It was a very busy Saturday night but they were not fully booked. I think proper training for the staff is important especially to keep the experiences the same for all customers. My appetizer was missing some stuff that I saw another waitress carry out (the same appetizer) fully loaded. Esquites is messy without a spoon, my friends. Everything felt messy and the napkins were not easy to ask for when everyone is running by. The prices on the menu do not match what is charged. I'm not sure why but our meal was a lot less expensive than anticipated, not a bad thing, but I wish the prices were clear because I would have ordered something different. Speaking of the menu, dang. That thing is a beast! It took me so long just to get through it and decide what I wanted. If you can find an online version study up! The food was quick and fresh. I have no complaints there! The soft-serve margarita was everything I hoped it would be. Lastly, the restroom ruined my whole night. It is a cesspool and thinking of the staff also washing and using the facilities makes me cringe. I can only speak for the ladies room when I say the temperature was a good 20 degrees warmer than the rest of the building. There was NO circulation, so guess what? All the stank stays in the stall. We had a long day at work and looking for a place open late. Most places closed at 8 but we found Aztec since they stayed open till midnight. The inside was pleasantly decorated with bold colors and modern furniture. The staff were efficient and welcoming. We enjoyed the food. I got the Aztec plate and my partner got a taco meal. We got here about 8:45 on a Monday night for dinner for my husband and I. The waiters and waitress were sitting at the bar being extremely loud. I asked if we could have a very small sample of their queso (so we did not waste it and return it if we did not like it.) The waiter said no. We were left without drink refills for awhile. Our food (beef) was very undercooked, but after waiting over 10 minutes to even talk to someone we just said forget it, ate the rice and paid our check so we could leave. The music is also extremely too loud. What went wrong: -lack of drink refills -undercooked food -no salsa refill What could improve? -an attentive server -turn down the music a bit -close earlier if you don't want to serve people -COOK food to proper temps. First, I was happy that this restaurant was open late and was convenient after a long day at work. We were seated promptly and the staff was friendly. The inside was very trendy and a great place for photos. They do have loud music, just FYI. They have a large drink menu and several beers on draft. Their food menu is HUGE (several pages long); not complaining, but can feel a little overwhelming when trying to decide what to eat. Tonight was the 2nd time we have attempted to eat here. The first time the wait was over an hour. No food is worth that. Tonight we got seated immediately by a young man wearing black service gloves who then went and got us chips and salsa about 4-5 minutes later after seating us. (I personally don't think he changed them out, but whatever) Then we continued to sit and wait. Another 5 minutes and a woman said I'm sorry, let me at least get you something to drink. We ordered water with lemon and she scurried off. Then another server came up and apologized and said" sorry we're short handed, can I get you a drink?" We indicated she had taken it. Then he went to the kitchen and started talking to her. She had the water in her hands and proceeded to speak with the other server pointing and gesturing at us and another part of the restaurant. Obviously having a discussion about whose table it was. She brought the water and rushed off as we asked for salt and a straw. She came back and almost threw it on the table, obviously frustrated. We then continued to wait while all the staff sang Happy birthday to someone in the restaurant. Honestly, the music was loud like a club and the birthday announcement over the PA was obnoxiously loud as well. Having still no service to speak of, I was done. We got up and left and I noticed that there was a server taking an order of a new table that wasn't seated before we got there. For over 15 minutes we waited but nothing. Two people apologized but didn't correct anything. An apology without action basically means nothing. Just not my vibe. I won't be back. I actually love club music but not while trying to dine. I also didn't mention the table next to us FaceTimeing someone for 10 minutes while we were waiting. Rude. read more

One waitress kept going to the bar and getting shots for one table, seems as if she was participating in taking the shots with them. Let's be honest, this place is new but has been opened since March. What a disaster. We visited on 7/4. Staff and service were extremely slow. Ok, it's a holiday so maybe staffing was short. The aroma alone was enough to make you temporarily forget the chips and salsa you just devoured like it was your last meal. It sat atop a bed of grilled onions, bell peppers and tomatoes that were caramelized but still had bite, not mushy like sad fajita wannabes. They don't skimp on the sides either. You get fresh pico de gallo, sour cream, and your choice of tortillas. I went with flour, soft and warm like a fresh hug. The refried beans and rice rounded it all out--comfort food, fiesta-style. Verdict: If you're looking for loud flavor and that classic "sizzle and stare" fajita vibe, Aztec delivers. Go hungry. Leave happy. New restaurants so of course we expected some problems. What we should never expect is rude staff and especially rude managers. This is not Mexican food!!!! This is typical East Texas Tex-Mex. Very expensive East Texas Tex-Mex food. Average price per plate starts at about $20 and goes way up from there. I don't mind paying more for decent food, but this was not decent food. It was lukewarm standard nothing special Tex-Mex food. Location is pretty bad considering it's all the way at the south end of Broadway and there's not very much parking. It started out promising, we got sat almost immediately and the place seemed clean and nice. THEN it took 10 minutes for someone to even come up to us and it was our server, she took our drink order and told us that someone was bringing up chips and salsa soon. She left, we got our chips, she came back another ten minutes later with the queso we ordered....still no drinks (just soda btw). Took our order and disappeared, the other very kind and attentive server was helping us more than ours. We got our food and it was NASTY, the tortillas were hard, the cheese in my quesadillas had a texture like it's been soaking in old grease for hours. We then asked for the check and Togo boxes because we did not want to cause any problems. It took her another 20 minutes to bring our check then never came back to got it and the manager actually stopped at our table and grab the check to ring us up. Then of course another 10 minutes to get our card back so we could leave. She chalked it up to everyone being behind but we were 1 of maybe 5 tables in the restaurant with 4 servers. I have been in the service industry for years so I am probably more understanding then what I should be but this was probably the worst service I've ever received and honestly there was no excuse for it besides just bad servers. read more

I have really wanted to like this place so I went three times before I posted a review. Unfortunately each time was more and more underwhelming. The staff is not friendly, not attentive and has no hospitality. They disappear into the back making it hard to request things or let them know how terrible something is. The steak fajita meat has no flavor and is tough as leather. My guacamole was delivered brown. When I asked for fresh it felt like it was a try bother. The bathroom smells horrible. It was gritty like it had never been washed. We ordered 2 draft Dos, waited 15 minutes and they never came, finally told the waiter to cancel it and left. I've never left a restaurant like this, but based off the uncleanliness that we saw in the short time we were there I am so glad we did. First time trying this place and WOOW! The atmosphere was super cute. The water Ruben was super friendly and walked through the menu and drink options. We visited with two picky kiddos and they did not mind making changes to keep them happy. I ordered the taco shots, so good! A hard 'No'! $20 margaritas served from a plastic clear dispenser you would expect for lemonade? No thanks. And I watched the bartender dilute it with water. Birria tacos with no cheese? I'm offended. Sat at the bar with TV's mounted at nearly ceiling height, which made them pointless unless you want a little side of neck pain with your meal. Most plates are $20 bucks and did not have the quality I had hoped for. Cool pottery out front, but saw trash inside of them. Then the pod with the open door behind the restaurant filled with #10 cans of beans, jalapeños, etc. This restaurant is very ambitious and tries all the right things, but misses the mark on almost every attempt. I just can't. There is enough competition for the low-end, faux high end TexMex vibe in Tyler to pass on this and never return.
