    Menu, DEC 2017

Overall I enjoyed it here, I'd rate it an 8.5/10, based on what I ordered. As of DEC 2017, The jamon torta (ham and cheese and lettuce) for $3.75 was a fair deal and it tasted good all around. A soda cost $1.25, which was a price I could live with. I'd like to return, but next time I'd probably get a chicken torta or one with more meat (the chicken torta is $5.50, for those wondering).

We tried the new torta Express in the hat last night.. it did not hold up to the original... I had the king torta and one or some of the meats were borderline sour... I didn't even eat half of it.. the birria Taco was flavorless... my husband had the pastor 5 for 5 tacos and the pastor meat was decent.. it was tender but not a whole lot of flavor.. the salsas were too hot for us.. that's our problem though.. they had good flavor but man were they FIRE. I was really excited to eat but was definitely let down.

We were driving out of Tyler to go back home and I mentioned to my husband that I hadn't seen taco or food trucks on the streets. Then we saw this place was open on Sunday and that they had 5 for $5 tacos so we decided to stop by. The inside of this establishment definitely leaves a lot to be desired but the order and pick up process makes it easy to be served. My 7 year old loves tongue (lengua) but that was not included in the taco deal. They were $1.99 each. The 5 for $5 deal is for chicken, pastor, chorizo and chicharon. There might be one or 2 more types as well. Asada, which is my favorite, is also not included in that deal. We settled on 2 chorizo, 3 pastor and 2 tongue. We also ordered a large horchata drink. They tacos came with chopped onion and cilantro. On the side were grilled onions, sliced cucumber and radish. When you pick up your order you can tell them which salsa you want. I went with the green salsa. The chorizo and the pastor were delicious although I feel like the seasoning for the pastor could have been amped up just a bit. My son could not eat the lengua as it came differently than other tacos de lengua. These spiced so they were too spicy for him. I let him eat my pastor taco, which he loved, so I ate his lengua tacos. Even after drinking horchata after every bite, the tip of my tongue still had lingering heat so be warned about the lengua if you like to control the amount of heat that is in your taco. The front girl was friendly though. I haven't tried another taco place in Tyler so I don't know if there is a better taco place that is also authentic (not Tex-Mex). Since they are called the Torta King, perhaps their tortas are great but I can't say since we didn't order any.

First time having a torta so I can't judge if they are good or not. A little messy for my liking but I ordered the king torta. This had every meat on it. Also had lettuce, mayo, I took it as is since it was my first time. I have to say I would prefer it neatly packaged in a tortilla and stick to a burrito. My friend said it was one of the best places to have a torta in Tyler. Check out the pics.

    Very cool taco stand.

My appetizer was missing some stuff that I saw another waitress carry out (the same appetizer) fully loaded. Esquites is messy without a spoon, my friends. Everything felt messy and the napkins were not easy to ask for when everyone is running by. The prices on the menu do not match what is charged. I'm not sure why but our meal was a lot less expensive than anticipated, not a bad thing, but I wish the prices were clear because I would have ordered something different. Speaking of the menu, dang. That thing is a beast! It took me so long just to get through it and decide what I wanted. If you can find an online version study up! The food was quick and fresh. I have no complaints there! The soft-serve margarita was everything I hoped it would be. Lastly, the restroom ruined my whole night. It is a cesspool and thinking of the staff also washing and using the facilities makes me cringe. I can only speak for the ladies room when I say the temperature was a good 20 degrees warmer than the rest of the building. There was NO circulation, so guess what? All the stank stays in the stall. I'm sorry I don't know how else to explain what I experienced but I had to go home and shower.
