond with excellent service. You'll find the usual delicacies here and then some. They have a plethora of goodies to stuff yourself. Whether it's Beef, seafood or vegetarian. This spot that is second to none. The food was light, yet full of flavor. My bf said his family had been coming here for over 10 years. The place has not changed at all since then. During the pandemic it looks like they threw away some of the dusty decor but that's about it. They have one server and he was rude imo. It was my first time ordering and was asking for the lunch specials and he told me that there was no rolls or salad available yet, so just order the plates and the order with white rice or fried rice. Well he brought on the plane and to be honest Only one of the seven plates tasted good. The rest were below subpar. The rice was never brought out. We were forced to each order soup which the kids didn't like or touch. The egg drop soup was not delicious. The rice never came. The only reason I give it a few stars is because hot tea is complementary and what I believe was one of the owners gave the children cookies and he was very sweet. The place has ample parking and there was a lot of people of older age so maybe they just go there because they have been going there their whole life so out of habit. Anyways, I will not be returning because it wasn't good in my opinion, but I'm glad they survive the pandemic because it seems to be a family owned restaurant. read more

I came to Mandarin King with a large group of people. We shared our food and loved all of the dishes we ordered. I wish there was at least one Chinese restaurant in the East Valley that had delicious, fresh food like this one. The curry chicken was delicious. We ordered beef with broccoli, lamb, moo shu pork, soft noodles with shrimp, and tangerine chicken. They were all great dishes served in large portions. It took a while for them to take our order. I literally had not been here for over 20 years. Was in the neighborhood and needed to stop by. Nice portion for lunch. We have been coming to this place for over a decade. The food never fails to satify. They are always consistent in serving delicious food. The decor has not been update in ages so the ambiance is old. Dishes like shrimp in lobster sauce, kung pao chicken, hot garlic fish(not too spicy), eggplant, crispy green beans and the soups are all great choices. Only reason not 5 stars is because they are not very friendly. Definitely keep coming back for the food. read more

I have been coming to Mandarin King since I was a teenager. I originally came with family, and then starting introducing my friends to this gem. It has been in business for the entirety of my life. The food is consistently authentic, the portions are generous, and the owner - Jerry is an awesome man who cares about his customers. My favorite dish is the Kung Pao Chicken. This was my favorite Chinese food spot. The food is amazing but if you're gonna order for delivery or take out they'll tell you a 30 min wait but really it's almost a 2 hour wait. I use to come here for pick up all the time so sad I won't be spending anymore money here. read more

I was here for a baby shower and so I was able to eat a lot of the food they offer. With multiple rounds of plates coming to our table and being really hungry, it probably wouldn't have taken much to impress me. After all the food, the only plate that was memorable was the orange chicken. Unlike other places it seems like they only use the more expensive white meat and it was really good. This was not your Panda Express orange chicken. This was legit. If I were to try this place again, it would only be for their orange chicken. read more

Everytime I order from them I have to wait 15-30 mins to order in person when there is no one inside and the lady in the front is just sitting there so I order delivery this time just to get told that he isn't allowed to park in the front of my house when I have lived here for over 10 years. The portions are large and the food is really tasty.we love the sweet and sour shrimp! The sauce comes on the side so you can put on as much or little as you want. Egg rolls are very good. You can't go wrong with whatever you order here. read more

My family has been coming to this place for decades. Best Mandarin and Schezwan style Chinese food. We love everything we've had here so far, especially the mapo tofu with less oil with extra green onions and with chicken instead of pork - so umami and flavorful!!, imperial shrimp, noodles with shrimp, king pao, steamed fish, tangerine chicken, tangerine shrimp, schezwan chicken, jalapeño chicken, Mongolian beef, walnut shrimp. Their food really balances umami, sweet, and sour excellently. They have lunch specials daily even on weekends and the prices are great, portions large. You can choose fried rice or steamed rice with their lunch specials, and can order some dishes not on the lunch special menu as a lunch special. Their egg rolls, egg drop soup, sizzling rice, and hot and hour soups are also delicious. This family owned restaurant has been around for many decades and I worry that when they retire it will close and we will lose this iconic gem and beacon of awesome savory Chinese cuisine. read more

I giving the 1 star out of courtesy, the app. wouldn't let me give them zero stars. My family and I made reservations for Christmas Day at 6:30pm. Even though we made these reservations in advance they did not sit us, we were told there is no more room for us and to go somewhere else. The restaurant lobby was packed with people trying to pick up there online orders , people where waiting longer then 10mins to check in and there food wasn't even ready yet despite them placing there order earlier in the day. If the owners know that Christmas Day is a super busy day why not plan better. read more

I am absolutely disappointed with this place. I've been a customer for over 10 years. Don't get me wrong, the food is great if and when they pick up the phone. I had called numerous times, and when I finally got thru, the older gentlemen on the phone screames to hold on. He then continues to place me on hold for over 12 mins while a woman is arguing with him. After everything calms down, while I am on hold, picks up another call, tells them their total, and hangs up. Lamb tasted gamey and bland I could not eat more then two bites Egg rolls were soft and 3/4 were broken during frying, tasted grease Fried rice was bland and needed a lot of soy sauce to be eatable . Mandarin King used to be so good. I have been a Patron for many years and definitely did my share of supporting them during the pandemic but my experience the last couple of times have been horrible for delivery. Tonight I placed an order at 5:36 with an estimated delivery at 6:21. At 6:45 I called to check on the order and my call was treated with a canned response of "we are busy and it's almost ready". I asked how she knew which order it was and she said she assumed it was who just called. When we straightened that out she said "oh, I didn't notice it was for delivery". So I asked if that means my food has been ready and sitting there getting cold. At that point, I would have come and picked it up. The line went silent and all of a sudden a man got on the line and started yelling at me that they are busy and my order wasn't ready. At this point it was 6:55. He told me the food was leaving in 3 minutes. My delivery finally arrived at 7:20 (an hour late and almost 2 hours after ordering). How was the food-some of it was cold, some was fresh, order was wrong. Would I order from here again...maybe. read more

Mandarin King does a great job of handling large parties. They have huge round tables that can seat 14, and they time the dishes well. Service is great, and they were even accommodating to my no gluten diet - this is unheard of for a Chinese restaurant, I think! The restaurant was also accommodating to cook up a fish that one of the people in our party had caught themselves. I thought that was really cool of them. We found all the dishes to be very tasty overall - especially the West Lake Soup, egg rolls, and pork ribs. Would definitely recommend if you have a large party. read more

My family and I have been coming to Mandarin King since I was a child. This is definitely our go-to Chinese restaurant. The food is always consistent and delicious; we've never left disappointed. The service is always efficient and friendly and since we've been dining here for years, the owners treat us like family. The pork soft noodles and tangerine chicken are my absolute favorites! The noodles are alway soft and the seasoning is just right. If you like chow mein, then you'll love their soft noodles. The only thing that I've ever thought was strange about this restaurant is that there's literally no windows. Exccelent place if you enjoy Chinese authentic food. We can over the weekend to try at this location fir the very first time. The prices are reasonable and fresh made from family owned. I like their dinner special combo that comes with with two choice of soup, appetizer, and pick you choice if entree. Their kan pao, sweet spice chicken with rice is so delicious. The servers are wonderful and very kind. I love their seat how comfortable and their atmosphere is very relaxing. I really enjoy coming. All their meals are sever fast and fresh made. I was there for a weekday lunch. Ample parking! :-) The restaurant is no-frills. The menu is well-worn cardboard/paper; the napkins are paper too. My waiter/host was not friendly, and in my experience this is often the case in Chinese restaurants. He seemed overworked due to understaffing. He didn't ask how my dining experience was. On the other hand, he was very efficient and quick, considering. There was a man who I presume is the owner, who was chatting in a very friendly manner with a group of diners that were regulars. He was very engaging. Mid-September 2022 the lunch-special prices ranged from $10 to $13. There were perhaps 15 lunch options. Most options included the choice of hot and sour or egg drop soup, one eggroll, and fried/crispy noodles served with a delicious plum sauce. Complimentary hot tea. I ordered chicken chop suey, which I think is among the healthier choices. Steamed or fried rice were free, but brown rice was a steep $3.50. A tax on diabetics, in essence. The dish was very delicious, including bok choy (Chinese cabbage), water chestnuts, broccoli, carrots, snap peas and mushrooms, presumably champignon. The chicken was nice and soft, the thickish sauce soothing but not too plentiful. The portion size was quite generous. Finished off with a fortune cookie. Overall, a satisfying experience. read more
