Old school place here first impression. Have asked for dark browned waffle, 2 eggs medium, and lovely lady suggested bacon. Am very anxious for foods to appear. Well eggs were ok. Bacon small portion 2 strips but ok. Waffles...must be difficult to make good ones. Rarely get that. Batter on this one like cake dough or ? that is the apparent normal for pancakes and waffles most restaurants. Is...yuk. Need to do better. Probly not return. And am surprised here. I don't understand how anyone could enjoy this restaurant. The service was absolutely atrocious. Our waiter look like he rolled out of bed and came to work. He couldn't quit yawning and complained every time he was given a table. I asked for chips and hot sauce twice and he said certainly and never brought it. ROACH INFESTED!!! Everything was going good, we've eaten here two times the food was amazing. Mama's has great food and service. We stopped going to Pasidas and eat Mexican food here that is just as good but you pay much less. Marcados and Pasidas have both gone up in price and no longer give free sopapillas. Mamas has a better product for less money in my opinion. read more

Wonderful! Locals of all sorts were eating there. Service was like being family. The food was wonderful. I had the multi grain pancakes which were hearty and moist. I was asked for 5 or 2. Chose 2 with a side of bacon. Really made my day when I was asked if I wanted crispy bacon. It was perfectly crispy! read more

IHOP who?? At 8:30 am I ordered the steak omelette with a waffle, I was more than satisfied with what my eyes seen for less than $13.00. The waffle was so buttery and crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside, very mouth watering! I went all day without eating another meal until 7 pm! Mamas keep doing what you do best. We were visiting Tyler and needed a good breakfast spot to get our day started. We found Mama's on Yelp and off we went. The food is great and so is the service. We were warmly welcomed and quickly got our drinks. My son made a mess all over our table and floor beneath us and the waitress was so sweet about it and told us not to worry. Used to be a fantastic local place to eat. The best sausage gravy and biscuits I have ever had. The service has always been impeccable. We moved away from Tyler back in 2016 and moved back last year. After trying mamas again, it has turned around for the worst. Not a very friendly greeting at the door, very so so service and extremely slow, we waited forever for our food. From what I have heard Mama's was opened by someone who used to work at an IHOP or Denny's. Rumors or not I did feel a similar vibe coming from the food. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs breakfast and wasn't too pleased when I received the meal. The chicken fried steak was small and the eggs were bland, which is usually standard at similar places. The overall meal itself was satisfactory, especially considering the price I was contempt. For the price of the dishes I would most certainly say you are getting what you pay for, decent food for a good price. We were in Tyler for a Dr. apt. Not wanting to spend a fortune for a decent lunch. It was about 2 pm and there were a few tables busy. Our total bill was $18.80. we had tilapia, stuffed potato and broccoli with water, and hamburger steak with onion rings and green beans and unsweet tea. The food arrived as ordered, the portions were perfect for a late lunch and temperatures were appropriate for the item. We did get lemon with our drinks even though we ordered none. Our unsweet tea was refilled with sweet. The salsa was some of the best I have had in the area. We will be back.. read more

Sat there for over 10 minutes with our open menus, several servers walked past our table to tables around us and not one approached us to see if we had been helped or get our drink orders. The table next to us got their food, the table behind us got their bill, and the table across from us was approached as soon as they sat down. I moved to tyler 2 yrs ago, and have been looking for a "Country Food" cafe. Finally I found mama's...Very cute inside, but deceiving on the outside...Looks more like a small Mexican Restaurant. BUT... the food was Tolerable. I Odered Chicken fried Steak,mashed potato's with white gravy & green beans. It was a breaded cutlet (not Handmade) covered with gravy, the mashed potato's was perfect!! and the green beans had dried up bacon in them, but tasted old. Not Very happy at all. As a retired Chef.....I was Saddened with the performance from the cooking. This place could be GREAT with a little "Homemade" cooking lesson on "Country Foods" I took most home. Its down the street from a Hospital and several Clinics. could be GREAT!! But I guess it will do for now. :( read more

We were recently in Tyler and had lunch at Manma's. We are big barbacoa fans , so we both ordered their barbacoa plate. Wow, it was the best I have had in some time and the portions were huge! While we were there we also noticed their breakfast menu, so we went back the next morning to try it out. My wife ordered am omlette and I had the machacha plate. both were excellent and the portion size was enormous. The staff is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend Mama's. read more

This is the real deal when it comes to comfort food. Breakfast, lunch, supper in an off the beat path (5th street) that serves good food. I recommend the Migas but the pancakes are good too. Enchiladas are spot on and you can't go wrong with the Barbacoa. Lets eat! read more

What a pleasant surprise! My wife and I went here for lunch. My wife ordered the eggs and country potatoes plate; I ordered the pork chops #12 lunch special with onion rings and salad. Very simple food, and the prices reflect that appropriately. Although my wife is new to country life and didn't like country potatoes because they are somewhat mushy compared to hash browns, they were fine. I received TWO GIANT bone-in pork chops that were slathered in butter and fried to perfection. The restaurant has a rustic, sort of Mexican cantina feel. The two stars is for the service!!! It was great!! My boyfriend and I both had the senior breakfast, his with over medium eggs, mine scrambled with cheese, it comes with bacon or sausage and two pancakes. We chose bacon and ordered an extra side of bacon to share ( we love bacon ). Our order came out in a timely manner (they were pretty busy), but as soon as she set our plates down I wasn't thrilled . His eggs looked disgusting with the brown grease ring around them and mine had this weird color to them and just didn't look good on my plate. All good- I've still got pancakes and bacon, right?!? Ummm no- the bacon was fried in old grease ( maybe scrape off the flat top once in awhile?) and had a funky side flavor - just yuck! Pancakes had been sitting under a warmer - certainly not just made- because when I put my butter on it the "top" of my pancake came off! We both left our eggs- he ate all the bacon and I had one of two pancakes while he ate both. We always try to eat at local places when traveling. It's about time that I wrote a review for this little slice of dive heaven my beau and I found on an East Texas weekender. Of course, I went to Yelp every chance I got so we could enjoy some local flair. Tyler, in and of itself, is a diamond in the rough. And this place is no exception. Aside from the "dirty" reviews that you'll read below mine, everyone had pretty great things to say about Mama's! Slighty hungover and on our way out of town, we needed some greasy mid-day grub to get us to Canton for some flea market shopping. I loved the funky and homemade spray paint decor and the multi-level seating options. The staff was super sweet and we laughed as they gave each other a hard time from the kitchen. I ordered the breakfast taquitos after seeing them on every table around us and couldn't have been happier. They were savory, greasy, and amazingly tasty. I got 2 and could hardly finish 1 - for $1.98/piece, you can't beat it. My sweetheart got the chicken fried steak and he was thrilled with his choice.
