Tried Mama's Restaurant #2 for the first time. Went around 8am which was the perfect time as there was a few people eating at that hour. Ordered a basic ham and cheese omelette with some coffee. Sat down and our waitress brought our drinks and spilled an entire water on my husband. Had no sense of urgency to get towels and didn't even apologize. My husband went outside to try and dry off and get the water off of him while I waited at the table and minutes later she came back and said we can just move. This unassuming little gem sits in a small shopping strip next to a Courtyard by Marriott right off Broadway. If you're looking for a good home cooked breakfast, some tasty enchiladas, pot roast or burgers, Mama's is a great choice. They poach eggs perfectly to your liking. Their pancakes are fluffy and yummy. They have 2 choices of sausage, link or patty. Their hash browns are browned perfectly. The omelet I saw pass by me made me wish I had ordered it. It was HUGE and delicious looking. The gentleman eating it had a big smile on his face. The only thing I would steer away from is the chicken fried steak. It's definitely not their specialty, and appeared to be a frozen product. Otherwise, the homemade items on their menu are all tasty. Prices are very reasonable, and they have a lunch, seniors and child's menu with reduced prices. There is a discount for paying cash, and prices are visibly noted. The place was packed and somewhat noisy, but the food was good and reasonably priced. Would I make this my first recommendation in Tyler, no, there's nothing that special about it. Service was decent, the food was disappointing. I was seated almost immediately. I ordered the cheese enchilada plate which came with 3 enchiladas, refried beans and rice. The beans were pretty gross to say the least. They tasted awful and looked/tasted as if they were just thrown in the blender and served. They are the worst beans I have ever had. The rice had an interesting flavor, it was edible but not the best. The enchiladas were soaked in cheese, they were flavorful but a bit soggy. I had a couple of bites of one enchilada and a bit of their rice but that's about it. The portions are pretty big, but I do not recommend this place at all. Went there for breakfast. We had a large group of 10 and got seated in 15 min. I had the pancakes with bacon and hash browns. Over all pretty good. I'm actually conflicted with my rating. Because covid is still real. I still believe restaurants should still be taking precautions and not practicing the former ways. The only reason we didn't leave is because this seems to be a faith based establishment. No masks and no gloves worn by the staff. Our waitress however was very sweet and courteous. Once we ordered the food came out quick. The food was good. Great portions and great service. Sorry no pictures of the food, I guess we were hungry. I had the two egg breakfast with ham strips and I subbed French toast for the pancakes. Hubby's breakfast was the meat lovers omelette that was served with three pancakes. If you're no longer concerned with covid, you should be but you could eat here comfortably. If you're practicing social distancing and wearing your masks then you may want to call-in your order to go. Either way I hope you give them a try! We've only tried the breakfast options here and they are all solid. Service ranges from friendly to indifferent, except if you're on the patio because then you're just forgotten out there. We come here regularly, there is usually a wait but the staff seem to get people seated in a timely manner. Everything we have ever order tastes amazing. The portions are generous, my ONLY complaint is that the restaurant very obviously does not get cleaned well. There are cob webs on the ceiling and in the walls. There are thick clouds of dust residue in the front wall where there is a decorative branches faux wall by the host in front of the restaurant. There is also a gross brown, rust looking stain on the ceiling, on one of the white decorative panels. Makes me nervous about how the food is handled in the kitchen and I can't help but to think that we are all breathing all that stuff in. But...I come back because the food is legit. I judge a Mexican food restaurant on their rice and beans. If they can do these simple items well, then, most likely, everything else is probably good. The restaurant passed with flying colors. I really like both their red salsa and their green sauce. I had a chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce. The enchilada had large chunks of chicken and the sauce was wonderful. The chips were thin and crispy. We ordered off the senior menu. The portions were large, and the price was excellent. The only negative for some people will be no one wearing a mask-customers or staff. We had ours, but were not required to wear it. We did not feel uncomfortable at all, but some people might. Ate here for the first time today. It has some ups and downs. Upon entrance into the restaurant, there was a foul odor ( sewer - porta potty smell ). There were some noticeable stains on ceiling ( water stains from a leak ). And the diner area floors were a bit dirty with small bits of food and trash on it. Now our waitress was awesome. Kept our drinks full. Even gave us some fresh tea to go. Very nice lady. For my meal I had the ranchero omelette that came with 3 pancakes. This meal is under $10 and big enough to feed up to 3 people. Portion size is ridiculous. So you definitely get your money's worth. The omelette itself was a bit dry. The pancakes were good. Served hot and fresh. And the syrup was also served warm. That was a first for me. And I enjoyed it. Overall. I would eat here again and try a new dish. read more

Visiting from California for a wedding. First, my family and I (5 of us) got seated after a group of 4 that showed up after us. Then we got seated and no one atteneded to us until my sister asked if we can at least get drinks first. Then the gentleman that we asked if we can get went to go get someone to help us then walked around with a bad attitude. The kid that came to help us after another 2-3 minutes kinda looked clueless. But he was respectable cause he would call us ma'am's. We had breakfast and it was ok. My waffle wasn't fully cooked so it became ever more soggier with the syrup. Our waiter never once asked if we needed refills on our drinks. Another thing is that my sister is a restaurant owner hersef and would never have let this happen at her place. We felt like outcast in this place. Since I did hear one waitress say to the hostess that she wanted the bald guy and family (who happened to come in after us) for herself. Was informed by the rude manager as she stated since she would not get the manager, that this was not a Mexican food restaurant after I asked for salsa. we got there at 10:40 and was told we would be charged for chips and salsa. Very strange atmosphere, no music playing and no consistent design across the restaurant. The food is ok but very bland. The Mexican food is very Americanized. First time visiting mamas 2 the other day, and probably won't go back. It's just not as warm and cozy as the other location. Just a big, wide open dining area with tables and chairs. OUT OF CHIPS AT 12:30!!!! Are you freaking kidding me? I asked for more chips and the waitress said I got the last of them! I told her a mexican restaurant with no chips may as well shut the door. She was like "well we had two big bins this morning!" Ummm obviously that is not enough. Besides that... their chips are hard and dense. Not sure why I even wanted more, other than I was hangry. Now the food.... really really good. I had enchilada and burrito. Hubby got breakfast and it was great. PAncakes are the best. However, the waitress told us that they had run out of their normal batter recently and the substitute wasn't as good. WHAT???? Come on Mama's y'all need somebody to manage your inventory.
