I have been to this restaurant once before and then completely forgot about it because it's on the opposite end of town from where I'm usually at. Today family decided on Mexican food and we came across Margaritas. Light bulb went off. I remember the place being really good. We decided to place a to-go order and let me tell you that was the best decision we have made in a while. The appetizer sampler One shredded chicken quesadilla, an order of ground beef nachos, two flautas with pico de gallo and guacamole. The child ordered this as her main meal because she loves variety and it had everything she absolutely loves. She said the quesadilla was her favorite and could not stop talking about it. Cheese enchilada dinner You have a choice of topping it with chili con carne or queso. It is served with rice and beans. I had it topped with the chili con carne and it was delicious. I absolutely love cheese enchiladas and I'm very picky about them. So when I enjoy them the restaurant is doing something right. You get two cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. The rice and beans were delicious. Both tasted homemade and both were wonderful. I was kind of sad when I didn't have any more left on my plate. Crispy Taco dinner plate Two hard shell tacos filled with ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese served with a side of rice and beans. These hard shell tacos were perfect. They did not fall apart when you took a bite out of them. The ground beef was very flavorful and the lettuce, tomato and cheese offered a nice refreshing touch. We also ordered a side of chips and red salsa and I would definitely recommend you get an order to go with your meals. Their salsa is delicious, not spicy, just a nice sweet fresh taste to it. The chips are thin and oh so crispy and dipped into the salsa they hold up very good. Price wise they're perfect. Most meals will run you between $10 and $15. And believe me you give plenty of food for your money. And if you have a really super picky person in your group, they also serve American dishes. They have chicken tenders, hamburger, chicken sandwich or the famous chicken fried steak You can find all over Texas. All of these meals are served with french fries. Oh, and I definitely recommend you get yourself a bowl of drunken soup. Share it between two people or just have it as your meal for one person. It's a combination of charro beans, taco meat, onions, tomatoes, cheese and jalapenos. It is so good and I highly recommend it. read more

So I ordered the half nachos thinking I was being modest. Cute, right? Wrong. These nachos rolled up to the table like, "Who said we were small?" It was a full-on flavor avalanche. The beef was seasoned like it had been to culinary bootcamp. The beans were doing their part, sticking to every chip like they paid rent. And then--plot twist--the sour cream and guac entered like a power couple on vacation: cool, rich, and making everything better. No refills offered, had to run waitress down for refill. Not busy at all. Has to ask for ticket, none arrived, long wait, went to front & lady said you come here for ticket. Never given ticket, just said pay amount on screen, had to ask for receipt which showed full price for both happy hours drinks!! Enchiladas fair but wouldn't go back with poor service. At doctors so we decided we wanted Mexican and this place looked good from the outside. Not busy a 300 pm. The decor as you expect is very Mexican restaurant! Music was loud that daughter was complaining to me that she almost couldn't handle it. But after a little while you forget it's there. Salsa ad chips arrived and it was a disappointment. Salsa was watery as was the green tomatillo sauce. Chips were ok. We ordered the tostadas and again not impressed. Some of the lettuce was going brown. By the time you got to your third tostada it was soggy and no longer crispy. There was too much water? Coming from the meat or veggies? Decided to try a new Mexican restaurant for lunch today and we're glad we did. We were seated right away. The environment was festive with traditional decor and music playing. Our drinks, 2 different salsas and queso came out promptly. They were all delicious in our opinion. We also shared Drunken Soup and the Crispy Taco Dinner. Both were flavorful and plenty filling. It was so good we decided to order a couple of meals for dinner. We went with the Caldo de Rez and the Cheese Enchilada Dinner. Excited to try 2 additional dishes. It will give us a good sampling of their menu. The service was excellent and attentive. It also started to fill up with the working lunch crowd...so you know it's good. A wonderful place if you like good basic Mexican food with zero attitude. It's not a chain and you're served by one of the kids of the owners which makes it a whole lot better than anyplace else. Have passed by this restaurant many times and finally decided to stop by for a late lunch. Waiter brought out watery and extremely thin salsa accompanied by a weak and equally thin tomatillo salsa with small basket of tortillas. Knew I was off to a not so good start, but was hoping food would make up for it. It didn't ! I had carne asada that was extremely thin as the salsa and fairly tough. Wife had flautas which were very bland with little seasonings in the chicken. Charro beans were mixed with chorizo which were different but ok for me but too spicy for the wife. This was not a good experience. We waited 10 minutes to get acknowledged at all. No drinks, chips etc. The hot sauces were super watery and just dropped off the chips. Very hard to eat that way. I have yet to eat here and have a bad service experience. The food is not Tex Mex and more Southwest style. I grew up in New Mexico and this is a very goo place to eat a Southwest style Mexican food. Every dish I have tried is great and extremely flavorful. The atmosphere is very southwest style as well. The music is typically loud but all you have to do is ask and they will turn it down. We had been here about 5 times last year and really loved it a lot. Went again a couple of weeks ago, and it was a really horrible experience. The food was bland (Sopes & tacos) I asked for barbacoa which is on the menu as a choice, but what I got was a chopped up dry piece of meat, without any type of seasoning. The Happy Hour Margarita had no flavor but the lime, and we were lucky if there was ANY alcohol in it. (More like a virgin Margarita). Such a dissapointment, was looking forward to another good meal, but it was anything but. The servers attitude bordered on rude, kind of like take it or leave it, where we had always had excellent customer service in the past. We definitely will not be going there again. What a shame they lost their magic. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants for us to spend our money at. read more

Don't come here if you're looking for good customer service or good food. Our server was good, but management was not. I received my meal and didn't like it all. I tried to send it back and order something else but was told by my server that I'd have to pay for both entrees. We were never visited by a manager. This is a great family restaurant. The staff are all wonderful and the food is very yummy. The only thing is that it's not always consistent. Everything is always tasty, but sometimes it's 4/5 tasty and sometimes it's 5/5 tasty. Thus the four stars. It's still one of the best Mexican places in Tyler.
