That "fish oil mayonnaise" (left) and the second worst salsa I've ever put on a chip. Entirely inedible.
    Steve A.

The Texas (or the Mexican flag) is not large enough the shame this restaurant brings the very term "Tex-Mex". This place may look all "bougie" inside but it proved to be "a dump of the highest order." The Mayonaise based stuff they leave on the tables was enjoyed by a few old time regular customers (reportedly this atrocity goes way back.) As for the rest of us... it tasted nasty... It has a "fish oil" taste and the viscosity of thin grease. The Salsa in comparison, was one step above the worst I've ever put on a chip... "Mule Sauce" from New York (yes, really). However it was still far from edible. We were all but forced to order Queso which had a taste of "canned and bland" if it was even that good. It begs the question, why don't they just put some Brookshire Brand Salsa and Canned Nacho Cheese out. They could probably get a deal on it. As for my Enchilada platter. I was served dead last at my table only after they seemingly realized I'd been forgotten. The plate they brought was the only one at the table served by an ungloved hand... The plate was hotter than hell... But the food was room temperature and tasted as if it had been cooked, left to cool then reheated and allowed to cool again (it had about 20 minutes to do just that.) The cheese was hard and thick. But aside from all of that... the flavor was inexcusably horrendous. The spices seemed either "based on a dare" or just "haphazardly chosen and doused, with closed eyes"... Whatever it was... those spices did not belong in a TexMex dish (or kitchen.) Two bites and I was done. As the others at my table were experiencing quite similar catastrophes ranging from "Gulf Shrimp" that was perhaps procured from "a gulf" in China, to Improperly cooked and plated dishes... I decided to not even bother adding another complaint and or sending my food back. Nothing else on the table (my friends had) looked any better than what I got. Hell they couldn't even get Nachos right. I just paid my bill and went on. Never to return to that dump. I should have checked Yelp first and I would have had more realistic expectations. (I'd have still gone to be with my friends and listen to the live music... but would have eaten elsewhere first.) Taco Bell is 10 steps up the ladder from what this place serves. Seriously!

We were disappointed in this place. Nobody greets you at the door, seat yourself but no acknowledgement that they actually saw you find in. Wait staff confused on who to serve first. Food was not hot or flavorful. No one comes to see if you need anything or refills. Small servings. Will not be back. Only thing positive was the decor

Chips and orange sauce (don't know what it's called) are our favorite in town, and the tortilla soup is always delish.

The flavors were fresh, the portions were solid, and the prices felt very reasonable for the quality. The customer service stood out as well. The staff were friendly, quick, and made the visit smooth from start to finish. The only small downside was that I had to clean my booth before sitting down, but once that was taken care of everything else was spot on. Overall, a really enjoyable lunch with great food, good value, and excellent service. I would definitely come back.

Usually, everything is consistently fresh, hot and yummy. Today was a bit of a disappointment however. Our tacos were cold, were served with no sauce (had to ask for the sauce that's supposed to come with the tacos) and just weren't great overall. I'm hoping this is a one-off and that this won't be a new trend. The bacon in my breakfast taco was soggy bits of...idk. Didn't taste like bacon. The 'crispy' potatoes were also soggy and cold. We did order a new item - the loaded nachos with fajita meat on top. They were really tasty, but there wasn't a ton of queso on them, so next time will ask for additional queso. Nachos just aren't nachos unless there's some dunkin' cheese. They were also served without any salsa or sauce. Also, the tables and the bathrooms weren't clean. Very unusual as this location is usually top notch! I'm really hoping they were just having a bad day today and will definitely be back to give them another chance!

My girlfriend and I wanted to have a good meal and stopped here at On The Border. Saturday May 2, 2016 at 7pm we wanted to walk down memory lane with OTB. BIG MISTAKE. Upon walking in, saw the guy working the tortilla station having to scrape tortillas off the press. Should have been a warning. We had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated and everything went downhill from there. The server was very nice and helpful. When she brought the salsa out, we tried it. We both were disappointed that it was Salsa Verde and not regular salsa. But it was greasy and had a burned taste. It was a greenish Grey hue and absolutely pureed down to almost nothing but pulp and juice. We asked the male manager "What is this?" and if they could bring us regular salsa and he said they dont have regular salsa. He explained they had been bought out by Papas Restaurant and have changed menu items and some policies. Alright, but not cool. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Fajita and I ordered the Starter Sampler. Nothing on either plate was up to par with even American food. Being Mexican food it was dreadful. All food came out and nothing was hot enough to have just been cooked. The Fajita plate wasn't even a sizzle. The Chicken on the Fajita plate had no Fajita seasoning on it. It was just a grilled chicken breast sliced unevenly and no consistent sizing or cuts. The plate had no Perppers, only a large onion thick sliced and only half cooked. The menu stated that the plate would have grilled vegetables. But we got only onion. And it was barely warm and very greasy. Also, it was served with a garlic butter that was overpowered with garlic powder. It was almost un-eatable. Also, the tortillas were small and misshapen. Very much unimpressive. Also, the rice was undercooked and refried beans were disgusting to look at. On the Stater Sampler, all the food was oily and overcooked and came out half cold. When the plate hit the table there was a bit of cheese from the chicken quesadillas, that I thought was currently melting off the side of the plate. NO. It had already set so long after dripping off the side, it had cooled and solidified. I had to cut it off and find a place for it. My girlfriend thought it was a chip when I placed it on top of the Salsa Verde that we had refused to eat. The beef on the Beef Nachos looked as if it had been overcooked before being put on the Nacho chip with the cheese and in the oven, it almost burned. Looked inedible and was not very tasty. The Chicken Flauta was cold but had a decent taste. The Pico and the Guacamole were the best looking pieces of the plate. The female manager on duty spoke with us and understand our frustrations. She was apologetic and frustrated. She asked if there was some way to make our experience better, to which we had to say no. We told her that we would not be back. And if they serve this kind of food, we will not and tell everyone not to go. She even took care of the ticket as we had barely touched our food and hoped we would have a better experience next time or wherever we decided to eat. She even said the food was not up to par. I would NOT recommend this restaurant and would go as far as to tell everyone to AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE. I do not wish this kind of experience even on my worst enemy. The managers and wait staff were the only reason I did not make a scene while voicing my frustrations. The staff who work here do not deserve to be put through this as much as patrons do not. With the menu and policy changes, I do not see them lasting much longer as a restaurant. DO NOT GO
