Food and drinks are amazing, however staff is very poorly trained. We always ask to sit on the patio and have had an issue now four different times. The hostesses are very confused and cannot seem to honor simple requests. We asked to sit near the water. There were plenty of tables available, however she tried sitting us next to a birthday party of 20 people in the very back corner of the patio. Next time, we were much more specific. On the patio, near the water, in the sun. Says no problem, then seats us under the covered section, nowhere near the water or the sun. Then she said the tables with umbrellas were reserved. I pointed to the left side of the patio which only had one table occupied. She said, oh ok then if that's what you want. She then realized she forgot to get us menus and grabbed some off a dirty table that had food crumbs all over them. I literally told her exactly what I wanted and it was completely ignored. This has been repeated multiple times. Simple requests, when the restaurant is not busy should be a no brainer, however they cannot seem to understand this. One time we just gave up and left since they tried sitting us twice and multiple other/better tables were available and for some reason we couldn't sit there. Manager intervened and said sure sit wherever you like, but the mood had already been soured by the inept and rude hostesses. read more

Since buying a home in Jacksonville, we were introduced to this restaurant. We love it! It is our favorite place to eat in Tyler. The food is great and we have had an amazing experience with Rick as our server two times. He is accommodating, funny and on the spot to meet our needs. Come Here Soon! Drove hours to meet a friend and she chose to meet here. What a grand discovery!! Like an oasis it just appears and is special. Beautiful and spacious inside; with a gorgeous outdoor patio with fountains and a place to feed the fish. Happily, the service (hostess/bartender/waitress) was equally wonderful. We were told on the phone that we could not make a reservation for a group of 10 but could come in and get on the waitlist which we did. We got to the restaurant and were informed by the hostess staff that they could not take a walk in party of 10 and that we should have made a reservation!! My wife and I decided to have a date night at Javi's tonight. This was our first time dining at this restaurant. Since it was a pleasant evening we decided to sit outside on the patio. At first things were going well. Then a handful of young children came out to the patio running around, screaming, and jumping on furniture (even standing on empty tables). The restaurant staff did nothing, and the children's parents obviously didn't care. My wife and I couldn't even have a conversation due to the noise. On top of that, it took an hour to get our food. By that time we both had headaches and were ready to leave, so we got most of our food to go. We raised four children and they only acted like that in places like Chuck E Cheese. read more

The ambiance of this place is cool, out on the water in the nicer part of town. Got a lot of recommendations for this place but I did not feel it lived up to the hype. The service was amazing however, Anastasia was truly one of the best servers I've ever met.. very personable and friendly! The food was mediocre at best. Javis in Tyler has such a great vibe. Warm, modern and just fancy enough to feel like I have my life together for an hour. The ambience is perfect for date night, girls night or when you just need an excuse to drink something pretty. Speaking of, the blood orange margarita is dangerous in the best way. Sweet, tart and way too easy to order another. I went with the shrimp enchiladas and they did not disappoint, full of flavor and plated like someone cared about my Instagram feed. The service was friendly and on point without hovering like an overzealous aunt at Thanksgiving. Ambiance, service, food, all very good. Went recently for a birthday slash going away dinner with colleagues and it was a very nice experience. The cheese dip was excellent and the chips are fresh and crisp. Drinks were yummy and our meals delicious. Parking can be tricky, especially in the evening and definitely recommend reservations for bigger gatherings but it all worth the wait. read more

To put it bluntly: the experience was terrible. From the moment we sat down, the atmosphere was chaotic. Kids were literally running wild--darting between tables, climbing over railings near the pond, opening windows right behind us, and even sprinting in front of servers carrying hot food. It felt more like a daycare than a dining establishment. The manager seemed overwhelmed and either unwilling or unable to address the situation. It's hard to enjoy a meal when you're constantly on edge, wondering if a child is going to trip a server or fall into the table . I can't speak much for the food because honestly, the environment made it nearly impossible to focus on it. Dining out should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience--this was neither. Unless Javis makes serious improvements to its crowd control and supervision, I won't be returning. If you're looking for a peaceful meal, I'd suggest going elsewhere. read more

We came from out of town to celebrate my brother's birthday and made a 5:45 reservation--apparently, that meant nothing because we weren't seated until 6:15. What's the point of taking reservations if you can't honor them? To make matters worse, we specifically told them in advance that we had a baby and needed a high chair. Instead, they sat us at a raised booth where a high chair was impossible to use, then casually told us we'd have to wait another 15 minutes for a suitable table. It seems like the only vegetable they had was onions ordered a side of guac, was avocado with onions and two slices of jalapeño, the shrimp fajitas or a mountain of onions with some rubbery shrimp, the chicken and steak fajitas. The chicken had the most flavor on the pile of onions, the Carne Asada was unseasoned, and none of the salsa had any flavor. It's mediocre at best. Service is slow - staff can be rude. I don't know why it's so popular. But then every restaurant (especially chains) are packed, especially on Friday & Saturday night. I feel I needed to update my review since this experience was much different than my previous one. The food was fair at best. There were seven in our party, and all of us agreed that the food was just okay. The service was spotty. Two of the seven had different menus than the other five. The server seemed as confused as we were. He initially told us different variations to our food selections than even the different menus had. He then came back and said he was wrong on what he told us (liked the honesty), and we re-selected our food choices. The ambiance was okay. My wife and I recently moved to Tyler about a year ago, and this place has ALWAYS caught our eye whenever we are traveling on Jackson.... But it admittedly almost took a solid year before we were able to stop and try this place out. With that said, we actually got out and away for a day trip... and we may have got here a bit early, because we walked right in and was immediately seated. The back patio wasn't open, and we were really hoping to experience that, but no worries... because we thoroughly enjoyed our meal... so we will definitely be back. Let me just say the staff was exceptional!! From our server to the manager, who struck up an awesome conversation with us about traveling in exotic places. But you don't want to hear about that... let's get to the food! We ordered the Mini Brisket tacos to start us off for appetizers... and dudes... my mouth is watering just reflecting on it while in the moment, but the meat so tender and flavorful, the peppers, caramelized onions, the crunchy corn tortillas, and the burnt cheese ends were the blissful combination my mouth was hoping for! Then I ordered the enchilada platter with ribeye cubes with cheese, the beans, and rice.... WOW! Really enjoyed it and I couldn't eat it all in one setting. My wife ordered the fajita platter with chicken.... And she devoured it! We each had a couple of drinks and completely enjoyed our experience, each other, and the atmosphere. We go to Javi's and mostly have a great time but tonight (Monday 9/15) was the worst experience. I thought I was at a playground. Kids were running around in the outside deck and you knew which tables the kids came from. The parents didn't care. They were not watching as they were too busy engross in their adult conversations. Saw the children running underneath the staff carrying the rays full of drinks or food. Kids were even climbing the rails and could have fallen in the water. We were more concerned about someone getting hurt than enjoying our time. It will be a long time before we come back. read more

This is our 3rd visit. My parents live close and love this restaurant. We came for my dad's birthday, his choice and this was the worst encounter ever. Made a reservation for a window view, we got a booth off to the side no window!! Our waiter CARLOS, seemed like he hated his job, no personality. Fajitas come with no tortillas, had to wait about 8-10 mins and the meat got cold once they arrived. I'm writing this review as a cautionary tale to other "would-be diners"... There roughly 1100 other restaurants in Tyler for us all to go to. I'm not writing this review so management can offer an apology, learn from their mistakes or improve thier service. In my humble opinion... They should just take the Javi's sign down and open a Taco Bell in it's place. Why, it would be very bougie. The finest Taco Bell in the world. Folks would come from miles around to eat there. Just hang on to the liquor license though, alcohol sales seems to be the primary goal. Tonight, Friday night, apparently a holiday... Cinco de Mayo (which literally translates to the 5th of May, which comes just after Quatro (the 4th) de Mayo and just before Seis (the 6th) de Mayo... Aside from that this isn't even a holiday in Mexico... It's merely a marketing stunt to sell beer and alcohol in the U.S., during a time of the year when beer sales are traditionally low (After the Super Bowl and before the 4th of July). Anyway, my friends and I go out to dinner once a month-ish and unfortunately this place was chosen... on this night. We arrived at 18:00 and sat in and around the place, lobby, etc. until we were seated at 20:00. Okay, so being Gringo de Mayo and all, it was busy. I get it. I've always heard the place was great and was looking forward to the food. At 2100 our food finally arrived to the table. My Chile Relleno with no beans and rice was served at room temperature and the overhead lighting revealed greasy fingerprints all over the perimeter of the plate. After one cold taste I handed the plate back to a different server who was assisting our waiter, and politely reported the food was cold. 5 minutes later an entirely different server returned with a similar if not the exact same plate (with even more greasy fingerprints.) I asked about the rice and beans. Turned out, they had been put in the wrong place at the table when they first delivered the food. Not a problem, my coworker handed me that plate and I found though it had been sitting there for 5 minutes... It was still hotter than the replacement plate they'd just brought me. The replacement food was lukewarm at best this time and the beans were severely over salted... inedible. (No that's not just my tastes, I know what they're supposed to taste like.) I ate all I could stand... See photograph of the plate I handed back to the original waiter, when he arrived 10 minutes later. He took the plate and said he would remove it from the check and just walked off. Now in MOST restaurants when food is recalled only once, a manager steps in to salvage the customer. The crowd had died down to probably an average Friday night 9:30 pm crowd... AND I was there another 10 minutes before leaving my party (to go find some edible food and take my medicine) and nobody bothered to make any effort to remedy the situation at all. Even though it shouldn't be, a plate served cold may happen in the business from time to time (as it did to myself and others at the table...) However there is no excuse on Gods green Earth to serve food cold... TWICE and then just walk away. I will never return to that restaurant under any circumstances. It's not about just not getting to eat... It's the over three hours of my life they wasted fouling around like a team of monkey's chasing a greasy football (or plate in this case.) There is no excuse... I look forward to seeing this restaurant fail. Update: May 6th 2023 I woke up ill... Stomach cramps and more that I won't go into. This has gone beyond three+ hours wasted and poor customer service on a Friday night to a ruined Saturday. TO BE CONTINUED! read more

First time visiting Javi's. Really enjoyed the atmosphere - beautiful surroundings both inside and outside where there is little pond that adds to the beauty of the location. 5 stars on service - our server Scarlett was so friendly and helped us decide what to order since it was our first visit. She was on top of everything and made the experience that much more enjoyable. The food was good as well with a good assortment of appetizer and entree options. We started with the Queso blanco and it was awesome! Also, I highly recommend the mini brisket tacos (in the appetizer section but enough for a main entree, which is what I did). Absolutely delicious and just enough so I didn't leave miserable. The burrito plate my husband ordered wasn't near as good - not much flavor, and the beans and rice weren't terrible but not great either. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu items though! Overall a great experience with amazing service, great food and beautiful atmosphere. read more

Horrible. HORRIBLE! We have always loved Javis. Sure, some meals are better than others. But I have always defended it when people trash it on fb. Ooof, not after last night. It was a bday dinner, Javis was the restaurant of choice. We had a reservation for 6:30. That was fine. Waitress was very sweet. However. We waited a loooong time for drinks. We ordered queso and waited a loooooong time for that. Every batch of chips was either under cooked - floppy and greasy- or burned. Waited flipping foreverrrrrrr for our food. THEN when the food finally came out we got two meals out of 6. The rest of us waited an additional 10-15 minutes. THEN my daughter's was totally wrong. Had to go back. She waited an addl 10-15 mins. The rest of us were finished when she finally got her food. My son didn't get his side until we were ready to go. My crispy chicken enchiladas were SO crispy I could not cut them with a knife and the black chicken coming out the ends was beyond unappetizing. WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE KITCHEN????? Hire some more staff!! Everyone seemed very stressed, and it seemed the right hand had zero idea what the left hand was doing. This was a TUESDAY night. Waitress was super apologetic and sweet.
