Service - 5 Stars Food - 2 Stars Atmosphere - 1 Star Menu was disappointing. Not enough options for traditional Mexican food. They only had a Tex-Mex section. Lunch Specials end at 3pm or you have to be over 60. Got a Steak Quesadilla. Never seen it done like this before - Tortilla on bottom, steak in in middle, cheese on top. Definitely not a quesadilla, but it was still tasty. Chips and Salsa included when you sit down. The salsas were good, but there were no tiny plates included with the chips. Salsa drips all over the table because of this. Salsas were delicious! We also ordered the guacamole that was $5.00 for happy hour. The guacamole was great. Flan for desert was a 7/10. My date did mention that there were a few curdles. Service was great. Our waiter was super friendly and prompt. Atmosphere... the most obnoxious music plays... It's like 00's Pop Rock EN ESPAÑOL. And it's too loud. I had high hopes for this place, but I don't think I'll be back.

YUM-MIEEEE! One word! I stumbled across this Gem and decided to give it a try. Abuelos is the "Go-To" spot to be in T-Town for that Mexican food craving!! They didn't disappoint. Tried their Alambre Lunch, 3 Fire Grilled Shrimp Plate for $17.49. OMG! So flavorful!! I enjoyed it so much, my mouth is watering just thinking about the flavor to write into words... so SO good! Also tried their Raspberry Hibiscus Margarita for $12.50... Spectacular! I will definitely be back!

Hostesses-little incentive. Waitress Anna was Superb, courteus & professional & informative. Made our dining a pleasure. Large dining area good ambiance. The chips and three salsas were excellent. Regular, Pineapple green, & spicy.Good enough for me to buy a quart of the green & spicy. The Queso had a great consistency and flavor. Nice thin chips. We had the beef fajitas without bells peppers and with black beans. The beef was tender and Marinated in an appealing seasoning. In addition, we had a watermelon margarita that was very tasty, not too sweet or tart. The hand shaken platinum margarita complemented the meal.

    Baked Veggie Quesadilla

Oh my gosh! This food was AMAZING! The black beans were the best I've EVER had!!! By the way, I eat a lot of them. They were tender and full of flavor. The 3 of us had Chicken Fajita Tacos, a baked Veggie Quesadilla, and a Senior Menu Enchilada and Taco. Service was great and the atmosphere upscale and clean. We will be back as this is now out favorite Mexican Restaurant in Tyler!

This restaurant is overpriced for the food served. The waiter, doubling as bartender, was not well trained.

The flavors were fresh, the portions were solid, and the prices felt very reasonable for the quality. The customer service stood out as well. The staff were friendly, quick, and made the visit smooth from start to finish. The only small downside was that I had to clean my booth before sitting down, but once that was taken care of everything else was spot on. Overall, a really enjoyable lunch with great food, good value, and excellent service. I would definitely come back.

Usually, everything is consistently fresh, hot and yummy. Today was a bit of a disappointment however. Our tacos were cold, were served with no sauce (had to ask for the sauce that's supposed to come with the tacos) and just weren't great overall. I'm hoping this is a one-off and that this won't be a new trend. The bacon in my breakfast taco was soggy bits of...idk. Didn't taste like bacon. The 'crispy' potatoes were also soggy and cold. We did order a new item - the loaded nachos with fajita meat on top. They were really tasty, but there wasn't a ton of queso on them, so next time will ask for additional queso. Nachos just aren't nachos unless there's some dunkin' cheese. They were also served without any salsa or sauce. Also, the tables and the bathrooms weren't clean. Very unusual as this location is usually top notch! I'm really hoping they were just having a bad day today and will definitely be back to give them another chance!

We asked for mango- we got regular and she never checked on us so we couldn't tell her it was wrong. The "nachos" were meat throw on a fried tortilla and cheese over it! Come on presentation matters! I have to srat with a warning of, STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY. I…read moregave a 1 Star only because it won't let me give a 0 star. My girlfriend and I wanted to have a good meal and stopped here at On The Border. Saturday May 2, 2016 at 7pm we wanted to walk down memory lane with OTB. BIG MISTAKE. Upon walking in, saw the guy working the tortilla station having to scrape tortillas off the press. Should have been a warning. We had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated and everything went downhill from there. The server was very nice and helpful. When she brought the salsa out, we tried it. We both were disappointed that it was Salsa Verde and not regular salsa. But it was greasy and had a burned taste. It was a greenish Grey hue and absolutely pureed down to almost nothing but pulp and juice. We asked the male manager "What is this?" and if they could bring us regular salsa and he said they dont have regular salsa. He explained they had been bought out by Papas Restaurant and have changed menu items and some policies. Alright, but not cool. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Fajita and I ordered the Starter Sampler. Nothing on either plate was up to par with even American food. Being Mexican food it was dreadful. All food came out and nothing was hot enough to have just been cooked. The Fajita plate wasn't even a sizzle. The Chicken on the Fajita plate had no Fajita seasoning on it. It was just a grilled chicken breast sliced unevenly and no consistent sizing or cuts. The plate had no Perppers, only a large onion thick sliced and only half cooked. The menu stated that the plate would have grilled vegetables. But we got only onion. And it was barely warm and very greasy. Also, it was served with a garlic butter that was overpowered with garlic powder. It was almost un-eatable. Also, the tortillas were small and misshapen. Very much unimpressive. Also, the rice was undercooked and refried beans were disgusting to look at. On the Stater Sampler, all the food was oily and overcooked and came out half cold. When the plate hit the table there was a bit of cheese from the chicken quesadillas, that I thought was currently melting off the side of the plate. NO. It had already set so long after dripping off the side, it had cooled and solidified. I had to cut it off and find a place for it. My girlfriend thought it was a chip when I placed it on top of the Salsa Verde that we had refused to eat. The beef on the Beef Nachos looked as if it had been overcooked before being put on the Nacho chip with the cheese and in the oven, it almost burned. Looked inedible and was not very tasty. The Chicken Flauta was cold but had a decent taste. The Pico and the Guacamole were the best looking pieces of the plate. The female manager on duty spoke with us and understand our frustrations. She was apologetic and frustrated. She asked if there was some way to make our experience better, to which we had to say no. We told her that we would not be back. And if they serve this kind of food, we will not and tell everyone not to go. She even took care of the ticket as we had barely touched our food and hoped we would have a better experience next time or wherever we decided to eat. She even said the food was not up to par. I would NOT recommend this restaurant and would go as far as to tell everyone to AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE. I do not wish this kind of experience even on my worst enemy. The managers and wait staff were the only reason I did not make a scene while voicing my frustrations. The staff who work here do not deserve to be put through this as much as patrons do not. With the menu and policy changes, I do not see them lasting much longer as a restaurant. DO NOT GO
