Turkey and Dressing, Black Eyes Peas, Fried Okra, Cranberry Sauce, Turkey Gravy, and a Yeast Roll

My grandmother and grandfather recently moved to the area and they are always raving about this place. So we stopped for lunch on a Sunday on my way out of town after a weekend visit. The staff is super friendly! The restaurant is a quaint little cafe with a country feel! You can certainly tell that there is some home cooking going on in there. They have a vast menu that includes daily specials and barbecue. If I'm not mistaken, it is the only place serving barbecue in the area. The daily special on Sundays is pot roast. They also had a November special going on for the entire month which was Turkey and dressing, cranberry sauce, two sides, and a roll for $10.99. I placed an order of the turkey and dressing meal to go for my husband. I chose black eye peas and okra as the sides. It also came with a roll and turkey gravy. The portion sizes are a bit small. But it was all pretty good. The black eye peas are delicious! I ordered the 2 meat barbecue plate with sliced brisket and smoked sausage, potato salad, and baked beans. It also came with a roll and three barbecue sauces to have on the table. The hot and spicy was my favorite! It was not very spicy but had just the right amount of tanginess that I prefer. The sweet was my least favorite. The original is okay as well. The brisket was smoky and tender but the pieces were a bit small. The sausage was good! The potato salad needed some salt and pepper but was quite good as well. The baked beans were delightful! I do wish the portion sizes were a bit larger. And some onions and pickles on the side would have really been nice! But for $13.99, it was not bad at all! My daughter chose the popcorn shrimp appetizer (which came with quite a large mount in a basket over fries) and the popcorn shrimp salad. She's been on a popcorn shrimp kick lately! The shrimps were huge for being "popcorn shrimp"! The cocktail sauce was delicious! The ranch is also good. The fries were nice and crispy! And her salad was fresh and covered in plenty of shrimp. We chose to take some desserts home as well. We chose cookies and cream pie slice, a mini cherry cheesecake, and peach cobbler. All three were delicious! We will definitely be back to try some other menu options!

First visit and it was amazing. This is a tucked away jewel. The food was delicious and service was excellent. If you love home cooking this is the place to visit. Portions are satisfying you don't leave hungry.

Terrible decision to go by here again. Breakfast are ok so we decided dinner it was a big mistake won't happen again. Update we got home and I had to make my husband another dinner he was hungry.

Decadent chocolate pie. So tasty.

This place is always busy, mostly with take-out orders and when they are out of food, they simply close. It's best to order ahead, especially if you want something on a a Sunday!

We stopped by on a whim based on a Facebook post. It's a very small older dusty building with limited seating and no restroom. They do not take cards. You have to pay cash or Zelle. They will sell out and close without notice. But we lucked out. We didn't know that most people call ahead and preferably a day or two ahead. We did have to wait about 45 minutes for our food. We were glad they hadn't already sold out. But it was quite the foodventure. Based on the aforementioned Facebook post, I ordered the Mr Big loaded baked potato. It has ham and brisket, cheese, sour cream, and bbq sauce. It came in an open faced to go container because there was no way it was closing. I had to dig down through several inches of meat just to reach the actual potato. I had to give some to my husband just to be able to close it to take home. Then I had to ask for a piece of tape. Well worth the price. My husband got the strawberry lemonade. Too sweet for me. He liked it. But it is served in a large mason jar which you get to keep. It had real strawberries in it. She even came and refilled it when it was about half gone. He got the mix plate. You can choose one or two or three meats. He got brisket and hot links. Large portions of meat. You don't get to choose the sides. You get potato salad and baked beans. He was very pleased with the amount of food. If you come expecting too much as far as atmosphere you might be disappointed. But if you want great food and a lot of it then call them up and bring your cash.

As the restaurant jokingly notes, they have the worse parking situation in Tyler. In reality, it was not the worst, but it is not good. There are just a handful of spots around the restaurant so you have to drive around and find a place. There was a line, but it moved pretty quickly. There was plenty of seating outside and there is an air-conditioned seating area that I did not see until we were already seated. The kid had the chopped brisket sandwich and although she did not like it very much, I tried it and I liked it better than my sliced brisket. The wife had a Texas taco (with brisket) and liked it. I had 1/2 pound of brisket, lean. The price was much lower than in Dallas. I added a side of Mac n' cheese. The brisket had great bark and was super tender. I got the lean that I wanted, but honestly it was a bit dry. Plus, I mistakenly applied the hot and spicy sauce to my brisket and it was so incredibly peppery that it was virtually inedible. I had to scrape it off and apply the regular sauce. I cannot who can tolerate that peppery sauce, it was just way too hot. For reasons we never understand but that always seems to happen, big groups that came after us were served their food before us. I don't get how that always happens. Overall, it was a good experience and if we return II would try some different things on the menu.

They always have peach and/or blackberry cobbler and it looks amazing but I do not like either of those. However on Sunday they have apple cobbler and it is just as amazing as it looked. They have the old fashioned long hallway walk to the ordering section that I haven't really seen since I was a kid. It brings back a lot of memories for me. They have a decent sized dining area, and a huge dance area in the back that has a full service bar and picnic tables set up for eating. The ambience of the place is really nice and with live music on Saturdays I'm sure the place is hopping. However, I honestly feel that the food is overrated. There are other highly rated BBQ places in Lindale that I preferred to eat at but they are only opened on Saturdays or days we weren't in town for. I imagine they are preferred more by locals simply because of the quality of food cooked on fewer days opened.
