For the sides it was the french fries, mushrooms, grilled beets, cheddar mashed potatoes. The salmon tartare was fresh, the shrimp chips instead of dry bread is a nice touch. I liked it though it could use more seasoning. The octopus was the dish of the night, it was tender, and the roasted potatoes were so delicious. The lobster pasta was a disappointment, a bit too salty, no sauce. The lobster was fresh, though the dish could use some calamari too... It seemed to have one whole shelled lobster but it was way too little for that much pasta. This is my second time at this beautifully decorated restaurant. The ambiance is so chill and awesome. Jennifer, our waitress was an absolute delight who took care of us amazingly. The food, I went with fixed menu priced 49$, so I had grilled octopus salad, almond and bean crusted salmon and mini dessert of cream puff, matcha chocolate truffle and nata. My boyfriend had oysters, and grilled octopus with potatoes. Our dishes were paired with delicious wine of red and white. We stumbled upon this place by accident! We were actually trying to go the the restaurant next to Makro, Grinder, but it was closed. We ordered drinks and appetizers that were pretty good but it was the main lunch entree that left us speechless. I had the Icelandic cod, my mom had the salad, and my dad had the tartar. I would consider myself a foodie but this was the first meal in a long time that left me in awe. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was busy- which is good! 10/10 would recommend. I can always count on Makro for good food and service. The ambiance has gotten a bit more "trendy" over the years (especially in the summer) but I also love coming here when it is a bit more quiet on week nights for the coziness and the intimacy. Their grilled octopus is a staple but we also love the sides here (especially the charred beets, Brussels sprouts) and they always have good ceviche or crudo. Overall, everything is on the pricier side for value but the ambiance and service is usually quite nice so this is to be expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our surf and turf and roasted beet side and baratta appetizer. The seafood and rib eye were cooked to perfection. The in-house steak sauce condiments were all delicious. The BBQ one reminded me of the Peter Luger steak sauce back in NYC. Coffee was delicious, as was the carrot cake. Service was also attentive and friendly. I went to Makro for a work function and the meal was paid for, so I can't comment on its affordability. Makro is a fish restaurant for people who don't necessarily go out of their way to eat fish. It's beautifully upscale with a great candlelit atmosphere, an attentive service, a huge wine list and a whole array of seafood and fish dishes. I had spicy tuna tartare (a absolute must, since it replicates a true tartare texture), seabass, Brussels sprouts with parmesan, fried yuca and a delightfully light mille-feuilles with some Spanish sweet moscatel. Despite being a fish sceptic I very much enjoyed all of the dishes, and even sampled their ribs, which were cooked to perfection much like their fish offering. We found this place randomly since my friend was craving a surf and turf platter and we had decided to go. Reservations are essential of course and I would say the dress code is more smart casual for late lunch/ early dinner . The whole staff was super nice and welcoming and we were sitting near the hostess stand which was no problem since we had a really decent view of the whole restaurant and it was nice to see their aquarium in front of the kitchen as well. The drinks were delicious and would recommend and the food was amazing . The meat portion of the surf and turf we got it medium rare but it was more rare than medium , which wasn't a big issue for us but for someone who prefers strictly a certain cook or dietary restrain ( ie ibs) would be disappointed in that sense . The seafood itself was succulent and it was my friends first time trying octopus and the only word she could say was " wow " Sides : we ordered the Brussels sprouts and the beetroots because we needed veggies for balance. The Brussels sprouts were amazing and we regret not ordering them x2 since the beetroots were okay. The only reason why this was not given a 5 (but so close ) was for the following : 1) even though the restaurant was quiet at first and a little busy , as someone who worked as a bartender before, gossiping about staff at the hostess booth is just not it. I'm not saying not to talk, but don't gossip in front of clients because you never know who the client might be or their relationship to the person you're gossiping about. Awesome place, we had a great experience. We went with a big group(18) for a friends bday. The waitress was super friendly and helpful. Thank god she suggested the taster menu for 60$ a person. We got to try out so many items from the menu, it was great! Food was excellent, quality was great you really get your moneys worth. We were scared to run out of food but they just kept the plates coming! I was excited to come to this restaurant because I really do like Grinder. This restaurant is located where Shinji used to be before it closed down. I came here last night with my boyfriend at 7 pm. It got pretty packed around 8 pm. We sat at the bar. The waitress behind the bar asked us what kind of water we wanted right away. Because we were at such close proximity to the bar and to the waitress, I felt the service was very good and pretty fast. I ordered the Barracuda cocktail. It's basically a Bloody Caesar with jalapeño and an oyster on top. It wasn't spicy though. My boyfriend got the Mexican Chardonnay cocktail which consisted of cazadores reposado, martini sec, pineapple, mint and agave. It tasted lemony and not what I expected. It's a pretty drink and it's light. I think it's more a of a girl's drink to be honest. After that we had imported red wine. Mine was a Pinot noir and it was very good. I wish the waitress had poured more of it because it didn't look like much in my glass. We started with the spicy tartare rice cake. Basically it's tartare on five rectangular rice beds. It was so yummy! We devoured it. I'm not sure what kind of fish it was. It didn't say on the menu and I didn't think to ask. Then we shared two mains - the lobster and the lamb. The waitress recommended to get seafood as she said that was their speciality and si for those who like meat they should just go to grinder instead. So we got the lobster because she said it was her fave on the menu and we got the lamb because we are not big on fish. Out of the two mains I preferred the lamb. The lobster was very Asian influenced with xo sauce and bok choy, mango and puffed rice. I don't usually enjoy Asian fusion or Asian influenced dishes because I'm half Asian and I can eat this stuff for cheap in Chinatown. I was surprised that the portions were big. The pieces of lobster were huge. And the lamb dish consisted of many lamb chops. The lamb chops were expensive! $70 for like 6 chops! The lamb came with pomegranates seeds , eggplant, sour cream, pico de Gallo and mint leaves. My boyfriend felt the lamb lacked flavour and salt but with the sour cream and mint I felt it was quite tasty. I don't think I will be back. I like grinder so much more. read more

Since we were a party of 25 people, we were asked to pick a group menu. After trying my main dish, Vanessa asked me what I thought about my dish. As I was previously advised by other chefs in other restaurants, it is always important to speak up if you are not satisfied about certain thing, so I did. Now it wasn't a question of getting a free meal, and perhaps they knew that one of the reasons why I was there was to write a critic- But honestly, I was willing to give Makro one last chance. Instead of $55.00 I was willing to pay over $100, just to see if I was the one who was really missing anything. Came to Makro for a friends birthday. We were a table of 10 girls, and our waitress from the get go was EXTREMELY rude. First off, you should make sure your wait staff doesn't lok like they just rolled out of bed. She looked like an absolutely mess, her brown dirty hair tied up In a messy bun ( not the cute, trendy, on purpose kind) and I am not one to judge appearances, and honestly it wouldn't have mattered if she was a nice, respectful person, but unfortunately her appearnce matched her serving abilities, Rude, disastrous and she kept going to the bartenders and pointing at us and laughing. It felt like high school but much more expensive.The waitress was a straight up bi***. Then she messed up our orders several times, when we told her she huffed and puffed and kept saying ... welll noo acutally you ordered this but WTVR I guess ill just take it back because YOU SAY SO. grabbed the mistake plates and returned with the correct plates and literally threw them on the table. and she made MANY mistakes, and kept telling us we were wrong...... Serious ego problem. And when she brought the shots we ordered, she spilled half of them on one of my friend, and went back to the bartenders and pointed AGAIN laughing. I LOVE eating, and I have no problem spending money on good quality meals and great service, but this place is absolutely pretentious and I would not recommend it at all. And on top of it the food was mediocre. The only thing I enoyed were the tuna tartare on rice cakes. But my 70$ octopus plate was undercooked and kind of gross. The restaurant owners and managers clearly have no regard for their client's safety as 3 different employees were wearing their masks on their chin or under their nose. We were constantly asking one particular staff member to put his mask on. He just walked away. This is so unacceptable and we complained to the manager about it after we had paid. How can such a high-end restaurant allow its staff to compromise its patron's safety and be blatantly rude when asked to remedy the situation?
