Almost every Friday, my husband and I would come and eat after my chemo treatments. Today was my final treatment. Alisha helped me book a large group lunch to celebrate. The check in time was adjusted multiple times because of some small complications with my treatment. They adjusted and flowed with the roller coaster. In Tyler, Texas, the options for a decent but affordable dinner seem to fall into the hands of the chains. There's plenty of nice local establishments, but some can be pricey and some are just more casual than you want. Scott Williams has perfected the restaurants of Tyler that are balanced between affordable and still quite nice. He got his toes in the water with FDs, before expanding into Javi's, Twelve, and now the fanciest of them all in III Palms. I thought of all those options, Twelve would be the most unique and tasty for my girlfriend and I. We went in an hour before they closed on a Sunday and were seated immediately. We weren't too hungry so we didn't expect to be there past their closing time, and we were ready to go. Our waiter was quick and attentive, bringing us water and helping us decide on drinks from the bar and our order. He also showed us their insane over-the-top whiskey menu. If you like whiskey, give Twelve a shot I guess. To order, I just got their 'Osaka Style' Pressed Roll while my girlfriend got a Sushi Bowl Salad. We got Sweet Potato Fries to share. As for drinks, I started with their Monkey See, Monkey Do, an impressive and firm beverage, while my girlfriend ordered their Destin Dream, a fun Pina Colada-like drink. It wasn't long before our food came out. The sushi was beautifully plated with some wasabi and pickled ginger on the side. I destroyed all the rolls. They were all very fresh and very high quality, which was remarkable for their $13.50 price tag. My girlfriend's sushi bowl looked insane. She ate most of it, but I filled the gaps and devoured the rest of it. The sweet potato fries were crispy and heavenly like all sweet potato fries usually are. I felt adventurous and I got a second drink of their Rose Garden, which was simple but flavorful. Compared to FDs, the menu might be a little more sea-inspired and more adventurous, but I think it leads to better, more unique food, especially with offerings like Oyster Rockefeller and a sushi bar. I also know Twelve does a great brunch as well, so keep that on your radar. Ultimately, as the bill came, the price was very manageable even with the alcohol. It's nice that you don't fully have to break the bank to have a nice meal in Tyler thanks to places like Twelve. I rate it a 12/10. Get it? hahahaha... My party of eight had a reservation at the restaurant. We arrived together and were seated right away. That is where the service completely stopped. We sat at our table for 15 to 20 minutes without a single staff member acknowledging us. No server came over, no waters were offered, and no one even checked in. The restaurant was not busy, so there was no clear reason for being ignored like this. We asked to speak with a manager and no one ever came. After waiting and realizing no one was going to address the situation, we left. This experience was frustrating and honestly unacceptable, especially for a group that made a reservation and showed up on time. If you are considering coming here, be aware that you may be seated and then completely ignored. I would not recommend wasting your time. read more

Tried Twelve in Tyler and got a salad with chicken that was delicious and healthy. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The customer service was great and the prices were also really good. They were wide open two days prior when making the reservation, so I think they just didn't try to protect a table. One of the appetizer plates had food but still stuck on it. Went for brunch today. I expected to be able to get a good cup of coffee. It was horrible! Sip right into what seems like undissolved instant coffee. It was so strong and had clumps. Waitress apologized and said they had trouble with their machine. She tried and again and it wasn't any better. So I had to just skip the coffee which is disappointing if you are going there for brunch. If your machine is not working go to Walmart and buy a coffee maker. Food was ok. Waitress was fine. What a nice addition to the selections of food/eating and entertainment in Tyler! I had the steak medallions and whipped mashed potatoes and asparagus and it was wonderful!! The service was good, but kept getting interrupted in conversation with my friend. Some polite "excuse me" just checking on X...or refills would have been nice too. You might think it's a higher end place since the staff wears oxfords, but it's really a nice casual dining facility. They have a good place for parties, or just to have lunch with friends. We arrived about 2 hours before closing. We loved the vibe here. It was nicely decorated, modern, and clean. The food was nicely priced and overall above average. Not the best sirloin steak I had, but overall pretty taste. The carnitas sandwich was good overall... but the avocado they used was underripe and thus was hard to cut into. Some slight hiccups, such as forgetting our drinks. We reminded two servers about the drinks and still didn't receive it until the end of our meal. read more

My wife and I have always loved the food at Twelve, but the service continues to be a major disappointment. We recently sat at the bar and were never greeted--no "I'll be right with you," no acknowledgment at all. After waiting more than five minutes without any interaction, we left and went to Dakota's down the street, where we were warmly welcomed and served immediately. Unfortunately, this has become a pattern. This was the third time we've walked out due to poor service. As much as we enjoy the food, the inconsistency in service has made it impossible for us to continue supporting Twelve. There are simply too many other great restaurants that value our business and provide excellent service every time. Excellent choice in Tyler for either a dinner with friends, that special someone or if you are traveling for work and want a great meal and a nice bourbon at the bar, you can't go wrong. Was in town for a two day work trip and just sat at the bar. Very nice inside, good lighting, wood, glass, etc., bar is excellent with a huge wall of spirits behind and a very knowledgeable bar staff. Dress code can be dressy, biz casual or shorts and a t-shirt, which is why East Texas is so great. Excellent bourbon list and lots of additional offerings, not on the list, but on the bar. Served in a glencairn, which is my preference when drinking neat. Ordered the salmon with broccoli and came out quickly, perfectly tender on the inside, crisped on top and lots of flavor. Also, prices are really reasonable. It is, for sure, going to be my go-to whenever I am in town, highly recommended! read more

I made a reservation at Twelve for Valentines day. When we sat down, within the first 2 minutes our waiter had already taken our drink orders and appetizers. My boyfriend and I ordered the calamari and the california roll. The calamari was phenomenal as always, and the california roll was pretty good. I ordered the espresso martini, and it was DANGEROUSLY good. You could not tell if there was any alcohol in it. As for the mains we ordered the asiago chicken pasta, and crispy fish. The asiago chicken pasta was a little over cooked, but the fish was amazing. Crispy on the outside and buttery on the outside. We ended our lunch with the creme brulee, and that was the perfect ending to our meal. The ambiance was very romantic, but it was a little dark. I will definitely be coming back soon! read more

This was my first time here and if I'm in the area again, I'll be back. I'm not sure what I was expecting as I walked in but I was pleasantly surprised. The host on duty couldn't have been more lovely. Great attitude and her greeting felt genuine. As she led it us to our table....again I was very surprised by the decor. Great lighting. Not to dark. Not to bright. Everyone dining seemed to be be generously spaced out at that time of day. The menu is straightforward and the food arrived in a timely manner. No complaints there. The only criticisms I have are as follows: 1.) We were seated at a 4 top table (not a problem. we were happy with the extra room) and the server didn't remove the two additional roll ups and plates. They remained on the table for the entire meal. 2.) As our server brought plates, beverages, etc. to the table he didn't take anything away. By the end of our meal there were 7 glasses on the table. 4 of which were empty. All the plates from our meals plus the additional plates and the dessert plate. Needles to say it was a bit crowded. Other than that, everything was great. The wonderful host wished us a farewell and we left. read more

Nice bar restaurant. Do not drink so bar aspect does not relate to me . Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Menu selection was wide in variety but limited in main entry and most had a spin on them I assume to be more diverse since it was a bar vibe. Wife got the Norwegian salmon and I got the uptown chicken. Both were real good but were smaller than normal portions as also were the sides. As I said I'm sure some of my short comings were due to the bar vibe themed menu but we enjoyed our meal and will probably go back . However I prefer FDs and Three Palms for a dinning experience. read more

Our server Kaitlyn was excellent but the food probably would've been good had they not run out of waffles, pecans and candied bacon!!! So we changed our order and they got it wrong. They bought my sister out 3 pancakes with fruit on top and me 1 pancake with fruit on top when we asked for walnuts. I felt so sorry for Kaitlyn because she had to come out to apologize several timwhen it clearly was not her fault!!! We made a reservation for 7:30 and showed up to a packed restaurant but thought it would be ok we had a reservation checked was told a few mins . Ok cool not a problem but the waiting area was crowd went to the hostess stand asked how long was told I had a whole list of ppl in front of me even thought I had a reservation I said ok can I wait in the car will we get a text they said yes . Ok we wait in the car no text still waiting get an email saying they canceled the reservation . We head inside and ask what is going they send we sent a text and never got a response so canceled the reservation I show that I never got a text and the hostess says I sent it and says it will be a few more mins I say ok we have a seat and wait finally get a text head up to the stand no one else in the lobby and say ok we are here and she says it's not ready I say I got a text see show her the text and she says that it was the one from earlier i say I just got it it 7:57 whiling waiting in the lobby so the time stamp she says it's weird that it happened and it will still be a few mins so now it's going on 30 mins for a reservation for 7:30 I asked for a manager and she says she is which I doubt but she couldn't handle a phone issue need a manager for it and told a waitress that managers were cleaning tables . So I said u know what cancel the reservation we will go somewhere else unbelievable !! read more

The build out is very nice! Whoever designed it did an amazing job. The experience is interesting as it has the feel of a fine dining establishment, but the execution falls short. The wait staff is made up of mainly teenagers and early 20's kids scrambling to provide a level of service they aren't fully trained for. Not their fault, all were extremely nice. The food is mediocre with some things almost being very good. The Chef is using too many ingredients. Most of the time less is more. A few tweaks and this place could be amazing. We got seated by the hostess right away. Once we were seated, a server asked if he could move us to another table as we had gotten seated in an area they wanted to clean. Once reseated, he asked if he could get us any drinks so I ordered a cocktail. Shortly after, a different server says she will be taking care of us. I again order a cocktail. We get the calamari appetizer - it was so-so. For my entree, I ordered the carnitas sandwich. The flavor was good, however the avocado was not ripe, not cut up, and was a giant hard glob on my sandwich. They also forgot to bring out the ketchup I had asked for when I ordered. We finished our meal, our waitress brought us our check. I realized I was charged for the cocktail I had NEVER received (after asking twice). Just a moment later, the waitress shows up with the cocktail. I asked her to take it off the bill, and she takes the cocktail back to the bar and brings back a new check. Overall, the servers were friendly but the service was not great. The food was mediocre. The ambiance was nice inside, and you can tell they have a nice touch to the finishes. read more

Tried the coconut shrimp and the yellowtail avo roll - both were super tasty and I thought the cocinar shrimp roll was very unique! I also had their7oz filet with a baked potato; not the best steak I've ever had but the food was definitely tasty! The restaurant itself is very well put together and would be a great place for a dinner or lunch meeting - had a great time chatting with a few regulars at the bar. Came to Twelve for an early dinner on Easter Sunday. It was not crowded. Our waiter was rude. Asked for Swiss on a burger, he went to back and confirmed they had Swiss but then when he delivered the food he said they didn't have Swiss and put cheddar on the burger instead. Also had veggies on it when we said no veggies (kitchens fault bc he put it in correctly, but his customer service was poor. He was rude and argumentative). One burger had melted cheddar, the other burger had cold shredded cheddar. No condiments on the burger and no ketchup given even though we had French fries. The restaurant is beautiful but this experience was not good. A manager came over to address some of the problems with the food and was very nice and accommodating. read more

Twelve is usually spot on, tonight was not the night for that. Took 20 minutes for us all to get our drinks and 30 for a bar draft beer. The spinach dip was cold when it was served and I recommended the uptown chicken as it was really good the last time I got it but this time my uncle got the thinnest chicken breast that was maybe 4oz. I felt so bad. It was very loud in the room we sat in that talking was impossibly hard to do. I don't know if I'll go back. I stopped by here on my way through town and the second I walked in, I immediately asked if there was a dress code (there's not) -- but visually, the ambiance is so incredibly classy and upscale! I am giving this one star mainly because of how the manager treated my family member. We were there for a small event of 40 people where the room had been reserved. We were some of the first guests to arrive and got no direction on what to do. Every time we asked a specific waitress a question she didn't know the answer. There was a set menu but no one communicated that. We would ask basic questions and the waitress was not able to answer them and always seemed very confused. We are the customers, we are there for an event, YOU should have the answers. After people arrived we asked several times if anyone had ordered and if we could order and she would say no. We had to ask if we could order a drink and were not provided a drink menu. When we did get drinks they kept refilling with the wrong kind of tea. Then we see several appetizers coming out, which were not even on the set menu. So again we asked and were told that wasn't on the menu. Finally after seeing other peoples food come out we flagged down our waitress to see if we could order. Once we ordered our food did come out fairly quickly so kudos to the kitchen on that. Everything tasted ok, but nothing to write home about. One of our family members had cold food and her food was not correct to what she ordered. She ate because we had already waited almost an hour at that point. Again, the waitress was always very confused every time we asked a question. My family member posted a review while we were still there and I guess they get alerted because the manager CONFRONTED her. I say "confronted" because it was very aggressive and in front of the entire party. It was VERY embarrassing and completely uncalled for. I have NEVER seen a man agree confront a customer like that. If you have a customer having a bad experience, you approach the customer and you have a civil conversation with them not an accusatory, immature conversation where you then walk off. How about as a manager - you have a private party of 40- you prepare your staff and maybe show your face and check on your guests, that's what managers do. It was 1:20 in the afternoon. It was not that busy. There was no reason she couldn't check in. It honestly ruined our day and our celebration. I will never set foot in that restaurant again only due to the managers horrible behavior. I do not like to ever leave negative reviews because we all make mistakes but this behavior was totally unacceptable. read more

Rainy Mother's Day! Made reservations on Open Table. All went very well. Booth seating so nice when you're wanting a little more privacy than open floor plan. Wife/MIL both had Mahi Alexander. Daughter had crispy fish. I enjoyed the medium rare 9oz steak with baked potatoe. All had mimosas. Mrs/MIL had tiramisu afterwards. Service was excellent. I started w a perfect Manhattan, then had the Macallan 25 year, and finished with a Dos Equis lol but everything was fun drinkwise Food - excellent trout with yummy mashed potatoes for only $16? That's ridiculous! I've had $40+ fish that was not prepared as thoughtfully as this trout. They should charge more. Go get some before they raise their prices - this food is a steal.
