The best Baja Mexican food in Tyler. Just like used to eat in California. Great prices and service!

One of my go-to places in Tyler. Traditional Tex-Mex in a great setting. The food is really good.

Still on the hunt for good Mexican food none the less. Stopped in here being they were listed as "Top 25 Restaurants in Tyler Tx"... figured no way to be disappointed! See what the hypes about... sadly to say... all Hype! Asked our waiter for a drink menu... just to find... they serve no beer or any alcolhol? Should have walked out then, but we'd figure we'd give the food a try. We tried their Chicken Torilla Soup (which i do NOT recommend) Veggies were hard and under cooked. Also tried Fajatas, meat was tuff and not flavorful. Also, buyer beware, no set-up (sour cream/guac/pico), you must pay an extra $2.95 for the set up. We were not offered to add and didn't discover till after food came out what it meant on the menu? Most places set-up comes with so when not asked or offered, makes the experience a bit confusing? Service was horrible the server was barely paying attention to us which was okay until we attempted to order another plate of rice and beans which she took about five minutes to finally get back to us and she couldn't even stay still to listen to the full request, she came back with only a small plate of rice. After that we tried to request some ranch and finally after three attempts of asking she was able to bring it. read more

This is the first place I tried in Tyler. I was welcomed by great food and service. Their tacos are greatly priced and have amazing flavor. For a mere few bucks per taco, I got a flavorful mouthful of food. And to top it off, their house salsas are perfect! Way better than anything I could ever buy at the store. The Verde was nice and flavorful while not being too spicy, whereas the red salsa added a nice, hot kick to the food. I got an assortment of their tacos, since I couldn't decide! And it turns out, all of them were so good!! My favorite was the egg and chorizo breakfast taco and the pastor (my personal go to). Definitely recommend to anyone in Tyler! Walking in, it is a very colorful and relaxed atmosphere. You seat yourself. The staff was quick with water, complimentary chips and verde/red chili salsas, and took our drink orders (no alcohol beverages at this location, but available at their other location). The food was simple, fresh, and delicious. We first ordered the queso, it was served with some very good bread. The queso was followed with our meals. I had the Chicken verde enchiladas, with homemade refried beans and rice. Others in our group had tacos (street style), and an appetizer combo plate. Honestly, I wish I had ordered the appetizer combo plate, it looked so good! With the look, I was told it was really good. We went out to enjoy family time, and we did just that. Love this!! It's like a fresh home cooked Taco Bell!! And they have the best sweet tea

Worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Right when we walked in we had to seat ourselves and wait 20 min for someone to even acknowledge us and bring us our drinks. When we got our food it was very disappointing. My husband ordered a burrito and the sides we just smooshed up and fried too much and the cheese on top tasted like it came straight out of a can I could've bought at the store. My enchiladas had no flavor and and the "chili sauce" on top tasted as if it was out of a can as well plus beans were cold. Will not come to this business again. read more

First time at this location and there must have been some confusion where we sat because no one showed up to take our order. They new we were there because they brought chips and salsa. Chips were great by the way. I flagged down a server and wow, he was great. Next time you are in, ask for Daniel. He could have gone and found the server for our table but instead just served us. Drive to Tyler from Richardson. Went to Don Juan to pick up a phone order and was told rudely my manager angel that I ordered from the wrong location. I apologized and stated I could place an order now since I'm not familiar with the area. Angel told me rudely NO you can't. You must go to the other location. Mind you there were only 3 customers in his restaurant at the time. I felt racially discriminated, if I want African American I'm sure angel would have been nicer and more helpful. I was extremely disappointed with my first visit to this restaurant. I have never ordered Mexican food that I didn't want to eat but this restaurant proved that is no longer the case. I ordered shrimp tacos which I believe were $14 and receive three tortillas with some shriveled up flavorless shrimp. They did serve a side of pico - guac - sour cream but it was a very mini portion and they offered no other sauce but the salsa to go on it. Their salsa is amazing but I ate a bunch of it with the chips I didn't necessarily want to use that on the tacos as well.My daughter was eating the beans and rice that came with it and The server tried to take it away when I said the tacos were no Bueno. I would've been happy to pay for the beans and rice but the server did not know what she was doing apparently. I ordered a Chile relleno instead and received a also flavorless Chile relleno with no sauce except for a side of the green salsa which they also serve with your chips. Do not order the Chile relleno or the tacos. I'm not sure about the rest of the food but those are two things I do not recommend. We also had to ask for silverware multiple times before we got any, so the service was not good either. read more

Our favorite in Tyler for home-style Mexican food.....not Tex-Mex. nice staff and amazing homemade chips and sauce. Good pricing as well. The acoustics close to the kitchen are deafening, so try to sit elsewhere. read more

Got the Juanita's dinner and oh so tasty! Too much food for me so I was glad to bring home the leftovers. Full of flavor and lots of cheese! Only the first time there but it was so much better than chain-type restaurants. Definitely worth a try. Too bad I don't live here to try out other dinners. read more

Great meal at this brightly colored restaurant serving traditional Mexican food. Delicious!! From the chips and two types of authentic salsas to the wide variety of entrees, the food is terrific. The carne asada I had was tender and spiced just right- and a large plate. Checked to see what time they close and it says 10pm. It's after 8 so we think we good. Or a meal that comes with tortillas, got no tortillas. Ordered steak and cheese tacos, got steak and cabbage with no cheese. Had to ask for the green and red sauce and got half full small containers. We order the same thing every time. I would not be making this post if when we called back they said they were closed, AND the lady had the nerve to say she read our order back to us TWICE and we didn't order cheese. So this has nothing to do with the food. This is about what was done to our group when we had lunch there just now. There were 5 of us and on our tickets it said there were 6 so the server could add gratuity to our tickets. We all tip very well and having been a server I understand when dealing with a group you want to make sure you get a tip. But we would have tipped way above the auto gratuity had she not been dishonest and put there were 6 of us so it could be added to our tickets. I'm not sure who else they've done this to but you should check your ticket if you're in a group less than 6. read more

I've eaten at Don Juan's in the past, and the food quality has been varied, however mostly decent. Sometimes the meal is hot, and sometimes it's not however. I like it steaming hot. The last time I ate there I ordered the chicken sopas, and I bent a fork trying to cut them into bite-sized pieces. They were tough to say the least. I don't know if they kept them on the fire too long or what, but I should have sent them back. It's the first time in a long time that a meal I ordered was not worth eating. I went here last night for a family birthday party. The queso was my favorite thing ,and my chicken burrito was good too. The service was not very good though, the waitress was rude, and we got our orders messed up multiple times. When I ordered beans and rice on the side, it never came. When I asked about the beans and rice, the waitress asked, "do you still need it?" When I finally got the beans and rice I was very unsatisfied. The beans were very bland and tasted like cardboard.
