Nice venue. Host, manager, busboy very nice, bartender had alot of unnecessary attitude. Music is very loud and you can not have a conversation here, at least at dinner. Decent location, but better options in the neighbourhood.

I can always count on Makro for good food and service. The ambiance has gotten a bit more "trendy" over the years (especially in the summer) but I also love coming here when it is a bit more quiet on week nights for the coziness and the intimacy. Their grilled octopus is a staple but we also love the sides here (especially the charred beets, Brussels sprouts) and they always have good ceviche or crudo. Overall, everything is on the pricier side for value but the ambiance and service is usually quite nice so this is to be expected. Makro is Grinder's sister restaurant that offers more seafood options whereas Grinder offers more meat options. Food: 5 Service: 4.5 Ambiance: 4.5 Value: 3 Overall: 4

I went to Makro for a work function and the meal was paid for, so I can't comment on its affordability. Makro is a fish restaurant for people who don't necessarily go out of their way to eat fish. It's beautifully upscale with a great candlelit atmosphere, an attentive service, a huge wine list and a whole array of seafood and fish dishes. I had spicy tuna tartare (a absolute must, since it replicates a true tartare texture), seabass, Brussels sprouts with parmesan, fried yuca and a delightfully light mille-feuilles with some Spanish sweet moscatel. Despite being a fish sceptic I very much enjoyed all of the dishes, and even sampled their ribs, which were cooked to perfection much like their fish offering. I especially recommend this place for a very fancy date. Definitely dress up for the occasion!

We found this place randomly since my friend was craving a surf and turf platter and we had decided to go. Reservations are essential of course and I would say the dress code is more smart casual for late lunch/ early dinner . The whole staff was super nice and welcoming and we were sitting near the hostess stand which was no problem since we had a really decent view of the whole restaurant and it was nice to see their aquarium in front of the kitchen as well. The drinks were delicious and would recommend and the food was amazing . The meat portion of the surf and turf we got it medium rare but it was more rare than medium , which wasn't a big issue for us but for someone who prefers strictly a certain cook or dietary restrain ( ie ibs) would be disappointed in that sense . The seafood itself was succulent and it was my friends first time trying octopus and the only word she could say was " wow " Sides : we ordered the Brussels sprouts and the beetroots because we needed veggies for balance. The Brussels sprouts were amazing and we regret not ordering them x2 since the beetroots were okay. The only reason why this was not given a 5 (but so close ) was for the following : 1) even though the restaurant was quiet at first and a little busy , as someone who worked as a bartender before, gossiping about staff at the hostess booth is just not it. I'm not saying not to talk, but don't gossip in front of clients because you never know who the client might be or their relationship to the person you're gossiping about. Overall though , would recommend and go back ! I've gone to their sibling restaurant , Grinder , as well and will post a review shortly !

Awesome place, we had a great experience. We went with a big group(18) for a friends bday. The waitress was super friendly and helpful. Thank god she suggested the taster menu for 60$ a person. We got to try out so many items from the menu, it was great! Food was excellent, quality was great you really get your moneys worth. We were scared to run out of food but they just kept the plates coming! I realized that they don't always suggest the taster menu and have some friends that had bad experiences there but definitely ask about it. So worth it! Everything was so delicious

This place was such a good vibe. The food and energy was immaculate. Everything we had was phenomenal and I will be recommending this place to anyone I know who comes to MTL. The corn esquites, and cauliflower were so so good. I had the grilled shrimp as my main, and it was so flavourful. The selection of wines were also so impressive. There is something for everyone here.

Went to Makro for my birthday & it was great! If you like octopus, Makro is the place to be. Perfectly done with delicious chimichurri sauce. Drinks are great too. The terasse is open during summer! Enjoy!

If you're looking for a place with great seafood and a fun ambiance, this is the place! The staff is really friendly, the drinks are really good (especially their Clamato) and their seafood is fresh. I've had the oysters, shrimp, crab, octopus and lobster and all were delicious! The music is really good too and their terrace is perfect in the summer

Pretentious? Perhaps. Really really good looking people serving you? Yes! A fantastic seafood menu? Hell yes! A beautiful spot to catch up with your swanky awesome friends? Yes indeed. Well, what can I say about this place? Had a fantastic dinner out - led to a downstairs secret hideaway bar that was super fun but did a tequila shot, turned into a pumpkin and had to go home. Oh hood in mamahood. But I will gladly do it again!!!! It was worth the pain and why we work hard - to enjoy life!

We didn't have a reservation but the sweet man who greeted us found us a table very fast. This is a family owned business and you can tell how much pride and love they put into it. Both of the owners explained all the dishes to us and were so helpful in making our decisions. We started with the lemonade which is house made by their own mother every day. It had a different type of sweetness to it, almost like it was made with honey instead of sugar but I really enjoyed it. We also got the Trio of Salads which were so good! A few of them were a bit spicy but nothing we couldn't handle. They also kept the bread coming which I never hate! We also split the Tuna Brik and it was amazing! For our mains we had the Honey Lamb which was covered in pistachios. The lamb fell right of the bone and was so tender. We also tried the Ojja which is more of an elevated Shakshuka - dipping the bread in the sauce was a highlight at the end. Overall, this was such a unique meal with wonderful flavors. The owners service was the true stand out of this meal. They really do provide a wonderful experience for all of their guests.

Should've trusted my gut Food took ages, Courtney was STARVING and getting emotional. Her pasta was crunchy (sorry but that means RAW) and my burger tasted like it came from a packet. Not what you expect when you're paying these prices. They didn't have oat milk so Courtney couldn't have her iced latte and that basically ruined the whole evening. She sat there saying the "vibes were off" which as her mother I could immediately tell was TRUE. Staff were friendly but a bit too laid back if you ask me. This isn't a festival, it's a RESTAURANT. Won't be rushing back. Courtney says she's "never eating here again" and honestly I stand with my daughter. DO BETTER. -- Sharon x

She was just not happy to be there and very slow. Our food sat there for a little bit we kept making eye contact with her so she would know but just would look back at the food and then leave it. Someone came to take over for her as maybe they noticed that she wasn't happy. I won't lie tho the food was great the sauce the crab one with butter and lemon pepper was amazing! Went there with my brother and sat at the bar. Bartender/server whose name escapes me (Eric? We ordered the seafood tower, the Crab toast, and the octopus. They were all obscenely good. Good bottle of wine and too much amaro at the end. Got to meet Chuck Hughes. He was super nice and fun to chat with. The rest of the staff, although not directly "responsible" for us, were taking care of business. Helping each other, making others aware of what is needed at other tables, and all trying their very best to make everyone's night as wonderful as possible. We were shown to our table, which was near the entrance in the perfect spot. I loved how they have a curtain at the entrance, so that although it felt like -20 with the windchill, we didn't notice once when people entered or exited. Our waitress introduced herself right away and took our cocktail orders. When she delivered our drinks, she explained how the chef's tasting menu worked and left us for a few minutes to decide which option we would like. We chose 'tier 3' which included a pasta course and extra caviar. Everything we had was amazing, from the seafood tower, to the beef carpaccio, to the hanger steak. It was so much food, we thought we would all burst by the end. The waitress was outstanding and was completely engaged with us throughout the evening. She added so much to our experience. We opted for the wine pairings and she gave us 3 wines as well as an amaro at the end. All in all, it was a meal to remember with a price tag of just under $2,000. Well worth it. We highly recommend this for a special occasion dinner.

While the food was delicious, the overall experience fell just slightly short of what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Service was the main area that didn't quite meet expectations. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes before receiving menus and had to ask for them. Throughout the meal, interactions felt a bit rushed - several staff members who stopped by the table were somewhat brief, and on a few occasions, items like bread or water were dropped off while we tried to ask questions, but the busser had already walked away. That said, the restaurant was quite busy during lunch, so it's possible the pace and attentiveness were impacted by that. As for the food, we ordered the albacore tuna appetizer along with the strip loin, butcher's cut, and duck for our mains. Everything was well-prepared, though the duck portion was noticeably small. Desserts were a highlight - especially the pavlova with maracuya, which was excellent. Our server Laura was professional, though not very engaging until the very end of the meal when we were settling the bill. I would still return, as the food is strong, but I have to say that Bar George left a more lasting impression on us in terms of both food and service.

It is very satisfying. One caveat though, the oysters tend to have shell bits in them so be careful. I ordered the risotto as my appetizer even though it was listed as a main. My main dish was octopus. The risotto was perfect, the rice was just right, mussels, tiger shrimps, calamari and lobster tail. it was well proportioned, you could have seafood in every bite until the last bit of rice, just perfect. The octopus, came with onions, capers and olives, not my favorite combo but I did enjoy the tanginess at the end, it did grow on me. Dessert was lava cake with ice cream. Always get excited when a new restaurant opens its doors but was very disappointed by this place…read more There's was nothing exciting about this place decor wise or even food wise. First when I had to reserve at this place they wanted credit card information which is fine because some restaurants do that nowadays but what I didn't like was that the cancelation should be done minimum 2 days in advance if not they charge you 25$ for each person, I find that ridiculous because last minute emergency do tend to happen sometimes. Second when we got there the hostess asked us if she could seat us at the bar saying that the bar is beautiful and all. The brings us to the bar section upstairs and seats us at a tiny little bar which seats 4 ppl(nothing amazing)... The 2 other ppl that were already seated at the bar had taken 1/3 of the space leaving us a very tight area to sit and we were not comfortable sitting there. We asked to be seated elsewhere, the place looked packed but there was a table available on the floor but they told us that the only other table they had for us was a table downstairs, we agreed because we didn't really mind where to seat as long as we had more space to breath. Also something that we didn't like was that the bartender asked us if we only speak English, so we weren't quite sure why he did that remark because he was able to converse with us. When we went downstairs we realized that our table was next to the open kitchen and also we were the only ppl from the restaurant that were seated there. Which we found really odd and felt like the outcast of the restaurant. We didn't want to complain to much because we always try to give the benefit of a doubt especially when it comes to new restos. I have this place a 3 star because of the drinks, they were very well made. I definitely recommend to get the east and ivy if you like lychee and also the guilt and ginger if you like ginger. For food we got the oysters, these were really good and opened by a girl just next to entrance by order. The oysters were fresh and I love the dill mignonette, which was different then other places. For mains we got the mussel and fries. Which was okay eatable, nothing amazing. We got the new York strip and asked for medium rare but the steak came medium. The pepper sauce was too thick to my liking. We also got a side of onion rings and mushrooms, the mushrooms were good, the batter of the onion rings were have any flavor and it was bland. The waitress was nice but not really attentive, like I said before we got seated alone downstairs and we were isolated from everyone so I'm guessing she wasn't really reminding herself to come check up on us more frequently I guess. The food was average nothing spectacular about the food here. Also we didn't really like the atmosphere. I don't know if we just went on a wrong day or this place is always like this. Overall it seems like this place is good for big groups and I also heard that this place is considered a superclub. The music we were hearing was mostly techno. I give them the benefit of doubt of they moving us to a bigger space and also the men that moved us I think it was the owner checked on us twice to see if we were okay which we appreciated. Personally I would not recommend this place nor I will go back. For the price the food is not worth it.
