    Truffle risotto
    Bonnie M.

Amazing flavors all around. House focaccia was delicious and definitely a must. Oysters were fresh and even better with the happy hour deal (5-7pm)! For the mains, my friend and I tried the truffle risotto and the chicken liver. Risotto was rich and flavorful with a generous serving of mushrooms - would order again. The chicken liver was also good but so rich that we could only finish half of the dish. Great service, courteous and friendly staff, and cozy ambiance. Very high on the list of places to re-visit next time I'm in Montreal~

Le Majestique should have 5 stars. Every single thing that we ate was amazing. The great thing is that plates are shareable and try as I might; I can't single out an item as being the best because they all were fantastic. You really can't go wrong. We had the Cornish hen meal, the welks (aka snails), the truffle gnocchi, the mackerel spread with house made croutons, and oysters that were 2.50 during happy hour. I was surprised at how delicious that mackerel spread was, we all really enjoyed it. The gnocchi was pillowy soft and full of flavor, and the welks didn't taste like escargot but rather like squid. It was our friends first time trying welks and she loved it. I know when you think of visiting a bistro while in Montreal the usual places that spring to mind are Le deux garmins or L'express but this should definitely be on your list as the food is amazing. Service was exceptional, it was loud though and crowded so be prepared for that. Otherwise enjoy the great food and service.

We popped in here in a warm day and ordered the oysters that were on special for happy hour and the chicken liver mousse. We were the only ones inside at the time so the service was great. The chicken liver mousse was something that I had never had before and it was so delicious. The oysters were fresh. I hope to make it back here some day.

Very good overall. The only problem is between 4 and 5 PM. They only offer for dishes on the menu. The whole menu looks great, but we were not told that they have a limited menu at 4 o'clock when we came. That's why four instead of five stars. We had the beet salad, which was fresh and good. The oysters were small, but very good. Drumroll... The best dish was the mackerel salad, which was like tuna salad, but with mackerel. It had a little kick and was absolutely delicious. They serve it on toast points. The ambience is eclectic and quirky with a lot of vintage items. This fits perfectly with the many vintage shops on that street.

If you want the same-o, same-o, then go to a same-o-, same-o place. And if you don't mind being reminded of the classic, 'From Dusk Till Dawn's bar (at least to me, this looked liked it), then come to Majestique in the Plateau Mont-Royal area if you're feeling an itch for kitsch on your night out- ways away from Old Montréal tourist spots. Majestique only rolls as walk-in- so if you want to pop in here for 8pm dinner and it's filled elbow-to-elbow, wait a bit. The host(ess) might suggest you go 'next door' to Urbanista (another restaurant) several doors down actually while you wait for your table here. Once here, you'll pass the heavy entrance curtain, escorted to your table then really take in the chock-full of 60s 'stuff' Majestique has all around their walls. Where was Majestique our first time we came to Montréal in '16??? Obviously, we didn't look hard enough plus we stayed mostly in Old Montréal during our first time. Service was incredibly nice here and so was the food. So nice to ventured out of Old Montréal. These folks specialize in serving something you've eaten 'traditionally' elsewhere in a completely different feel here. All of our small plates were interesting- but our Seafood Tower scored nicely. Instead of the common seafood tower, Majestique fills theirs with several types of seafood individually served and seasoned. Between the chunky diced salmon to the Clams, to scallops, oysters, etc- it was very tasty. So was the Pear+Maitake+Chèvre cheese opener. We were taken aback when we found out this place doesn't serve Escargots- instead, what's offered here are Bourgots that that have a conch-like texture. Good. Just different. If you want to get your kitsch fix with the locals, good food at an upbeat spot, why not here?

Loved the ambiance and fabulous food. We indulged in a pickle shot to start and thought the oyster martini was fun. And great service throughout the whole time. Small plates, perfect so you can try different things. Burrata, focaccia and cauliflower were some of out favs!

Great meal in an eclectic vibe. Shared a bunch of Canadian tapas including fresh oysters, tomato salad, bread, whelks and the 12" hotdog. All delicious. We did order the smoked mackerel spread (it was on the bill) but it never came. The waiter felt so bad he tried to give it to us complimentary but we told him it wasn't a problem and not to worry. The cocktails/mocktails were also very good. I would come back here for the fresh and creative dishes that change with the seasons. Everything was wonderful and we were not overly full, giving us room to fit in a Schwartz smoked meat sandwich for our whirlwind trip to Montreal.

    whelks (snails/escargot) MUST ORDER

A very unassuming spot in Downtown Montreal. Read good reviews and wanted a place that served Espresso Martinis and French food. What we ordered: Whelks - highly highly recommended. MUST GET Oysters - pretty good. slightly bring. fresh, clean, nice. Shrimp Pasta (special) - bigger dish. creamy. salty, but good. Beef and Tuna Tataki - honestly they tasted the same and they were just ok. Beet Salad - nice, slightly sweet palate cleanser. Espresso Martinis - creamy sweet, but small. All in all, we had a nice pleasant time here and would definitely come back again if only for the whelks, espresso martinis, and oysters.

Let's start with 6 stars...La Majestique was a magical experience. The food was incredible, wine selection wonderfully suggested and the ambience and energy unmatched. My time spent was a journey into what's possible and how it can be. A culinary and sweet adventure on a beautiful Montréal day. Raff, the bartender/shuckster/storyteller/fellow human, was a joy to have given her time to commune while she worked. Magnificent!

I need to give a shoutout to my partner for picking this spot. It was one of those nights where we were tired and indecisive; and I was cranky from walking in cute/painful shoes. This kitchy little bar on St. Laurant had everything we needed - unique menu, good drinks, and friendly staff. We had some oysters, smoked mackeral spread, fries... and something else that I can't recall. It was such a lovely time that I only have one picture :) I save my 5 stars for truly special spots - and Le Magestique has earned it!

The atmosphere of this place is great. Cool vintage toys and cans adorn the walls and the seating is intimate without feeling like you're sitting on top of each other. The service was pretty quick and the drinks were delightful. The portions are quite small for the price and you'll probably need to supplement with the house bread or fries. We opted for the latter. When I tell you these fries are among the best I've ever had, it's no understatement. I would go back just for the fries.

You walk in and there's a clothing store on one side and black curtains straight ahead. I just stood there confused for a second until someone suddenly appeared and escorted me through the curtains, down a long dark hallway, and into this intimate, dimly lit bar. Turns out, I had accidentally stumbled into a speakeasy. The space is tiny--maybe 6-8 seats at the bar and a long banquet along the wall for 10-12 more people. No menus either. They ask what you like and don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous and the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink and a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately and had to leave. The staff was friendly, personable, and chatty, and because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you. Definitely more of a solo or date-night spot than a group hang. Such a cool, unexpected experience.
